If Cameron and all the other elitists who so casually spew this socialism-disguised-as-nonsense enviro stuff really believed Global Warming was a dire threat, they would behave accordingly with respect to their own jet-set lifestyles and carbon-spewing professions.
I don’t believe in Global Warming because — well, because I have a brain — but mainly because the James Camerons and the Al Gores of the world don’t believe in it, either. They get rich off of it. They puff their insecure selves up with it. They feel a sense of superiority over it…
But they don’t believe in it.
Look how the “experts” live.
Or they really do believe Global Warming is as dire a threat as WWII, which means their lifestyle is a weapon of genocide.
What other conclusion is there?

Will Cameron show up at the Oscars riding a bicycle or in some big, gas guzzling limousine? Hmmmmm, let me take a wild guess.
James Cameron is one 'CRUNKED UP MOTHERFUCKER'. A Violent Leftist encouraging Ecological Terrorism, that means that if he disagrees with you,, he has the RIGHT to Burn YOUR PROPERTY DOWN.
I really think its about time we started edging our kids too.
Here's a suggestion for Cameron. Tell him to direct his hot air into a balloon that will fly him over to those Himalayan glaciers where he can hover in midair with his 3-D cameras waiting to film the glaciers melting completely. Of course, that won't be until 2035 – but as we've just witnessed, Cameron clearly has the capacity to keep that hot air coming for that long. Oh, what am I saying? Longer!
Like John's tip of the hat, I'm going to give Ed Begley some wiggle room. Nothing he has done, or rather that I have seen, leads me to think he is anywhere near the same species as Al Gore or any businessman trying to make a buck out of the next major industry.
I believe Begley truly wants to make this world a better, cleaner place to live. And I'm on board with that. I think we need to do whatever we can and follow whatever desires we have to do less harm to our planet.
I just don't want to be told that I have to do it or else the gubmint is going to tax us even more and spend our money to see that it happens. It's when it goes from a good practice to a mandatory practice that irks me.
I will give him credits, he did actually practice what he preached but the pollutants produced to make his life "green" offset any environmental positives he may have intended. As for that pompous, hypocritical ass, Gore or the other tools, not just in Hollywierd, that practice "do as I say & not as I do", you can all pound some Malibu sand.
You want to be taken somewhat seriously? Dump the mansions, the Hummers, the private jets and start actually living the life style that you want others to live & oh, yah, find some real scientist who don't "lose" the data, admit, to falsifying information and try to intimidate peers for questioning them.

James Cameron LIVES in the world of science fiction and big green bank accounts. It makes total sense why he believes MOTHER EARTH is in dire straits, first the fiction of Climate Change, Global Warming or whatever they are calling it at the moment will effect Mr. Cameron's Big Green Investments, which I presume are headed the way of the Military Corporate Scourge that plagued his fictional planet of Pandora. Defeated and with no monetary gains to show for their efforts.

I respect Ed too, much as I disagree with his philosophy. He walks the walk, there is something admirable about that, no matter how misguided I think he is.
He also doesn't get in people's face and call them idiots for not agreeing with him, the way the AGW crowd used to before they were exposed.

Anyone remember when CFC's were going to destroy the earth?
Little known fact that Dupont owned a patent on CFC which was expiring. Which meant that it could be produced in third world countries for a severe fraction of the cost. Which meant Dupont wouldn't make any money. They lobbied to get CFC banned. Then offered their new, PATENTED version. And the earth was saved from destruction.
Al Gore hasn't mentioned CFC's since. On to the new global warming of CO2.
My daughter's asthma is worse because they aren't using CFCs in asthma inhalers any more. Dr. told her that she can take as many puffs as she needs because the medicine in the inhalers doesn't work nearly as well with the new propellant.

Man, I usually really dig the Oscars, but with nominated directors saying stuff this silly, I don't know, I may find something more fun to do, like watch some of my good ol' WWII movies … about back when they actually knew a real threat when they saw one. And walked the walk, and fought the good fight. Instead of folks like Cameron tooling it back to their gigantic carbon footprint mansions like the hypocrites they are.
Like Glenn Reynolds says, "I'll believe it's a crisis when they start acting like it's a crisis."
Until that point – when they start walking the walk instead of just talking the talk – we are safe in assuming that it's a scam and all they want is our money.

I remember the CFC debacle well because I was in the refrigeration industry at the time. You are exactly right about why CFCs were banned at the Montreal Protocol. The refrigeration industry only used about 10% of the freon manufactured. The insulation industry used the vast majority of it to produce foam type insulation and did actually release the gas into the air. The crap that is used now for refrigerants isn't nearly as efficient as what good old R- 12, R-22 and R-502 freon were, therefore we using MORE ENERGY to accomplish the same cooling as we did with the old CFC freon. BTW refrigeration techs are required by law to recover freon so it can't escape in to the air and there were supposed to be facilities where refrigerant is purchased to buy the used gas from the techs and recycled freon was supposed to be available for purchase. It never happened. Anytime somebody starts spewing any environmental garbage, just follow the money to learn the true motivation.

While I'm not saying Cameron is blameless (he definitely isn't), there's a little more to this story. I believe Linda Hamilton suffered from severe bipolar disorder which totally wrecked her first marriage before Cameron. Neither party is innocent in this case.

What a retarded argument. I believe in global warming not because of James Cameron or anyone else but because reputable scientists like the ones at NASA believe in it and has studied it. It is only debunked in the right wing blogosphere. In the real world of science global warming is still a legit theory. Taking "The Inconvenient Truth" as gospel would be stupid just like thinking that NASA don't know jack shit would be stupid.
Morning all. Cameron doesn't give a fig about climate change. He's in it for the adulation. This guy is an extreme narcissist who needs to have people fawning over him all the time. The easiest way to do this (at this time) is to adopt this AGW myth. By the by, the oscars he's won (and may in the future) should have been in special effects only. He has talent as far as loading his movies with special effects (and developing them as well) however if he had to rely on true directing skills (rather than over-awing his audience with CGI) I suspect he wouldn't have won a sausage.
Having said all of that I think that the real villain in this AGW piece is Al Gore. He's the one that really got this fraud on the road and kept it there in order to fill his pockets with money. He's the one that I would love to see on the pointy end of some class action lawsuits brought by people who have lost money on this swindle.
Any "warming" that has happened has been a result of solar flares on the sun. This is normal and has happened since time began. There is nothing more to it than that. Anyone who says different is selling something.

Perhaps you should reconsider your words. Nobody at NASA has "studied" global warming. They have a few satellite pictures that they make an interpolation from while assuming the CO2 theories are base fact. Add to that the temperature datat, and the stations they come from, at at the heart of a controversy themselves. NASA and the Goddard Institute has already had to amend temperature data thanks to their lies being exposed.
Nobody said the AGW clergy don't have some facts on their side, we're saying their interpretation is flawed as is the perception of the relevance of central parts of the data. Namely the parts of the IPCC report that based its "facts" on a students dissertation and a travel guide assessments….
Don't forget the financial component to the AGW scam and NASA. In case anyone hasn't been paying attention, NASA's space exploration budget has been going down for years, while the government budget for Climate Change research has been skyrocketing. NASA wants some of that gravy, so they're willing to get a loon like James Hansen to fudge some data and stage a few congressional comedy routines.

I remember purchasing my first car as a teen: a 1975 Pontiac Firebird.
It had a new-fangled "catalytic converter" spliced into the exhaust system.
GM noted in it's hype of the new, cleaner cars for '75: your new car's exhaust system no longer emits caustic carbon-monoxide gases. These new catalytic converters change these dangerous emissions into harmless H2O and CO2 gases, which plants and trees thrive on!
What was once an approved solution for "a cleaner environment" is now the notoriously poisonous gas that threatens the entire earth and will eventually submerge my Florida home in seawater.
This is upsetting to me, because my Firebird (400cid) was robbed of a lot of horsepower due to this environmentally-friendly device that created CO2: the gas that would someday make Al Gore exceedingly wealthy.

You know what I miss? I miss the good' ol days when a hollywood professional was only qualified to speak about hollywood.
Did I enjoy avatar? Sure I did (at least until the military lost – I think that's jumping the shark). I'll admit that, it was visual candy and I can suspend my disbelief long enough to not let politics get in the way in a movie about aliens.
Do I think Cameron in any way has an qualifications that make him an intelligent source about global warming, or even politics at large? Of course not!
I think people need to remember, that unless one of these hollywood guys has held office or you know,……..at least taken a poli sci course, their opinion is as qualified as that of the burger flipper at mcdonalds.
All they're interested in is "raising awareness". They don't care about actually doing anything that would reduce pollution and carbon emissions. Their mission is just to "raise awareness" so that everybody else can suffer and sacrifice in the name of going green. In the same way that talking about "social justice" and "economic redistribution" takes the place of actually writing a check for a charity that helps the poor, or performing on a telethon takes the place of actually donating money for Haiti, "raising awareness" takes the place of actually doing something.
Just to toss in one opinion from the other side (for how little it is worth), I completely agree. I am a democrat and i do lean left I will admit – but i am not a global warming supporter, and some of that has to do with the fact that John showed me facts wrapped in an argument weeks ago.
It's people like that who remind liberals and conservatives that they should question everything, from both camps, at all times. After all, what's more american than people questioning often dubious authority?
Actually, I would contend that a lot of these people don't even go so far as to worship "mother earth" so to speak. There are plenty of carbon mitigation options that reduce costs over the lifetime of the project. Examples include changing your lights, or updating the seal on your windows. Every time, they throw massive funding at a project that has no payback, solar power comes to mind, they are choosing to "help mother earth" in a way that is less efficient but better for PR.
Given this tendency, I would guess it's about ego. If anything their worship is to themselves.

Hi El Gordo. Have to disagree a wee bit. I suggest that he's an average director at best as all of his films receive kudos for the special effects before any mention of directorial skill. Put another way, when he's praised as a director it's always in conjunction with the way he's used special effects in his films. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed a number of his films and his melding of CGI/SFX into the story is skilled. I'd like to see him direct a few films with no CGI/SFX to see how he does. Your point on his sense of self-importance is well taken, it seems that lately it's getting pretty bad. Maybe it's an over reaction to some of the critics of Avatar.

Hollywood is the biggest waste of resources in history. Everything they do is to create & then promote a fantasy. They build elaborate sets which they then tear down & throw away. They fly all over the globe for pretty backgrounds, they use up electricity & oil in abundance just to move people hither & yon. Their product is image – no solid, lasting anything.
And AVATAR is the biggest navel-gazing epic ever. People are all sorry and mad over computer-generated nothings. They're mad at the military for slaughting pointlessly … nothing. It never happened. It doesn't exist. It's cheap and lazy sympathy. WHere's Hollywood for Darfur these days? The Darfurapandorians? Oh, REAL people sitting on a natural resource that everyone wants. But, it's HOT and flies, and POOR, which is scary and Janjaween actually SHOOT with REAL bullets. Shallow self-righeousness – sniff and wail over what is no more than an elaborate cartoon.

I don´t know. I´m talking about pure action here. He has the ability to create long action sequences where he builds up the action, creates a quiet moment, takes it up a notch, and so on and on – he does it with impeccable dramatic timing. He knows how to maintain suspense throughout, and also a sense of the geography (where every character is and what is going on). It sounds simple but few directors can actually do it.
Yes, these action sequences often require SFX, but it´s still good filmmaking. You would think there are more good action flicks out there but no… Of course, now that Cameron has become an "important director" with something to say, he might as well be retired as far as I´m concerned.

It's amazing to me that you can cram so many falsehoods into such a short post. There are so many things wrong with it it's hard to deal with them in anything less than encyclopedia form. But here are a few:
Cameron was already rich, as was Gore. And Cameron, having made about a gazillion dollars on his other movies, says he's ignoring money-making in what he's doing with the film now. And while you may be jealous of them, you don't really know how they live (offsets?) or what they believe, or why they feel justified in their lifestyle (because without it they would have less effect on a billion or so other people?) I'm not defending them but saying you are making huge leaps of illogic and jumping to conclusions you know nothing about.
