Mediaite does a good job exposing how sites like HuffPo, Raw Story and the usual suspects are “presenting this video clip as evidence of [Palin's] naivete” — the idea being to embarrass the former Governor with headlines that portray her as the dupe of a practical joke when the actual video shows the complete opposite. But I think Mediaite’s letting everyone off a little easy.

The elites laughing at Palin aren’t doing so because they believe she should have known ”Marg Delahunty” is the Canadian Jon Stewart, they’re laughing because their warped values tell them that only an unsophisticated hick would take the time to talk to anyone like a Marg Delahunty.
My guess is that what Sarah Palin saw in this woman was what anyone not poisoned by elitism would’ve seen: The Susan Boyle Of Broadcasting — a somewhat odd, middle-aged lady who probably put her aspirations on hold to raise a family in some place no one’s ever heard of, and then when the kids were grown and starting lives of their own, she grabbed a microphone and set out to make her dreams come true.
And what did Sarah do? She was kind to this woman … twice. In the feeding frenzy of a book tour, America’s favorite Hockey Mom didn’t blow off or pretend not to hear someone who looked like she might be lucky to have a cable access show, she gave her a serious, thoughtful soundbyte…
Leftist snobs laugh because in their cruel little pompous bubble no one would dream of taking a moment to talk to the Marg Delahuntys of the world — a real person — someone like that. And if they do it’s only with a noticeable wink for the cocktail circuit back home; the answering of a question with a condescending smirk, patronizing attitude, and commentary laced with hip irony…
One of the lasting legacies of the Tea Party protests is how that movement finally and forever exposed the utter contempt and loathing coastal elites harbor for everyday Americans. The cheap snickering over this video only reinforces that lesson, and Sarah Palin’s unfailing kindness towards Ms. Delahunty only reinforces my abiding respect and affection for her.

I watched this video yesterday and was bracing myself for the moment when Palin might look foolish. The moment never came. Afterward I thought, "is that it? Is that all the left has on Palin? Why does anyone think these people are intelligent. Oh wait, I know. It's because they spend all of their time telling each other how brilliant they are."
If that's all they can come up with for comedy in Canada, they might want to give it up.

Not nice at all. I am a Canadian who has lived in the US since 1973 and became a citizen in 1998. I am a supporter of Sarah Palin and like her precisely because she reminds me of the good solid character of everyday Americans and Canadians. I assume you are commenting on this site because you are a conservative or Republican but be careful when making blanket negative statements about an entire nation of people. Saying that "….every Canadian I've ever know(n) has been obnoxious and arrogant…" makes you sound like a leftist. Please pull back your horns and reconsider your dismissive attitudes about all Canadians.

This is another taxpayer-funded TV show from the Canadian public-broadcasting channel CBC. Even most Canadians don't watch that channel. Usually only one show cracks the Top 20 in weekly audience numbers.

All of which is well and good, Mr. Nolte… except that Palin wasn't/isn't running for a People Magazine Niceness Award, she was/is running to be President/Vice-President – aka Leader of The Free World.
What do I want in a leader? Ruthlessness. Skepticism. Cynicism. A being of the mind. A thinker. I want someone who DOES know every possible variable, who DOES assume the worst and plan for it. In other words, someone who WOULDN'T get tricked by a 5th-rate "Borat" routine. I'm SURE she's a nice person. Y'know what? CARTER was a nice person – remember how that worked out? To paraphrase Jon Stewart recently, I DON'T "hate" Palin for the gun-owning, rural-living, god-fearing folksiness – those are the LIKABLE qualities. SQT, you answered your own questions. The left-tards do think they are better than everyone else. They not only do not have any connections to the regular people but they do not want to have any connections with the regular people because they hate and despise them. I know quite a few of that type and the only reason I can get along with them is because I try to treat all people with courtesy and respect, even those who feel they have the right to villify and dehumanize those people they disagree with. I guess I am fortunate that I look like some outlaw biker or they might be tempted to treat me the same way. I am ever hopeful that my good example will eventually rub off on them and they will become true civilized human beings.
This is how Canada's "comedians" have treated our Prime Minister, too, since he entered the public spotlight years before he won his first election. If our example is any indication, the Sarah will only get a boost out of the trashing, as Steven Harper has been PM for nearly four years now, and is on the verge of winning his first majority government.

Evening all. I'm not sure why everyone is getting so worked up about this. Mary Walsh is the actress that plays this character Marg Delahunty. It's lame and well past it's expired date and the only reason it still gets played is because it's on a show on the CBC (government subsidized TV network, sort of like PBS). Her schtick is to barge into press conferences, meetings, book signings and basically be obnoxious. I thought Palin handled it well (especially since she had no idea who this idiot was) and displayed why she is so admired.
I really don't know why Walsh would do this as most of her act comes from the "victim" knowing who she is and she must of known that she (Walsh) would come off as an boob to anyone (American or Canadian) watching the video.
