WaPo: Bush-Joker Kinda Made Sense, Obama-Joker Racist
by John Nolte
WaPo: This is merely “play[ing] into a view of Bush popular among his detractors…”
This required a few passes to be sure my eyes weren’t playing tricks. You keep telling yourself to stop being amazed by hypocrisy and bias, but again and again someone like Philip Kennicott, a staff writer for the Washington Post, comes up with nonsense like this:
And didn’t we see George W. Bush depicted as the Joker not so long ago?
Yes, in an image by Drew Friedman published online by Vanity Fair on July 29, 2008. That drawing at least played into a view of Bush popular among his detractors, that the former president was unpredictable and fast on the draw when it came to geopolitics. But the danger many of Obama’s detractors detect is more of calculating, long-standing deception, that he is quietly and secretly marshaling a socialist agenda, a view that would be better served by imagery that recalled “The Manchurian Candidate.”
A few paragraphs later the R-word is finally (and predictably) let loose and the anonymity of the artist(s) becomes an issue:
So why the anonymity? Perhaps because the poster is ultimately a racially charged image. By using the “urban” makeup of the Heath Ledger Joker, instead of the urbane makeup of the Jack Nicholson character, the poster connects Obama to something many of his detractors fear but can’t openly discuss. He is black and he is identified with the inner city, a source of political instability in the 1960s and ’70s, and a lingering bogeyman in political consciousness despite falling crime rates.
Anonymity troubles HuffPoster Earl Ofari Hutchinson, as well:
As silly and loose screwed as the depiction of Obama is as a socialist Joker, this writer did not scream for the posters to be summarily yanked down and tossed in a Hitlerian banned-book bonfire. Instead, the call was simply for the individual or groups slapping the posters up to publicly ID themselves and take credit for their work. Come forth and take public pride in branding the president a jokester and a socialist. Don’t slink around at midnight, taking the guerilla graffiti artist’s route, and smear walls with the posters when cars disappear around the bend. That’s not the joker’s MO. It’s certainly not befitting someone who’s bold enough to call the president the Joker and a socialist.
And so Phase II begins: Put the pressure on to out the culprit.
Quashing a handbill that says so much with so little has proved impossible. The outrage increased “jOker’s” iconic stature and the attempt to stop its spread with a cry of “racism” not only didn’t work, it kinda backfired. But….
An individual or group can be destroyed, and all the Usual Suspects stand ready to Joe The Plumber/Carrie Prejean/Sarah Palin’s Family the artist(s) responsible for effectively turning the art-as-ideological-weapon tables. Oh, yes, they want a name…
And so, in these last remaining days of summer, as you head out to state fairs, family gatherings and townhall meetings, be sure to remind those who tsk-tsk your Obama-Joker shirt that putting “whiteface” on a black man is a-okay with the New York Times.

Please, please please let someone in the MSM cover this topic fairly and expose the hypocrisy. is that too much to ask?
Yeah, I know it is.
Yes, will the artist please do the best thing for the collective and turn himself/herself in for re-education. Please report yourself in at flag@whitehouse.gov ASAP. Thank you in advance for your compliance with the recent repeal of the 5th amendment.
[...] about Huffington Post as of August 6, 2009 WaPo: Bush-Joker Kinda Made Sense, Obama-Joker Racist – bighollywood.breitbart.com 08/06/2009 WaPo: This is merely “play[ing] into a view of Bush [...]
But the Bush-Joker did make sense, from a detractor's perspective! Bush's detractors did see the former president as an agent of chaos and anarchy. Obama's detractors, on the other hand, see the president as controlling, as desiring of a lock-step social order… which is the opposite of Heath Ledger's interpretation of the character. So, with the Obama-Joker, the image (anarachy and chaos) conflicts with the message (socialism, a type of ordered, social structure) and, overall, clashes with many conservatives' perception of Obama (controlling).
"By using the “urban” makeup of the Heath Ledger Joker, instead of the urbane makeup of the Jack Nicholson character, the poster connects Obama to something many of his detractors fear but can’t openly discuss. Or, it could be that Heath Ledger was the most recent Joker and still on everyone's mind. Sometimes a molehill is just a molehill.
conservative being called a racist for all things NOT racist = libbies running scared.
Kennicott's tongue must be raw from licking Obama's boots so much.
So, defenders of the man depicted as the Joker want to apply pressure so the artist will reveal himself… Hmmm, wasn't a major plot point of "The Dark Knight" the Joker applying pressure for the Batman to reveal his idenity?
I hope whoever made that picture stays hidden, because it's hilarious to watch the media go absolutely nuts not being able to crucify the artist.
Media: "So uh, who is he? We just want to talk to him…c'mon…"
Everyman Conservative: "Uh, but you all are holding baseball bats with nails in them…and pitchforks and torches."
Media: "Pssh, that's for something else. We're just curious to know who made this picture and uh, congratulate them for being so creative!"
Everyman Conservative: "It's amazing, the lack of incentive I feel to believe you."
Nothing new……………
If you oppose Obama……….
Then you a RACIST………….
I'M GUILTY AS CHARGED…………OPPOSING OBAMA THAT IS.
the left is having trouble with taking their own medicine perhaps?
to me, the spirit of the Obama-as-Joker, as well as the intent of the conservative reaction / the conserative reaction to the left's reactions… well it all amounts to a sentiment from the right of "Well if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!"
So, welcome, people on the right! Welcome to the use of street art as propoganda.
Just remember: now that you are engaging in it, in fact EMBRACING it… better not complain next time we do it to you.
Well. We did see how the New Yorker was treated when the "fist bump" made the cover. And weren't they a DNC ally?
And then we did see what happened after Bob Basso's EPIC production hit the web. (Well. No. My guess is that Bin Laden would be easier to spot these days.)
And now they want the original artist of Obama Joker to expose himself/herself? Why? Who would expose their family to Rahm and the blood and venom that spew from his every orifice.
The one lesson Rahm and Obama seem to have trouble learning? Thou Dost Protest Too Much!
we agree and accept this determination. Street art is just that- art; and as long as you are not defacing pivate property (tagging) it represents voices crying to be heard-
and THAT's America!
"But the danger many of Obama’s detractors detect is more of calculating, long-standing deception, that he is quietly and secretly marshaling a socialist agenda, a view that would be better served by imagery that recalled 'The Manchurian Candidate.'"
Not really. In the Manchurian Candidate, the public figure was a robot whose strings were pulled by communists. The McCarthy standin wasn't a calculated deceiver. He was a dupe.
The thing about Obama is he is motivated by socialism, just like the Joker was motivated by chaos or whatever, and instead of having some master plan for taking over the world, he's throwing every socialist scheme up against the wall to see what sticks. Which leads to chaos, because order (or the only sort of "order" anyone but the ruling class wants) in the economic world is represented by the free market.
"An individual or group can be destroyed, and all the Usual Suspects stand ready to Joe The Plumber/Carrie Prejean/Sarah Palin’s Family the artist(s) responsible for effectively turning the art-as-ideological-weapon tables. Oh, yes, they want a name…"
Hey, I've got your names right here moonbats. *Shows middle finger salute*
It's too late…you can't stuff the genie back in the bottle now. ➔ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk04-yi4HT0
Not Over.
Mr Nolte can be forgiven his incredulity…
However this should come as no surprise to anyone. For, as we have been saying for some time Dissent Will Not Be Tolerated.
Period.
So forget any fancy of fairness or equanimity. These folk have the power and intend to use it, public be damned…
I'm still trying to figure out how it is racist? I mean that in a literal, not a politically correct sense. I know the answer, and that is that any dissent towards the great and messianic Obama will be labeled as racist. You don't think the Dems nominated this guy with that in mind?
Actually the Joker in "The Dark Knight" is extremely controlling. In the scene with Dent "Two-Face" in the hospital room, the Joker says he is a dog chasing a car, he doesn't have a plan, but that is as much a lie as how he got the scars. His escape from the jail was an elaborate plan. Same as the hostages and clowns in the tower. And ferry standoff. And the corruption of Dent. Or the attempt to corrupt all of Gotham. Just because he says it, doesn't make it so. Just like Pres Obama saying he doesn't prefer single payer health insurance, he won't have lobbyists in his administration, transparency, etc. THAT's why the slogan "socialism" is appropriate. He says isn't, but……
Has it not occured to you that Obama's trying to control everything leads to chaos? There's this big gap between socialism in practice and in theory. The former is never able to synthesize the efficiency that comes naturally.
I know Heath Ledger intentional aimed at chaos whereas Obama would be reaching it accidentally. But that's a small distinction. Plus, The Dark Night is a little muddled on the issue, in my opinion. The Joker says he doesn't like people with plans, but he has his own plans. Quite elaborate plans, I'd say. And when things don't go his way, as with the prisoner's dilemma, he ignores chaos and tries to bring about his own preordained end.
should we pull an "I am Sparticus"?
if hundreds of thousands of people turn them selves in as the poster maker what would hapen?
"I mean that in a literal, not a politically correct sense."
All that I can come up with is that white face and a wide smile somehow invokes memories of minstrel shows. Or is that still in a politically correct sense? It makes a little more sense than the most recent Joker being "urban," urban to white people meaning innercity minorities, who in turn invoke images of riots. But not much.
Bottom line is that the Joker is a clown, and clowns wear white make-up and have big, red smiles. But explaining this to outraged liberals is useless. They'll ask why, then, choose to compare Obama to a clown, as opposed to any other recent movie villain. Lord Voltemort, for instance. Clearly, the Joker was chosen because his look resembles minstrel shows. Not because The Dark Night was a good movie and the Joker was and always has been a cool character.
Unless of course you say anything "fishy" (whatever that means) about Obamacare….
That particular form of expression is apparently a no-no to this administration.
Ask "Law Enforcement." Most likely 15 to 20 with no time off for good behavior. Because that's what their Masters tell them we need. And they bow and scrape and then do whatever they're damn well told. Just like the German police under the Nazis. Their Leaders said it was legal, so they took care of the Jews. Welcome to Obamacare 2009! Sorry, old geezers. You didn't vote for Osama, so there is no medical treatment for you. Those fine Blacks from Philadelphia will be by to see you shortly. Don't mind their uniforms and weapons. Holder says they're fine people. It's wrong for you to act stupidly. After all, this is a teachable moment!
I am glad that someone is not kowtowing to the hate campaign of threats by liberals to squash dissent and truthtelling about obama
this is the kind of thing that must be used to maintain the American way of life
Real Americans can not rely on their elected politicians to do it – to many colin powells, spectre, collins, etc
way to go anon obama artist – America appreciates your work
Race is never far from the left's collective minds. So they assume it's never far from everyone's collective minds. In calling things racist, they often reveal their own latent prejudice, if not out right racism.
"By using the 'urban' makeup of the Heath Ledger Joker, instead of the urbane makeup of the Jack Nicholson character, the poster connects Obama to something many of his detractors fear but can’t openly discuss. He is black and he is identified with the inner city, a source of political instability in the 1960s and ’70s"
Identified with the '70s, perhaps, but not with black people. I don't remember runny make-up being part of popular black fashion. Has this guy never heared of Punk? Heath Ledger's was a punk Joker, and punk music is associated with white people. I thought liberals were supposed to be hip. Why do I have to explain this stuff to them?
well, then you can say it on an anonymous poster and drive 'the man' nuts, eh?
Yes, it is.
Sure we know who produced the Bush-as-Joker. Of course all he had to put up with was praise from his fellow liberals. What kind of 24/7 fire storm would the Obummer-as-Joker artist have to face? I hope we never find out.
Sure if that's the way everyone communicated with each other. It's the stuff people over-hear or read in an innocuous email that gets them in trouble with the thought police.
The creator of this poster should remain anonymous lest he be "Prejeaned"…
What you did not like those fine young men in a Black Panther uniform at the polling place at election time? Those night sticks were there to point the way thats all.
[...] Leave it to some journo-hack to say the posters are ‘RACIST’!!! OMG! I thought we were all in a post-racial society with Obama’s election right up until his beer drinking buddy, Henry Louis Gates, reminded us otherwise. [...]
You couldn't be more wrong.
It's BLACKFACE that is considered racist, NOT whiteface. If the Joker had been wearing blackface you might have a point….
–"Instead, the call was simply for the individual or groups slapping the posters up to publicly ID themselves and take credit for their work. Come forth and take public pride in branding the president a jokester and a socialist. "–
Why? So you can audit the artist fifty times and give him a public pilloring a la Joe the Plumber??
Oh, HELL no!!!! Every superhero protects his mundane identity!!!
I designed the Obama poster. Just kidding! But don't I wish. The thing about being called a racist over and over and over is that it begins to lose its sting. The libs and "state-run media" use it so much that it seems that the race card is their ONLY card.
"It's all part of the plan."
When a black Republican is portrayed as a clown or a Republican president as a vampire, the media, et al, does not care, because "it's all part of the plan." But if one, little ol' black Democrat president is put in joker makeup, everyone loses their minds.
Dang Tru thats so dead on its scary. The thing about Jack Napier (aka) The Joker is no one knows where he came from, for every story he tells about himself , he contradicts it with another. Does this sound familiar? What we know about Obama is what he has said himself. He fashioned a narrative and then has contradicted it from time to time. This has nothing to do with the idiotic birther movement. Guys he was born in Honolulu, nothing to see there. Stop distracting yourselves. It has everything to do with the contradictions in his books and what he has said all through out the elections. He isn't who he presents himself to be and he isn't the person we are told he is. And as far as his control leading to chaos yes, it has. He first threatens people with this health care crap (yeah he said he would do this and you people who are now regretting the vote you made were told) and then when people start saying oh no no no he ridicules and threatens them. This then leads to more chaos.
You are the Lone Ranger then
Accordind to the MSM everyone loves this march/sprint to Socialism
/sarc
To Yeah:
It wasn't Obama's boots that he was licking…..
Read the Post article, found it on the drudge. My impression was that I was reading an article by some spoiled child. It was only a matter of time before the racist card was pulled. It is like watching a one trick pony.
Something to consider. Pt 1
Stop focusing on the Joker's so called anarchy. He could have been calling for socialism, facism, marxism, UFO-ology, new age crystalism, it doesn't matter. His goal was to destroy the existing order and reshape it into his vision.
Think in terms of methods. Money at best was just a tool. A means to an ends that did not hold true value to him. Does everyone remember the O's dismissive response to the stock market collapse? Americans watched in horror as life savings went up in smoke, but the ever sophisticated One blithly responded he "was not concerned with the ups and downs of the market". Vast unsupportable deficits that will destroy our republic. A small price to pay for "social justice". Are these not the exact scenes symbolized by the burning pile of money?
Pt 2
And how did he treat the "little people" in his plans? He lied, manipulated, and played them against each other to advance his plans. Remember the man he claimed to heal, but whom he turned into a human bahm? What was O's goal of rallying all those people around the cry of change? Only now are some realizing how they have been used. The Joker created crises to distract his opponents or to control their actions. Remember Rahm's favorite saying about crises. The bank bail out? The stimulus? The health care bill?
Watch the movie. Watch the actions. Throughout the movie, we do not see the Joker's true face. Instead he wears a mask that expresses the mind beneath. Today, we are constantly being shown Obama's mask of calm soothing demeanor, but yet are never shown the mind lurking below. This poster pulls away that mask and shows us the face that actually matches the thoughts beneath.
There's an interesting idea.
We should all take credit for the poster!
Why doesnt the liberal ever say that ODAMA is half white……is black the color of the month, I can see his mother turning in her grave now , no credit for bring the messiah into the world to bring the choosen people (democRATS) to the promise land "DC"
This is just another reason why I canceled my paper subscription to WaPo a year ago. They still call about once a month with an offer, but I respond the same way every time, "I wouldn't wipe my a** with that rag."
The Washington Post states that "urban" means black. That, my friends, is severely racist and ignorant.
Urban means city, (as in the biblical city of Ur). And I believe Obama grew up on the beaches of Hawaii but the Liberals associate him with the word "urban" because of the color of his skin.
Now they're accusing the artist of using "Urban make-up." WTF is urban make-up? The Jack Nicholson version was 20 years ago. Why would the artist use that one?
If the fellow who did 'jOker' outs him/herself, there's a chance that all of those tolerant, peace loving, artsy types just might do something hurtful to the individual that so defaced their president. As shameful as that sounds, this is the party of union thugs.
don't you think he knows it? This guy's experience would make Mark Furhman's ordeal look like nursery school… expect more 'guerilla theater' in the coming weeks…
Here's another example of how all this applies to Batman. The Joker wanted Batman to take off his mask and killed people to make him do it. I wonder how far those tolerant liberals will go to get this artist to take off his mask??
Don't do it man!! Don't give in to the bad guys!!!!
I sure hope he does know it.
Can't wait for a follow-up!!
And I thought the Bush/Joker picture was just an incredibly accurate portrait of Keith Richards…
"What are we going to get?"
more ammo…..
I am not racist, I just hate Obama because he is a radical, muslim-friendly socialist!
"Instead, the call was simply for the individual or groups slapping the posters up to publicly ID themselves and take credit for their work."
I admit it… I am Spartacus.
Fellow Citizens: Join me on the roof top this evening, and every subsequent evening, to shout "God Is Great!" until The Joker is driven from office.
Someone should write the Obama snitch line at Flag@WhiteHouse.gov and complain.
Wow, very well said….
I AM SPARTACUS!!!!!!
Keith Richards is much more pale….
I think Philip Kennicott is the real Joker. Clearly he hasn't won many medals for his debating skills.
I'm not racist, i hate everybody equally. The image is nothing more than symbolism of our currently president. It has nothing to do with race. Obama is just as much white as he is black and i personally don't care what race he is. He is however an untrust worthy individual.
"Unless of course you say anything "fishy" (whatever that means) about Obamacare…."
You ain't kidding with that one. His and the Democrats reaction to the public outcry has been bizarre on an epic scale. In particular, Obama's response to naysayers has been almost irrational. I really think this guy could become "unhinged" in the face of a real criticism……He's one scary Liberal………….

I would love to see him completely lose his mind during a press conference. Just a few well-placed questions on his healthcare disaster would do the trick…
I have information that the Obama/Joker poster is the work of 4chan.
NO ONE can take on 4chan and hope to win. Anonymous is almighty.
Thanks, I try. Now if I can come up with the guts to put up some posters around my town.
Heh heh.
We didn't whine much about it for the past eight years. What makes you think that we'll start now?
I was thinking that myself…..
Wow, if that's true then this administration is gonna have it's hands full.
From Mr. Kennicott's Post article:
"That drawing at least played into a view of Bush popular among his detractors, that the former president was unpredictable and fast on the draw when it came to geopolitics."
Mr. Kennicott, try and spread out your manure a little just a little in an effort to mask its idiocy. If Bush was "quick on the draw" he was not "unpredictable".
How is having a dissenting (one that differs from the administration) racist.
Why is it liberal media does not show all the portrayals of bush.
Chevy Chase lampooned Ford (on television week after week) – but this is racist…
NO OBAMA(nation) is a socialist/marxist – the joker is what he is because he said one thing and did another…
"the boss told me to get rid of him whe he was done so we wouldn't have to split the loot."
"Funny he said the same thing to me…"
That's from the movie – it's not so funny now that it's real life and the Demorats are in running up ridiculous tabs on the AMERICAN TAXPAYERS BACKS…
No . . . I'M SPARTACUS!!!
So an acceptable likening would be to Hitler or Stalin? Funny that the MSM hadn't any heartburn over the endless references to Bushitler.
BTW – Bush post 9-11 was the one who kept this country from spiraling into panic, chaos and anarchy. I know. we are not supposed to talk about that.
You know what chaos and anarchy is – it is when the ordinary citizens decide that the watchman, thieving, freedom robbing government hacks are not to be suffered any longer.
The guillotine was invented during the French Revolution.
Ok, stop it–I made the Dear Leader-As-Joker poster.
The differences between The Joker in the movies and comics and the "joker "who sits in the White House are trivial and insignificant and more a matter of style than anything that negates the brilliance of the poster. Both The Joker and "Il Dufe" believe in initiating force to use their ends. One's an outlaw, who uses illegal force; the other is a "liberal fascist" who uses legal force. (As far as I know: a constitutional scholar might disagree.) Both like to use coercion to reshape society according to their own respective visions of what society should be like. In The Joker's case, that's chaos; in "Il Dufe's" case, that's a planned society–which as Von Mises showed, leads to "planned chaos."

Hopefully without the iconic homoerotic imagery of Tony Curtis in a short toga, though.
The MSM lapdogs won't ask those questions because they're afraid that is exactly what will happen.
That's what I was thinking. I remember seeing the Bush/Joker image and just thinking, "Well, that's really tacky", then going on with my day.
My wife's reaction was that it probably hurt Laura's feelings to see her husband treated like that.
Neither one of us spent any time editorializing about it or calling liberals names. Well, new names, anyway.
Just pray you never need a cardiac catheterization. There'll be a "list" all right…
LOL. And they keep calling? I guess they don't keep a "list", anyway.
I doubt it's true, insofar as 4Chan is divided pretty much evenly along political lines. Dubya got a lot of s__t from them, but so does Obama. I don't know that they'd create a poster like this, or plan a widespread distribution thereof. I'm sure there are a large proportion of Anonymous who voted for Obama, although many of them probably regret it by now.
Either way, if the current leadership in Washington makes an assault on free speech that's any less subtle than those that have already been tried, I guarantee these 'underculture' sites like 4Chan will absolutely explode with rage. When you come right down to it, their allegiance is not to any political party but to a very libertarian cause, namely: "No corporation nor government nor establishment of religion, nor any other faceless entity, has the right to order me around at will, or to threaten retribution if I refuse their demands." And they fight back against such things by becoming a faceless entity in their own right, which protects them from being individually singled out for retribution — it's the old 'none of us is as strong as all of us' routine.
Hmmm…interesting. I wonder what the MSM would do with an "ObamaHitler" image? Obama wearing a brown shirt with a little Charlie Chaplin mustache. Would that somehow also be "racist"?
Anyone out there with Photoshop need a project for this weekend?
I really don't want that thing staring back at me from my computer screen.
He's already there almost every time I turn on the T.V.
Settle down, everyone. It was the one-armed man!
I do have a long plane ride coming up…..
I do have a long plane ride coming up. I'll need something to do to keep myself occupied.
Revealing themselves would be the fair and gentlemanly thing for the creator of the Dear Leader-as-Joker poster to do. It would show that libertarians and conservatives are open, tolerant, fair-minded, and willing to reach across the political aisle to open an honest dialogue. Taking credit for the Joker poster would show that we on the right play by the rules, and will not dirty our hands, unlike our opponents in the Democratic Party.
Screw all that. The struggle against the Dear Leader is not a chivalrous contest, something the oppostion understands. All who oppose the Dear Leader and His policies need to understand that, and act accordingly. (John McCain never did.) Putting up anonymous posters undercutting the quasi-dive image of the Dear Leader is perfectly acceptable, and coming forward to be pilloried and destroyed in the name of some out-dated qualms about fairness is foolish. I urge everyone on here to come up with their own anonymous "guerilla art". It may not be as brilliant as the Joker poster, but it will do its part to undermine the Dear Leader.
I think there's a good point made in this article as to why Obama critics like to remain anonymous. These guys on the left are scary! They really, really have a lot of hate inside themselves, and it shows more than ever. I mean, who'd have thought that people who advocated abortion on demand could be so bloodthirsty! Oh, wait…

better not complain next time we do it to you.
Next time? The left has been pulling this for the past 8 years and even after Obama and a Democratic majority got elected they still didn't stop and then the White House and Congress piled on. Now someone hits them back with a play out of their own book and they scream like 2 year olds. So please spare me your warning, liberals will never stop being thin skinned sanctimonious hypocrites, it's what they are and we expect it.
One poster appears on the dirty strut of a single LA freeway – and the Left explodes in hate and rage, screaming that they want the guy responsible.
Geesh, guys, chill out. You'd think this was a cartoon of Allah.
I wonder how they would respond to a billboard.
CogNutCase, as always, you play the role of braindead full to the utmost degree. In case you missed it DUMBARSE, you are complaining. YOUR PARTY IS COMPLAINING. Your HYPOCRACY is showing, and no sign of the Bush Joker thing ever making it remotely this far into the news. So please, SHUT THE HELL up anc crawl back into your slimy hole.
