As always, the fact that the fawning interviewer hardly appears to blink at this comment — much less follow up on it — is just as revealing as the comment itself: [emphasis mine]
Cinematical: How did you first conceive of the story?
Joe Carnahan: [SPOILER ALERT] Tom Berenger’s character is very much a right-wing conservative white male, and that’s where it started for P.J. and I. I told my own father, who’s politically-minded in that same way, “Dad, you’re the most dangerous thing on the political landscape because you’re a sixty-year-old white conservative,” and that’s more terrifying than any jihadist. But if you took one of these guys, and you gave them the strength of their convictions to become a jihadist… that, to me, was fun. That was Smokin’ Aces territory. P.J. and I gelled behind that very quickly. [END SPOILERS]

Well, you have to keep in mind that in Leftist Hollywood comparing 100 million or so Americans to terrorists is what-you-call a resume enhancer. (If you just say that about the Marines, it’s called “Avatar.”)
Now, had Carnahan said jihadists are more terrifying than white conservatives, the CAIR Apology Tour would be well underway.

I wonder if this intellectual inbred would prefer to sit in a room with 100 Conservatives or 100 islamists. I hope he chooses the latter so he can have his head severed from his body.
I've seen "Smokin Aces" and "Smokin Aces 2," and I'm proud to say I downloaded both of this asshat's films from torrent sites, meaning he he didn't see a DIME of my money.
Can tell ya honestly that our douchebag-in-question would be well advised to save whatever he earned from these, cause he's even less of a one-trick-pony than Trigger. Well, to be fair, Trigger knew when to keep his piehole shut.
Check it out, Carnahan, your films are doing better as pirated screeners than they EVER will in a cinema, which probably explains why "Smokin Aces 2" went direct-to-DVD, right?

Carnahan is the director behind the A-Team remake coming out this summer, and I was really looking forward to that based on the trailer.
Now I'll be watching the A -Team movie looking for a lefty slant from this guy.
Honestly, I am torn.
On one hand, I want to smack the everloving schisten out of him for being such a moron and not paying attention to the news (where it is safe to say that the Islamists are outbatting we White NeoCons).

It's almost impossible to exagerate how leftists perceive anyone who identifies themselves as a conservative. Speaking from an LA perspective, most of the "progressives" around here believe that conservatives:
1. Hate black people.
2. Believe all homosexuals should be killed or at least imprisoned.
3. Base their political policy positions entirely on religious dogma.
4. Are fundamentally dumb, even though they may be able to fake some aspects of intelligence through mimic.
5. Dislike and distrust science and reason.
6. Naturally violent and amoral.
7. Admire Hitler, although they are barely smart enough to not admit it.
8. Believe in a crude, Neandethal type of Social Darwinism, where the strong exploit and subjugate the weak and powerless. Conservatives are not smart enough to understand that this contradicts their alleged religious beliefs.
It's no wonder that the handful of conservatives I've met in southern California are intent on keeping their political affiliations a secret.
Has anyone considered that the director meant what he said? i.e. liberals are dominating politics right now, but conservatives are experiencing a revival of sort…so, conservatives are more feared (in the political landscape) than jihadists?
I read all of the prior comments and they all reek of typical conservative slander…and not one person could objectively analyze the director's comments and arrive at this conclusion. To make matters worse, the author even clarified the difference between what the director ACTUALLY said and what the previous posts BELIEVED he said in the VERY LAST SENTENCE of the piece.

The worst thing that would happen to Mr. Carnahan in a room filled with 100 conservatives would be that his head would be handed to him only rhetorically, not literally.

To be honest, there's probably as many different reasons they hate America as there are jihadists. The world is full of individuals, and we all have our reasons for doing what we do.
I'm expert on Islam, but I have read several books on it since 9/11, and I believe there is a part of it where Muslims are instructed to respect other religions, as long as those religions accept that Islam is superior. (Any one feel free to correct me). So I believe Christians who adhere strictly to their religion would have to at least earn begrudging tolerance.
But as for the sex, booze, drugs, infidelity, adultery, theft and other sinful "indulgences" of the left, they could just be taken out right off the bat as an abomination against God.

Right on Steve. I am an older version of you. I worked in NYC and have nailed more than one audition where they looked at me with that weird look and they know I am not one of them. I did not get booked when they gave me that look. They already know. I think there are a lot of conservative actors getting fed up with the Left.
As a US Army veteran I have been to Afghanistan and Iraq, and I can honestly say that I have never seen a white conservative use a small child as a mine detector.
I have never seen a white conservative father abandon their child because their child sustained perminant injuries as a result of their fathers neglect.

I completed two screenwriting courses at UCLA and in both classes I openly identified myself as a conservative and let my conservative values "all hang out" during class discussions. For example, I pointed out the plethora of liberal stereotypes walking around in many of my classmate's scripts:
1. The violent, derangedl veteran
2. The murderous, profit-mongering executive
3. People who were "messed up in the head" by their religious parents.
4. Mr Big Mouth who loudly proclaims his hatred of minorities, gays, and fore-ners, while proudly displaying a US flag lapel pin.
5. The "abusive" husband and the wife who "breaks free" (NEVER EVER EVER an abusive WIFE and a HUSBAND who breaks free).
BTW, I pulled an "A" in both courses.
Sorry Mr. Nolte, but I think you misunderstand Mr. Carnahan's comment.
I read it as a compliment to his father (and 60-year-old conservatives everywhere). Think about it: Jihadists are pretty scary for most peoples, and here Mr. Carnahan is saying that those bad-asses don't hold a candle to a 60-year-old white male conservative American… and it seems to me that the setup for his movie confirms my interpretation.
Bottom line: he is right; old white conservative American males are indeed scary dudes because they know how to think and they know how to shoot. >:-)
