In other words, had Tiger Woods lectured schoolchildren on the importance of preserving the institution of marriage, marital fidelity and not being promiscuous — you know, the kind of healthy behavior that’s key to a happy life — she’d be giving him all kinds of hell right now. But, since he only cheated on his wife…

Does that kind of thinking make any sense to you?
It does if you see the design behind it. The left wants to shut the right up, especially those trying to uphold traditional moral standards. And in order to silence those who would stand up for such things, with the help of popular culture and the media, they’ve managed to turn the world upside down into a place where you’re better off not trying to do good than risking the stigma of hypocrisy.
Because he was a drug abuser, was it wrong for Elvis to speak out against drugs? Of course not. Regardless of their personal habits, any role model using their perch to promote healthy behavior deserves credit — even a drug addict.
But I guess in Joy Behar’s world she’ll give a murderer credit for not preaching against murder, a drug abuser credit for not preaching against drugs and here she is giving Tiger his props for not being one of those types who speak out about upholding traditional moral standards … even though the world would be a better place if he had.
It’s an impossible trap the left has set for us. We’re all human and we’re all destined to slip. But that’s the plan — to create an environment where only the sinless are allowed to speak out in favor of upholding morality. And since no one is sinless…
But who’s really on the side of the angels?
Those who extol the virtues of a world where no one demands standards and values; where Roman Polanski’s forgiven because he would never dream of telling someone else not to anally rape a child; where no one strives for anything more than the cowardly pursuit of dodging the “hypocrite” label..?
Or the imperfect ones, the “moral hypocrites” who at least try to do some good?

I give Barbara Walters credit for hiring a special needs person like Joy Behar. Developmentally disabled people need jobs too.

If you go about preaching abstinance (or substitute whatever behavior or vice that comes to mind), and are later found to continuously behave in a manner inconsistent with those beliefs, your message, and credibility is rightly lost with your audience, even if the message is true. That you "tried to do good" with your preaching is irrelavent, and people are right to point you as a hypocrite. Perhaps some people think highly of Jim Bakker or Jimmy Swaggart. Not me.
I'm no fan of Behar, but she's right. If Tiger had gone around preaching family values, does Mr. Nolte think we should be taking it easier on him, or equally harsh? Just to opposite, we should be taking it harder on him. Talk is cheap. That you stood on a high horse when you preached makes your downfall even more ironic.
I disagree that he should get off scot free just because he kept his mouth shut about morality. The fact is, Tiger sells an image. His endorsement income is much more than anything he receives from golf tournament proceeds. I think the long term impact on this will be much higher than the 4 pts on his driving record.
One final point – is it crazy to think that maybe hipocrisy may be worse than serial adultary? Read John 8:7, and tell me your thoughts.
Liberals like Behar love to "make the rules" so when a discussion happens she will always win (in her own mind).

Seriously? Does anyone care what Joy Behar thinks of anything? No need to call a boycott, I have never watched her "talk shows," or found any of her old stand-up routines funny. She's a female Keith Olbermann, but without the glasses.
I just wish people would stop caring what Behar says. Ignore her, stop watching the view and everything else she does and she'll go away. This is a perfect example of why the argument of "If you don't like it, don't watch" is a fallacious one (because of if you don't, someone else who does is going to stick it in your face anyway.
Can you not see that you proved your own point? Tiger NEVER preached abstinence. So, WHY is it an issue? Because Joy just HAD to get a political jab in, pathetic as it was.
This is one of the things that has always bothered me about the "hypocrisy" charge even when I was back in high school. It's not a good thing not to be a hypocrite if it's because you don't bother to uphold any standards.
More celebrities should be "hypocrites." The lifestyle choices that are merely bad for those with wealth and power can be disastrous for those without those resources. It would be better, obviously, if Tiger could keep it in his pants, but he certainly shouldn't go around preaching that others should follow his example. A little preaching about staying faithful and keeping a family together, on the other hand, might do a world of good.

Clinton was impeaced for LYING to CONGRESS about the sex, he didn't get impeached for serial diddling.

I've had the pleasure of interviewing a lot of celebrities through the years … some big A-listers, others who were barely known. I watched Behar at a press event once – and she was the least friendly/hospitable star I've ever witnessed in dealing with the press. And the event I saw her at featured some major figures — and each was kind, polite and generous with his/her time. Not Behar.
I'm glad I'm proving my own point. We should all strive as such.

According to Behar/Goldberg, personal hypocrisy is ok, but societal hypocrisy is abhorrent. This is because for the left, societal image is everything. Personal weakness and decay is fine, as long as you are viewed by others in a positive light.
Of course, they believe that internal rot has no effect on external (or "societal") actions. The only reason Behar/Goldberg won't fault Woods is because they themselves are promiscuous. They *must* champion the absurdity that private actions have no reflection on public actions in order to maintain any semblance of contrived self-worth.
But then again, I'm probably just an idiot who actually believes in and practices the notion that being 100% faithful in marriage is a choice, and not really that hard of a choice at that. Now, being charitable and forgiving to those libtards who offend me…aw crap, just failed again.
Geez, we're all hypocrites in some way. Hypocrisy is not a political party. And, if this issue deserves discussion above the level of gossip, it can be considered a moral issue. Now, leave Tiger and his family alone to work out their situation.
I think Mr. Nolte is giving Behar too much credit. There are people that have these ideas that to remove all moral standards, they could trap the people who embrace those standards when they invariably fall short, even if they face the truth, take their lumps and try to move on. In this way, people that espouse a higher standard, can be discredited on issues other than their moral shortcomings, simply by using the hypocrite label.
Behar-I don't think she is one of the people who wishes to remove all moral standards for those goals, like she is in some kind of political and social chess match. After careful consideration, from hearing many of her remarks of late, I think she is just a f'ing idiot.
The entire purpose of the View is to offend conservatives. Think about the co-hosts over the years: Rosie, Star, Whoopie, and I'm sure Noam Chomsky is in talks for the fall 2010 season. Walters, having been overpaid for sleeping with the right people in the '70's, has so much money, she can continue to produce the show through any ratings decline.

The fact that people will cheat on their loved ones is proof that we need stronger commitment to marriage and respect of the institution. The fact that people get addicted to drugs is proof that we need to fight drug abuse. The fact that people commit crime is proof of the need for law enforcement and extolling the virtues of a law-abiding life.
You'll have to pardon me, but it seems ridiculous that someone needs to explain that to you. And it amazes me how people will very frequently become incredulous that there's a problem but then go right ahead and demonstrate that the problem exists, as you did here: Nolte, like many other commentators, is bemoaning the fact that we're losing focus on the wrong that was done, since nothing seems to be wrong anymore, and instead focusing on whether or not the wrongdoer was 'hypocritical'. You make fun of the position and then affirm it!
Most bizarrely, the definition of 'hypocrisy' that people like you and Behar use is simply without merit. It's not hypocritical to try to live up to a standard and fail, nor is it hypocritical to attempt to influence someone into leading a better life than you have (rebutting the classic "Mom, you smoke so why can't I" argumentation that teenagers use).
I hope everything works out well for Tiger and his family and that he learned a valuable lesson. His affair does not really concern me; however, his reported use of the insensitive and racist term "gone ghetto" in a phone call to a friend and regarding his wife's behavior is something that needs to be addressed. If it is true that the multi-racial Tiger used that phrase, will he have to make a public apology to himself for being racially insensitive? Will Obama hold another race/beer summit with Tiger as his only guest where they can talk about healing internal divides? Will the multi-racial Tiger have to go on the talk show circuit and explain to himself what he meant by the term "gone ghetto"? All questions to consider in today's PC climate.

2 small examples. In the early 70's I ran into Phyllis Diller in the bathroom at LAX. I imitated her to her face (I was little). She grabbed up my face in her hands and kissed the top of my head. Sweet huh?

Tiger has been often photographed in public with the "little wifey" and kids, giving the "appearance" of being a "family man", which is(was) part of his image. If he never appeared in public with said family we might be able to use a different standard. It was his chioce and he blew it.

1. I am not interested in any politician's opinions of family life. The only question question I would have for any of them is: why is this any of the government's facking business?

Yeah. And I notice that his wife's assault with a deadly weapon goes almost completely unremarked. Try to image if Tiger had done what she did, and for the same reasons. Think she'd be getting the grief he is?
There is a scene in Fellinin's Roma where a young man, on his first trip to Rome, goes to a brothel in the catacombs. As the hour lengthens and most of the men begin picking their "dates" the remaining prostitutes become shriller and more vulgar in hopes of getting some work. It's now 3:00am and Joy Behar has just realized unless she can somehow catch the eye of a hunchback with a weeping eye she'll not get paid nor eat the next day.
