Earthquake Relief: ‘Hollywood Unites For Haiti’
by John Nolte
This is a non-profit group run by Jimmy Jean-Louis. Most of you will recognize him from his role on the television show “Heroes.” He’s also been on Fox News today with Shep.
Outside of my political life, I do still have some friends in show-biz; good people, people whose opinions are rock solid, and when they tell me Jimmy’s a stand up guy doing the right thing for the right reasons… Well, that’s good enough for me … and I’ve already put my money where my mouth is.

Via Drudge: Hell Came Up: 500,000 May Be Dead
Haitians piled bodies along the devastated streets of their capital Wednesday after a powerful earthquake flattened the president’s palace, the cathedral, hospitals, schools, the main prison and whole neighborhoods. Officials feared hundreds of thousands may have perished but there was no firm count.
Death was everywhere in Port-au-Prince. Bodies of tiny children were piled next to schools. Corpses of women lay on the street with stunned expressions frozen on their faces as flies began to gather. Bodies of men were covered with plastic tarps or cotton sheets. …
Here are some unbelievably tragic photos.
Please consider donating here. A prayer for this good man’s family would be appreciated, as well.
If you have a favorite organization of your own that’s also involved in the Haiti rescue efforts, let this plea serve as a reminder to pay them a call.

"people whose opinions are rock solid"
Translation: people whose opinions I agree with.
You're not fooling anyone, Nolte. You worship the individuals in Hollywood who have the same point of view as you and you chastise those who don't. You're a fool.
The depth of the tragedy is overwhelming; having gone through the 1994 Northridge quake here in L.A. I have a good idea of what the Haiti quake felt like seismically, but we suffered nothing like the carnage they're enduring. But is it better to fund this guy, or give to the more established aid groups, such as the Red Cross and Doctors Without Borders, etc.? I only ask that because those groups are trained specifically for massive disasters, whereas Mr. Jean-Louis' group is more to provide sports, etc. It's good to see so many people ready to help, but as we learned through 9/11, etc., there will be many charlatans out to make a buck from the sympathetic (not that he is), and inexperienced people who raise money but have no idea to get it quickly where it's needed. I'm inclined to go with the organizations I know and who have more experience. The photo link is horrifying and inspiring: horrible to see the injured and dead, inspiring to see the world coming to Haiti's aid. All my thoughts & prayers with the victims and rescuers.
Something you might want to consider: There is a Christian Haitian ministry in Miami Florida that my old church (Old Cutler Presbyterian Church, Miami). They have a long and deep connection and history of giving in Haiti (they are Haitians). They run orphanages down there and when disaster strikes down there they provide huge amounts of relief quickly because they are already down there providing for the most vulnerable.
If you are trying to decide who to give to they might be a group you could consider. Here is their site:http://www.esmihome.org/index.html, They do not have anything up on their website about the quake, but I got a newsletter from my church notifying me that they are working on a fund drive with El Sheddai today to get things rolling. Here is that letter from my church http://www.ocpc.org/index.php?src=news&srctyp... so you can have some assurance that it is legit.
El Shaddai has been around for a long time and is well known (there is a huge Haitian pop in Miami). And you can pay with CC or Paypal on their site.
I am sure other churches are doing stuff. How couldn't they? But in Miami there is an established connection.
All I can say is that JImmy has been on Fox News today talking about his fund. Shepard Smith just interviewed him.
It is impossible to fathom the abject desperation these poor Haitians are living thru. I hear on TV their talking about getting heavy machinery down there to lift off buildings to get to people. Well, it doesn't happen so easily there. The walls are just concrete. They have no rebar framing to make them more like a sheet. That is why it is so crumbly and bad. It will be small piece by small piece to get these people out. And the small sewer infrastructure will be toast too because it is also made of concrete. Sewer is already in the street, but now. Lord. They just have zero infrastructure there – no fire or ambulances… people to go out and systematically clear roads. For people who have not been there it is really just hard to understand how tragic and scary things are going top be there.
Episcopal Relief and Development will be there if they're not already.
ERD sticks around afterwards; doesn't just hand out Band-Aids and supplies. They'll stay and help re-build schools and hospitals. A worthy place to send donations, IMHO

Yep. Also a good one.
Yes, Catholic Relief Services does a lot of work in Haiti, as well as that entire region. I'm loading up my wallet before Mass on Sunday, I expect a second collection just for this purpose.
One of their subsidiaries Food For The Poor Inc. works down there and is one of the highest rated charities I've come across.
By far the vast majority of donations go to direct relief, with only a sliver taken off the top for management.

Now this is something Hollywood is doing that I can GET BEHIND and SUPPORT.
Thank you Jimmy and God Bless Haiti it's time of need.
I have volunteered with Catholic Charities way back 1989 when they cacked Ceausescu in Romania and the US started receiving refugees. They were a well organized, thoughtful group.
I have worked with El Shaddai and another one that sort of merged with them on relief for Haiti (after storms and on a mission to plant trees). They are Haitians so they are completely invested. Haiti, I fear, is intractably impoverished and corrupted.
What a pleasure it is to hear of your involvement in charities!
World Vision is another great relief organization. They were hard at work in Haiti before the earthquake, and many with the organization are missing.
Another group that has been around for a long time and their main function is disaster relief is Operation USA. They are an actual secular charity group. Here is their site: http://www.opusa.org/
You can check them (they are not a church group) online thru a charity checker site. They operate a lean machine there. They partner with groups like the one I mentioned above (ESMI). It is a good option if you want to check the charity or do not want to donate to a religious group.
Good. After Limbaugh's disgraceful mocking of the Haiti tragedy on his program today, it's good to see that there are those out there with good hearts.
Those photos are heartbreaking. I have a friend whose father does missionary work in Haiti, and he's told us stories of the devastating poverty in that country. He was scheduled to fly there this Friday for missionary work. He may still go if he can. He's a much braver person than I am. I donated to the Red Cross this a.m. but felt compelled to donate to Jimmy Jean-Louis' charity as well. I'll say a prayer for his family and all the citizens of Haiti.
REMEMBER 9/11…all those fake charities popped up that scammed well meaning Americans out of a lot of money meant to alleviate the suffering.
Specifically, remember the Hollywood A-Lister telethon thrown to raise money where the A-Listers promised profusely that every dime would go to the families of 9/11. Every dime. Two years later, the families reported they had never received a penny much less a dime. And that spawned a follow on expose about A-Listers promoting causes…they're paid for their promotion of said cause so part of the money you donate goes to the A-Lister.
Be wise, give to bona fide relief organizations to make sure the money you send to help out actually gets to the people who are hurting and needs it.
Just wanted to make this clear, I think Jimmy Jean-Louis here is being sincere about asking for help. Not to be confused with a scammer.
His money will definitely go there, in what capacity I dunno but everything helps. If you think your money will be better distributed with Red Cross, I'm sure it makes little difference to him. His video was a plea to help, I'm sure he cares not which outlet you use.

I dialed in a few times, it only takes a minute and 10 bucks is charged to your phone..
Pat Robertson is #2 on twitter for some rather idiotic remarks at an inopportune moment, but it's nice to see BH stopping the presses and doing some impromptu coverage on this. In the right here, right now world we live in, BH knows how to take a moment's pause and do what's right.
The situation in Haiti is terrible and heartbreaking. I encourage everyone that can help out do so, your money is badly needed to save peoples lives and help them. That being said everyone should have a choice to offer up their own money. Our government or any government does not have the right to take the citizens money with out their expressed, direct and individual consent and send it as aid to any country. I would only consider it reasonalble after we have taken care of our own citizens and our own problems in our own country first. Please feel free to donate your own money I strongly encourage it, but leave my money alone because I earned it and I need it for my family.
WHY DON'T YOU HELP AMERICANS FIRST.YOU JERKS!!!
It is terrible and all, but it is not America's responsibility to borrow money to provide welfare to the world. They should have planned ahead. It's the same problem with people in this country to are "suffering" right now – they didn't plan ahead, and it is not our responsibility to provide them with welfare. Impeach robinhood…he's robbing us blind.
We like to think it's possible to do both. Besides, why do you care how I spend my charitable dollars, or if I decide to increase my charitable giving because of a natural catastrophe?
Sorry John,
Slightly over 150 years agoi, Haiti had a slave rebellion. They killed all the while people. Since then, not a dime has been invested there by the while folks. There is a reason they are the poorest people in the Weatern Hemisphere. They brought it on themselves.
btw. I know lots of libtards will find fault with my comments. tough.
It is about being apart of the Human race. This impoverished nation has taken a big hit and this JERK will toss in a few bucks to help. What have you done to help our fellow Americans. I am hoping you just had too much caffeine today.
Man there are some Heartless comments being posted.
Disgusting!
Oh shut up!
Oh great, so now we're going to blame this on race! How very feeling and understanding of you. I don't know if you've actually ever read a history book before (and seeing as how the slave rebellion was well over 200 years ago, not "slightly over 150 years," I'm guessing you haven't), you would know that conditions for Haitian slaves before the rebellion were horrific, making the situation in the antebellum South look almost mild by comparison. Not to justify bloody rebellions in general, of course, but it's not like things were any better for 90% of the population before the fighting, either. So before you go talking about the "libtards," maybe you need to think about how this reflects on BH in general (if you're not really a troll, that is), and drop the racial crap.
I don't think he's scamming at all! But in a disaster of this scope, it just seems more efficient to give money to people who already have the gear, etc. (bad analogy: if I needed a burst pipe fixed, I'd hire a guy who already had tools, not one who was eager, but had to go buy them first)
Please check out charities thoroughly. Following hurricane Katrina many sprang up that imitated Red Cross websites but were really scams, others sprang up and were not sending money for the intended purposes. This is not to suggest any charities here are not legit, far from it. It's just that in times of huge tragedy there are those few out there who take advantage of others' compassion and generosity and engage in scams and thievery instead. Just check things out, be careful clicking links, hand type URLs to organizations that say they will help, check out the percentages of what a charity will pass along to those in need vs. administrative costs.
Please post a copy of the check so that we know that your support is real not just empty words. Don't think that encouraging him to send other peoples tax money is the same thing as supporting him. While you are at it write me a check also, I would like to benefit by your kindness. I need a new chainsaw to cut wood to burn because I can't afford to pay the heat bill. Oh by the way is anybody else tired of this global warming as much as I am?
Rush did not mock the Haiti tragedy. And I do not need Hollywood to tell me I should donate.
I think you lost everyone at, YOU JERKS!!!
But I did love, AMERICANS FIRST.
This isn't a calling for the government to provide welfare to the world…it's calling on individuals to donate (if you CHOOSE). I am against, as it seems you are, the government stepping in as a nanny for the world, or even it's own citizens. I'm all for charity that free people in a free market choose to participate in.
It is to be hoped that all the money collected to help Haiti is actually sent to Haiti, unlike previous "fund" raisers.
what did he say?
incredible: http://www.versu.ro/Pinguinul%20Andra-3307.html
Please check out this sait http://www.versu.ro/mano-2388.html
From what I've read Limbaugh didn't mock Haiti but he capitalized on the earthquake to criticize Obama for his quick response, comparing it to the slow response to the underwear bomber and saying he only responded to Haiti quickly to impress blacks. He'll say anything to get attention and hence, more listeners.
Maybe if you gave up paying your Internet fees and your cell phone maybe you could heat your house. I am a staunch Conservative. I am Human first. There are children walking aimlessly around the streets in need of help. Our Military Airlift Command is the best in the world. Out of 320 million people in America only about 200 million actually pay income tax. If we spend 200 million dollars in relief to Haiti we're talking about a DOLLAR! Half a cup of Starbucks, 1/3 a gallon of gas,1 day of internet service or 1 one dollar losing lottery ticket.
PS dried BS is an excellent combustible fuel!
You're an idiot and obviously from the South since you cannot even spell "white" correctly. joke, joke, joke and and sh!t, you're name is Jim-Bo… haaaahaaaaa, trash
WE can find money for others, but can't find money to help AMERICANS!!!!
This is the armpit of the world!
If they were white holliwood would barely pay attention!

DO NOT SEND MONEY TO THE AMERICAN RED CROSS!!!!!
remember this?
——————————————————————————–
In the hours after the Sept. 11 attacks, a record-breaking amount of donations started pouring into more than 1,000 local American Red Cross chapters.
What donors didn't know was that some of the chapters entrusted with all that money had been identified by Red Cross headquarters just a few weeks before for having poor accounting procedures, inaccurate financial reports and for keeping national disaster contributions that should have been sent to headquarters in Washington. That according to internal documents obtained by CBS news.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Charities swung into action after the September 11 terrorist attacks, raising more than $1 billion. But questions are being raised about where and how and how much of that money is being distributed.
Bearing the brunt Tuesday during a hearing of the House Energy and Commerce Committee's oversight panel was outgoing Red Cross President Dr. Bernadine Healy.
The Red Cross has raised more than $564 million for the Liberty Fund, which was set up in response to the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
While the agency states on its Web site that it is spending more than any other relief agency responding to the terrorist attacks, it has distributed only $154 million.
Healy was hammered by one New York official for the Red Cross' decision to put aside nearly half of the money raised for future needs that may include terrorist attacks.

I will not give .10 cents to the RED CROSS, do your research on the RED CROSS and I'll bet you stop that payment!
The RED CROSS ripe the american people off with their "Liberty Fund"
sorry "ripped"
Let's see where more donations come from, the church charities or the Progressive organizations? For the record, even though they act like it, our government is NOT considered a Progressive organization and therefore doesn't count towards Progressive donations. The left hates the churches until there is a disaster and need their compasiionate donations.
By the way, donations from a telethon don't count towards Progressive donations either. Why you ask? Because once again it is NOT their money they are donating.
I heard, today, Bammy has committed $100m to Haitian relief. I'm thinking for all the damage Hollwywood does to this nation, $100m reparations shoud be an amount Tinseltown could handle– put THEIRmoney where THEIR mouths are.
I'd like to suggest that people could also make donations through Christian Relief Fund. They were already doing humanitarian work in Haiti before this disaster, and a "worker already located in Haiti is supervising efforts to rush emergency supplies – initially, food and water, the most urgently needed items, to affected children and families in Port au Prince, Haiti. Another team is enroute and should arrive on Thursday in Cap Haitian, Haiti. The group plans to take a truck loaded with rice, beans, and water into the capital city as soon as possible. "
I like CRF because they truly seem to be in the business of helping people, not profiting off people's misfortunes. They have an outstanding record with Charity Navigator, and the head of the organization only draws a modest salary.

Hey Don, I see where you're coming from in the abstract, but you're not articulating it well .
You need to address that in a different forum and at a time when real people aren't suffering the magnitude we can only begin to imagine.
In other words, BUG OFF!
What he actually said was "we don't need no stinking government to tell us to send aid"
It is done better through churches and other non-goverment organizations as it is more likely to end up where it should.
But you keep reading daily kos, huffpo and the like who'd rather spend bandwidth mocking Rush then actually helping Haiti.
