ObamaVision: The EIF’s Implausible Deniability
by John Nolte
Yesterday, The L.A. Times ran a story referencing our Thursday series covering the leaked network network memo and those “organically” produced network television shows running this week designed to funnel the unsuspecting to creepy Internet portals eager to direct your children to Planned Parenthood:
More than 100 programs on ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and cable networks such as Nickelodeon and Lifetime will spotlight community service, either through explicit story lines or public service announcements featuring actors such as Emily Deschanel, Eva Longoria Parker and Rainn Wilson.
The message will be nearly ubiquitous, starting in the morning with programs such as “Today” and “The View,” and then echoed on soap operas, prime-time series and late-night shows.
Isn’t “Today” a news show that’s supposed to be doing, you know, news and not jumping to the tune of a memo that opens with “President Obama has called for…”?
Twitter users have posted messages complaining that the initiative is an abuse of the public airwaves. Writers on the blog Big Hollywood, part of the conservative news portal Breitbart.com, noted that the iparticipate.org’s database of volunteer opportunities includes postings from Planned Parenthood and groups focused on ending global warming. (The database — powered by a nonprofit Web platform called All for Good, designed by engineers from Google and other tech companies to be a single search interface for volunteers — also includes listings for anti-abortion organizations and the conservative group Tea Party Nation.)
Unless something’s changed from when we broke the story (and this wouldn’t be the first time one of these creepy volunteer portals got a scrubbing), there was one major distinction between how you could go about finding pro-baby slaughtering groups and pro-life groups.
In order to find a pro-life group you actually had to type in “pro-life” (in their attempt to criticize us, Media Matters inadvertently verifies this — see their last example) — and let me assure everyone that nowhere on the leaked network memo do the words “pro” or “life” appear separately or together. In other words, you gotta be pretty specific in what you’re looking for and this full-on network crusade has no intention of urging anyone to volunteer for pro-life groups.
However….
As Stage Right pointed out, to find Planned Parenthood you need not type in “abortion” or “child killing” or “infanticide.” Not when typing in the hottest topic of the day — health care — does the trick:

That’s a screen shot from last week from the iParticipate website and for the next five days the plan is/was to get your kids all ginned up and excited to “volunteer” — and this is a plan executed by people who equate Planned Parenthood with health care. In fact, Planned Parenthood ranked #2.
But here’s my favorite part of the story… The “Who us?” part…
Entertainment executives first hit on the idea during a board retreat in summer 2008 when they were brainstorming how to follow the “Stand Up to Cancer” project, according to Mitch Metcalf, NBC’s executive vice president of program planning and scheduling and a member of the EIF board.
“We’re lucky that the Obama administration happened to think this is a worthy cause and the first lady in particular is behind this general effort,” he said. “But that just provides support and shines a spotlight on it. . . . We’re certainly not servicing the White House.”
Why would anyone think network television is servicing the White House when the memo directing everyone to “organically” create propaganda opens with, “President Obama has called for…”?
And then there’s the coincidence surrounding the laundry list of specific asks. Top three in the EIF memo: Education, health, environment… Top three in the NEA conference calls: Health care, education, environment…
Damn these lying eyes of mine.

My wife has been on me about how conspiracy theories are just theories, that there's no cabal looking to indoctrinate our children, if there is anything, it's a bunch of loose liberals who all have the same idea. When I told her about this and pointed to the evidence, all she could say was "Wow!" Then I told them the network's response and we both laughed. Coincidences are crazy, but I'm not stupid!
John
I suppose it is a good thing we do not have actual thought police because you would be strapped to the rat cage in room 101 by now.
The people I really worry for are the Judas' (to Obama's Jesus) who leak this stuff. They will have their livelihoods ripped from them. Just witness the people who contributed to Prop 8 who were drummed out of town.
I appreciate the courage it takes to stand up to these forces.
I won't use my real name and I'm just a lowly government contractor.
I do not want my children exposed to any of this indoctrination. They have already been taught the value of volunteerism without any help from the government. The government needs to get the heck out of our day-to-day lives!
Some have suggested that this is the precursor to required volunteer service and then eventually the building of a civilian army. That thought is scary. They will not start with my children!
Everywhere I turn, whether it's trying to watch a game on TV in peace, listening to the radio while driving to work, or walking past the magazine rack at the grocery store I am ambushed by this nonsense. Can we just have a day or two where this government push to "volunteer" is off limits? Can they take a break or at least give us a break? Say on the weekends?
And since when do people listen to Dwight Shrute for advise???
It's deplorable, and imagine the outrage if this was reversed. What if the government was funneling money to right wing organizations, and the networks in concert with the Bush administration were advertising for them….The outrage would be unbelievable…http://cooperscopy.blogspot.com/
No, see, whatcha gotta understand is that abortion just IS health care. Pro-life is, what? No care at all! That's what.
Pardon?
This isn't Kool-Aid. It's, uh, it's just, uh, grape juice. Yeah. You sick right wingers are against fruit. Racists.
Is it me or does this president have an intentional fashion. So often it is the boring suit with white shirt unbuttoned at the top. A lot like Ahmedinejad, and yet very boring. It's as if style or flash of color might reflect him as a capitalist or a self-expressing individual who believes in the right to have ones own identity. Just an unimportant observation.
His drab, nondescript dress, is akin to Mao's green jumpsuit.
I think we need to adopt every one of their tactics, sans the outright SLEAZE, once we re-take the House, Senate, the Presidency and eventually, everything else. Let them scream bloody murder about it. We need to start wanting to win, and we need to deliver wins. Winning isn't evil. But letting liberals destroy this country with socialism IS evil.
Typical, obsessed with the clothes, cause the ideas are too hard.
Remember with Clinton, people obsessed over a particular tie because it may have been a gift from Monica?
I don't think much about it, and it might be borderline loony.
But then again it doesn't mean you are wrong. Crazier things have happened.
Oh give me a break, you all loved the idea of the government funding church-sponsored programs under Bush that pushed the church agenda. This is not any different, it's just that its not using the church.
And, yet… in the MSM, the "Truthers" get more air-time and coverage than we do by pointing out all this honest-to-goodness collaboration.
Eagerly awaiting the New Hollywood.

Obama may be trying to impress us common folk how much he is one of us by trying to be casually dressed.
For me, IT AIN'T WORKIN'!
I want a leader that not only dresses appropriately for the most important position in the world, but more importantly, ACTS like he is a leader. Obama ain't it!
Let's see, Bush wanted to fund church sponsored programs that would help rehabilitate drug addicts and inmates so that they may lead better, more productive lives. How evil of him. Obama is using the apparatus of the government (funded by tax dollars) to promote the Democrat-Socialist political agenda and to silence critics of that agenda. How noble of him. I guess it is a fair comparison, if you agree with the likes of Walter Duranty.
All I can say is that the wording of John's piece is pretty inflammatory i.e. “child killing” or “infanticide.” I am not sure what the point of this is, but it is certainly not going sway anyone on the fence. I guess it is just bloody meat for the faithful.
Don't forget that Obama was on board with those same church programs…… But that's ok, nothing Obama does is ever wrong….

Yet another reason I do not have cable. My daughter isn't exposed to this crap. She has DVDs to watch and that's perfectly fine with me. (Plus I don't have to worry about her always running to me and saying, "I just saw the coolest (new toy!) on t.v. Can I have it? Please?).
Sometimes, you gotta call it like it is.
he was making a point. …that you don't havde to go to extremes to get to Abortion. just a simpole How can I help with get you straight to abortion and the prez will love you for it. What the left needs is more dead babies – they just can't go on if they can't have dead babies.
Some random thoughts:
How does "Reading is Fundamental" come up as the FIRST option in a health care search?
Not "servicing" the White House…is that in the sense of Monica Lewinsky "servicing" President Clinton?
Does anyone really watch the networks anymore anyway?
So these are the cutting edge "free thinking progressive" types in their finest hour. Never underestimate the usefulness of idiots. What a farce!
As a wise man once said "It's not paranoia, it's called smart thinking!".
If you voulenteer, you do it because YOU WANT TO DO IT! That while it benifits someone else, it also benifits (not finaically) you as well in some way. You don't do it because your president or first lady demands it of you. If you don't do it of free will, it's not for others, it's for the state.
That I did not forget. I just did not want to put too much of the child's plate, it just would have confused him.
Wasn't that Mao's idea?
Well hell, if we're all going to be unemployed, we probably should volunteer.
Well hell, if we're all going to be unemployed anyway, we probably should volunteer.
Mao meet Obama. Obama this is chairman Mao. Oh I see you two already know each other. 50 million Americans we have a special camp for you, come join us please.
Stalin this is President Obama, Oh no introduction is needed I see, well lets just get to the chase of the matter. These are the 70 million Americans that "volunteered" for the wrong causes. We need to show them the new light.
Adolph have you come up with a better solution than those smelly ovens. Oh good, President Obama is going to need the improved plans.
hmmmm – isn't that how the Hitler Youth started???
I made two points, but if you were referring to the second one, then partly yes. The Hitler Youth were created before the Nazis seized power and it was after Hitler had consolidated his position that the HY were made the only officially allowed youth organization.
What is really ironic is that for years people complained that television was too violent, promoted teen age sex, etc. These protests were always met with the assurance from Movie and Television executives that TV programs didn't influence behavior. Society was supposedly influencing TV, not the other way around. So if we apply their own reasoning, we have to conclude that Americans must already be volunteering, and Obama has no need to encourage it!!!
Beyond the obvious left-wing tilt, this is a really poor search engine. In addition to the example above where #1 has zero to do with health care and #3 wouldn't come to mind I tried some different searches in my area (Sacramento, CA) and they had little to do with the key words I typed. It would have been better to build a topic style engine and then sub groups. Poorly executed, poorly planned, and from my viewing of CSI:Miami last night, some poorly scripted shows. At least all Castle had was a temporary replacement of the ABC logo with iParticpate.org for a few seconds.
The New Cold War is getting colder. Get ready folks. They are ramping up and mobilizing.
When they hit back twice as hard are you ready to hit back thrice as hard? I hope you all are building the firewall around your child's brain. They are coming with a heavy arsenal.
Thrice as hard!
That's exactly how I feel about all this. It's not that Comrade Obama really wants people to volunteer out of the kindness of their heart, it's that he wants to make people work for the benefit of the collective.

Think about it: "Scrubbing" as a term to mean getting rid of internet evidence is now used in the vernacular in a commonplace way that it wasn't used during the Bush years.
Get ready to begin hearing the word "Banned" become an everyday word.
Welcome to the wonderful world of fewer freedoms and greater restrictions. This is the course we are on. Feeling good yet?
I suppose it would have been better if he refered to abortion as culling…the liberal attitude that taking life as long as it is still gestating is something I have never been able to comprehend….maybe more liberal mothers should have taken up the practice
Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you! (and I'm not saying you're paranoid!)
Y'all better get yer tin foil hats on soon as all git out! Them evil 'Bama brain waves a'comin' for ya! An' make sure you get that tin foil all squished down around yer eyes and ears so ya' can't see or hear no evil, and a good heavy piece of duct tape over yer mouth will finish the job! Now ain't that better?
And the MSM wonders why they're asking for a bailout.

"a plan executed by people who equate Planned Parenthood with health care". You mean people with a grasp of reality? Planned Parenthood does provide health care.
what if someone has a certain fruit allergy? if they avoid the fruit are they racist?
Dang it PeterPike it is just too hard to be PC!
Even today, many older people in the Soviet Union believed that the millions of people who disappeared from 1930 to 1950 went to gulags as "volunteer" workers.
While that may be an extreme example of doublespeak, mandatory volunteerism (via graduation requirements, peer pressure, financial incentives) is never sustainable on its own. Real service comes from a desire to help others, the purest form of which is doing so without any recognition at all. The level and quality of service I expect we will see from a government program will be similar to the service coupled with the phrase, "would you like to supersize those fries?".
Actually, Obama's probably right to promote volunteering. We know that conservatives donate more money to charity – the least the liberals can do is try to catch up!
Just not for babies.
Which is ironic, since "parenthood" is in their name….
I just love how the Left is now trying to co-opt volunteer work.
After decades of criticizing conservative organizations like the Boy Scouts and religious charities (while they were DOMINATING volunteer and charitable service in the world). Now, the Left has "found" service — and, just like everything else, they claim Obama invented it. Nice.
I agree. From now on I will refer to Abortions as "Making Little Angels"
It's not just PSA commercials this week, as anyone who watched CSI:Miami can attest to. The show itself, was about the "evil" corporate farmers and how they don't care if they kill people. Not just that, but at the very end, they have three vignettes on the screen. One is of the two female CSI's working in a "community garden" (which is clearly marked as such – big sign in case anyone missed it), in the second, two of the male CSI's are out in the fields, assisting the migrant workers (during the show there is a comment about them being illegals) and the third is one of the CSI's working in a temporary clinic (gotta get the healthcare in there). This has been one of my favorate shows, but the tone and derogatory dialog offended me to the point that I don't know whether I can continue to watch. We'll just have to see what else this week will bring. My future may be filled with the lack of network programming.
PROPAGANDA! Next it will be subliminal messages….Oooops
With Cass Sunstein wanting to keep people from getting rid of rodents in their homes, it won't be long before the RM 101 scenario takes place.
How many of those churches preached about the goodness of George Bush and campaigned for him from the pulpit?
How can people volunteer their time for programs that Obama advises when they are out of work, and out of money and busy trying to put food on the table for their family while helping with the kid's homework and cooking, doing the washing and cleaning the house? And YES, I do know couples trying to juggle their jobs or looking for work with grocery shopping, helping with homework and everything else that goes with running a household.
These people don not need advice, they need help!
Yeah, forget about finding a job, Obama will take care of you!
You better check your teeth, Obama has a direct line to your brain through your fillings.
Either that or you are a full flegded troll!
And that is a bad thing? I managed to stay clear of all the reruns on TV this summer and still enjoyed a few chances to learn things I didn't know.

We noticed that there seemed to be a distinct "Obamacare" motif going on in the third season of Brotherhood, which we just watched on DVD. At the same time Eileen was working with illegal aliens and discovering that you had to be born to get health care subsidies, Rose was heroically struggling with insurance company paperwork etc. Fortunately, they dropped it and got back to the good old-fashioned gangsterism by the end of the season.
