When Will Some Brave Comedian Spoof Jon Stewart?

For eight very long minutes Jon Stewart spoofs Glenn Beck. Good luck slogging through the last half. As my mind wandered near the end two questions suddenly came to me: Why won’t Michelle Pfeiffer take my calls and other than Keith Olbermann, who’s more spoof-able nowadays than Jon Stewart? Consider how much comedy gold there is to grab hold of:
1. He’s desperately in love with himself.
2. His audience will laugh at anything (as this overlong skit proves).
3. Whenever the show’s energy starts to die, Stewart reliably resorts to Plan B: Much VOLUME followed by Funny Face.
4. He’s a coward who hides his Leftist in-the-tankness behind that tired ”I’m just a clown” schtick. Hell, even Olbermann has the guts to step in the arena and take a hit. As does Glenn Beck, for that matter.
5. When he does do a serious interview and the guest gets the better of him, Stewart goes for the cheap joke to win the audience back.
Jon Stewart is a Palace Guard not a satirist.
In my book, that makes him fair game.

How DARE you! Jon Stewart is always honest. Jon Stewart is always hilarious. Jon Stewart is always right. And another thing, moving to a joke when things get ideologically dicey is a GENIUS RHETORICAL MOVE. I think it was Aristotle who said: "A statement is persuasive and credible either because it is directly self-evident or because it appears to be proved from other statements that are so. Also, when you get in trouble make a quick joke." When will all you neo-con, right wingnut, republiCAN'T, Blight-bart people get a clue? Jon Stewart is a blameless, sainted, (and so endearingly modest!) and brilliant comedian who is the only one brave enough to speak truth to power. And that truth is that Barack Obama is doing just fine.

Jon Stewart mocks Glen Beck ( who is ALREADY a mockery to begin with , which only makes Stewart's job easy ) and all of a sudden you Right Wingers get frantic about it ! You never wondered why Stewart had not been spoofed BEFORE he did his " Beck act . " I would agree with you , however, that Jon Stewart's effort was not NEARLY as entertaining as the REAL THING ( Beck ) . It astounds me how you people can actually take blow hards like Limbaugh , Bachman , Palin , Hannity , Beck , etc all… so " seriously . " They are all clowns. I used to watch this guy, back in college, mostly. Then I grew up and realized that he's only funny if you think you actually are in some way better than the people he shows you how to make fun of. If there was one thing my bleeding-heart, public-school, social-science teachers actually got right, it was that this is precisely the worst kind of sense-of-humor; that when you make a joke out other people, you're only laughing because you're insecure about who you really are.
The society that eats up this type of humor, to the point of believing, and admitting in surveys, that it is a better and more reliable source of 'news' for them- is severely flawed. Think about.
I love Glenn Beck, and think he does great work. I think this is actually very funny. If it's actually meant to make valid criticism, it fails on that level, but I think it's adorable and a not particularly hate-filled or nasty mock of Glenn's ways. It actually makes me love Glenn more — thanks Jon

Many regressive liberals/democrats get their news from a comedy channel, which is how we can end up with an economically illiterate political neophyte for a president. The democrats don't care about qualifications, experience or competence, if they did Pelosi, Reid, Franken, Waters, et al wouldn't be in congress. As Biden said, obama is "clean and articulate", and he's black. Isn't that enough? Come on, it's only the US Presidency, it's not like he's applying to be a manager at McDonald's.

Here is some truth to power; If you keep forcing this socialist agenda against the will of the people, I'm afraid there will be blood as the movie title said. But, from what I have heard from Liberals who are honest, yes it is blood they want.
What are Leibowitz' ratings these days? I read a few months back that his audience is less than a quarter of what O'Reilly's is. I only see him when he makes Newsbusters or here on Breit. I don't know that an imitation of Stewart would draw much of a crowd, since Stewart doesn't draw much of a crowd. I even read that his demographics are looking bad, that he doesn't attract the young and "hip" anymore.
Stewart has a show three-four times a week? That's about an hour and a half of performing time every week. Now, look at Beck with three hours a day of radio and an hour show five times a week. Not only is Stewart's audience limited, but he's clearly a slacker.
The rif should be a lot shorter, it's way too long, but the concept (there's a plot to steal Glenn Beck organ by organ) is admittedly a funny one.

It is worth noting that Stewart himself admits he is a clown and a phony journalist to boot, but when you listen to his fans they overwhelmingly believe he is a real hard news reporter. What I find so amazing is how threatened the MSM is of Beck. I'll even agree with the Beck haters that he goes over the top at times, but why can't anyone (the Whitehouse included) challenge him on his facts or attack his message. One thing I notice different between liberals and conservatives is the recipient of attacks. Liberals ALWAYS attack the person delivering the message. Conservatives attack ideas. Liberals MUST have a charismatic, (i.e. Obama), leader while conservative principals and ideas will surface to the top in spite of the personalities. I agree that it went on a little long. But the first five minutes or so were hilarious. That's the best I've seen Stewart do in a long time. He has Beck's whole array of gestures and vocal mannerisms down pat.
I don't dislike Beck, by the way, and am often annoyed by Stewart, but you gotta admit this is some well-conceived, well-performed comedy. And it's not even terribly mean.

Please explain to all of us Gary why the MSM would go after a private citizen standing in HIS own front yard playing catch with his son. When unannounced, a Presidential candidate shows up on the sidewalk and asks him if he has any questions. Joe the Plumber asked a very simple intelligent question about taxes, to which Obama replied with a very reasonable detailed explanation of his tax plan but ends it with " I think that when you spread the wealth around it's good for everybody". Now it was the Associated Press that originally reported the story not Joe the Plumber. So it was Obama's own poor choice of words that created the firestorm, not Joe's evil diabolical conservative plan to embarrass a Democrat. But it was the MSM and Liberals who started looking into Joe's I.R.S. records, his plumber's license, and his past marital affairs in an effort to discredit him. They very publicly attacked a private citizen for asking a question that their messiah tripped up on.
So while you are correct that these attacks occur on both sides I hope that you will at least acknowledge the severerity and the degree to which they happen to conservatives versus liberals. You can apply this tactic to Linda Tripp, Jennifer Flowers, Carrie Prejean and a multitude of other private citizens whose only crime was bringing the truth to light thus embarrassing a Democrat.

I never found this guy funny, never!! I remember him on a show many years ago called "Short Attention Span Theater," which gave clips of comdey bits, and was on the old Comedy Channel. He was the co-host, who try and smirk as much as he like never made me laugh. As a result I never watch his show. The biggest sin I can think of for a comedian to make, is to NOT be funny. Jon Leibovitz is one of the biggest sinners in comic related entertainment today.
This is just a guess..but I'm thinking the average age of bloggers on here are say 60 years old?? I hope you understand that every day, your party looks more out of touch with "real Americans". I find it funny how the beginning of the show shows our founding Fathers and then includes Martin Luther King. There are no "Brave Comedians" capable of "Spoofing" Jon Stewart. Why? Because there are no successful right-wing comics. Conservatives, by definition, are not creative. This is the reason 99% of the world's greatest writers, musicians, artists, poets and yes, comics come from politically liberal back-rounds. Conservatives, generally, lack the ability to laugh at anything more sophisticated than crude jokes. They can't recognize or appreciate satire, parody or irony, let alone create them.

Proving that he has never watched Glenn Beck he failed to realize that is exactly what Beck does on his show. Take Van Jones, Anita Dunn, Mark Lloyd, and so many others for instance. In essence Beck and Stewart are doing exactly the same thing, except where Stewart points out the humor to make you laugh, Beck points out that truth that makes you want to cry.

This choice demonstrates how slim the pickings are for you. Ford's scholars consider him essentially apolitical, but it is interesting that at least two of his most famous movies, The Grapes of Wrath and How Green was my Valley, are quite liberal, the former often considered socialist propaganda, and the latter quite sympathetic to unions. Moreover, his favorite presidents included JFK and FDR, and he spoke against McCarthyism (although he signed a loyalty oath himself).
It is true that in his later years (in the later 60s) he identified more with republicans, but by then, his movie-making had nearly ended, and the last movies that won him significant awards were from at least ten years earlier.
He's not far left by any means, but to consider him an example of a creative conservative is a stretch. The best you could say is that he was creative, and later he was somewhat conservative. Surely there are better examples of consistently conservative artists. Or perhaps not.

There is no motivation for any veteran comedian, most of which are friends with him anyway, to suddenly take a jab at him by spoofing his character on the daily show. I've read your bio and many of your posts by clicking on your posting name. You are quite critical of Glenn Beck (despite what you say in this particular post). Your are also quite critical of Sarah Palin and George W. Bush. I'd say that many of your posts are in conflict with your description of yourself as a conservative. I will say that I did agree with some of your earlier posts, so don't try to paint me as someone that jumps to conclusions – just someone that is trying to stand up and defend Glenn as opposed to Jonny, who I find to be a bit of a coward, hiding behind his protestations of only being a comic, thinking it gives him the right to lambaste conservatives without any form of critique or comeback. Its true that I have very low opinions of both George Bush and Sarah Palin. With Bush, its one word, Iraq. Now, I have never in any way advocated any withdrawal, pullback or the other assorted Bullshit Liberal Talking points, but I think we can all agree that going in there was a bad idea, the Chief Reason being that the Iraqi Regime, terrible though it was, did not pose a major threat to us as compared to the Government of Saudi Arabia which continues to do so. In the words of Mike Huckabee "You break it, you bought it". Combine that Strategic Blunder with Bush's handling of the Economy. He basically set a precedent for the Marxist in Chief to follow. Which brings me to my next point.
Bush and his ineptitude handed this country squearely over to Obama, Pelosi and Reid. Say what you will about the man, but we both know he was extremely unpopular and deliver us to our current sorry political state.
With Sarah Palin, it is a simple dislike of her manner of "Politiking" and Speech. She is inexperienced as well, but hell if Obama can do it why cant we? I agree with almost every single one of Palins policy positions, I just hate the way she talks.
Now with Glenn Beck, as you may have read, I like the Guy, I dont like his Style, but I do like the guy. I like him much more than John Stewart. I often watch GB's show, and I have never watched John Stewarts show, discounting these occasional clips. My point is merely people should recognize that his style is pretty damn overly dramatic and dare I say, retarded. Stewarts critique of his style is pretty straightforward for that reason.

I liked George W. more than the alternatives, past and present, but still had a problem with some of his domestic policies more than his execution of the GWOT. I still believe that fundamental muslim-based terrorism is still more of a threat to us all than the present administration is portraying it and should be fought wherever it rears its ugly head. I won't get into a philosophical discussion on Iraq, though I'll say we should agree to disagree and leave it at that. I'm in complete agreement with you on the economy – he got played by the Dims and he should have fought that tooth and nail, and that he shares the blame with them for the sorry economic situation that existed at the end of his term, which made it nearly impossible for another Republican to get elected. I also believe that Sarah Palin has been effectively smeared by the liberal media so that even conservatives have developed a negative opinion of her based on the saturation. Inexperienced? I daresay that she as the governor of Alaska and mayor of Wasilla had more leadership experience than a community organizer and a senator that was in the senate around the same amount of time as she was. Senators and community organizers don't make executive or leadership decisions. I will agree with you about Mr. Beck – I like him, but only in small to medium doses. His schtick does wear thin after awhile but at least he's on the right track. I've watched Stewart but find him abrasive and annoying. So, overall, we're probably close ideologically, though I will continue to defend those such as Beck et al as they are the conservative voices that exist now, although there may be others that have a more effective and palatable way to deliver the conservative message. When they come to the forefront, I'll defend them as well.
My favorite part of Jon Stewart is the fact that in various studies his viewers are consistently score higher in political knowledge or ***at least on par*** with Fox. I guess those studies are by liberals trying to socialize my fascism

To be sure, in these days, I grow to think much more fondly of the Bush Years, and his Quick and Decisive Actions immediately after 9-11 were definitely worthy of allot of praise. He also stood steadfast on social issues. All that said, I'm also growing to think more fondly of the Clinton Years as well in these days.

If anything on any of the news networks is to be considered "real news", then so is John Stewart. Cable news is a joke. At least John Stewart owns up to it. Which is why he has so much credibility with his audience. Unlike clowns like Glenn Beck, or any other personality on cable news who try very hard to be taken seriously. That is why they are so easy to spoof. They spin the news so much that what comes out is so ridiculous you have to make fun of it.
I take a great deal of comfort knowing that the audience of cable news #1 show (Bill O'Reilly) only amounts to about 1% of the U.S. population.

South Park spoofed Glenn Back in last night's episode as well and Trey Parker and Matt Stone are not left leaning like Stewart (Matt Stone has stated, "I hate conservatives, but I really f**king hate liberals."). Its not liberal vs conservative, its spoofing flaws in the rhetoric that Beck uses and people still seem to fall for it.
