That’s missing the point.
Hypocrisy or a fear of how some wacko extremist might react has nothing to do with this. Hollywood constantly singles out Christians for cruel ridicule and the worst kind of stereotyping for one simple reason…
They hate us.
They hate our guts.
There’s nothing more complicated to this question than that.
I promise you that if every Muslim on the planet was as gentle as a kitten, it would still be Christians singled out by the entertainment industry at every opportunity.
Now, you wouldn’t know it from following modern-day pop culture, but we Christians do have a sense of humor and are just as capable of laughing at ourselves as anyone. But we also know when we’re being singled out, when we’re being laughed at and the difference between good-natured and mean-spirited. We acknowledge that there are many good people working in Hollywood who oppose this kind of bigotry and double-standard, just not enough of them to put a stop to it…
Here’s how much they hate us, how much they want to hurt us — and it goes way beyond a willingness to damage their own bottom line…
Good people hurt innocent people every day. We lose our tempers, say things in anger and generally come to regret it later. That’s one of the rougher parts of dealing with the human condition. And when good people watch Larry David piss on Christ, his mocking and blatant disrespect makes them angry. Some might even think, ”I should produce a YouTube of me pissing on Hollywood’s god – Barack Obama!” Which wouldn’t be a difficult or expensive thing to do in this digital age.
But good people don’t follow through on such things. Eventually, their better nature takes over as they think about how such a cruel and disrespectful act might hurt those they know who admire Obama … or the president’s two young daughters.
Nothing, however, stopped Larry David — not the time, logistics, planning or funds needed to put this cruel episode together. David’s not a dumb man, and neither are the many people who made the production possible. Every one of them knew exactly what they were doing, what the outcome would be and what Christ means to His followers.
And they relished every moment of it; the planning, execution and most of all, the uproar and disappointment that followed.
Anger puts cruel thoughts in your head. Hate’s the fuel required to take you across the finish line.
There’s no shortage of fuel in Hollywood.

Yet another reason I never have and never will watch Curb Your Enthusiasm.
I will probably piss some people off with this this comment, but I am a Christian and I enjoyed this episode. I have no problem with humore that is not PC. Larry David pokes fun at everyone. He has no bounds and his humor is very topical. In fact, I cannot think of one group that he hasn't offended on "Curb" at some point, including Jews, etc.
Just let it go and enjoy it. And, if you don't want to watch it, you don't have to.
If I were Jesus, I would appoint you spokesman on this one.
There'd be no sense in continuing to be outraged by this stuff, and it always ends up helping them.

I don't completely agree with this. Yes, they certainly would still be attacking Christians (as the predominant religion in the country) but there would probably be some slams against Islam as well.
Here is another truth – they never would have done this to a BLACK family. You are all up in arms over the Jesus thing. But they portray the WHITE women as stupid. Imagine if his secretary was Black. "Hollywood" doesn't hate "Christians" it is Jews that hate Whites.

Did you know that the actual Mohammed cartoons aren't even really insulting? The imams who drummed up the fake outrage over them actually had to create a couple new ones that were really outrageous just to get people upset.
Even disregarding that, nobody is saying that people don't have the right to be offended by the Mohammed cartoons, or to voice disgust and anger.
So your point is entirely irrelevant.
And any objective person can see that there is a difference between a cartoon making fun of Christ (such as South Park does all the time) and PISSING ON A SACRED RELIGIOUS SYMBOL.

Word! If mocking one religious icon is fair game, they all are. Part of the reason it's funny is because it's taboo, and you know it'll piss some people off. I was listening to Steve Malzberg,conservative radio host, today and he told an interesting story.Steve used to be a sports tv guy and he became friends with Richard Lewis and through Lewis Larry David.So Lewis would call up Malzberg all buddy buddy and ask him for various tickets for NY sporting events.Malzberg became the radio host and when they found out he was conservative they went crazy and had nothing to do with him ever again.Malzberg said he couldn't believe people were saying nothing about the Jesus episode and he found it despicable.David and Lewis hate conservatives and they probably put Christians into the right wing box.Now David has had shows where he went after Jews but more with a wink than vindictiveness.I quit HBO when they cancelled Dennis Miller and brought in Bill Maher because the guys running HBO hate the same people David and Lewis hate.
I haven't seen this episode, so I'm not going to cast judgment on it. However, I can say that when Larry makes fun of Muslims, its played out like he's the jerk. When he makes fun of Christians, it's because the Christians are jerks, or total morons who would see urine on a painting of Jesus and think it was crying. So this whole excuse about "he offends everyone" is a cop-out.

I haven't seen this show, but its true that Christians are attacked by Hollywood a great deal– I do believe it is because our moral stance, especially as it regards sexuality, is the polar opposite to theirs. But the Bible does say to rejoice when persecuted — and persecuation is not just being eaten by a lion.
I do wish some wealthy Christians would back Christian artists or open a film studio or TV network,–we need more films as powerful as 'The Passion of the Christ ' being made — we need to get our message out using the same mediums–film and television– we need to fight fire with fire. The numbers of people that showed up to see 'The Passion shows that there is a huge audience–huge HUNGER for this. And lets not watch the secular toilet shows in the first place–its not helping us any to do so–it erodes our sensitivity to what is vulgar frankly.

I don't hate Christians. I fear them. Jesus is one scary person. She's hides my car keys, makes me leave good clothes in hotel rooms, tries to run over me with a train. Mostly mean. He has a more serious side though. A few years ago a small girl in Florida was viciously sexually molested, wrapped in plastic (along with her teddy bear?!) and put in a cold grave to suffocate. Does one think for one millisecond that this little girl didn't pray with all her heart for a kind Jesus (the one her well-meaning parents taught her about) to HELP her out? He ignored her. An innocent child. Nice guy that. The perp died of cancer in his cell not long ago, further disillusioning me, since I was hanging on the hope that Jesus would show up and ZAP this guy (slowly) to medium rare right there in the exercise yard. I think Hollywood actually hates anyone who questions their "morality." Any religion that dares have moral convictions against pretty much any sexually immoral behavior Hollywood derides. It's not just Christians. They hate us, they hate conservative Jews, they hate conservative Muslims. If you have the audacity to tell them they should wait to have sex until they marry, then stay faithful to their spouse until death do they part, they are going to hate you.

There is an organization called Act One, a sort of social network and mentoring program dedicated to supporting and encouraging Christian artists who are trying to break into Hollywood entertainment industry. Many of its members have been working in the industry for some time; these aren't obscure "We shot a video for a megachurch so we're professional" guys, but people who work on television series and movies that anyone would recognize. So, as John pointed out, there *are* people in Hollywood working to change things from the inside (or, at the very least, create quality work while reaching out to their fellow workers in Jesus' name).
They've also got a book available – a collection of essays written by various members of Act One – that's well worth reading, whether you're a Christian who wants to work in the entertainment industry or a Christian who wants to know how to approach Hollywood in a way that's effective (as opposed to just making noise).

No, there really weren't: The joke isn't "ha ha, he peed on it!;" the joke is that people believe the "moisture" is a miracle – the painting "crying." There aren't really many faith's OTHER than Christianity notable for occurances of inexplicably leaking artwork.
Mr. Nolte is incorrect. If Muslims were all non-violent, they would be targets for ridicule. Unfortunately, this episode and the predictable, cringing, "don't behead me" response from David now that CAIR has rebuked (and threatened him, let us be honest, with violence) David makes the point.
Violence and the believable threat of violence WORKS to censor and prohibit speech. Who will criticize Islam, Mohammed, or Muslims after the Danish Cartoons, violence, and of course the murder of Dutch Film-maker Theo Van Gogh?
NONE. Making criticism of Islam, Mohammed, and Muslims a great "taboo" and thus unspoken, and growing. Given that culture in the West, from Larry David to Sting, pretends simply that Muslims DO NOT EXIST, or if they do they are gentle but eccentric Presbyterians, this leaves real discussion of how most of America perceives Islam, Muslims, and Mohammed to the internet and rumor.
Most Americans know they are being fed a pack of lies, and cringing, gutless appeasement on the subject. Leading to a pretty widespread assessment by most Americans who lack much of any independent knowledge about Muslims, Islam, and Mohammed to one central conclusion: all are the enemy of America, and in fact the central enemy.
This could have been forestalled by an honest, forthright, no-holds barred depiction of Muslims, Islam, and Mohammed as humans, flawed in their humanity but neither the fount of all evil nor angelic "Magical people of color" to paraphrase Spike Lee and David Ehrenstein (the Black LAT writer who penned "Barack the Magic Negro.")
David's failure to take on Islam makes the violence veto work and insures highly negative, and permanent views of Islam and Muslims by most Americans. It also btw encourages by providing concrete examples that violence indeed WORKS. It works to curb Hollywood.

That's the truth. You'll be hard pressed to find an atheist-ruled country (Nazi Germany, Communist China, etc.) which supports basic human rights like life, free expression, and private property. For that reason, you won't be seeing Bill Maher take a one-way trip to Beijing.
If a government believes they-not God-are the source of human rights, what's to stop them from taking them away and bestowing them at a whim?
Setting aside whether or not Hollywood "hates" Christianity, is it fair to ask at this point why they SHOULDN'T? "Christianity," or rather the faith(s)' self-appointed mouthpieces, have been attacking, assailing and, yes, HATING Hollywood and the film industry (the arts as a whole, really) for decades if not centuries. The Christianity that backed the Renaissance is looooooong gone, people.
"Hollywood" was predominantly founded and run by Jewish Americans, but instead of declaring (or in some cases, even ACKNOWLEDGING) their Judaism they played "nice" with majority-Christian America; helping prop-up the image of Christianity as America's spiritual-default. What did Jewish Hollywood get in return? Hate. Scorn. Calls for censorship and "morality." The Hayes Code.

Ace- You are absolutely correct! As soon as a Christian compromises, the unbeliever he's conversing with ease up. The Holy Bible also says that in the last days the Name of Jesus would be the only one they hated. The darkness hates light because light exposes the darkness for what it is – Evil. The Bible says in the last days the evil of the land will run to the rocks and try to hide themselves from the wrath of God. We are living in those days now. Saving the planey is futile. Even today, Hollywood is "disproportionately" (compared to the rest of the population-demographics) Jewish, "disproportionately" homo/bi-sexual, "disproportionately" non-mainstream, basically – as most creative communities tend to be. And in this more brazen age, there's very little pretending that Christianity, at least on the organizational/leadership side, ISN'T filled with hate for such people. We know, thanks to Prop 8, what they REALLY think of homosexuals and other non-traditional lifestyles. We know, thanks to the success of "The Passion," how they REALLY feel about Jews.
If this is "hate," then it's rather mutual.

Personally, the idea that Hitler and Dr. King both get the same eternal end (oblivion) is far more disturbing.
Is it any wonder that godless gangmembers and spree killers (e.g., Virginia Tech) kill so many? If God doesn't exist, then we don't have to fear facing His wrath for our evil acts.
That's REAL injustice.
Hey, Bob, Mohammed isn't represented in artwork. But, a cartoon about him creates riots and burns embassies down. Moses not so much. In your swipe at Christians with your smarmy and irrelevant "leaking artwork" comment, as if that rare phenomena is widespread, I guess you've never been to the Wailing Wall, a Native American tribal ceremony or on the haj where Islamic emotions have trampled a fair number to death every year. But, it was Christianity you were zero'd in on.
Since your moniker "MovieBob" hints at a guy of such paltry substance and depth I wouldn't expect you to see Larry David's offensiveness in the real world outside of the movies.
