Christ Gets Pissed On, Muhammad Gets a $150 Million Biopic

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with a respectful, big-budget biopic of the prophet Muhammad – that’s not the point – but it’s well worth remembering that while he was one of the biggest movie stars in the world, Oscar-winning director Mel Gibson had his ”Passion of the Christ” turned down by every studio in town. You know, even though 70% of Americans identify themselves as Christians.
Now, if Gibson had produced “The Pissing on the Christ…”
Producer Barrie Osborne cast Keanu Reeves as the messiah in The Matrix and helped defeat the dark lord Sauron in his record-breaking Lord of the Rings trilogy. Now the Oscar-winning American film-maker is set to embark on his most perilous quest to date: making a big-screen biopic of the prophet Muhammad.
Budgeted at around $150m (£91.5m), the film will chart Muhammad’s life and examine his teachings. Osborne told Reuters that he envisages it as “an international epic production aimed at bridging cultures. The film will educate people about the true meaning of Islam“.
The article then goes on to inform us that out of respect for Islamic law Muhammad will not be shown on the screen. If only such respect was extended to every major religion. Which isn’t to say religion, including Christianity, is above satire, but what we have here is another example of the mindset of those who control the most powerful propaganda machine ever created. Think about it: “The Passion” remains one of the most profitable films ever and yet an industry frequently ridiculed for reproducing ad nauseum anything resembling a hit will have none of it.
Feel free to comment away but please don’t make the mistake of accusing Hollywood of hypocrisy. This is an ideological war and there are no rules in war and anyone wringing their hands over “not playing fair” are missing the point.
When you loath Christians and want to do everything in your power to marginalize who they are what they stand for, there’s nothing at all hypocritical about pissing on Christ and deferring to Muhammad.
In fact, that behavior is perfectly consistent.

I'll agree. I know it's easy to pick on Christianity as the big kid on the block, but Islam has been the big bully recently. South Park at least has recognized that pretty well,bashing Christians, Muslims, Scientologists, Global Warmers and whoever gets too big for their britches. :p

We all know why no one will make these jokes about Muhammad: if they do, they'll end up either shot, stabbed or blown to little bits. Honestly, I understand it. Islam is a religion of extremism. I don't know if I would ever have the courage to do a mass scale attack on Muhammad of any sort. Geert Wilders has to sleep in prison cells for his own protection, is under constant police surveilance and only gets to see his wife once a week. Kurt Westergard's (did I spell that right?) house has steel doors, a panic room, bulletproof glass and constant police surveilance for his protection. I really have to commend these men; they are some of the few who have dared to criticize Islam and they have paid dearly for it. I'm not going to blame anyone for not making fun of Muhammad (as so few ever will), but we do need more people like them.
Good question. Maybe it'll be shot in third-person, but with no-one actually cast in the lead role — the other actors will stand around delivering their lines to empty space. As a Christian, I believe in keeping an open mind but what is being peddled as the "true meaning of Islam" isn't even close to the original writing. In a way I feel sorry for guys like Larry David. It's getting so damn hard for a show-biz figure to be "transgressive" and "outrageous" these days. You also want to be pretty sure that the persons you do "shock and offend" won't do anything really serious about it. I would like to expand on a comment I made yesterday. How will this biopic handle Mohammed's wives? His 4th wife was betrothed at 8 years old and "fully wed" by 10. Will we see how fully incorporated slave holding is in the founding culture of Islam? Will we see the full brutality of Mohammed and his followers, warfare with no prisoners taken? Conversion at the point of a sword? While historically accurate, this would lead to world-wide riots and mayhem. More likely is that we are going to see a desert hero, leading his people to justice and peace with the One True God. Remember, Islam means "Submission"; submission to the will of Allah, to the wisdom of the imams, to the leader of the clan, tribe, family, #1 wife, husband. By the way – We have been down the Mohammed biopic road before. That would be Moustapha Akkads 1976 desert duster, "Mohammed: Messenger of God" (also called "The Message.") This film (starring Anthony Quinn and Irene Pappas) also faced the problem of having to avoid an actual corporeal depiction of The Prophet. (Mr. Quinn did not play the lead. Instead he reprised, for the umpteenth time, the role of a grizzled warrior desert sheik.) As I recall Mr. Akkad used POV shots for Mohammed's presence with maybe a bit of his robe or sandals. Release of the film caused violent protests around the world and it disappeared after only a short time. Moustapha Akkad then worked with John Carpenter as a producer on various projects including several "Halloween" sequels. Akkad was a moderate in religious matters, a lover of Islam and a critic of Islamo-terrorism. In a piece of exquisite irony he was killed in 2005 in the terror bombing of an Amman hotel where he was coincidentally staying as a guest.. I hope that the creative team behind the new Mohammed flick pay attention.

Frankly, I would welcome a biopic about Mohammed. If it is historically accurate, it will go a long way to exposing the true nature of Islam. If it is a work of fiction, then it will be an easy strawman to criticize and thus allow us to show the true nature of Islam and portray Hollywood as a propogandist. Think the recent move Che but with Mohammed.
It figures that the money is coming from Arabia. Why else would a producer go far out of his way to produce an expensive biopic that even Muslims didn´t exactly clamor for?
Some questions remain. Who goes to a movie to be "educated"? Will they show the massacre and enslavement of infidel Jews and how will they sell that?

You're absolutely right. The previous movie did not show Muhammed the prophet, and it STILL created outrage from our Islamic-Fundamentalist brothers. Back then, it was very hard to refute falsehoods being made about that film, in societies so foreign from our own. In the meantime, does Hollywood not realize that Jesus is looked upon most reverently by these same Islamic Fundamentalists that they supposedly are trying to appease? It's a double standard.
BTW, John Nolte… I appreciate you listing your "thick-skin" credentials. In a just world, it wouldn't be necessary, and the outrage would be taken as it is, without need of justifying whether one can take a joke or not.

The challenge is to engage the culture with the same medium. There have been some great Christian themed movies, such as Facing the Giants, Fireproof and Bella in addition to the Epic The Passion of the Christ.
The medium is very imporant, and I would encourage anyone out there who has a gift or a talent in this area, to pursue that dream and enter into this medium and make respectable movies that reflect honorable values.

There've been hundreds, maybe thousands, of Jesus Movies made since the beginning of Hollywood and NOBODY raised a fuss about any of them (well, except the Christians when Scorsese made his). Nobody cared that "The Passion" was pro-Jesus, they cared that it was ANTI-Jewish.
As for Mohammed, I'm wonder who, if anyone, expects to turn a profit on this. Most of THIS country is going to hear "it's a movie about Islam" and respond with "I don't wanna see a movie about the TERRORISTS!!!!!" (see: big chunks of the comments above this one.) Most of the Muslim World will probably be too engulfed in protest over it for anyone to see it non-pirated. China/India probably don't care either way.

There's nothing wrong with a 150 million dollar glorification of a genocidal tyrant who preached, and practiced, rape, slavery, misogyny, the burning of books, the aforementioned genocide, pedophilia, the assassination of any who protested his actions, extortion, coercion, blasphemy (the use of religion and usurpation of divinity for personal gain) , plagiarism… frankly there isn't enough room in this box to cover every shade of Muhammad's monstrosity.

I would say there's as much wrong with a respectful, multi-million dollar act of fellating Muhammad as there would be with one about Adolf Hitler, to whom Islam's fanatical violence and ruthlessness was a great inspiration.
People in the Middle East already view Hollywood as a symbol of America, and everything they hate about us. If Hollywood puts out a movie based on their revered prophet, the same prophet that causes riots the world over whenever his followers think he may be shown even the slightest disrespect, two guesses what will happen. This is going to cause an uproar whether he's shown on screen or not, and the fall out isn't just going to come down on the heads of those involved in the project. If Hollywood puts it out, it's as though the entire country put it out. If there's a retaliation, it won't just be done to Hollywood. This has the potential to be very bad.
This really doesn't bother me, because no matter how much the producers, directors and stars try to bend over to appease the Muslim community, the odds are better than 2-to-1 there's going to be something in the movie that will cause the more radical types to turn this into a repeat of the Mohammad, Messinger of God movie fiasco from 32 years ago.
And unlike someone like, say, Al Sharpton, who'll take a payoff from a big corporation to his National Action Network in order to not to be offended anymore by the movie, book or TV show they put out, the people about to make this film are going to find out that with radical Muslim fundamentalists, no matter how much you tell them you hate George W. Bush or even Christianity, you can't bribe your way out of a fatwa.

Early Hollywood showed this respect to Jesus Christ in such films as the original silent version of Ben Hur, where you saw His leper-curing hands at most. By the 1960s in King of Kings you got to see His shaved armpits!

I just can't imagine that one could make a movie about Muhammad that would both get approved by Islamic religious authorities (i.e. avoid having a fatwa against the filmmakers) and please non-Muslim filmgoers in the United States. If they are planning to spend $150 million on this film they had better expect to recoup $149 million of that in the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe, because most of the U.S. is not going to be too interested.
How about making a movie of us pissing on Muhammad and the Koran and see how fast we are sought out and targeted by the Islamafascists liberals for extermination.
So threats of violence is the only language these Liberals understand. Hmmm, I see. Note to self.
Let me see if I have this right, I think I am getting the hang of it:
1. no tolerance for those who are tolerant
2. tolerance for those who are intolerant
3. OK to kill un-born but keep alive (food, bed, TV, health care) sociopathic convicted murderers and rapists.
4. womens's rights for liberals, no rights and only disdain for conservative women
5. Good intentions are OK, facts that conflict with beliefs- Bad
6. OK to fight wars but not OK to win (UN Policy)
RIght, and it was 5 years ago yesterday that Van Gogh was murdered in the name of Islam by a devout Muslim, and most in Hollywood couldn't give a rats ass about it. I don't recall any acknowledgment of his murder at the Oscars the following year, even though he was a filmmaker. And a film about his murder would be as likely as the term "Islam means peace" never being uttered again.
If hollywood wants to cheap shot christianity, that's fine. Let 'em. I have long since decided not to support films, tv shows, networks, cable or otherwise and ideologues by spending my money on their garbage. That said, it seems to me this muhammad biopic will likely be less about an accurate portrayal of islam and it's fundamentalist wacko's and more about killing two birds with one stone. That is, being politically correct and making a boatload of cash off the idiots who will go see it.
I wonder how it would go over if someone made a film of pissing on Obama? Racist would be the charge!

Larry and Laurie David are reprehensible cretins. What kind of respect, what kind of positive influence could they expect to gain from such disgraceful behavior? Oh yeah–the love and attention of the left-wing/entertainment-complex. This is gratuitous and insulting in the extreme. David et al seem to be blind to how offensive this is. It doesn't even have the slight redeeming value of a hint of humor.
I'm sure David would never dream of substituting a picture of, for example, Anne Frank for Jesus in this scene. If that is true, and I think it is, his real motivation for inflicting this crap on us is highly suspect.

It doesn't appear to be a movie about radical Islam, so I'd suggest that you might well need it.
Its not a bad read, but unlike the bible it has the vengeful god at the end not the beginning.
