‘Blind Side’ Director ‘Regrets’ Bush-Bashing Joke
by John NolteFirst off, kudos to Patrick Goldstein at the L.A. Times who yesterday proved capable of criticizing Big Hollywood without making a whole lot of stuff up. We trust and hope this is the start of a new relationship, a turning over of a new leaf…
Bygones Patrick, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Not to steal any of Big Government’s thunder, but in that massive ACORN dumpster dump a Leftist Decoder Ring was found that translates Left-speak into what the rest of us call The Truth. Mike Flynn was kind enough to let me use it in order to translate Goldstein’s write up…
Goldstein: It used to be the liberals who loved to play the victim. But now it’s conservatives who just can’t enough of that warm and cuddly feeling of being an oppressed minority.
Decoder Ring: Uh,oh, they’re starting to fight back.
–
Goldstein: Nolte proposes the wildly paranoid theory that even if you are a conservative working in Hollywood, you have to placate the Bush-hating liberals by taking shots at conservatives in your movies.
Decoder Ring: Wildly Paranoid = Does George Soros know he’s on to us?
–
Goldstein asked “Blind Side” director John Lee Hancock about the Bush joke. Here’s his full answer:
“This wasn’t in the book. It was something I witnessed several years ago in a post office. It was not intended to represent Leigh Anne Tuohy’s feelings about Bush (she’s a conservative Republican) but rather the civil servant’s. Given Leigh Anne’s dress and demeanor I figured the civil servant would be knocking down Leigh Anne a notch by taking a slap at Bush. I always thought of it as a smile, not a laugh. After completing the movie and playing it for an audience I realized it was, for some, more of a laugh, and a cheap one to boot. I do regret not coming up with something more clever. But it wouldn’t be a movie of mine if I didn’t somehow figure out a way to piss off both conservatives and liberals.”
“After completing the movie and playing it for an audience…”?
Wait … What?
…To the Decoder Ring!
Decoder Ring: See bull shit detector.
Bull Shit Detector: A major studio film with an A-list star had no test screenings prior to picture being locked?
The director all but admits the joke’s falling flat with audiences, so what was different about his test audience? And you would think the studio would’ve made sure to hold early screenings for their target audience, conservative Christians. But it was only after the film couldn’t be edited that the joke fell flat? Every test audience hears the same speech, “This is a work in progress.” The whole idea of test screenings is to remove “cheap” laughs in order to avoid “pissing off” your audience.
I stand by my ”wildly paranoid” speculation, which boils down to … way too many Hollywoodists saw an early cut of the film and told the director: “Dude, you gotta leave that in!”

I see the other side of it. Bush has been blamed by Liberals for everything under the sun, why not blame him for lazy office workers too?
How many glasses of kool-aid do I have to drink to earn MY liberal decoder ring?
No doubt about your conclusion with me. In that atmosphere, they hear it all the time and all think Bush bashing is smug and fun… out here… not so much. And it is insightful that he admits, the joke wasn't in the book, he just thought he'd insert something he heard in a post office…
That little smear will have cost that film dearly I'm thinking. Another movie I will not watch, right from the get-go because I'm fed up with slipped-in jokes about conservatives, our values, our presidents, or our motives.
I think the "GWB Bashing!" reaction is probably overreacting, but understandable in the light of the constant stream of crap we conservatives take in the media. It's a sound bit moment, that doesn't take much effort to understand. I hope we conservatives don't get as thin skinned as the liberals.
What tends to temper my thinking on that: I watched Ms. Bullock on the Craig Furgeson(? the tall Scottish guy who recently became a US citizen (welcome!)) Show pimping the movie. The clip they showed? The one causing all the controversy. So maybe it is more of a publicity move than a slap at GWB.
The "joke" wasn't necessary and it it will probably cost the producers money from smaller ticket and DVD sales. Showbiz rule of thumb: when in doubt leave it out.
Shorter summary: "Ah c'mon, I had to slip one in somewhere! Hey, no harm no foul, right?"
Thus the movie becomes a period piece, from that period when libs thought they could ride Bush-bashing straight through 2010 and 2012. "See how much better we did than that loser Bush?!"
Yup, that Hope and Change is really working out for this director…
I just don't care anymore. Hollywood is a lost cause and I will no longer waste my time with the "Hollywood is making anti-American propaganda" stuff, because it will always be a foregone conclusion with me. The famous "liberal tell" will always be there, Americans will always be racist white homophobes who need "a stern talking to by the Hollywood elite" because god damn it they know better. They are smarty pants people who have the world figured out. That craap couldn't be further from the truth. See you in hell, Hollywood.
Not to worry. There will be plenty of chances for Obama to get bashed by Hollywood 4 years from now. No wait! Silly me! Who am I KIDDING? In 4 years Hollywood liberals will only make movies about Obama that glorify his eminence and what could have been if he had only been given 4 more years, or even better a presidency for life. But then again, in four years there won't be any money left over here to finance movies. But wait! Now I seee! THAT's why Spielberg is teaming up with Bollywood!! They will still have money! It's all clear now! And doesn't North Korean President Kim Jong-il fancy himself a director, having written a book, "ON THE ART OF THE CINEMA". The Chinese (who still have money) will bankroll his movie making; so yes, I guess the movies about THE ADORATION will continue.
The photo above is not flattering for either person.. : )
"But it wouldn’t be a movie of mine if I didn’t somehow figure out a way to piss off both conservatives and liberals.”
So… how did he piss off liberals?
I'm just wondering when/if the Libs are finally/ever going to stop it with all the stupid Bush bashing jokes…
"But it wouldn’t be a movie of mine if I didn’t somehow figure out a way to piss off both conservatives and liberals.”
To Patrick Goldstein & John Lee Hancock:
Knowing the difference between "right and wrong" and "right and left" is an inexact science in your world. But people don't liked to get pissed on. And how perfectly did Mr. Hancock just give us a "from the horse's mouth" moment.
'Pissing on America' has been a marvelous passtime for you losers at the LA Times and you CO2-emitting hypocrites in Hollywood. Perhaps Hancock must learn that his pee fetish is not shared by everyone. I'll keep my 'green in my jeans' and let me know when Blind Side comes to Cinemax.
Pissing on America? Straight from the horse's mouth.
I think he thinks he 'pissed off' the Libs by showing a conservative family doing great things for a black kid who had virtually no future until they showed him how far hard work and determination might take him. Now, he's a multi-millionaire NFL lineman.
so the libs dont have a defense for acorn and America's rejection of obozo
its the LIBERAL HYPOCRISY leading the way
Well, Reagan first..
It'll never happen but that's okay….I never have stopped remembering Jimmay Carter as the worst Prez in my lifetime….Well, until present day anyway!
While the libs get a cheap laugh from a line in a movie we line up powerful people running for office like Allen West in Florida's 22 Congressional District:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP2p91dvm6M
Check out this true American you may remember his a piece of his life.
While serving in Taji, Iraq on August 20, 2003 as commander of the 2d Battalion 20th Field Artillery, 4th Infantry Division, Lieutenant Colonel West was in charge of the interrogation of an Iraqi police officer who was suspected of having information about planned attacks on American forces. According to the Iraqi police officer, Yehiya Kadoori Hamoodi claimed that during the interrogation, soldiers under West's supervision assaulted him attempting to get him to talk.
The police officer insisted that he did not know anything about planned attacks and was loyal to the United States Army. However, when the detainee didn't talk, Lieutenant Colonel West fired his 9mm pistol close to the man's head and at this point, the man, according to some mainstream media such as CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/12/12/sprj.nirq.west.r... gave information about a planned ambush, resulting in its being thwarted. According to West, there were no further ambushes on U.S. forces in Taji until he was relieved of command on October 4, 2003. From Wikipedia
I think you're right; it's almost 2010 – who wants to pay top dollar to see a 2008 movie today?
do to America's increasing rejection of obozo – the price of joining is going down, so holding the koolaide jug is enough for the hate Americans of obozo
Gee – do you think anyone in H'wood has considered the possibility there might be a connection between (shhh! shhh!) the technology that allows downloading of movies illegally without paying and with people getting fed up with paying hard-earned money only to get insulted by morons? You think?
he pissed the liberals for even addressing the issue for the racists
as obozo proves – in obamaland – the conservatives/repubs/racists dont deserve any consideration or attention
"‘Blind Side’ Director ‘Regrets’ Bush-Bashing Joke"
Alternate Headline: "H'Wood Director Angry With Himself After Being Exposed As A Two-Faced Phony By Smart People"
This belongs in the minor pantheon of left-wing demon bashing and there are bigger demons that need it.. JMHO..
1) Obumblercare (relentlessly needs bashing)
2) Jihadicare (relentlessly needs bashing)
3) Mediacare (relentlessly needs exposing)
You gotta chip in the big game now kid, use it.
Hollywood does this all the time, it's a forumual, find a decent story, then screw it up, it can be a film or tv, does not matter one bit
Good story – insert lesbian scene
Good story – insert political agena
Good story – insert random grossness
My wife and I occasionally get interested in some series, very occassionaly, yet somewhere along the way, with no reason whatsoever they insert something that makes us go WTF? (Well I do, not my wife) and as quickly as that the show starts going down hill until we lose interest.
It's like they are allergic to sucess.
I have been enjoying my decoder ring for several years now. I think Texas was the only place you could pick one up at the time.
Now that I understand that we are fighting a Marxist overthrow of our country, I no longer do anything to support the Marxist overthrow of our country, so I sadly cannot attend any more movies which engage in political bashing. I was very disappointed to hear about the Bush "joke."
I am personally trying to be the kind of person who makes our country stronger and better and not weaker. It is hard, since I've been indoctrinated by the Left for so long.
I am hoping that someone creates a website which lists movies and television programs which contain anti-American sentiment, or pro-American sentiment, so that I can make my viewing decisions easier. Someone PLEASE do this
It is so sad, that there are almost no TV shows that I can watch. "Bonanza" reruns are the safest fare I can find, but there are only so many of those available. They are excellent though!
John Lee Hancock:
After completing the movie and playing it for an audience I realized it was, for some, more of a laugh, and a cheap one to boot. I do regret not coming up with something more clever.
Decoder ring:
My friends and I still think it's funny, but as I've been called on it by a few angry conservatives, I'll close the door after the horse is out of the barn by giving a "heartfelt" apology to those who might have been offended…
I just don't go see any movies anymore. Even when I know people involved in making them. There always seems to be a slap at me and mine, so I figure I'll like everyone a lot more if I don't spend any money on it.
But, as I said before, it's gone beyond politics to bigotry at this point. As a democrat what they hate about Republicans and they will not be able to give you one specific. They'll only throw out some vague talking points that don't have one bit of evidence as validation. It's disgusting.
I wouldn't be seeing this movie anyway because it's a product of the Hollywood machine, regardless of it's conservative foundation. Conservative indies are more likely to see my entertainment dollars than Universal, et al.
"But it wouldn’t be a movie of mine if I didn’t somehow figure out a way to piss off both conservatives and liberals."
So lemme see—
Hancock pisses off conservatives by inserting a gratuitous snarky Bush-bashing moment for no apparent reason.
I guess that he's pissing off the liberals by portraying conservative Christians as caring people who embrace a homeless black youth into their family and help him to triumph over the odds.
He probably had to add the Bush-bashing scene to keep his creds with the glitterati.
Too little, too late, and b.s. besides. This movie can rot in hell for all I care, I have no intention to spend a nickel on it.
Question:
If this story occured today, would this social worker point to a picture of Obama?
Answer:
Hell no!
It's not how many glasses of kool-aid you need but the level of arsenic in each glass.
I dunno, I'm a big Dandy fan and she looks pretty hot for an "old babe"!
Austinites and temporarily displaced Austinites defend our Sandy B.!
I *avert* my eyes from the right side of the photo!
that's fer sure…
Those who straddle the fence spend the evening picking splinters from their privates.
It would be interesting to see the breakdown by region of ticket sales for "Blind Side". My guess would be a higher percentage of sales will come from the rural areas, due to the types of main characters involved, which makes the gratuitous swipe even more puzzling, because a shot at Bush isn't likely to make many of the urban sophisticates suddenly decide to see the movie ("New Moon" being sold out through the midnight show will probably push more ticket sales towards "Blind Side" in Blue State urban areas than a two-second swipe at Bush, which is likely to cost the movie money in Red State areas, due to the values and political gulf the target audience already sees between it and Hollywood).
Exactly what the previously hilarious "Big Bang Theory" is doing by introducing a sex interest that's patently ridiculous. We'll give it this season, but if they don't wise up, it'll be the last.
When high school boys stop quoting Monty Python with hideously done British accents.
There has never been a bash against a leftie in any film I've ever seen, although I've seen a gratuitous slam against Gingrich (not that I support him) and Bullock's last film had an off-the-wall shot against Cheney. Of course, the Julia Child film had a snark about McCarthy. We won't see any more of Bullock's films on the big screen or on TV — ditto Streep.
I watched the trailer and I didn't even notice it. I had to read the write up to see what the fuss was.
And when I did learn what it was, I didn't think of it as a shot at Bush, but rather a shot at inept federal bureaucracy.
In my own amateur comic opinion, the line is crossed from humor into politics when a joke depends upon a particular individual for the punch line, rather than the humor itself. In other words, is the still joke funny if you swap out one political persuasion for the other?
In this case, I think the joke would be as funny (which ain't much) if it were Clinton or Carter or any other incompetent democratic president. It would be much more funny with a picture of Gorbachev.
As long as I'm on the subject, let me clarify. A couple of years Jon Stewart was making a joke about how Bush was the most traveled president in history. The punch line was, maybe he was just grossed out at having to sleep in the same his parent's did it in.
Funny. And the joke would probably have been just as funny a couple of hundred years ago if the subject was John Quincy Adams.
The humor does not need the crutch of a particular person or party.
Agreed.
Just read the L.A. Weekly review of the movie.
No mention of the Bush-jab, but they reviewer skewers the movie for practicing "The worst kind of racism", i.e., suggesting that the po' black boy had to turn to white folk to help him out.
It's a bogus charge on many levels, but it shows that Hancock is accurate in his assessment that the movie pisses off liberals.
Why are they pissed off? The movie is an accurate representation of events depicted in Michael Lewis' book. To my knowledge, these facts have never been disputed until they were repackaged as a feel-good movie. As I mention in my rather lame review, only some of the people who have a problem with the Tuohys are admitted racists. Let's face it, statists have a certain distaste for Christian love, especially when it's shown through acts of charity. This disdain exposes their own latent racism. Would the L.A. Weekly call this movie racist if it depicted Oher surviving on state sanctioned welfare?
Could be they're more concerned with the headlines of a big opening weekend.
Never.
That would require brain power to think up something new.
The Bush presidency was unique in several ways, especially with the dark cloud of illegitimacy caused by the tainted election of 2000. His opponent had more popular votes, there was that suspicious voter purge by Katherine Harris, the embarrassing involvement of Fox News on election night, and the eventual intervention by the US Supreme Court. It was something none of us had ever seen in our lifetimes, and a large number of Americans felt bitterness over the concept that our new Commander in Chief was not a legitimately elected President. We had a justifiable resentment that our nation’s integrity was compromised. Bush had that monkey on his back during his entire tenure.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
1:13pm11/24
And here I was thinking about paying money to watch this movie. Now, I'd rather spend it on "The Road." I hope there are no "Bush bashing" jokes there.
Yep, In order to keep being invited to the "Good Parties" they have to get a dig in somewhere. After all, everyone knows that Bush is the Devil in the flesh, Right?
LOL
I see now I was foolish to hope… thanks for pointing that out to me
so he "pissed off" both sides ? I get how he did conservatives but libtards could only be 0PO'd cuz it wasn't harsh enough.
To those who seem puzzled about a gratuitous slam at the target audience don't seem to get it. Of course he "regrets" it. Regretting it, is easy, just words, and has the benefit of trivializing his part thus trivializing adverse reaction to it. He doesn't regret it, he admits it was intentional. Why did he do it? 1) it's what libtards do. 2) it's a slight, a little thing, a seed, one of millions over the decades. It's for the cause.
"
It's the media stupid!"
Bring out yer dead! Clang!
"Good story – insert lesbian scene"
they did that to Heroes a few weeks back.
By having a black man become a successful and productive member of society.
I have heard good things about Sandra from folks in the community–that she treats the "little people" with decency and respect.
Reading me made me think of where I have been seeing lots of Bush/Republican/conservative bashing lately – the mystery novels I like to read. I can't tell you how many books I have stopped reading or reluctantly completed because the villains are always Republicans or conservatives and nastly remarks, descriptions, and criticisms are always aimed at them. I wouldn't mind if the barbs were also aimed at liberals/Democrats but that is rarely the case. Are 90% of all authors dippy liberals?
Ya, she has a bistro in the Westlake area near her house there and spends some time there and is reportedly very cool and very nice with the folks.
Years ago she was standing on the floors at a gig a guy she was dating was playing, not up in the chickencoop with the hangers on and girlfriends…jeans and a tee, and still stunning in person.
No body bothered her either, Austinites are generally good about leaving people be, respecting their privacy or personal space, as in this case.
with the love and guidance of an er, "WHITE" family – how DARE them not be racists!
"We are the Knights who say… NI."
"I *warned* you, but did you listen to me? Oh, no, you *knew*, didn't you? Oh, it's just a harmless little *bunny*, isn't it?"
Reminds me of when celebrities apologize "if I have offended anyone" rather than apologizing for what they actually did.
But it wouldn’t be a movie of mine if I didn’t somehow figure out a way to piss off both conservatives and liberals.”
The problem with modern Hollywood in a nutshell, folks.
John Ford: "Now listen Duke…you gotta say that line. We've already done the Roosevelt cripple joke so now you're supposed to come back with your MacArthur "mission accomplished" line, remember?"
Us, too! Really annoying.
Four years? Sorry, you're wrong. They're already making movies (loosely termed "documentaries") about the greatness of the One. See any time on an HBO channel for "By the People: The Election of Barak Obama." The title says it all.
the sinner,
Patrick
Silly, you can't "earn" the ring. It must be taken from someone else who earned it and then given to you.
Yipster
Despite this one joke I think the movie does a great job at showing conservatives in good light. The story is reqally compelling. Leann Tuomay sounds like a great lady. The line she tells the thug who threatened Michael Oher (sp) her adopted son about being a gun toting member of the NRA when he makes fun of her having a "Saturday Night Special". "Yes and it shoots just as well every other day of the week too" was great. Someone should tell her to run for office. .What she did was so self sacrificing that there is no way the libs can demean it. It is a good movie.
The picture says it all: the Obama voters' deepest dreams. The giant powerful black man, SIMPLE, WRONGED, HURT, but a little short on gray matter, is helped to find his revenge by a caring diminutive white woman who has seen past her country club republican upbringing… This movie has it all if you voted for Obama. Can you IMAGINE if they get MARRIED! Tender, caring, heartwarming…
Too late as far as I'm concerned. I already scratched it off my list of movies to see and I'm encouraging everyone I know to do the same. If and when it shows up on my cable service, I may watch it, but I'm certainly not going to knowingly subsidize any more gratuitous insults from the snarks on the left coast.
Uh…you realize that if it's on your cable service, your fees paid for it, whether you watch it or not, right?
I agree. I was gonna see it with my daughter, but I won't now. I am done with listening to Bush bashing. For 8 years it was everywhere and couldn't be avoided….I will not pay to see it now. God bless W.
Can we all recognize we're not a majority rural country anymore? More Americans live in cities than not, so rural grosses will always be lower. Plus, the film is a runaway hit across all demos. They turned a profit opening weekend. Even my evil lib friends found the film extremely heartwarming, patronizing stereotypes aside, just as a "Bush Bash" clearly didn't keep conservatives from going. They're gonna keep making buckets o' cash from all of red, blue & purple America.
I was going to take the family to it, but not now nor that dog Robin Williams is in. If America boycoted Hollywood for 6 months they'd get the idea
“I hope we conservatives don't get as thin skinned as the liberals"
I don't think we are, I for one saw "The day the earth stood still" on TV yesterday and rolled in the floor laughing. I didn't think they made it as a comedy, but for me it was the funniest movie I've seen in years.
Texas may be A standing republic once again — make room — a lot of us are coming home!
"See you in hell, Hollywood"
I for one hope you don't go there.
Attention Hollywood Libtards — you make movies to entertain, the cash register rings. . .you dress political agendas as character development, the cash register remains silent — your choice!
Any sitcom – insert woman cursing in first five minutes
Quite a long time ago but they weaned me and I've never looked back.
Guys, don't judge this movie by a joke that lasts, what, five seconds? "The Blind Side" is an excellent movie and all of you are jumping to conclusions. You won't even remember the joke five minutes later. It's not even a shot at Bush so much as it is at government bureaucracy. The worker was blaming Bush for her own laziness…and that's it.
I am a hard-line right winger conservative, and I give this movie two thumbs up, five stars out of five, and I'm not going to knock it because of two seconds of absolutely NOTHING!
It's hard to get too upset about libtards taking potshots at Bush when for 8 years, he couldn't be bothered to respond to any such smears himself.
AGAIN……………
Show Hollywierd how you really feel…………
VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS…………
You don't like the ANTI-AMERICAN crap that they're making………
BOYCOTT ALL THEIR MOVIES……….
EVERY STINKING ONE OF THEM………..
They'll get the message.
Boy, you sure hit the nail on the head! That is EXACTLY what they do!
I don't know if you are actually serious about that, but you would not BELIEVE the number of Texans who are talking about it, and ARE serious!
Wow! I admire your determination! I think it would be hard to categorize specific tv shows until after each episode had aired. Even "Glee" found the need to put offensive material in recently. Naturally, the bad, alcohol-swilling Christian father was a Glenn Beck fan…and kicked his pregnant unwed daughter out of the house.
You know, I liked that show. (Notice the past tense there…)
There are websites who do what you're looking for with films, by the way.
"I hope we conservatives don't get as thin skinned as the liberals."
…
…Is this your first time here?
"Good story – insert lesbian scene"
WHEN exactly did that not turn out to be a good idea? There are THREE things that always work, that tends to be one of them…
"I am hoping that someone creates a website which lists movies and television programs which contain anti-American sentiment, or pro-American sentiment, so that I can make my viewing decisions easier. Someone PLEASE do this
"
Nothing says "rugged individualist" like hoping someone comes along to do your thinking for you
And in FlashForward. Heroes has some decent things going on this season, but the college bit threatens to sink the whole thing. And, Claire's girlfriend is just hard to look at. I don't like to say it, but she is just plain ug–okay, I won't say it.
Stargate Universe is getting creepy. The whole "having sex in someone else's body" thing (and for those who don't watch the show saying, "Isn't that how it normally works?" it's different here, okay?) is getting more and more disturbing. What if the woman she switched with wasn't a lesbian? Would you like to return to your body and wonder, "Man, why is my butt so sore?" I sure wouldn't. I understand that the gay community just adored last week's episode, but they are pissed because an upcoming episode features the lesbian's body being used to have sex with a man! But, it's okay the other way around? Personally, don't use my body to have sex with *anybody*. Not your wife, not your girlfriend, not your dog, and certainly not your boyfriend.
The aforementioned Heroes, FlashForward and Stargate Universe. It's no fun when they're really lesbians and aren't just doing it to turn on some guy. Seeing the woman in FlashForward seeing herself giving birth after a wild night with a turkey baster is not exactly late night Cinemax.
Are you kidding? That picture on the post office wall joke? The one where the girl asks who's in charge and the worker points at Bush? That's what you're so up in arms about? That's nothing!! George W. Bush, Worst President in history, BAR NONE, was a joke before, during and will be forever a joke. He was a practical joke gone awry on America as president, too. Get real. If anything, and almost certainly, Bush was not properly and appropriately roasted throughout his terms as being incompetent, ineffective, illiterate and all around a fool.
Point taken. But, if I want political material, I'll go to the OpEd pages, not spend my hard-earned jing on what I expect to be pure entertainment. Gratuitous material like that jars my otherwise smooth escape from reality and I feel put upon or duped.
Movies like this need to join the rating system with something like "P-L" or "P-R" noting that it contains political material that derives from the left or right.
"24" is a great example also. It was one of the last TV programs I cared to watch and last year near the end of the season Jack Bauer believes he's dying and who does he call in? A Muslim cleric! That was the tipping point for me.
My dad hated Ronald Reagan and passed it on to my sister. When I asked her to give me a specific reason why she disliked Reagan so much, her answer was, "He wants to blow up the world!"
That's about the depth of their thinking when it comes to discussing politics.
I was so disappointed to see the clip Bullock and the show chose to run. A negative for the movie, show, and both actors. I'll look for something else on the dial or online before watching his show again because his continued bashing of half of America is lame from someone who wanted to become a citizen to vote for Obama. So tolerant.
And she uses sugarcane takeout products, not styrafoam. oooooo Plus, she said the Bush bashing line without nary a word it seems despite knowing it wasn't in the book. She is a true Hollywood pioneer! Live among the unwashed and lead by example. You can remake them better than their G-d and guns.
P.S. Don't worry about your husband being on Celebrity Apprentice and you not once offering to help or donate to any charity. Viva separate but equal marriages.
I couldn't believe how far off from what I though the show was, and what my family was enjoying, when Gilbert was in satin sheets. Then, Sheldon couldn't tolerate his own family because of their belief in G-d? The show is treading water.
It was so wrong! You get an Oscar or Emmy for not letting the audience see you act, but series TV is not impressed with itself unless they make the audience see the manipulation. Just because we care that you are evil and we can!
Glee lost me there too. I was going to pickup the CD for stocking stuffer too. Not now.
I can understand her wanting a cheat sheet to save time. You want to have a Must See TV experience with your family, but more often than not halfway through a show or series you realize it wasn't such a good choice. Short cuts are what the internet is all about. No harm in asking.
This is the worst kind of ambush on half of America, and happens so often too. When an author tells me I am evil, I run away and tell others to do the same.
I think the director means that the entire movie, with its true story of how a conservative Christian family took a young black child off the streets, gave him a home, a family, an education and a second chance at a successful life, would be offensive to liberals, so they had to throw them a bone by putting in the stupid (and unfunny) Bush-bash.
This is probably also why they have that scene in ALL of the trailers and publicity interviews for the movie. I mean, you can't expect liberals to want to go the the "feel-good" movie of the year if it doesn't have any sex or violence and instead has an uplifting message about Christian charity!
I spent a lot of years of my life in Texas and understand the independent spirit that lives on in that state. . .my family still lives there and I am contemplating a move home to live in a state that recognizes the rights of the individual.
Two other elements of the movie catered to the politically correct elements of Hollywood: first, you see a woman taking spiritual leadership in the home. For instance, in the Thanksgiving scene, the moterh offered the prayer at the table. Secondly, the prayer was not offered in Jesus' name. I have researched the church where the Tuohys attend and am sure that the movie was not a correct reflection of what the Tuohys believe or have been taught. I am sure that many who read this will scratch their heads in wonder over what I am writing about. But that is nothing but further proof of how the public has no idea what Christian and Biblical family life is supposed to look like.
Out of nowhere "In Plain Sight" inserted its political agenda–had to have the main character bash home schooling. Next move: delete from DVR schedule. Never watched another episode.
"Cancel Series" is one of the options on my FiOS DVR. I love the very language. Cancel series. I become a network programmer.
Had already lost interest in "Heroes."
Seems like I remember a time when jokes were just funny.
Totally agree. 24 is just another liberal agenda now. Afraid to go after the actual enemy that has actually declared war on the US and has actually attacked and killed Americans on American soil while yelling "Alahu Akbar!"
To Hollywood, it's always an American corporation that's the true bad guy. Never Islam.
Hello,
First off if that women that Sandra Bullock was playing was a real Christian she would have not put up with the garbage hurled at the direction of the President. Did you know that any employee saying bad things about the President, or any other gov. offical can be fired at any time. They are to keep there opinions to themselves at all times, and away from the work place.
Larry D. Crumbley
Yep, that might help them hype their next project.
I am a conservative. I saw the movie yesterday and really enjoyed it… but the "joke" was clearly a cheap shot at President Bush, and no amount of Monday morning quarterbacking by the filmmaker that he was blindsided by the reaction to this lame moment of humor can change this fact. Truth.
No shot at Bush is 'cheap.' He cost this nation way too much.
What, go after their ideological kin?
I spent most of 3 years there in the mid-70's (construction, shrimp boats) and those were the best 3 years of my life, notwithstanding I'm not an unhappy soul. Free Republic!
South Park. Though if you can't abide swear words or follow fast dialog (sometimes only decipherable by the responses) it won't do. Although they occasionally poke fun at religion, it is never mean, never without acknowledgment that there is another side – and they go after the libs constantly, since they are such a huge, side-of-a-barn-size target. Loved Team America, even with its over-the-top puppet sex scene. Durka, durka, anyone?
Got yourself an MBA there, do you BillAdkins?
Not only that, but he hardly ever could be bothered to play a game of golf, compared with…well, you know who…
Guess he was trying to keep this country safe (and succeeding admirably),
He had his faults. But he wasn't naive enough to think that responding to the "smears" would do any good.
Sometimes it takes a BIG wakeup call! We have lost a lot of our freedoms in this country INCREMENTALLY!
I am glad to hear that "We The People" are awakening and beginning to take their stands.
Sometimes it takes a BIG wakeup call in order to be heard at all.
We have lost a lot of our freedoms in this country INCREMENTALLY!
I am glad to hear that "We The People" are awakening and beginning to take their stands.
The humorous thing about it is – they would be the first ones stoned or hanged.
Wow! Wish my DVR had that option!
Naah – just a JD – how about you?
Well, BillAdkins, let's just say I'm an over-educated rancher, and leave it at that, because my question was broached due to your reference to Bush as "illiterate."
I've heard that one too many times from the Left. The man does have an MBA, and no matter who your mama and daddy are, Ivy League schools don't just pass those out like chewing gum.
And I believe we all had the privilege of knowing Bush's grades while he got that degree. A favor we have not enjoyed with our current President.
And we certainly know the grade Bush received as president – that would be an fat 'F' – stands for flop, farce, fraud, failure, fiasco and fuckup.

I've never been tempted to leave the Great State of Texas. Why would I? Anything I want to do, I can do right here in Texas.
We have 7 ecosystems in Texas. You could live in one of the largest cities in America; “where everybody knows your name;” or you could live in absolute isolation. You could work in just about any career. You could even be a rancher.
Dang! Now I’ve probably attracted even more people to move here! We’d love to have you come, but, by all that is right and holy, if you move here, don’t try to turn Texas into where you came from! If it is so great, then do us all a favor, and stay put! I actually read a post in the Austin paper last week where someone was touting how much better employment benefits were in California! And I’d swear, half of California moved here in the last 5 years.
Even with our independent spirits, there are areas of the state that are more liberal, and others that are more conservative. But, I’d venture to say that natives, by and large, are more conservative by far.
Sorry to say, BillAdkins, you have just revealed enough of your moral character, by your foul language, to invalidate anything else you could have to say to me. Enjoy the rest of your turkey, Turkey!
This is funny – one poster here makes fun of me for not using the F word, another gets indignant about it.
I accept your surrender.
Oh, and also in true lib fashion, you did not address the issue, because you would lose on the issue.
Gobble…gobble.
My surrender was never offered. Address the issue, troll.
Thanks FeFe. A cheat sheet is exactly what I need. After I've spent the money for the movie, is not when I enjoy finding out that I am being insulted. I would much rather spend my money on a movie that supports my preferred way of life (which shockingly MovieBob, does not include Marxist Communism.)
Rugged individualists do not enjoy wasting time on Marxist propaganda. It just doesn't sit well
Good one!
It's a shame that “Blind Side” director John Lee Hancock made his leftwing attack on George Bush; it dates an otherwise potentially timeless film, and sullies it with cheap Alinsky politics. I will not go see "Blind Side" although I did once want to – it looked different and interesting. The movie is obviously insincere.
“Blind Side” director John Lee Hancock can shove the movie up his own George Bush as he joins Sean Penn in the libtard dustbin / DVD landfill.
My wife and I were looking forward to seeing this movie, now we wont. We are just plain tired of Hollywood and all their crap.
You will be waiting a long time.In England,Tony Blair and Gordon Brown`s supporters blame Margaret Thatcher for everything, even their own mistakes that they have made for the past 12 years, despite the fact that she has not been in office for the past 20 years.Even Gordon Brown blames Thatcher for the 800 billion pound deficit that he has this year and the enormous debt that multiplied by more than 7 times the level it was when he took office as the Chancellor(Treasury secretary in England).Everything is Thatcher, this,Thatcher that. This is despite the fact that she made harsh decisions that saved the economy there when it was on the brink of collapse, she brought prosperity back. Now Tony and Gordon have destroyed that, the top tax rate will be 51% next year and it`s all Thatcher`s fault!Don`t hold your breath waiting for them to stop,it will never happen,LOL
I disliked the scene in the movie and it dropped the movie down a notch for me. But frankly, there was an anti-Republican tenor all throughout (not necessarily anti-Conservative) that I thought was gratuitous. Be aware, based on the movie, Leigh Anne's family must be the only Republican family in Memphis that isn't racist.
It's worth noting though, I've never met a 'proud Republican.' I've only met proud Conservatives who happen to be Republican. So perhaps I don't know enough non-Conservative Republicans to judge if they really are all racist like in the movie.
Blind Side was a movie I thought about seeing. I guess not now. Screw holly wood and all who work there.
I agree, Phil, it's hardly a bash at GWB. He just happened to be president when Mrs. Touhy walked got Gridlock'd. The joke about having a black son before meeting their first Democrat was a good one, too. You know what they say about you if you can't take a joke…
"The director all but admits the joke’s falling flat with audiences, so what was different about his test audience?"
To be fair, he said: "After completing the movie and playing it for an audience I realized it was, for some, more of a laugh, and a cheap one to boot." He doesn´t say how he realized it. Maybe an uncle of his was peeved. I guess it is possible that he didn´t give it that much thought and neither did test audiences.
But it is certainly not hard to believe that someone liked this scene too much to have it removed.
Let´s be real. Many people will not care much for a gratuitous slap at Bush, but (unlike us) most of them don´t obsess over it. They have forgotten it by the time the credits roll. And that´s true of red states and blue states. This isn´t an anti-American movie, so word of mouth will not be determined by that one scene.
I gave up on 24 a long time ago, I think when the President of the US had a fit when Jack tricked a terrorist into thinking he would kill his family unless he talked, and the terrorist spilled the beans of course, the President of course was furious.
In that same series it was ok to torture a US citizen that was part of the presidents staff to get info, how you merge those two philosophies is beyond me, but then so is progressive theology.
Pretty much sums up the direction of the whole series now, Americans can be stomped on, everyone else is off limits.
I guess in a way it's art reflecting reality
If you mean find something else to watch then I guess it is a good idea, are you a consultant to Hollywood?
Really I suppose teenage boys might find it titillating, but adults tend to pass on these political insertions, and that's exactly what the lesbian scenes are, plot less political insertions to appease political correctness.
Actually, I'm more sith than goa'uld (we have cookies on the dark side), but then I don't disagree with you.
We have been thinking about such a move. If it comes down to leaving, it will either be Texas or Alaska (we tend to like the cold).
Darkwolf, we'd love to have you. But, I can clearly advise: If you like the cold, learn to love the Panhandle-South Plains area. Lubbock, for instance, gets the changing of the seasons, and can, on occasion, have 30 days below freezing. Snowed there the last couple of nights. It can also get above 107-108 in the summer, but it's a dry heat, and not as bad as the same temp in, say, Dallas, or the Hill Country.
On the other hand, since you're an engineer, you might also fit really well in the Austin, Dallas, or Houston areas. Austin might see a snowflake every few years, but it's an event when it falls. Dallas gets more snow and ice, but if you're lookin' for cold in Houston, take the scenic route to another part of the state.
True story: when Spurs' player, Tim Duncan, first arrived in San Antonio in late spring or early summer, he stepped off the plane and said, "This is as hot as it gets here, right?" Everybody on the tarmac nearly cracked up.
" Everybody on the tarmac nearly cracked up. "
Count me in on that laugh. Spent half a summer doing bootcamp at Lackland AFB and the rest of it up in Witchita Falls. I must have lost ten pounds in 3 months. *lol*
"Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelled of elderberries!"
Well, then, Darkwolf, come on down…or across, whatever the case may be.
I just might take ya up on that! Gearing up for our first snowfall of the year here in MI.
Well, believe it or not, WE are going to have snow and a hard freeze tomorrow, too! Amazing for this part of Texas! It is supposed to drop down around 22-24 degrees, and people were packing the grocery stores and gas stations today making sure they had ample provisions. I'm not kidding you. Whenever it gets much below freezing (especially with precipitation) around here, people go into panic mode. You will see parkas with hoods when the temp drops into the lower 50s. It is hilarious if you've ever lived where it really does get very cold. However, since it doesn't often happen that we get lots of ice and snow, we don't have as much of the road-clearing equipment that colder climes take for granted. Generally, if ice is in the forecast, schools are cancelled, etc. Our roses and other flowers were loaded with gorgeous blooms this afternoon. Guess it's hasta la vista for them til next spring!
Freezing is good for killin Skeeters.
Got about 14 inches up to when I left for work this morning and it's still falling. Looks like our first snow of the year's gonna be an in your face storm. But then we're use to that up here *lol*
Dang, I saw on the news you guys are in for a nasty one too. good luck with that. At least up here we're set up to deal with it. I'm sure the kids will be getting a big kick out of it though. We can blame all the snow and cold on Global Warming of course.
The joke was utterly unecessary.
