Demonstrating the same lack of self-esteem as prisoners who beat up child molesters, noisy segments of the American population continue to hyperventilate over Roman Polanski as if the sexual abuse of minors were not already sufficiently condemned by our society. …
I’m confused… Is anyone else confused? Obviously Norman sees some sort of invisible line where condemnation of those who drug and sodomize 13 year-old girls moves from “sufficient” to demonstrating a “lack of self-esteem.” And as someone always concerned with being caught in the act of demonstrating a lack of self-esteem, maybe Norman could let me know when I’ve crossed that line … fire off a flare, or something.

You would think Norman might stop for a moment and ponder over the word “consent,” but you would be wrong.
Regardless of how one feels about Polanski or his confessed/alleged crimes, guilt or innocence should be determined by actual evidence, not mere perception. …

On the other hand, those of us outraged by Polanski’s crimes are “pathetic.” No qualifier there.
You have to love when the left chooses to claim moral high ground. In their delusional world making America less safe by closing Gitmo is morally superior to not; abandoning 25 million Iraqis to death squads and terrorists is morally superior to protecting them; and trashing those outraged by child rape is morally superior to being outraged by child rape.

This may be the most elitist comment I have ever heard. First off it labels anyone who seeks justice as being "pathetic". And second, it sounds as though Mr. Norman believes people who are outraged by child molestation are sitting around thinking, "I may be a huge loser but at least I've never raped a child". To which the opposite of that statement and the one I believe is shared by all of Polanski's supporters is " I may have raped a child, but at least I'm somebody important who make millions of dollars".
And it seems that Mr. Norman and his fellow "friends of Polanski" can easily justify the degree of rape that occurred according to their own "perception" of the facts. So they have effectively set an entirely new standard of law that is based solely on one's "perception" of it instead of the explicit and rigid definitions of it. But I don't mean to dwell on this or anything.

People forget he confessed and was convicted in a court of law. He ran to avoid going to prison not trial.
What Polanksi did IS illegal in Europe. It was rape. Drugs were involved. The age of consent has nothing to do with it. And in some places, like the Balkans, I like to think that he might have ended up with a belly full of shot in a shallow grave (so the dogs can get at him).

And, limit it by three comments as your POV with specific quotes from a particular article written by a conservative commentator. You are not able to do it because you don't have Nolte's skills or discipline. Please read his column again slowly. He calmly presented a point of view to which you are free to respond in kind. Accusing him of dividing the country is off point. Suggesting that Nolte claimed the world would be better off without liberals is a lie. He never came close to that ridiculous statement. Calmly perceive this: we love liberals but we don't want you running the government, organizing education, managing health care, or controlling the MSM. Having sex with a child before the age of consent is rape. It does not matter what child does to "entice" you. The term is statutory rape. Therefore, the fact that an adult had sex with a child does constitute rape. Maybe I am wrong, but did he not provide the girl with ludes, which is also a crime, and also goes a long way to eliminate the ability to consenst, even if she were of age.

The term statutory rape is never used in the lawbooks, only unlawful sex. SR is a common misnomer. Besides, a teenager is not a child anymore by legal definition, but prepubescent , adolescent.

No it's not – a conviction follows a sentence to face jail time as a convict – not the other way around. He never was sentenced, ergo no conviction. All he did was plea guilt and that was reneged on, ergo, not even guilty since there never was a trial.
