Old School Scandal: At Least Tiger Isn’t Madonna
by John NolteFor a couple decades now too many members of the American celebrity and sports class have made millions The Madonna Way: pimping their deviant behavior into fame and fortune — shoving their thug lives, drug lives, and sex lives down our throats and, unforgivably, the throats of our children. With only “at least I’m not a hypocrite” as an excuse, these irredeemables have waged a war to destroy morality, and heaven help those who complain or demand restraint, for we will mercilessly be ridiculed and demeaned as suburban hypocrites, Puritans and worse.

With that other-world talent of his, Tiger Woods could’ve decided on that route — could’ve gotten as rich as he wanted as the Dennis Rodman of golf. Instead Woods chose a quiet dignity and discipline. I’ve never watched a round of golf in my life, but that’s a quality of his I’ve always admired.
And this laudable quality was once the norm in our public figures, not the exception. People have always been people. Celebrities and stars and sports figures have always slept around and drank too much and flirted with scandal. The difference is that once upon a time being famous didn’t require the removal of the shame gene. The legends of old might not have respected themselves but at least they respected their reputations and their public and children enough to keep their personal indiscretions … personal.
Tiger most certainly deserves every bit of shame and humiliation he’s going through because it’s not one-tenth of what his disgusting behavior put his family through, especially his wife. He’s disappointed everyone who emotionally invested themselves in someone they believed to be above such sordid behavior. But in the broader context of the twisted world of celebrity we presently find ourselves in, Tiger at least kept his immorality to himself instead of demanding we accept it.
That’s something … I guess. Something enough anyway, that I’m pulling for him to rehabilitate himself into a better man.

Sure, he kept it quiet, but the very act of cheating on his wife, especially while she was pregnant, is inexcusable. Isn't there anyone out there who is loving and faithful to his wife?
How long until Tiger writes a tell-all???
the only thing people like more than building up a person to myth status…
Is tearing down the icon they created. The redoubtable Mr Woods has had a splendid run; as flawless as someone who achieves his lofty status can do. At $80 million a year (!!) he has both had a high profile as athlete/entertainer and low profile as husband and father.
No longer.
He, like all of us, has been exposed as a mere mortal with feet of clay. The temptations thrown at this remarkable young man must have been both endless- and amazing. Like most of us, he became weak.
It's a sorry as it is predictable. Perhaps he can repair his life and image. But he will never be the same man…
Yeah, but it goes the other way to.
The "No Fault" divorce rules pretty made it "Ok" from a marriage perspective, marriage hardly means anything to the state anymore, why should the public treat it any differently
No God, No Consequences, No Sanity
No God, No Shame, No Fault, No Consequences.
I am surprised we have much of a civilization left to be honest with you.

I'm not really invested in Tiger because I don't tend to idol-worship celebrities. Prior to his statement I was just hoping the story would die a quiet death. But that is not to be. And, while Tiger may be a complete cad, is there any good reason we need to know about it? The tabloid media is very tiresome.
What is this – some White-guilt-driven slobering over Tiger? Why? If he was White you wouldn't have wasted your time. "Talent." BFD. He hits a ball with a stick. He was given too much credit in society as it was. How childish that not only adults are playing and making a living playing children's games, but adults are wasting time WATCHING them do it. This society is truly degenerate.
When will all this negative coverage become Racist?
You know things have gotten really bad for Tiger when the African American community starts referring to him as "that Asian golfer!"
We have placed the people who are able to do things most of us can't in a category we ourselves can not imagine. As everyone should know, in many ways they are just everyday, normal people like any one else; they too, have to pull their pants down to move waste. It's when people place hero status on them that things go wrong. Because heros aren't supposed to F-up. But people forget that normal, everyday, real people do.
If Tiger hadn't been married, and he was caught sleeping around, it would still reflect poorly upon his reputation but it probably would have soon blown over. But because he took a vow of marriage, he's getting the heat now, as he rightly should, because that's "just wrong" in the eyes of so many people. Nevermind all the other "heros" who have compromised their reputations in so many other ways. There's just too many people with their noses in the wrong place.
The media? First admendment, baby! Our choice? Play along or ignore the conversations you don't want to join in.
LOL! Good one. I saw a reference to a rather sly bit of comedy from King of the Hill in another comment somewhere else on BB. In an episode featuring an Asian golf club they try to claim Tiger as a great Asian golfer! LOL!
Q: What's the difference between a car and a golf ball?
A: Tiger can drive a golf ball more than 300 yards.
Tiger Beat….
So what are acceptable "adults'" games, then? Or is it part of your definition of adulthood that one does not waste one's time with games?
It's all image these days. We didn't know Tiger Woods before this happened and we don't know him now. The lesson in all of this is that we should admire the good people we know and ignore the stuff written about celebrity athletes and entertainers who it seems live in another world. Let's hope Tiger can repair his marriage and his character and leave all the fantasies about the courage it takes to come from behind to win another tournament to the people who don't know him either.
This society is truly degenerate.
You can always leave. I'll even hold the door open for you.
Dan – it will never become racist because Tiger has pretty much not been who the 'blacks as victims' brigade wanted him to be. He never saw himself as a victim, and is also the poster child for free market capitalism and individual achievement.
I can only wish Tiger Woods sex life and/or indiscretions would be the biggest concern we have to worry about in this Country. At this time or any other time.
Great minds think alike Jed. (now if we could just find a few)
The saying is,
"Hypocrisy is the tribut that Vice pays to Virtue."
The presence of hypocrisy is a sign that there are still standards that require some living up to. A culture where nobody hides their shame is a culture that has no standards; you wouldn't want to live there.
As a wife and mother, I would have a really hard time forgiving my husband, especially after hearing that he asked his mistress to put her number under a different.
Is he only sorry because he got caught?
The man is worth say 500 million. His wife is beautiful. His is admired by many. What the hell would have him make such a dumb ass mistake? I think if his father was still alive that old Marine would smack Tiger upside the head and say What Were You Thinking?
Despite the undoubtedly deep and riveting insights by John Nolte based on the misbehavior of a golfer, who cares?
You continue to prove what an idiot you are. Anti-Semitic and racist? Hits a ball with a stick? Children's game? Sure, golf courses are filled with school children.
And you whine about adults watching them do it yet you're spending time posting on websites? TOO FUNNY!
You epitomize dumbed-down.
The gigantic difference between Tiger Woods and Madonna: Madonna pushed the sexual envelope as a part of her career, first and foremost, not as part of her shady double-dealing personal life. She used her art to promote sexual power and openness for WOMEN. And, whether you think it's right or wrong, she achieved it. Things she did that shocked Americans at the time hardly raise eyebrows anymore, and she took the arrows for that to happen. Tiger… not at all. He's just another rich jag that cheated on his wife. Real higher purpose there, right? So, no, Tiger Woods is not like Madonna, Madonna had a hundred reasons to bring her sexuality to the forefront of her persona, Tiger Woods just effed around.
There are no "at least's" in my opinion. Anybody who cheats on their spouse for any reason deserves all the backlash they get.
I'm with you… Ok, a rich golfer cheats on his wife. Move on.
Even his "scandal" is kind of boring. Dr. J bangs the first female reporter ever let into a locker room. Michael Jordon knocks up a stripper. Chales Barkely is so drunk he is babbling about the great BJ he just got to the cops, and that is after owing Casinos 1/4 million bucks. Kobe Bryant likes to anally rape women and ejaculate onto their faces.
Tiger Woods? He drives his car into a tree in front of his house, apparently sober, and is cited 164 dollars because he didnt have shoes on. What a boring SOB.
Tiger's dad who seemed like a straight up guy must be spinning in his grave.
And, give Madonna some credit, she's be the first to admit she's a dysfunctional slut.
Actually, I'd like to see his Birth Certificate too.
I agree. Conservative-minded people aren't going to give up until our country is ruined.
Interesting, if salacious, stuff. The only other thing I have to say is that none of these women seems to have an IQ bigger than their bra size. I guess that is not a requirement for someone who can't keep his pants on, even when his wife is pregnant with their second child. But we do have bigger fish to fry in Washingon folks, so let's get on with it.
Adultery is always wrong, but understandable when it happens in the context of coworkers who get too close, friends who spend too much time together, etc… In this case, he has a minimum of three different mistresses that he's had long-term flings with, not to mention all the one-night stands we don't know about. The guy is rich, famous, and married to a Sweedish model. There is no excuse, and despite this being a personal matter, he's lost my respect. When you think about what he's done to his wife and kids, all you can do is shake your head.
Why are so many people incapable of saying that they're just not happy, instead choosing to completely betray their spouse while acting like nothing is wrong until the other person has wasted many of their best years (and you have even more children dragged into the mess)? It's gutless and he deserves everything he gets over this.
Hear, hear!
I'm tired of the aristocracy of celebrity.
Seems kind of self-defining of an adult to eschew "games." This notion of an arrested development man-child is a very new creation in society entirely dreamed up by the media.
I'd leave in a heartbeat. Perhaps the best time period was the Victorian one.
(?) Soooo, women are better off because Madonna took her clothes off? You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but as someone who was in her teens when Madonna was at her high point in fame, I don't think society has benefited from her presence. She was just another performer who used shock value to garner attention (like Marylin Monroe did during her time). She just upped the ante when the public grew numb to her antics. Now she struggles for relevance in a world that has shifted its attention elsewhere. Higher purpose and Madonna is not something I have ever seen someone try to argue before…
Good post D, I was in the process of taping to prep for painting my folks bathroom, and had Greta on. I was not watching just listening, Anyway some guy who I've never heard of comes on playing and commenting on the voice mail Tiger left. I had to turn the channel, because this jerk's voyeurism was making me ill, and I felt the need to take a shower after listening for only a couple of minutes.
I am not a Tiger fan, and often root against him especially in the US Open a couple of years ago, however I have great admiration for his golf skills, as for his private life, I couldn't care less.
I feel bad for his wife and kids. I can't begin to imagine the dazzling and plethora of temptations thrown his way and he has until now, been kinda boring. I wish him well.
Maybe he has that problem Elvis had. He can't have sex with his wife now that she's a mother.
I dunno…your wife bashing your car with a golf club (and you are TIGER F*N WOODS) because you're cheating is kind of a good scandal….
It's regretable that he has made so many poor choices but the public demand for someone who is in no way obligated to answer to them about his personal matters to come out and tell them exactly what happened is shocking.
It's amazing to see how big the paparazzi and celebrity stalking industry has become; the implication of which means a lot of people have a disturbing need for such useless information.
But isn't someone who hides their immorality a little bit worse than someone who doesn't hide it? You're piling sin on sin, aren't you? Not only are you a lustful hedonist, you're a lying one to boot. So in some ways, Tiger's worse than Madonna, who never pretended to be bound by social mores. I was never a Tiger fan, as golf is like drying paint to me, but I'm not pulling for him one way or another.
Just to lighten the mood, but not leaving the theme of overindulgence completely: I'm watching my dvr'd Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Concert that aired on HBO last weekend. How in God's name is David Crosby still alive??!
Did anyone think his wife smashed the rear window to free him?
What I don't get is this getting on TV and a apologizing to his wife in public. Its none of our business what he does with his wife, mistress and car. He should have kept his mouth shut to the press and deal with this with his wife. Give me back the old days when celebrities got caught they would make a crack about it and move on. The guy is rich, famous and runs around, its not right, but its his life and he wants to wreck his little piece of paradise then he will. Who cares….
The higher they climb the harder they fall. Next…………..and who cares. He knew what he was doing and just like my old cliche he got caught shocker. Society has just turned into a daytime soap opera.
Perhaps you should go live in a cave somewhere and completely forsake humanity as a hermit. Give us all a break here.
Not anymore.
Thank heavens he is not. Madonna is one of the worst hypocrites ever. I wonder if she knows people laugh at her?
I hope Tiger and his wife make it.
Careful SQT, not caring about Tiger's personal life might get you a "racist" card.
I agree and don't get it either. It must be that we now live in the Orpah/Jerry Springer confessional USA society now. We all get bombarded with so much useless information. I know I could do without this particular story.
"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.”
George Bernard Shaw (Playwright and Essayist. 1925 Nobel Prize for Literature, 1856-1950)
Play, TonyTwoShoes, before it's too late and you can't.
Someting was said on the radio today that makes me think. If a man beats his wife – for any reason, the cops will arrest him. Reverse the roles and…..
I think Woods in keeping quiet is thinking about the 10s of millions in endorsement fees….
Sorry. He is contemptible.
I am happy for his family that he is not airing his laundry though. I do not get the fascination and wall-to-wall coverage.
Among his many other transgressions, Tiger got the First Law of Celebrity wrong–one does not cheat ON the hot bikini model, one cheats WITH the hot bikini model. The correct order is this: 1) Marry nice, sweet, supportive girl when you are both young and poor; 2) Become fantastically rich and successful; 3) Dump first wife and family for hot bikini model.
Sarcasm aside, what irks me most is that this is all so unnecessary. Nobody made Tiger get married young. You want to sow wild oats? Have at it! But don't get married, start a family and only THEN discover this terrible itch. We would be a better world with a few athletes/singers/actors who were good men first and good performers second.
Well, it just goes to show that making tens of millions of dollars, having a model for a wife, and two beautiful
kids, just wasn't enough. I feel no pity for him whatsoever. And yes his apoligy was only to "save face".
He's tainted the great integrity of professional golfers.
As the old saying goes: behind every beautiful woman, there is some entitled prick who's bored with her.
We must be about the same age. I was a teen when she first hit it big too. I didn't get her popularity then and I don't get it now. At least Marilyn Monroe had talent!
Just amazes me that people admire Madonna for stuff like that. Kind of sad that our generation has never known anyone who could be admired for their talents and their virtues. I've been told there was a time in this country's history where we did have people to admire. Now we have Madonna and Paris Hilton.
It's called ego.
Maybe Obama was behind this leak as punishment to Woods for giving such a patriotic speech at the "inauguration" and not lamenting about Obama in that speech. Like the mafia, he waited til things quieted down. Something this far-fetched and I still can believe that a creep like Obama would and could do something like this.
And Perez Hilton.
That is another reason to respect Woods more than many other high-profile Black adulterers. Jesse Jackson is STILL playing the "Black victim" card after he was caught cheating.
Woods strikes me as a Black guy who will quietly face the consequences of his actions instead of blaming others.
Amen.
Your right Tony, nobody would be impressed with a white guy who was the greatest golfer of his era. Just like no one is impressed with Brett Favre with his 40-year-old pro-bowl season because of the color of his skin. No one is impressed with Federer and his unbelievable accomplishments on a tennis court. Tiger just catches all the breaks.
Marylin did have talent. I just used the example to preempt the no other woman before her did that argument. As if Madonna was sooo unique.
The whole Paris Hilton thing is offensive. You know we've fallen far when someone can be famous for making a sex tape.
That was my feel. The media acted like they had the right to know about this man's personal business.
I agree with both D. and spinalcracker! The "news" coverage of these celebrities is ridiculous. It is only a matter of time before the "darlings" become the damned. It reminds me of a group of vicious, salivating dogs who are delighted to tear a person to pieces. What does that say about the rest of us who put up with all of that. I even get disgusted with FOX because they are out there salivating with the rest of them. Shameful!
So…anything goes if you hide it well enough?
I'm not sure I can go there with you. Is is too much to ask that we choose heroes who are "heroic"?
Tiger played the game, (the "hero game"), well and no one was the wiser. Now we are. His marriage is between he and Elin.
However, his "hero status" is for us to decide, and unfortunately, we now know he falls short.
Regardless, he should have been smart enough to know that he couldn't keep his indiscretions to himself in the twitter age. I feel no sympathy for poor Tiger. When you get down in the dirt with grubs, you're bound to get some on you. Elin will be serving him papers soon. Bet on it.
Yes, he simply took responsibility for his action. At the least, that's one thing he does right.
Amen
The wall to wall coverage is due the fact that he became a BILLIONAIRE by selling a PUBLIC image that was completely at odds with his real personal conduct. He chose to live in the public eye to enrich hinself, and now he wants to whine about living in the public eye. The nature of that beast is; you can't turn it off.
His keeping things "quiet" appears to me to be more of a patholgical variety: that is, he has an over-controlling personality. Just part of the narcissistic personality disorder that brought him to this end.
Ummm yeah, real high purpose life of Madonna. What an achievement that things she did then hardly raised an eyebrow now!
Of course the media's going to be all over Tiger's recent problems. It's either that or having to talk about their precious climate change being a total lie.
If the f'n media would vet some of Comrade Obama's appointees/cronies as they do celebs, this country would be in far better shape. If your wife can't trust you why should anyone else?
Isn't there anyone out there who is loving and faithful to his wife?
Yeah, me.
Regardless of what journalists, reporters, magazine and news paper publishers spout about the higher duty and calling of their craft, They're in the business of selling content.
Everything comes down to economics. They need to attract eyeballs in order to sell ad revenue. So what ever they think will attract the most, gets the most coverage.
And apparently they believe Woods will do that.
I'm not. I firmly believe there are many wonderful Americans out there, just living their lives, flying under pop culture's radar. They are America's back bone. They are decent, hard working people, raising families, building their communities.
How ever, the press can't sell a whole lot of ads by covering them, so instead they go for the salacious dirt.
But make no mistake, they are out there.
Sorry he got caught!
no matter whether you like him or not- he has been an exemplary example of sportsmanship and gentleman-like behaviour. Exposing his human weaknesses should give solace to no one…
his squeaky clean image is a joke. if you ever watch him in a tournament, he acts almost as bad as happy gilmore when he hits a bad shot. he swears and throws a fit. not surprised he's like most everybody else.
Sure, Tiger is a great talent when it comes to golf. Too bad he thought he could step out of a carefully crafted image, and act like a self indulgent jerk with ' no one being the wiser' in this day of YouTube, Face Book, Sexting, gossip websites and magazines, and so on.
When your best friends are Jordan and Barkley…not exactly personal- life role models, that 's not a good sign. He should have paid attention to the Paul Newman observation: (paraphrase)' Why go out for hamburger when I have steak at home'. But, that would take a 'grown-up' approach to life. Tiger isn't a grown- up, yet.
The answer is a loud 'YES' !
Sorry, Mr. Nolte, but such behavior can't be mitigated by comparing more flagrant behavior, by pointing out the Madonnas' of the culture…..
I've always wondered about that sour look on Tiger's face. Perhaps, the recent tale of events, helps [somewhat] to explain it. However, I think Tiger still does not "Get it:"
[Continued in the follow-up comment]: …………………………………………..
As I was saying: "….Tiger still does not "Get it:"
Woods says, "Personal sins." But Tiger also, makes mention of "His" values. Puzzling? Using Biblical terminology of "Sins," — isn't there an obligation to also express sorry toward the Triune God, — and, not "His" own values? Qualifying his personal failings as [just] private and personal, falls short. Woods not only deeply hurt [offended] his wife and family, and many of his sport's following, but he did public damage. Police [on the taxpayer's dime] were dispatched to do what they are duty bound. [A home, basement hammer carpentry accident inflicted on one's thumb, is "Private."]
Tiger Woods, has basked in the public spotlight as this world's most prominent golfer. I've never witnessed him objecting to all that accolade publicity, nor hiding his face, producing his multi-million dollar product endorsements. In the same token, Mr. Woods, should realize that his public profile, rubs, both ways……..
This morning I turned on the TV and there they were talking about it again. Off went the TV. Unless his wife zaps him across the head with the club, I am uninterested in hearing what the line of girls have to say or that Tiger is upset that the public wants to know the details (lord!). Sort of like Michael Jackson. What is to know besides he is dead, his makeup was tattooed to his face and he died from an overdose? Call me when he rises from the dead and moonwalks across the morgue floor.
You will call me when either of those things happens right?? : )
You're correct.
BETRAYAL does and should have a very high price tag.
Are there any women out there who don't hit their 40's and decide they no longer love their husbands and turn their families upside down? Most divorces are initiate by women for frivolous reasons.
haha that reminds me of a joke a friend of mine in high school made about himself after getting into a (really stupid) car accident that totalled his car. He was 1/4 black and played golf so compared himself to woods quite often.
Anyway the joke was: "Whats the difference between me and Tiger Woods?" "Tiger Woods can drive" haha anyway I guess he was wrong because Tiger can't drive either.
I think this is a sad situation and wish it would get a little less media coverage.
While the media draws you attention to "Tiger Woods" and "Uninvited Guests" they refuse to expose real scandals!

In "The Merchant of Venice", Shakespeare has Portia say "We do pray for mercy, and this same prayer doth teach us all to render the deeds of mercy." I have always thought that "mercy" is a peculiarly conservative virtue and also believe it should be extended to Tiger Woods. The only reason this has become such a flap is that he is, well, Tiger Woods. If this happened to Matt Goggin, Bart Bryant or Stewart Cink (no offense meant and estimable golfers all) we wouldn't give it a second thought. I strongly believe that we should all exercise mercy in this case and just let it drop. Tiger has been embarassed, he knows it, and far too much has been made of what is basically a minor driving accident and a person's very private business.
Kristal88 "Maybe he has that problem Elvis had. He can't have sex with his wife now that she's a mother."
This has to fall under any excuse will do! They have 2 kids, right?
I assume you are joking.
By the way, I love floppingaces.net, but the comments there are unbelievable. "She's lucky to have someone of Tiger's stature, she drove him to it, he should be able to mess around all he wants, etc" What is wrong with these men?
"With that other-world talent of his, Tiger Woods could’ve decided on that route — could’ve gotten as rich as he wanted as the Dennis Rodman of golf. Instead Woods chose a quiet dignity and discipline. I’ve never watched a round of golf in my life, but that’s a quality of his I’ve always admired."
I have to disagree with Mr. Nolte's assertion. Golf is not basketball. If you don't have discipline, you can't even play golf. In addition, their audiences are worlds apart, and hence the endorsement products are worlds apart. Who is a golf "bad-boy"? John Daly?
If Tiger had gone the route of Dennis Rodman in golf, he would be a pariah. You think companies would line up to be endorsed by Dennis Rodman in golf? Accenture? Buick? He may win plenty of tournaments, but he would have little endorsement income, which if you look closely, is by far the majority of his income, completely overshadowing any income from golf wins.
I wish it was JUST Hollywood; it seems to be the culture of the self-annointed spokesmen of the culture everywhere.
I agree with you, and take no solace in his recent misfortunes.
I don't give a flying fig what is going on in his personal life. It's his business and you're right he has never made his personal life part of his public persona. I can't stand Madonna for the very reasons that you've pointed too. She is a PIG! Rolling around in her own stench.
That's true.
Yeah but there arn't many of them…
Someone should pay me for being pessimistic.
I'll believe that Americans are decent once the average birth rate for non latinos goes above 2 Children per Female. God Damn crackers wont have any kids…
Why we should be talking about Tiger Woods at all on Big Hollywood is beyond me. Gasp, Celebrities cheating on each other, its not like that hasn't happened before right?
Golf is an Abomination… Pardon me Obamanation.
I disagree. I have no way to directly prove it, but I think there really is a silent majority that's vastly larger than the MSM or any other liberal based organization would have us believe. They're just busy doing their own thing, raising families, working, paying bills.
The MSM and left have a vested interest in convincing us we are the minority. It's a lot easier to convince people to go along with you if you are the majority. Take a look at climategate for a stellar example of that.
Every one agrees on global warming because every one else agrees, so come on over and believe with us. Now we know why there was so few skeptics because they were black listed.
As I said I have no direct evidence of my theory, but I do have some anecdotal evidence. If the majority of Americans were really like John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Obama, then America simply could not exist as it does now.
These clowns aren't out there making America work, so it has to be some one else. Those are the people I'm talking about. I refer to these people as the Great American Middle. The last time I saw them come together was on 9/11. The time before that was probably was probably World War II.
: )
(Raising my hand) Right here!
I must admit that my mother is guilty of personifying your description. It's a shame people don't honor their vows anymore.
yeah, me, too.
"If Tiger hadn't been married, and he was caught sleeping around, it would still reflect poorly upon his reputation"
no. Derek Jeter apparently gets more a$$ than the proverbial toilet seat in a dysentery ward and he could hardly be any more popular.
Very well said, Mr. Nolte!
Very well said, Mr. Nolte!
Good for you!
"A culture where nobody hides their shame is a culture that has no standards; you wouldn't want to live there."
Were you talking about Hollywood?
at least madonna is no tiger should have been your message. i've never read anything about madonna being a cheater, a cad, a liar, or a fool.
Uh, hey, there's this blog called Big Hollywood? Where you're posting your pithy snarks at John Nolte's discussion of Tiger Woods? And this blog? It's all about taking back the culture from the degenerate leftists?
Yeah, I thought so. I could spell it out in crayon and you still wouldn't get it.
"Muslims do appear to have a harder time assimilating into American culture, but that could very well be because they come from such different countries. I'm not too worried about that, but it does need to watched. immigrants are the back bone of America."
I realize I can sound like a damn Racial Purist at times, but it aint about them being immigrants, its about their Religion. Islam as a religion is repulsive, it is violent, and it is dangerous.
These arnt the paupers of Europe coming on on boats, these are, quite simply put, Barbarians. Real Muslims, who obey the Koran, are ultra conservatives, and by that I mean they would take us back to the bronze age. Of course, there is nothing we can do but educate ourselves, and make more babies to compensate. We cant and shouldn't try to drive them out.
"The true greatness of America isn't in industry, it's in the entrepreneurial spirit in the individual American citizen."
And just a paragraph before you are talking about how after 3 or 4 generations Americans become chiefly interested in entitlements. We cant rely on idealized notions of "Entrepreneurial spirit" when we lose our industry to the unions or our health care to the government.
In some ways, I admit, I am a misanthropic elitist. I am very very proud of my country, for what it has been, and to a certain degree still is, but we are on the same road as the Romans, and the British after them , and we cant do a damn thing about it until we realize it.
There is a very important part to be played by Conservative pessimism.
That is a good read of the story. Other sports stars get a pass on this sort of thing – not that that means Tiger should, but instead it says something about who he seemed to be. It's surprising with Tiger Woods – it wasn't with Kobe (his was only in the news because he was accused of rape).
Sad story.
Why do you have to drag a decent, respectable woman such as Madonna into Tiger's Den?? Attention grabbing headline for sure.
I thought the same thing Debbie. Instead of leaving a voice mail that said "Hey, I'm trying to save my marriage, DON'T ever call me again."……No, he say's "My wife caught me, so for now on when you call, make sure your name doesn't show up on my caller ID." He's got alot of growing up to do. She should take the $300 Million, and kick his butt to the curb.
Meryl Streep strikes me as a moral public figure. But, I guess, because she keeps her personal private, has been married for around 25 years and has raised four children, it doesn't qualify her to your moral standard. Apparently, because she walks the Christian talk without the Christian beliefs, it precludes her from any kind of logical respect.
"but I think there really is a silent majority"
I don't think we disagree on the facts. I think our definitions of wonderful Americans are very different.
"These clowns aren't out there making America work, so it has to be some one else."
Making America work?
Our demographics are declining, in 50 years we will have huge numbers of Muslims, both immigrants and 2nd generations. Atheism is on the rise among the Christian population, and Americans are having less and less kids. The world increasingly relies on us for all its military support, we are spiraling into debt, we haven't had a leader with backbone for at least 22 years,
a majority of the American people voted in Obama, and a plurality of Republicans nominated George Bush, the reason we have Obama now…
American Industrial Might is being destroyed because "Blue Collar" workers want to retire when they are 40! Our society as a whole is having less and less toleration for any bloodshed overseas, we have not been tested in a major war for the last 40 years, we have failed to embrace Nuclear power or natural gas…and since landing on the moon the government and the general public has not endorsed any major space exploration
To put it simply: We are Doomed…
Well maybe not, there's always Hope…and Change…
Well, the question remains – What kind of reputation do you want for yourself? Tiger obviously didn't care if he was known as an adulterer. Or if he did, he was willing to accept the hit to his inarguable position as a role model or hero. But if he wasn't married, his rep would only have been that he's maybe a bit sleazy, like Jeter (being married or not.) But he still would have to accept sleaziness as how he is perceived by the public. I'm not sure that Tiger would want even that now if he could do things over.
I can agree with the facts of your assessment, and simply come up with a different analysis.
I'm a third generation American, grand son of Polish and Slovak shoe makers, and Irish and German farmers. And I consider myself 100% American. Muslims do appear to have a harder time assimilating into American culture, but that could very well be because they come from such different countries. I'm not too worried about that, but it does need to watched. immigrants are the back bone of America. Seems to me after 3 or 4 generations, Americans seem to become more interested in entitlements than working their ass off to get some where. Immigrants usually don't do that. They're just damn glad to be not where they were.
America's industrial might is, in my opinion, not really all that important. The true greatness of America isn't in industry, it's in the entrepreneurial spirit in the individual American citizen. Each and every one of us Americans, working on our own ideas to help ourselves, is the great American collective power. That, in my opinion is our greatest strength. It's not what we can do now, its what we're planning to do tomorrow.
And, while I'm a Sci-Fi fan, unless scientists can figure out some way to make it economical – i.e. pay for itself, I'm not all that interested in major space exploration. The moon race was based on showing the Russians, we could do it faster, better. We did that. Now what's the benefit?
Show me a benefit, and I'm all for it. Just to say we did it because we could, then find some one else to pay for it. My taxes are high enough.
My definition of the Great Silent Majority of America is simply those people, who surround us every day. They go to work, they raise their families, they worship in what ever form they choose, and they generally don't complain. They vote, but they're generally not overly political. And they only come to pop culture's attention, when there's a need.
In other words, they're not out there trying to make waves, but if waves need making, they are ready, willing and able to do so.
That is the most lame garbage I have heard in a long while. You must be defending your own actions.
Sorry Tiger but White isn't not the new Black…try dating a sista for once.

I think that occasionally something for ornament, or bad, in addition to people in a good mood, but also more beautiful handsome. This is not exactly what we want?
