‘jOker’: When the Left’s Scared They Scream ‘Racist’
by John NolteNaturally those who enjoyed (and created) all the “art” and pop culture used to demonize and dehumanize George W. Bush (whoops!) are now crying “racism” with the turning of the tables. They’re worried, and this hollow cry is all they got because who knows better the power of this kind of imagery than those who have been using it for decades to further their goals of enslaving entire populations under the cruel yoke of Big Government.
Yesterday, when the “L.A. Weekly” went all crybaby over the Obama-Joker poster, they must have known that they themselves had published a cover portraying Bush as a blood-thirsty vampire. But all’s fair in love and war and this is ideological war where hypocrisy is a weapon, not something to be ashamed of.
The Left wants Obama-Joker nipped in the bud, and their goal is to stigmatize it as something racist before it shows up on t-shirts all over the country — before it catches fire.
Like Zorro with his “Z,” this artist strikes anonymously — and who can blame the desire for anonymity. No one even knows who this person is (he or she might be an Obama fan who thinks the posters are cool), and already the “R-Word” has been thrown about. Imagine if this individual is found to be anti-Obama. Remember Politico digging up dirt on a private citizen who merely asked Obama a question; the coordinated attack on Sarah Palin’s family courtesy of Hollywood and the media? Hell, Carrie Prejean agreed with Obama on gay marriage and look what they did to her. No, anonymity is probably a good idea.
Here’s another reason to stay in the shadows — a political reason:
When Obama has no one to attack, he must address the issue of his socialist policies directly, instead of attacking critics (or more accurately, using the media to do it for him). Personally, I hope the artist is a little, old, African American lady from Compton.
Personally, I hope the first person to give me a hard time over my Obama-Joker t-shirt is wearing something Leftist-approved, like something found here. That kind of irony doesn’t come along every day.

Well said, Mr. Nolte! Sunlight is a great disinfectant.
Too bad that thell eventually find this person, the small print shops that make these plasterable prints are usually artsy fartsy shops. I don't know how he got the first batch printed, ohhhhh money… Good ol capitalism at work.
Re: the link to the "Che" store ("For all your revolutionary needs!")- Do you think I can get the Che bobblehead with bulletholes or do I have to add them myself?
Socialism cannot exist in a truly free society. Either we maintain our freedom, or we lose it. The choice is up to all Americans which path we will forge. This poster should serve as a reminder of that simple truth.
May you find what your looking for here…

I'm going to go out in a few minutes with the ObamaJoker pic GooDDaddy provided, and make a bunch of stickers at Staples.
Criticism of Conservatives = Thoughtful Dissent; Criticism of Liberals = "Dangerous & Mean-Spirited." Welcome back, Mr. Orwell!

I'm pleased to say it's too late. This image will be carpet-bombed over the US lanscape from sea to shining sea.
"The 'Racist' tag is really becoming shopworn, it's been used in vain, oh, say a million times or so"
a few years ago a young lady stole a car and drove it into a daycare center in the Dallas area. Many of the children in the center were injured. The majority of the children were also black. The citizenry got upset that the girl was not going to get charges placed on her. The community brought out their Ministers and Civil rights leaders to decry the unfair treatment. But the girl who caused the problem was also black. Her family brought out therir ministers and civil rights leaders. The uproar disappeared over night
This is a tactic straight from a play book. But they can be countered, if we use they playbook too.
Obama's campaign was built on idolizing imagery. It seems perfectly appropriate to criticize him with imagery. What is obvious is that the things the leftists hate the most, the things that hit the bullseye, ie. Palin and now this Obama/Joker image, are the ones that we need to push until they can't take it anymore.

OMG, that site is a riot! Thank you!!

What's the adage? "You know you're over the target when you start taking a lot of flak"?
Freedom of speech is a lovely concept, isn't it., LA Weakly?
Except when people disagree with you.
I have seen 'BusHitler' and 'Stop Bush' guerilla art posted hear and there in our town,
havent heard any outcry against the vandals.
It's about time for creative conservatives to use the arts and imagery to battle against socialism.
This is a great shot, and the LA Weakly's cry of racism means it is a direct hit.

"The Left wants Obama-Joker nipped in the bud…before it catches fire."
Too late! T-shirts are already available, and I've seen some people already using it as their BH avatar. I agree this artist should stay anonymous, let it spread and eventually die down, then hit with another image.
What the left has always understood, and FINALLY the right is understanding this, is the importance of a visual message. A consistent, easy to recognize icon that allows the viewer to get the message in less than a second is vital to any political point of view. Liberals have beat us over the head with their Che t-shirts or Obama bumper stickers. But now we have our icon. I say reproduce it. Make t-shirts, bumper stickers and hats. Hell, use it as your Facebook profile picture. But flood the culture with this image – liberals be damned.
and when they do it, it's all cool because they CAN'T be racist. Here's liberal commentator Daniel Kurtzman's depiction of GOP chair michael steele as a clown:
http://garychapelhill.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/mo...
Black politicians have to take cruel jokes same as white politicians. That's called equality.
I think there is a better solution than playing by their rules. There is only one thing to do when the rules are set up so you must become your enemy or lose.
From the "Sarah Palin is Captain Kirk" post.
"Then, as Sarah Palin announced her resignation, it hit me. Sarah Palin is Captain Kirk. Why? Because she just passed the Kobayashi Maru."
Change the game.
Go to some articles, don't read the articles just read the comments. The commenters on the peoples cube are the funniest thing on the net.
sure, but when you know the play book it makes it easier to change the game
I love it. It's fresh and fun. If it's ok to post images of the previous president as a vampire, monkey, devil; it's certainly ok to post an image as the joker that he is. Over the centuries artists have depicted elected officials in various fashion and this gave me a laugh.
Thanks again. I'm going to spread the word!
This is as American as Apple Pie, Boston Tea Party, Jazz and Baseball. It is the way we protest, and it is catching fire. =-)
I hereby request the next one is Pelosi as the Riddler. She has the maniacal smile down pat.
Yeah trying to supress this image now would be like try to get pee out of a kidee pool. Good luck with that. I find this whole hoopla over this image amusing as a couple weeks ago I watched the HBO documentary on Free Speech. In it they show how people got supressed for their speech. It was not the people or the issues they championed that I find interesting.
It was after watching it I was thinking what would be the new "sacred cow" in the Obama era? Like this article shows the left made a living out of demonizing Bush. They thought he was so bad that Obama had to be the salvation. So now that Obama is in the same position as Bush and is suppose to be the "anything but Bush policy" president. What happens when he gets demonized for his actions? Now we are starting to see that played out and the only defense is to cry racism at every turn.
John – The first two sentences are spectacular writing.
Also, if the artist did a set, it would defuse the lame "racist" cry.
Barney Frank as the "Penguin"? Maybe.
What's a good Batman villain for Harry Reid?
Freedom of speech.I defend the the right of leftists to say what they want now they should give the right the same courtesy.
Props to the anonymous artist. It's clever, striking, and not racist whatsoever. The left usually has a lock on political art, so this must be especially galling for them. Tough noogies.

Liberal/Dem = HYPOCRITE
Excellent column and excellent poster. And I'm not joking.
"The Surrender Monkey". Was he a Batman villian?
Does Your Computer Automatically Capitalize Every Word? Makes It Very Hard To Read Your Comments . . . .
Every day of PEBO's administration is another nail in the coffin of liberal socialism.
Leftists don't "give" anybody rights. Individuals DEFEND rights from leftists!
I think this poster marks an actual turning point in the political fight against Barack Obama and his big government policies. This is a direct shot at the man who would be king and it shows people that he is no longer above being mocked by regular people. Even if the person who posted it isn't a republican or a conservative, they have done something that would not have been done several month's ago. Good job, now on to defeat his ultra-leftist policies.
It is, that web site is so funny, it makes my head hurt. I can only take it once in a while, or else I get sucked in and waste the entire day on it.
I'm glad this came along becuase the "Hope" parodies were getting a little tired.
In order to maintain a truly free society you have to be able to stomach what is wrong, but not obscene. This is a wonderful example of the left as it truly is. Freedom for the select few, tyranny for the rest of us.
Just a Writing Style blue31…but Thanks for the Tip.
How about on the bottom of the poster, instead of Socialism, you put the word Resist. Would that work? What about other slogans?
The reason the left refers to this as racists is because that's their default position on all opposition. I actually had a modern liberal try to convince me that because he was a registered democrat that was proof he wasn't a racist, and because I wasn't, it was proof I was a racist.
Over all, Personally I don't like the poster. Kind of ghoulish. But that's just me. If I don't appreciate something that's no reason others can't.
Absolutely correct. They've been called out for what they are, and they cannot stand it.
Good point. Agree.
He can just be one of the Riddlemen.
I can see that happening very easily to me (she says as she has People's Cube open in another tab…)
Somewhere out in L.A. there is a beautiful mind! I want this on a T-Shirt, maybe with the "Buck FObama?" mantra?
"Some men just like to watch the world burn . . ."
I think I am more interested in WHO tagged Las Angeles and Atlanta with these pictures. Was it a bunch of angry, rich, middle-aged white men running around LA in the middle of the night wearing hoodies, holding a roll of duct tape and hiding from the Po-Po in their mid-sized luxury sedans??? Stranger things have happened……….

Maybe "Village Idiot?"
Actually "Why so Socialist?" would fit right in with the Joker icon.
by the very act of my blog entry on the gates incident, the truth peppered with my tasty secret sacrasm sauce, i was called a racist this week. it was also pointed out to me that i am white AND a woman, thereby, i suppose, confirming my inherent racism. i wear that stupid (not a mere act of ignorance) blind obamabot's spew (by every other name, a troll) attack as a badge of honor.
This is excellent. Not only is the artist stating what we already know, he's forcing the cockroaches in the media into a frenzy of name calling and hypocritical ranting with just a taste of their own medicine.
I love it….
How long before the "Buck Farrak" bumper stickers are out?
When I first read the Left-wing crank who called this bit of guerrilla art "dangerous", I couldn't help but wonder which they meant, consciously and sub-consciously: "This act of rebellion will have consequences for the nation," or, "This act of rebellion will have consequences for the artist."
A Che store powered by capitalism. Oh, the irony.
Remember when the Dark Knight came out and some dip from some magazine lamely compared Bush to the Joker? In response, conservatives replied in a reasoned, well-mannered response that Bush had more in common with Batman than anything else–he bent the rules in order to catch the Joker and he was villified by the very people he protected.
What's the best response the left can come up with?
WHY, TH-TH (SPUTTER) THAT'S RACIST!
They got nothing and they know it.
Whenever im called a racist I pull out my 1/8th Cherokee trump card. lol
Exactly…..
As soon as they drop the R word you know they're shooting blanks….
You can't have a liberal Catwoman, because none of them are sexy enough to pull it off.
For the left, free speech depends on whose Ox is getting gored.
http://www.vanityfair.com/online/politics/2008/07...
Face it; it's no longer cool or hip to be a liberal. They're followers of the leftist establishment all!
Using the Joker face to expose Obama for the ass-clown that he is is a stroke of genius!
Don't let the state-run media bury this. I plan to copy and paste that poster everywhere to expose the truth.
Just ordered 2 of the quad-poster T-shirts. And yes, I will wear them.
Another thought . . . Wouldn't it be priceless if this poster was actually created by a liberal artsy-type who thought that Obama looking like the joker was so 'cool' and he just wanted to show everyone how "cool" Obama is. Instead it becomes the Icon of the Rebellion! ha ha!
Agree with all of you. It's a riot. And yes, I can't go to it too often b/c it would take days and days to really get through it. And unlike the liberals, I have a job!
Harry Reid as The Scarecrow?
There should be some sort of theme. Pelosi can be a riddle, a devout Catholic who went to see the Pope but is pro-abortion. Hillary could be Catwoman, sometimes friend, sometimes foe, ultimately just a sidekick.
Otherwise, Barney Frank could be Mister Freeze, I did hear in the Batman and Robin movie the character looked gay, and Barney might enjoy the outfit. Of course Barney has done lots of things that leave normal people frozen in their tracks with disbelief.
"Yeah trying to supress this image now would be like try to get pee out of a kidee pool."
Thank God I was done with my lunch or it would be all over my laptop! That was great imagery!
How about a line from the first Batman with Jack Nicholson as Joker….
"Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
Maybe a bit wordy
Drawing inspiration from the classic scene in Spartacus,
I'm… snicker… the One!
It requires a truly warped mind to interpret the Obama-Joker poster as racist. I could understand criticisms such as being disrespectful and in bad taste, but racist? When will it become impossible to issue any criticism of Obama without being branded a racist, I wonder–hopefully not anytime soon.
By the way, what's TOTUS stand for? Teleprompter blah blah blah? Just wondering.
Heh heh that would be a trip. I do think, though, this is being perpetuated by somebody who knows the score, judging from the word "Socialism" lingering under the visage. Then again, our hero could've gotten a hold of the picture and added his two cents later…
Either way, this is still funny as hell.

No. It is I! I am Spartacus!
(tee hee)
Bullet holes included, but you can still shoot it yourself if you prefer.
And let's not forget Arlen Specter as Two-Face.
'TOTUS'
'Teleprompter Of The United States', David Axelrod sole proprietor.
I'm Spartacus!
Aside from the fact that the Joker wasn't a socialist, and the Joker never pretended to be someone else, the posters are correct. That is, they make no sense. Sure, it's a cute picture, but sticking "SOCIALIST" on it is a big fail. "RESIST" or "HOPE" would make some sense and be funny. "SOCIALISM" is just dumb. Maybe it's some kind of weird anarchist stunt, but the conservative embrace of the nonsense is even weirder.
Remember, we liberals aren't anywhere near as sensitive about Obama as you conservatives were about Bush, and still are, to a manic degree, about Palin. If you put up dumb posters, of course we'll laugh at how dumb they are, but we really don't care if you put them up — ON YOUR OWN PROPERTY. Remember the respecting property rights thing?
I love the image of Obama Joker. It says it all in a way mere words fail. I think the floodgates of skepticism just opened and may drown Obama's socialistic plans. Expect more to come and liberals may whine, but it won't stop the juggernaught of change Obama didn't hope for. Obama's approval rating is dropping like a hot rock through butter at the poles. __If your opponent is quick to anger, find out what irritates him most and use it often. – Sun Tsu – Art Of War.
Liberal definition of "racism": treating people of different races the same.
I tell you what is racist – we have a half black president who we call black, and yet Affirmative Action is still law.
The liberal left will never stop playing race politics.
I can't wait for the conservatives and good minded people to start calling BULL CRAP and demanding the firing of politicians who promote their racism.
And let's start with Pres. Obama for calling the Cambridge Police officer stupid for doing his job.
Oh, that is good. That is VERY good! Awesome!
Personally, I'm waiting for a poster of Michelle. Then again – she wouldn't need one. If anyone has looked at a picture of the the hate lasers coming from that woman's eyes, they wouldn't need a Joker poster to be afraid, be really afraid.
"Remember, we liberals aren't anywhere near as sensitive about Obama as you conservatives were about Bush . . . "
Are YOU the Joker?
"Remember, we liberals aren't anywhere near as sensitive about Obama…"
Excuse me? You want sensitive, here's sensitive:

Thats how Obama says f- you
Cafe Press have the T-shirts with this image. I bought two!
The LA WEEKLY – A "penny dreadful" minus the penny.
All that is needed now is someone to add a little audio to the poster where the Obama-Joker states: This country deserves a better class of socialist, and I'm gonna give it to them. It's all part of the plan.
Brother's Keeper…Spread the wealth…
Almost like Ayn Rand saw this coming!
Vanity Fair did Bush as a Joker last year. Outrage? No.
che's still dead.
Agreed
The LA Weekly is one of the only liberal outlets that's worth anything. They go after our Democrat Mayor harder than they go after Bush. Sometimes however as in this column and the Bush cover they go dreadfully wrong.
I am a little scared for the guy who came up with Obama as Joker. If they ever find him, he can count on his life being torn apart and his safety (and his loved ones safety) being threatened. Yeha, maybe more than a little scared.
BTW – This story was at the top of my Google search for Obama Joker poster. So when we Conservatives cry about being blocked by Google etc. it's not always true…it's more important to write articles like this than worry about getting blocked by some nefarious scheme.
Where can I buy a shirt!?!?!?!
