First off, many, many thanks to the readers, especially those who contribute to the lively and engaging community on the comment boards. You have made this site addictive long after the regular content’s been consumed.
But nothing would be possible without the generosity and talent of our growing family of writers. For six months we’ve been blessed with some of the best content anywhere — thoughtful, articulate, persuasive, lively, witty, passionate, respectful, informed content. This site was created as your forum but in exchange your voice has offered so much more in return.
I speak for everyone here when I say that the pleasure that comes from reading Big Hollywood is only matched by the pleasure that comes from knowing and working with its contributors.

John – thank you for your part in running BH – I have become addicted to this web site – coming in – 5-6 times a day? The writing is superb and thought provoking – and I particularly like the "insider's" view of Hollywood and the theater community – From the war correspondent Michael Yon to Robert Avrech's knowledge of Old Hollywood – this place is addictive!

As somebody who is sick of the auto-Oscar-nomination for hollywood garbage, I can't tell you how refreshing it is get quality artistic critique without leftist ideology.
It's not rocket science but Big Hollywood is a blast. A much needed antidote to the leftwing universe of dim stars. Thanks.

My answer to VF (and more!)
I was introduced to this site a couple of months ago when a friend said, "Check it out! Dwight Schultz is a conservative!" We had suspected it, but Dwight made it plain in his own words. Now, I check in every day, several times a day. All the contributors are good, but I really look forward to Gary Graham's columns. The man doesn't mince words when sticking it to the socialists and other assorted ne'er-do-wells who would see this country go down in flames.
I check this place at least once a day. You see, there is a market for news and editorials, just not liars from the left.
Thanks Big Hollywood, for a rare six months of sanity mixed with celebrity.

I like to think of BH as the anti-Huffington Post. This site and NewsBusters are my favorite political blogs. While I do visit the Huff n' Puff occasionally, but it makes me sick after a short period of time. The posts on BH are far superior, but the HuffPo has so many more posts. (Mostly me too group-think type posts) I guess this is probably because the libs always have more free time (utopian college professors & their students, suspended union teachers, welfare leeches, coffee shop hippies & all those paid volunteers at ACORN). Keep up the good work my fellow conservatives.

Thanks for the great site. It's a real pleasure contributing to it. Sites like this are much needed. We need counter arguments to the so called counter-culture which is now the oppressive establishment.
As a BH reader from Day One and a regular commenter, I say thanks for the wonderful site. It's the only place I comment at and I appreciate the fact that when the Commentariat agrees a writer sucks, doesn't belong here, etc, they cease posting. I know you guys read the comments, but unlike so many other larger blogs, you actually pay attention to what works and what doesn't – happy half-birthday – you're right next to HotAir and Drudge as my favorite place to visit.

No – Thank You Sir! Over the last six months BH has become the "go to" site for witty and informed commentary on both show biz and politics. Your articles are real gems that are smart, well-argued and (most welcome of all) intended for actual grown-ups. All in all a welcome and necessary haven from the tsunami of bilge pumped out by the MSM.
I, too, am here every day. This past weekend, I suddenly could not access the comments in any way, shape or form. Fortunately, my husband figured out it was one of the three different security software products he so over-protectingly put on my laptop. I was truly going through withdrawal – I NEED to read other readers' comments. I'm feeling much better now.

Okay, that may be the elevator shoes, but speaking in terms of insight too. And Melvin Breitbart, or whatever the hell his name is, has assembled one of the most entertaining and intelligent rosters of reprobates ever to comment on the arts. I'm actually serious about this: Breitbart, Nolte and Big Hollywood have changed the rules of the game and started a brand new discussion. This isn't a pebble dropped in a pond, sending out ripples; it's more like a boulder tossed into a lake, making waves. Well done – and ever upward.
Happy 1/2 Birthday! Entertainment doesn't have to have a knee jerk left-wing point of view to be transcendent. Congratulations for making that critical point for anyone to see.

I first heard about BH "coming soon" sometime in autumn of 08 after changing radio stations and catching an interview with one of you guys, John?, talking about coming out of the shadows, or taking the risk, or b-slapping S Penn, or something. A seed was planted, or the subliminal message worked. I remembered, waited, looked, and found you guys! Protein Wisdom made me a little dizzy, so I kept coming back to watch you grow. Looking forward to the 1.0 celebration. Now, is there any cake left?

Interestingly, this week also marks exactly one year since Mr. Nolte’s old stomping ground, Libertas, went on a “brief summer hiatus”—and never came back. Just out of curiosity, whatever became of those folks?

I'm gonna cut a candle in half, buy a package of Hostess cupcakes, and use one to wish us happy half-birthday!

As one of the (legal!) immigrants from Libertas and Dirty Harry's Place, I'll offer my congratulations.
Truth be told, DH's Place was a bit more tight-knit and most of the people seemed to be genuine movie buffs. Plus we had hot photos of actresses and how-to columns and a "Hollywood Good Guy/Gal of the Day" column and a cool little DVD library with Amazon links.
But it'll be interesting to see where BH is in six months or a year from now. Strap in and enjoy the ride!
P.S. I certainly don't mean anything personal by this but, as a moderate, some of the more, shall I say, zealous comments scare me… but only sometimes.
Other comments (especially those by LawHawk, AndrewPrice, etc.) are quite good and educational. I've learned a lot here.
There are too many writers here. Can't get to know them all like we knew Dirty Harry. Nolte should shoot for at least a third of the postings here. Breitbart should understand this.

I really enjoy reading as much as I can find time for on BigHollywood. It ‘s like reaching out and grabbing a little bit of sanity in these twisted times we're living through. The internet is like panning gold in a wild river stream where every once in a while a person can find a real nugget. You guys are pure gold.

BH fits a need. There are a bunch of people out there who love film and good acting but who are fed up with being sucker punched with liberal propaganda in the movies. BH gives us a heads up when that's coming so we can either avoid the movie or take a healthy dose of Maalox. Mostly I avoid propaganda; I get enough of it from "mainstream" DNC "media".
Congrats- now try and get more actors in Hollywood who want to be able to write for BH…

The great thing about Big Hollywood is that not only are the contributors good, but the comments are awesome, especially from the regular posters. The regulars also show a lot of class when dealing with the demented trolls on the board.
6 months is about a work season in TV, I think, so the .5 anni is appropriate. Well, like the "Magnificent Seven" character said "…once knew a guy who jumped out a 10 story window, he kept saying as he passed each floor–so far, so good…". Congrats to all; keep going.
…until the comments start getting messed up. Been noticing multiple copies of the same comments on some of the bigger threads. Very annoying.
Look forward to my daily doses of BH along with everyone else on here. Thanks Andy for the site – thanks John and Alex for keeping it top notch. Some great commentor's on here: LawHawkSF – who I still want to call LadyHawk – AndrewPrice and dcase are my three personal favorites. Thoughtful, responsible (and sometimes funny) insight is what keeps me coming back – above and beyond some really great authors who contribute.
