‘Green Zone’ Trailer: Matt Damon Goes to Iraq to Fight…Americans?

Nobody liked this movie when it was called “Body of Lies.”
This is the most revealing trailer yet and thankfully we’re given a heads up as to what the story might really be about. Hollywood will look for cover with the excuse that “Green Zone” is based on a true story, but we all know which “true stories” Leftist Hollywood cherry picks in order to fulfill the demands of an anti-American narrative. For example, the true story of 100,000-plus Americans risking their lives to liberate and protect from terrorists people they’ve never met is one “true story” we’ll see in hell first.
Everything you’d expect from director Paul Greengrass and Damon is here, including that goddamn shaky-cam (it’s not saying the Lord’s name in vain if you mean it). Damon’s character is the protagonist and he’s there to do good but it’s not the terrorists who are the antagonists getting in his way … no, it’s The United States of America personified by the Greg Kinnear character.
Look fast for my favorite part of the trailer at the 1:42 mark after Kinnear appears to order Damon’s assassination. When Kinnear’s confronted in the next scene suddenly he’s sporting that old “liberal tell” identifying the bad guys in leftist films: the lapel flag!
In the comments, Hollywood’s few remaining water-carriers should please explain why an industry we’re told is more interested in making profits than making political points would green-light the umpteenth anti-Iraq movie after all umpteen that came before flopped miserably.
SIDE NOTE: Once again I want to make clear that this post violates the rule which only allows Leftist critics and film writers to speculate about an upcoming film before seeing it. I knew that before putting fingers to keyboard and am fully braced for the consequences.

I don't necessarily agree. I've always thought "vain" in that context was in reference to pride and conceitedness as opposed to futility. As in, one should not invoke the name of the lord to appease their pride.
The overseas money is what Hollywood seems to be banking on. I suppose that they're too altruistic to care if it makes any money domestically.
We've gone down so far from "The Sands of Iwo Jima", "They Were Expendable", "The Fighting SeeBees", etc. and other movies that actually SUPPORTED the USA during war.

Tip for Hollwood #17: don't use cinematographic techniques that will give the audience migraines. This includes, but is not limited to, unnecessary strobe lights (and most plot-relevant strobing, as well), shaky-cam, constant bass in the audio…
All the evidence one needs to prove that Hollywood is dead is the fact that this Matt Damon creature is considered a movie star.

Saw the trailer the other day, and wondered as it started whether it would play to the stereotype of a Matt Damon anti-American movie. Took about 15 seconds to answer that question with a big "YEP." And stereotype boilerplate it is, with a chuckle coming when someone (Kinnear?) utters in a menacing manner "You don't know who you're messing with!" Lemme guess – the CIA?… I'm guessing they chase him around Iraq for about 90 minutes, stuff blows up and he barely escapes, kills around a dozen potential assassins (including one who NEVER misses, until now) and finally he gets the goods on the CIA boss and exposes him (NY Times?) and/or kills him.
The government is evil and corrupt so lets give them control of health care and more taxes for the environment. Yeah, right.

I'm going to skip "Green Zone" no big loss, but I was wondering something OT, sorry.
I haven't seen the movie, it flew under the radar for me, so I have no opinion, but what is wrong with "Body of Lies"? This is the second thread today that busted on it a bit. From my understanding, it's about CIA agents pursuing terrorists and butting heads on methodology. But both characters want to capture the terrorists. The protagonists are pro-American CIA agents, the antagonist is a terrorist, at least from what I understand. I generally like Ridley Scott, so this is still a catch on DVD movie since I didn't see it in the theater, but I was wondering what the deal is. Am I missing something here about the storyline? Is there a blame America first storyline? Just wondering.
I could think of about 6 different things that Jason Bourne could do in Iraq. How about o I don't know gathering Intel about the 1600 headless people the found in Fallujah? You know maybe do a little recon on that one. Do you think this guy smoke's a lot of pot? He talks like a lot of stoners I know.

No! This movie is actually quite brilliant! After Damon kills Kinnear and exposes all, he returned to America and a wonderful life. Then, a year later, the "freedom fighters" he saves turn out to be terrorists after all! They blow up New York city, where his wife, the love interest from the first film, and his daughter, just happen to be visiting. In a fit of angst and remorse, Matt Damon's character hangs himself!

She was rep by william morris. He grads Harvard and he told his stepmom he wanted to be an actor. She got him a Wm Morris agent and bingo he is in Mystic pizza with under 5 lines just to see if he looked good on camera and didn't screw up lines. I had two pals that worked on that film. Bem comes from nothing, he did commercials in the Boston area and Matt did a few also and that is how I think he met Ben. He didn't come from a middle class neighborhood. He lived in the same area where that working class millionaire Tip O'Neil lived. That whole area when I live in Boston was all rich Irish old money and their kids were all full of shit punks.

I jus finished the Ronald and Alis Radosh excelent book "Red Star over Hollywood". It gives historic context to much of the moronics we see in Hollywood today.
The current crop of morons, David Geffen, Sean Penn, Matt Damon, all have their not too distant mentors. They all bask in a smug selr reighteousness, thinking they are smarter and better than their unenlightened Americam bretheren (the ones whose blood is sacrificed to keep them living in high style). Unlike many of the Hollywood luminaries of WWll, none of these effete cowards would ever grow a pair of balls and actually risk anything for this country. Body of Lies at least deserves credit for its opening. Russell Crowe's voiceover about how Muslims seek to overturn America and institute sharia law on a new caliphate.
What other film had the guts to say that? That opening set the tone for a film that — to me — mostly showed how dirty it can get fighting the enemies of civilization.

I'll check out you movie. I'm a Vietnam Vet 68-70 and a Big Flynn fan sounds tailor made. The closes I every got to him was years ago I did a reading of a play with one of his daughters here in NYC . I don't remember which one, her name, I just don't remember. Nice enough kid though. She was thrilled and impressed to be reading with NY actors and I was thrilled to be reading with Captain Peter Bloods daughter. Crazy Business. O.K. Pal Later.

I'm at the knee jerk stage with these people. When the usual suspects show up in the credits for a movie, be they directors, actors, or writers, I file the movie away in my "Don't plan to see" pigeon hole.

Could you imagine the snit these lefties would have if someone re-released (or worse, made a remake of) Yankee Doodle Dandy? Heck I'd be willing to pitch in to help cover the costs of filming it. Sometimes the more complicated the trailer is, the more it indicates a dog. This one sort of reminds me of a made-for TV 'movie' and not a very good one. But I'm sick of the one note anti-American films stars put out to give meaning to their lives. Daman is getting close to Sean Penn in my movie selections, in which I refuse to buy Penn flicks. I think I already have Damon's best stuff anyway. He showed promise for a while there.
If I wanted to see a pile of shit I would throw five or six hunks of raw hamburger out in the yard and leave my dog out if his pen all night..

However, I wonder how well this film will do in the box office. To a man, the trailer goes to great lengths to resurrect the vibe of the Bourne films. It may as well be Bourne 4. By my way of thinking the Bourne franchise was financially lucrative. I think this movie, unlike the other anti-Iraq war films, is being sold as much as an action thriller with Bourne. For that reason I'd think most kiddies would flock to see it. I enjoyed the Bourne movies, but I doubt I'll be interested in paying to see this (It's easier and easier for me to completely avoid Hollywood films).
So I think this film should do reasonably well at the Box Office, considering there isn't much out there (except that teen Vampire flick).
Having said all of this, I wonder if this film might do average. This movie seems two years late. I don't think it'll do as poorly as its predecessors, but I think Damon's cache will give it some steam. I wonder to what extent people in the U.S. might be fatigued with the anti-Iraq sentiment and don't want to hear about it — even from Matt Damon?

Matt Damon is normal Army Joe in the movie. For sake of argument let's promote him to Captain to make the liberal meme in this film more platable. He finds himself in a situation where he has to go against the CIA because they are taking terrorists and doing the Creator knows what with them. (Like maybe waterboarding him I guess- the fiends). So good liberal guy in a suit gets Damon to help him and gives him One Million Dollars to throw around. WTF?

The US Military is the most highly esteemed institution in the country. All these idiots have to do is make a patriotic movie and they will make a ton of dough. It is like free money sitting on the street. I guess peer pressure is overwhelming in Hollywood. How's this? Son of Hollywood Lawyer, elite High School, headed for USC, Harvard, whereever. Unknown to his parents he goes to East L.A. recruiting station and on his 18th birthday enlists in the USMC. He tells his Mom at his Grad Party and she becomes hysterical and ruins the party. His Mom tries to get him to renig on his committment, but his dad secretly respects him. Off to MCRD where his recruiting class incluids Smiley, the gang member son of the beloved family maid Esperanza. Great fish out of water story. Off to Iraq or Afghanistan. Oh well, I sell plumbing, what a the hell do I know.

I might be one of the few who did not think BODY OF LIES was "anti American." I thought it portrayed a great deal of the contrary, unreliable and threatening decision-dilemmas that military intelligence in the Middle East (and elsewhere, similarly) has to contend with.
My first view, I didn't like the film because I distrust Hollywood product in general. On third view, I was far less offended but I doubt few people ever watched that film more than once — which is the problem.
Because on first impression, all the difficulties portrayed are easily mistrusted as "making the US look weak and untrustworthy" but that's the problem the film has, that it lacked any clearly heroic statements about the US and about military intelligence, but focused only on the difficulty and compromises involved.
Also DiCaprio (spelled?) was truly annoying in that film (BODY OF LIES) with his ongoing "aww-right? awwright?!" addons to nearly every single line of dialogue delivered. DiCaprio's annoying presence set the film off way past where many could then accept the film overall.
But I actually now find the story line of that film intriguing. Despite the film's intent, also, at focusing entirely on Russell Crowe's Agency character as being "fat and annoying," … uhh, now I don't like the film again…
And every time I start to enjoy Damon's performances, he goes and appears in a film of the "bad American" kind. I am quickly starting to avoid liking Damon's performances if but for the sole reason that he's making decidedly "bad American" choices in the films he's making, characters he's performing — it can easily be assumed that Damon does, indeed, believe that Americans are bad based upon his creative choices.
Jason Bourne might just as well have declared: "Is this a gun?"
Yeah and he had to go and do it after I had only seen the first two Bourne films. Although, after the second one, I was already getting tired of the "evil" CIA plot.
Although, I will make an exception to watch Matt Damon doing his best work in Team America.

I've developed that attitude about most of Hollywood. I never go to the theater, and rarely watch contemporary movies these days because I'm sick of liberal Hollywood. I wonder of Hollywood will follow the way of the NYTimes…

One big reason Hollywood can't make films where the actual villans are the bad guys ( you know terrorists who blow up innocent people in their own country and others on purpose, as opposed to the American military which does it's level best to avoid hurting innocents) is because they are COWARDS. They know that the military is not going to harm them, but protect their right to defame them, even to the point of giving their lives to do so, while if they make a movie where the terrorists are the bad guys they just might have terrorists blowing them up.
These guys are such cowards they won't even protest the Baptists or Muslims who voted against gay marriage, only the white Christians. They are so frightened of the label RACIST or INTOLERANT in calling out blacks or the violence that might follow from the Muslim extremists that they won't even stand up for their beliefs. Like I said, COWARDS.

I've never seen a Matt Damon movie. None ever looked interesting. I don't get why he's considered sexy. He has beady eyes and kind of a pig nose. He always seemed kind of doughy to me.

Well, you may not watch it, but you'll be putting money in their pockets just by the fact that it's on HBO, or Showtime, or any of the movie channels, and if you're paying for HBO or whatever it's on, then you're paying for the movie. And with HBO, if you're subscribing, then you're also helping to pay Bill Maher's wages as well. What a horrible thought.

The movie stars Matt Damon FGS, why would you expect it to be anything but anti-American? Damon is a no-talent, non-charismatic, boring schlub who somehow got noticed by Lefties with money who were/are willing to put him in movies to dispense their anti-American/pro-Socialistic propaganda. I'm tired of these "America is the villain" anti-Iraq war movies. Here's a suggestion: there are four men who have been awarded the Medal of Honor, the highest military award for their valor in Iraq, and two in Afghanistan. How about making a movie about them? why does 40% of France believe that George Bush ordered the CIA to fly planes into the WTC? because they've watched 30 years of movies that have conditioned them to believe that it's not only possible, but likely that an American president could/would do such a thing for personal political or monetary gain.
