The Beast was a great TV show on A&E. Patrick was outstanding and carried every scene he was in. We were very disappointed to see the show canceled even though we knew he wouldn't be back but Patrick's character set up the whole tone and mood for it to go forward we thought. A fine piece of work. RIP

I'm keeping a very open mind about it, and considering the current political climate, I'm betting this might be more timely than I originally gave it credit for.

Tai Chi Chaun is a soft art. IT processes the energy of the opponent and uses it against him. IT has no strikes so no the throat ripping is not what I meant. In the movie when he was practicing moves alone he was doing Tai Chi. I know very little Tai Chi so am not an expert but it looked exactly as my Sifu did it. it appeared he had a proper energy flow while he was doing it. This is where energy moves through the body. A martial artist performing a technique has to get the energy flow (chi) right as well as the mechanical movement.

The throat ripping I was told but can't verify would have been an eagle claw fist. This is where the first two fingers and thumb are held rigid as the talon of a bird. This concentrates the energy of the strike into the fingertips and the throat (voice box) if hit unprotected is fragile. Much of martial arts is not so much about strength (although that is required) but hitting the weak points of the body with techniques designed to maximize the force. Again I am not an expert and it has been awhile since I had lessons so I probably am missing several important points.

I loved Patrick Swayze. When he did that thing to the law guy in "To Wong Foo..",,, that scene with him being the perfect lady in a dress, wig, and make-up, I was blown away... It's so very rare to see a real man (hero) portrayed so eloquently.
