Round Up of Hollywood’s Polanski Supporters
by John NolteThis is how degenerate Hollywood’s become: Today it’s more damaging to your career to buck the “cool kids” and speak out against the child rapist than it is to be the child rapist.
The round up below took twenty-minutes to put together. Who knows who or what else is out there. And don’t forget it’s early. Hollywood’s Rally ‘Round the Child-Sodomizer is only 36 hours old.
“We’re calling on every film-maker we can to help fix this terrible situation,” Weinstein said. Sources close to The Weinstein Company said the mogul would reach out to Hollywood to lobby against any move to bring Polanski to the US, where he could face up to 50 years in jail.
We live in an age that is so thoroughly post-modern that you can find an obvious literary antecedent for nearly every seamy media storyline. The same goes for the Polanski case, which is full of echoes of “Les Miserables,” the classic Victor Hugo novel about Jean Valjean, an ex-con trying to turn his life around who is being obsessively tracked and hunted down by the Parisian police inspector Javert.
Hugo’s story is a tragedy, as is the life story of Polanski, who was a fugitive as a boy and is now a fugitive as an old man. Whether the L.A. County district attorney office has its way or not, it is not a story that can have a happy ending. I think Polanski has already paid a horrible, soul-wrenching price for the infamy surrounding his actions. The real tragedy is that he will always, till his death, be snubbed and stalked and confronted by people who think the price he has already paid isn’t enough.
Has Polanski suffered at all for his crime, apart from going to jail for 42 days in 1977? Of course he has. The crime has been haunting his head and heart for 32 years and it has defined the political and geographical limits of his life and career for same amount of time — more than half his adult life. He’s lived as a fugitive, a restricted man, a hider in the shadows — never a good thing for anyone in a spiritual sense.
But in the minds of the haters, Polanski hasn’t begun to suffer enough. They’re determined to lash him to the rack and keep him there. They want Pilgrim justice, flayings, black caps, thumbscrews, howls and clanging metal doors.
The Zurich Film Festival jury donned red badges reading “Free Polanski” at a news conference Monday and accused Switzerland of “philistine collusion” in arresting Polanski.
“We hope today this latest order will be dropped. It is based on a three-decade-old case that is all but dead but for minor technicalities,” said jury president Debra Winger. “We stand by and wait for his release and his next masterwork.”
Festival de Cannes president Gilles Jacob, Italian star Monica Bellucci and directors Costa-Gavras, Wong Kar Wai and Bertrand Tavernier are among the signatures on a petition demanding Polanski’s immediate release.
“I am both surprised and concerned,” said Mark Urman of Paladin Films, who has worked with Polanski for decades, echoing sentiments expressed by many on the eve of the Jewish holiday of atonement.
“I find the whole thing sad all around,” wrote producer Mike Medavoy by email. Referring to the unrelenting policeman in ‘Les Miserables,’ Medavoy added: “While it isn’t exactly Javert, the original story — going back to Roman in Poland, the murder of his pregnant wife, and the strange mother-daughter story, the judge — I think they should drop the charges and he should come and end all of this.” … “He needs to be able to live a normal life without feeling this shadow over his head the women involved want him forgive and feel he should be left alone.”
You might wind up asking yourself: ‘But was it consensual?’ And if it’s consensual, does that really make a difference when you’re talking about a girl that young? …
In France, where Polanski has been living for the past 30 years without trouble due to the country’s limited extradition laws, they’re appropriately upset and “dumbfounded” by the Swiss’ decision to detain the filmmaker. The Zurich Film Festival will still go ahead with its planned retrospective of Polanski’s work and a special ceremony will be held Sunday night “to allow everyone to express their solidarity for Roman Polanski and their admiration for his work,” according to the festival manager.
Neil Jordan, Mike Nichols, Salman Rushdie….
Apprehended like a common terrorist Saturday evening, September 26, as he came to receive a prize for his entire body of work, Roman Polanski now sleeps in prison. …
We ask the Swiss courts to free him immediately and not to turn this ingenious filmmaker into a martyr of a politico-legal imbroglio that is unworthy of two democracies like Switzerland and the United States. Good sense, as well as honor, require it.
Roman Polanski Understands Women: Repulsion
I’m not going to go into my Roman Polanski defense. I’ve been doing this all morning, nearly ranting and raving over my views on the matter, and have grown frustrated and depressed. But in short, I’m not happy about his arrest. So, I would rather discuss one of his greatest pictures, a brilliant portrait of female sadness, alienation, sexual neurosis turned to psychosis. A movie all women should watch is his masterpiece Repulsion.

No surprise.
"The crime has been haunting his head and heart for 32 years and it has defined the political and geographical limits of his life and career for same amount of time — more than half his adult life. He is a fugitive by his own choice. He could have stayed in LA, served his sentence and been a free man for a majority of those 32 years.
Comparing Polanski to Jean Valjean?!?!?!
Jean Valjean stole bread because he WAS HUNGRY for FOOD! (Excusable, no, but still places him a bit higher than Polanski's sick motive)
Polanski raped the girl because he was a jacka$$.
Also, Valjean spent over a decade in a brutal prison. Roman Polanski has been stuck in Europe, visiting the best places and greeted by the top of the top of Hollywood.
I would say more but I am pissed.
Also, Valjean risked his life and safety on numerous occaisions for others (revealing himself to save an innocent man for one).
It seems that if you have a sense of right and wrong you are a "hater."
More on ValJean:
Valjean stole food to feed his sick and starving niece.
Roman Polanski raped a girl for whatever sick reason.
Valjean served 19 years in a brutal prison.
Polanski served 42 days in prison and spent the rest of the time in Europe.
Valjean revealed himself to save an innocent man.
Valjean saved a young girl from a life of servitutde to the abusive and evil Thernadier.
Valjean carried out a dying woman's wish.
Valjean saved a young man from being executed.
What has Roman Polanski done?
Thankfully, I've only heard of two people on that list.
Chinatown may be a masterpiece, but that doesn't forgive him for that horrible crime he committed.
Whoa. Wait a minute. Sodomized? It's been so many years ago that I don't think the press had the heart to give that detail. I missed that, and it makes not one whit of legal difference, but still. . .
So it wasn't even so much an attraction as just a horrid brutalization of a child, as though any child would consent to such an impersonal, aggressive act.

Not only that, but Valjean realized the error of his ways, and worked to redeem himself and help others. Polanski hasn't bothered.
The only reason all these Hollywood people are defending him is because they all have skeletons in their closets. They want to know when their sins are revealed, they will have all these people defending their actions as well.
Hollywood rule: If you can get out of the country and stay gone long enough, we'll just forgive and forget! No matter what you did! Especially if you make movies!
This song sums up the difference:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PXZ1nLiUZo
I wonder what Polanski would have done in such a situation, it would reveal much . . .
Sorry, but that comparison makes this Les Miz fan fuming.
I had to stop reading Wells a while ago … I don't like to verbally assault fellow bloggers, particularly movie bloggers, but his site is too often a very ugly place to visit. This is just another example of just that. Sad.
Just sit back and watch Hollywood play in the gutter with the rats…
This is indescribably revolting. I mean, really, how many degenerate pedophiles is Hollywood going to bring itself to defend in a year? And I guarantee you this is going to be way, way worse than the Jackson stuff, because — in their minds — Jackson was less defensible and — far worse to anyone with a moral compass that has the faintest scintilla of true north — Polanski was a genius and part of the Hollywood royalty before his fall from grace.
Go to the Smoking Gun and read the victim's direct testimony, if you have the stomach for it. Then look at these defenses and see how appalling they truly are.
Patrick Goldstein says "I think Polanski has already paid a horrible, soul-wrenching price for the infamy surrounding his actions."
Oh Please! If he wanted to atone for his actions he would have done so long before now. He didn't volunteer to come back, he is being forced to. Those are not the actions of an innocent man.
Funny how those who support that disgusting piece of shit, are the same pathetic morons who continue to tell us how to live our lives like they have that moral authority to do so.
Seriously what the hell is wrong with these people? I'm really starting to think that they aren't even human at all..they just don't live in reality.
For those of you defending this immoral, evil, and without remorse individual perhaps if it had been your daughter who had been raped and sodomized by Mr. Polanksi you might take a different position on "freeing" him unless you mean freeing his soul from his earthly body.
Clearly bringing him back to the USA is a death sentence for him as even most hardened criminals realize that child rape is unacceptable and worthy of the death penalty.
That he has had to "worry" about being on the run for 32 years compares not to the memories of what the poor child must endure. For those that support him – you have no morals but that is hardly a surprise to most outside of Hollywood.
So they will throw the child rapist a ticker tape parade with a star on the walk of fame. Why doesn't someone ask Jack Nicholson his (lies) thoughts on how all this happened ? He's as culpable as Polanski.
If he didn't want to go to jail then he shouldn't have drugged and raped a 13 child. A 44 year old man has no excuse to have sex with a 13 year old. He knew what he was doing. These people are sick. He has not begun to pay for what he did. Men like this don't do it just once. No telling how many other children he has molested before and since this girl was raped. Child rape is not excuseable 30 years ago or 30 years from now.
If this site didn't report the ugliness of the Hollywood socialist movie industry, no one would. They will always excuse one of their own, while demonizing all regular Americans. Why do you think they've had such rotten sales the last few years. Also, have you noticed they stopped telling us how many people paid to see movies, only telling us how much cash they took in. Every time viewership goes down, they raise the ticket prices.
And the French thought Abu Ghaib and Gitmo were bad. Wait until this frog spend some time in San Quentin. He going to wish that he was in Gitmo.
He's evaded justice for the better part of 3 decades. If Roman Polanski is truely innocent, why did he flee, and avoid prosecution? I thinks he's guiltier than sin, and he ran because he was afraid to pay his penance. Innocent people don't flee, and hide. They stand their ground, and defend their honor. In a nut shell, he belongs in jail for raping a young girl. Period.
It's time to call like it is: women, gays, and those who are part of the feminized, gay culture of Hollywood, don't have the sort of objective moral standards that Joe Average has. What matters to women, gays, and feminized men in Hollywood is power, status, and how much the "cool people" like a person. NOTHING ELSE. Ted Kennedy, Michael Jackson, John Edwards, Roman Polanski. Anything approaching decency and justice is anathema to them, because Polanski is cool, powerful, and other cool and powerful people like him. Same with Woody Allen or Morgan Freeman.
Whoopi Golderg opined it was not "rape rape" … because her female audience feels the same. Polanski is an Alpha Male, therefore NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.
This is indeed the ugly, dark, depraved side of the female (and gay character). The flipped mirror image of the sadism and cruelty of the male character that prompted Polanski's monstrous cruelty in the first place. The one admires the other, for the cruelty itself, as long as it is masked in the approval of polite society.
Burke had it right. Humanity is prey to its worst instincts and vices, and this is true for women and gays no less than masculine men, without the restraint of traditional culture, mores, religion, and custom. Having all that cast off, we see the utter depravity of the male character (Polanski) and his female, gay, and feminized men admirers.
WTF is Patrick Goldstein talking about and who TF is he?
BTW, what exactly was on those films that were removed from your house the night Sharon was murdered, hmm?
To the hollywood intelligentsia the great injustice is that they haven't had Polanski's company for all these years.
Couldn't be on Letterman, couldn't host SNL, can't hand out Oscars. What a shame.
But what's all the fuss is about, what he's "accused" of doing sounds like a usual Saturday night in hollywood.
As far as I'm concerned, this is a big waste of the taxpayer's time and dime. Why do you think California has become bankrupt? Because of that Jessica's Law that was passed by 70% of morons here, and now all our money is going into sex offender registries, shoddy ankle bracelets and cases that are irrelevant to me since this happened ten years before I was born.
By the way, Michael Jackson was not convicted of a crime, he was harassed by the police and certain cretins who tried to extort money from him, so they made up stuff about him being a so-called child molester so they could milk him for all he was worth. YOU murdered Michael Jackson. Every single one of you cretins who falsely accused him of being a pedophile. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.
While I believe Polanski should face justice for his crime, the assumption that "innocent people don't flee", especially when failing to prove their innocence would likely destroy their lives, is questionable at best.
We are a nation of which a large percentage of the population either fled or is descended of those who fled someone else's corrupted concept of "justice".
Good question, I'll ask Lawrence.
This is the first time I heard that Jessica's law is the source of California's financial woes. I like the theory though. It's fun.
So I guess that Roman Polanski did not RAPE Harvey Wienstiens daughter! I say bring the SOB back and stick him in Jail for 50 years and let Bubba be his Cell mate!
WTF….Are these idiots in Hollywierd hung up on getting their friends off? They scream like little spoiled brat girls when the Paparazzi is following them. Scream Stalker when some average Joe or Joan says Hi to them. Expect the whole world to come to their rescue when they are done getting high or drunk.
It's about time … Send this DB away!
Let's Round up Americans to put Roman Polanski away for the next 50 years!
Ah, the horrible haunting nature of life on the run for thirty years. Being forced to dwell in French villas and Swiss chalets, make millions doing pictures far away from the US… Truly, such suffering is more than ample repayment to society for the distress he inflicted.
Actually, Bernie Madoff has likely suffered great psychological stress from trying to keep his scam going all those years, and that was just financial stuff. They already took his money, he has been punished enough. Let him off the hook too, it is only fair.
IIRC, Goldstein is a critic for the LA Times. If I'm wrong, I will freely admit to it.
I believe Lawrence is a hit and runner. So I in the spirit of neighborliness will continue his concern
that Jessica's Law is indeed a budget buster. He may have a point. It does seem like California
does have more than its share of deviants. I also suspect Lawrence doth protest too much.
I make no accusations. Just saying.
Okay, I had never heard of Repulsion before, I admit it. I just read its Wikipedia article, then the IMDb entry and synopsis.
Who is this Kim Morgan person, and why are they allowed in public when they are clearly insane? Just read the HuffPo piece, "Carol is the personification of sexual mystery — she is what lurks beneath the orgasms of pleasure and pain." There goes about fifty years of "feminist" thought about the nature of women. Gee, if women at their core are really this messed up, first take away the vote since they cannot be logical enough to use it, then keep them all quiet and on short leashes. Heck, men should just go back to "forcing" women since clearly they do not know what is good for them.
Is this Kim Morgan's real comment on Polanski, or am I missing something?
I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up . My sentiments exactly. hmmmm?

Thanks for putting this together, John.
Can't tell the players without ya' program.
I wonder if any of his supporters would offer up their 13-year olds for old Roman. Hypocrisy runs deep in Tinsletown.
Do you believe that Roman Polanski fled out of the fear that his life would be destroyed for his failing to prove his innocense? With the attorneys that he could afford?
Or perhaps he just didn't want to pay all those attorneys all that money?
He pled guilty to the charges (having sex with an underaged child) and failed to show up for his sentencing. Rather than face up to 50 years in jail, Mr Polanski skipped bail, and fled the US concept of justice.
He should have negotiated his surrender some time ago, and this wouldn't be news now.
He is not an innocent man, by his own admission. He pled guilty to having sex with an underaged child, and, while still out on bail, fled before his sentenceing. He's guilty as charged. Probably more so.

The child was drugged and raped in Jack Nicholson's home (where the 'photo shoot' was supposed to take place) but Nicholson himself was not there at the time-his then-girlfriend Anjelica Huston was. She too though is a piece of work saying the victim was 'sullen' but that she didn't think the child was 'scared little 13 year old girl'. Huston was shortly thereafter busted for possession of cocaine I think. She must have been trippin' at the time because she claims the child could have been 'up to 25 years old'. BULLSHIT. I've seen the victim's photos from the shoot-IT IS CLEARLY A CHILD in the photos made up, and posed provocatively.
I feel much the same way as you have described. Polanski can rot in Hell, but I don't really have a strong emotional investment in this. The graphic facts of the case that keep getting retold on this website don't have any legal force since he was allowed to plead to statutory, which is the same crime as I would commit if I picked up a 17 year old with a fake I.D. at my local bar.
IF this case is so heinous, he never should have been allowed to plead. Pursuing a 30 year old statutory rape case where the victim is now 43 and has asked for it to be dropped, is kind of Inspector Javert-ish.
I'm going off of intuition here, but I'm reasonably sure "Lawrence" hasn't reproduced.
You'd probably be both surprised and horrified. But at least they aren't hypocrites…
"Why do you think California has become bankrupt?"
I was going to go with too low property taxes…I hadn't considered the cost of tracking sex offenders. That could add up.
The crime at the heart of "Chinatown" was also the rape of a child.
Hey Lawrence, I believe people who defend or rationalize child rapists are in some ways just as immoral as the the offender themselves.
We are living in Orwellian times when those against pedophilia are called "cretins".
How did we get here?
What does it say about the American audience which keeps the creeps in the lifestyle to which they are accustomed; whine all you want about the creepy Hollywood but Americans continue to pay for and watch the stuff of which icky is made.
American audience, for as long as you care more about your stuffing your empty self on Hollywood crappy entertainment then Hollywood pedophiles will continue to sleep in magnificent castles filled with comfy, warm beds instead of under a f*&king bridge in a f*&king cardboard box.
I have to admit I find the whole thing kind of strange. The fervency of his defenders and well as the passion of those who seem genuinely angry about this. They couldn't possibly muster the strength to be this upset over each child molester of the past 30 years.
This has clearly become a weird outlet in our enduring culture war.
Let the law sort it out. That's what the law is for.
It does seem odd to me that they would execute this warrant now, and it seems like its more international trouble than its worth, but the law is the law and if the warrant was good and we have an agreement with Switzerland…
I personally have never been haunted by the lack of justice by our failure to prosecute Roman Polanski. It just seemed weird to me that our industry just kind of pretended that he wasn't an accused rapists that fled prosecution. But going over there and getting him just hasn't been a big priority for me.
Polanski had the best lawyers money could buy, and his existing Hollywood clout would've gotten him appeals which eventually would have even reduced the remaining charge to probation, or some other slap on the wrist. It happens all the time. But Polanski, the coward, fled to Europe where he lived like a king in the best hotels, seaside villas, and lauded by the 'elite'. He never suffered unemployment, or his films unmade because of the refusal by backers to pay for them. He has lead a very, very comfortable life. Hollywood has an obsession with 'genius', and ignores the perverse; primarily because they have no moral compass. Everything is relative, and unless they are personally affected, they avert their eyes and place their hands over their ears when someone in the 'community' does something truly monsterous (Unless they vote Republican.).
So no means yes now?
Funny how those who support that disgusting piece of shit, are the same pathetic morons who continue to tell us how to live our lives like they have the moral authority to do so.
Seriously what the hell is wrong with these people? I'm really starting to think that they aren't even human at all..they just don't live in reality.
Those are not the actions of a contrite man.
The law tried to take care of it, and Polanski fled the law. One doesn't have to be emotionally invested in this to understand that that's seriously wrong. If we want our laws to mean anything, we can't just let a guy yell, "Olly Olly Ox'n'Free" after 32 years because WE don't want to care anymore.
Only sailors and homo's are named Lawrence.
KW2
You have a point.
I have no idea what each Hollywood personality said about the (supposed horrible) torture of the terrorists in Gitmo, but if any condemned that and defend this, well then they themselves are unworthy of any respect..
Old_Tom I have to disagree. The case shouldn't be dropped, he should return and face justice. IF the judge determines he has suffered over the last 32 years, has paid his debt, etc. then that will mitigate the sentencing. But to just blow off the crime and in fact put the seal of approval on running from justice? I don't think so.
So how long until a very special episode of Law & Order features Jack McCoy ranting about the injustice of prosecuting a man simply because he drugged a 13-year-old and then stuck his hoo haw in her keister against her will?
I think they think this is a movie.
And once they get Polanski free, are they going to set up the Philip Garrido Defense Fund?
As an individual with the ability to think, reason and decide for myself, I have.
I can admire a work of Art, — Singing, Dancing, Acting, Writing, Painting, if it is well done. I can even applaud the skill of the individual artist, the hard work and dedication to the craft. In my world I assign it a value, will I buy the Painting or book for what the Artists wants, am I willing to pay $$ to see this performance? The worth in my world is of course related to my income, what % of my time/sweat is this worth?
This is the point I start from. Everything would be quite simple- the product, its value to me, its availability. Y or N?
Now when the producers of this product intrude their beliefs, opinions, and lifestyles into the equation, it becomes something else.
When I buy a product I support the Artist. If the Artist's lifestyle and opinions are diametric to my own, I have a quandary. Do I indulge myself in what I want at the moment and support someone who opposes my beliefs, or do I deny myself some small pleasures and stand firm on moral ground?
This is something each person must answer for their own self.
As for me, if any Artists, political ideology is abhorrent to me, if their lifestyle is offensive/ not just different, if their declared moral stance is degrading in my eyes, in good conscience I can not support them. Ergo I must sacrifice, a nights entertainment or a life time of enjoyment of a picture. That right of decision is still mine and I exercise it daily.

I didn't see Debra Winger on your list. Did I miss it?
This is just the expression of an alternate sexual lifestyle. I, like the hollywood left, see nothing wrong with raping children. After all, the kid gave consent – after the fact. And the victim received cash. Who wouldn't want their child to be raped if it meant honor in the house of mammon?
Hollywood sets the gold standard for Depraved Indifference.
It apparently hasn't haunted him enough to want to man up and face the music in 30+ years..
OTOH he could have the basis of a new movie detailing how child-rapists are treated in prison…
How would any of these men felt if Polanski had drugged then raped their 13-year old daughters? Because he's supposedly a "genius," this behavior is okay? What a bunch of hypocrites.
If there ever was a town since Roman days that can furnish a "Jury of his peers" its Hollywood.
The defenders of Polanskl, what a bunch of cretins.
Wow, talk about delusional. I wonder how many restraining orders you have against you….
Well there's a silver lining….
My goodness Lawrence, your oxycon is an hour late and you really get cranky.
Hey, Hollywood, Do you really want to support this POS?
Let's get out of your dream world and back to reality here. Let's get this straight.
Polanski drugged this girl.
Polanski performed oral sex on this 13YR OLD GIRL. She said NO and BEGGED to go home.
Polanski raped her having intercourse against her will. She said NO and BEGGED to go home!
Polanski then flipped her over and sodemized her and then finally climaxed. She said NO and begged to go home!
After he got his rocks off, what did he do? Get up and say, "Now you can go home. I'm finished."???????
Hey, Hollywood. I know that many of you are full of your own self worth but COME ON NOW! Wake the hell up. What if it was YOUR DAUGHTER, YOUR SISTER, YOUR NIECE, or YOUR FRIEND????? No wonder the Hollywood industry is losing money. We don't feel like supporting you sorry excuses for human beings.
I am incredulous that anyone would defend Polanski. Like Kit, I am furious that this Goldstein character would deign to compare Polanski to one of the most virtuous figures in literature…Jean Valjean…who in Victor Hugo's book, was not only an example of service and sacrifice, but he was also a lifelong celibate. I seriously doubt Goldstein read the book.
I have a belief that if the director had been Elia Kazan the Hollywood troop would be frothing at the mouth at his arrest. After all, his naming names in the 50's is the truly unforgivable crime.
As I consider the various rantings on this subject, I notice that there is one aspect of this case which has been largely overlooked. Aside from the underlying offense, this Defendant has also committed an offense against our system of justice by his flight. In a way this offense is far more basic, more fundamental than the hideous act Polanski admittedly performed.
Our legal system rests on the premise of "Equal justice under the law." That is, justice is dispensed without regard to race, religion, class, or wealth. Granted, the degree to which we attain that ideal can be fairly debated. But the ideal is essential. One of the essential functions of government is establishment of an accepted system of dispute resolution. Here we have the courts. And essential to the operation of the courts is the appearance before the court at the time the case is called. By his failure to appear, and subsequent flight. Polanski has committed an offense against one of the basic pillars of society.
I would also surmise that many of Polanski's supporters have also, at times, decried perceived injustices in our criminal justice system. The rich and well-connected receive better treatment than the "average" citizen, and far better treatment than the "poor and oppressed", they say. And now, they seek to excuse Polanski because he is, well, rich and well-connected. Personally, I believe the extradition should proceed, not despite his fame, but rather, because of it.
Who are these people that think it's okay to forgive such disgusting criminal behavior, based soley on on the fact that he's successfully been a fugitive for 32 years? It doesn't matter that the 13 year old is now in her 40's, living a normal life, and want's the case to go away. This is simply testimony to her ability to move on with her life, which she would have done anyway. If he had done his time, back in 1977, I bet he would have made a lot more movies by now than he has. If he he's been "haunted" by a California criminal proceeding for 32 years, it is only a result of his own cowardice.
Not only is he guiltier than sin as you post. He pled, or pleaded guilty. I am not a lawyer, but I don't think that there is a statute of limitation for fleeing before sentence has been handed down. From the gist of your post, however, I think you're right. He's scared you-know-whatless!!!
This is kinda like how you get mad at the guys from the night before cuz they gave you too much hooch and sweet talked you into some things with all six of them. Just like I blew it off and I sure never considered it to be official "Gang Rape." Hell, you live and learn and you go on and maybe use it in your acting career. Look, this chick wasn't beat up, wasn't threatened, her mom must've like the idea of a big Hollywood legend paying attention to her kid. From what I understand, the kid actually survived! She should come onto The View and dish some dirt with the girls!
I would urge anyone to read her testimony. There's a "click here" link in the "Roman Polanski Plea Transcript" story. Statutory rape is when an adult has consentual sex with someone under the age of consent. This was clearly rape.
To be fair he should only get 50 years in jail.
Okay, I had never heard of Repulsion before, I admit it. I just read its Wikipedia article, then the IMDb entry and synopsis.

What the heck? Was that movie called "Repulsion" or "Caught From Behind Part 6"?
My advice to everyone out there is don't waste energy on this. I hope that all of this lobbying by the celebrity community results in Polanski's triumphant return to the U.S. Then we can all ask the question – "Where are the feminists and child abuse prevention advocates on this?" Why do they pursue guys like Clarence Thomas (who may have made some bad jokes around the water cooler) like he is Satan and leave guys like Polanski ( an admitted rapist) alone? Will there be domonstrations at his film openings? Will there be boycotts of film festivals that feature his work? I really want to know.
Les Miz,les miz, yada yada………
If they hadn't made a musical out of this, these dimwits would be making references to Lolita mistakenly.
God, they are educated on the way to work by reading billboards and listening to audio books when the speakerphone isn't on !
They have a great deal of perversity to protect here, most of their product, all of their personal habits, and some of their most cherished dreams of having their way with 13 year olds.
Lining up with this cretin might bring them some unwanted attention. A mistaken sanctimony in most people's eyes.
"it's just sex ." doesn't quite cut it here.
And furthermore ladies, if you should find yourselves singled out for so-called sex without your consent, ask yourselves this: Is the guy a lefty in good standing? Does he support unconditional abortion rights? If the answer is YES to these seminal (semen-al !!!) questions, then dammit just relax and enjoy it — he's a FRIEND!
Meanwhile, I got my people scheduling that friend of Roman's for an appearance on The View, possibly along with Cybill Shepherd who has promised to give all the details about her "date" with Elvis.
How many of those guys have questionable material on their computers?
I don't think you guys should be lumping Cinematical in with the rest of those boneheads.
I imagine Mumia Abu Jamal must be pretty pissed off right about now that Polanski's stealing all his supporters. I mean, cop killers are one thing, but a child rapist? Now there's a man all good libertines can really get behind. Sorry Mumia.
I see marchers marching, pasty fists punching at the sky: "Free Roman!" "Free Roman!" Candles sway to and fro in the twilight: "We shall overcome…" The patron saint of Baby Boom leftists is invoked: "Imagine there's no rape laws…"
Sigh. Hollywood is so fond of remakes…
Put him in prison and let him get sodomized.
Do these people even KNOW who they're holding in their filthy prison?
How dare they lay a hand on this stellar genius!
By virtue of just one of his immortal classics, "Repulsive," he reveals the inner soul of Woman, for the first time in the history of civilization.
We owe him not only our daughters but our enduring gratitude.
Man, Debra, you said it girl.
Go, girl!
You go, girl!
That's tellin' 'em, girl!
Hey girlfriend, go ahead and go!
Nice post there, girl.
That time when I was gang-raped?
Well, time has passed and I look back and feel pride, knowing that six (6) ACORN community organizers desired me as a woman.
Not everyone can boast of such memories!
I am, I'm "GOING, GIRL!"
You go, girl!
I am out there!
A 40 year old man drugging a 13 year old child and poking her in the butt may be a crime if you're a teacher, a coach, or crazy uncle Louie, but if you have a "Grammy" "Emmy" "Tony" or one of those little MTV Moon guys or say a friend of say George Clooney etc. then you are exempt. Which supporter would offer Roman their 13 year old daugher for his pleasure? There are consequences for actions, Woopie says it was not rape-rape. No he gave her half a qualude and got her drunk. Pretty hard to struggle when you're incapacitated. How many 13 year old girls want anal sex with a 40 year old guy? Maybe Harvey Wienstiens daughter?
If this had been someone like say Mel Gibson, he would be bludgeoned by the left! They are the biggest
bunch of hypocrits.
"We live in an age that is so thoroughly post-modern that you can find an obvious literary antecedent for nearly every seamy media storyline."
What on earth is he talking about? Is his thesis that in being "post-modern" we pattern our lives on literature, cosciously or not? Isn't the point of literature–good literature at least (or the only kind of literature this guy would bother to reference, since he's seeking out relevance)–to reflect real life?
"the Polanski case, which is full of echoes of 'Les Miserables,' the classic Victor Hugo novel about Jean Valjean, an ex-con trying to turn his life around who is being obsessively tracked and hunted down by the Parisian police inspector Javert."
Yes, rape for the heck of it is similar to stealing a loaf of bread to avoid starvation.
Is this guy insane?
