I Come to Praise Bill Maher, Not to Bury Him
by John NolteAs recently as a few hours ago, my buddy Jimmy Arone joined many on this site in giving Bill Maher a well-deserved thrashing. But I’m feeling a responsibility to give credit where credit is due. Maher may be a leftist ideologue, but when he’s not getting what he wants, at least he lashes out equally. No sacred cow is President Obama:
–
My favorite part of that video is the quick shot of Chris Matthews. Even as he plays trained seal, his eyes betray a man dying slowly inside as Maher savages the thrill up his leg.
Now, we can nitpick and say that at times Maher’s been harder on Bush, but there’s no ignoring the fact that Obama’s taking some withering fire there. This probably won’t satisfy those upset at the glaring double standard we’re seeing from television “comedians,” but I find it unrealistic to want Maher or any leftist comedian go after Obama in the same way they went after Bush. They like Obama, they hate Bush. What do you expect? Had someone lost their mind and handed me a Late Night show, I’d be just as biased. For instance, there’s no way I’d ridicule Sarah Palin or Carrie Prejean. I admire them too much. Nancy Pelosi, however…
Because my beliefs and values are more in line with people on the right, there’s nothing all that funny about them. I relate to them — even to what everyone else finds funny. Sure, President Bush strangles a word now and again, but have you heard me on the radio? When I see Sarah Palin, I see my wife; in Dick Cheney I see the Dark Knight, not Darth Vader; and if you know Bill O’Reilly, you’ve met my dad.
Would this make me guilty of a double standard? Sure. And right now our present reality is that Jon Stewart, David Letterman and the cast of SNL feel about President Obama the way I do about Palin and Prejean … which is why God invented “Red Eye.”
What does gall me with these leftist comedians, however, is hypocrisy. To savage Bush over not doing enough about Global Warming while giving Obama a free pass is pure cowardice.
So at least for a few minutes over the weekend, Maher was no hypocrite and no coward.

I remember reading this in his written column (does he always parrot one on the other? Great way to make double salary), and there as here I remain perplexed as to what Maher and other Obamaniacs really think.
Seriously, this guy gets in office and is tremendously incompetent. He backtracks on every one of his promises he doesn't openly negate. He fills his offices with cronies, tax cheats, and lobbyists. But people like Maher aren't mad at him; they're mad at Republicans. They're mad that he's not "doing enough" – as if he has these grand ambitions, but is just too timid. When in reality what happened is he told everyone exactly what they wanted to hear, and is governing exactly as everyone who disliked him said he would: as a celebrity, only concerned with making himself look good as often as possible, and with no real position on anything.
Worse, the liberals don't see his inaction or embarrassing defeat on big issues as repudiation of their idiotic beliefs, but as "he's not doing what I wanted". Gee, maybe what you wanted makes no sense? They see how the thugs around the world respond to Obama's "open dialogue" and they have nothing to say about it. Even Maher recites the BS list of 'crimes' and 'bad ideas' from Bush – notably, all the ones that Obama kept. These liberals seem completely divorced from reality.
While I'm glad to see Bill take some time to excoriate Obama he still pulls that idiotic safety ripcord of 'blame the Republicans'. Seriously, the line that the Republican Party is 'doing everything to get him re-elected' isn't just lame, it's completely disconnected with reality. Every day this moron spends in office, every day the Democrats have control, they lose ground to the Republicans. The swing has already happened – it just has to carry through to the polls. Yet people like Maher toe that line and pretend that because Obama got elected, the whole country hates Conservatism.
It's a bizarre mix of delusion and 'speaking truth to power'. But since Maher's high all the time, I'm not all that surprised.
Srsly, Obama, what are you waiting for? Take over some more freakin' companies, already!
It's fine and all that someone finally found the balls to make fun of Obama (shouldn't have been nearly this hard…) but are these the level of jokes that Maher usually tells? That was really very unfunny.
He's savaging Obama for not being enough of a Bolshevik? Somehow I'm not impressed.
What do you define as being "something worth championing?" I can't imagine anything that a moderate/conservative Republican Party could do that would even come close to satisfying Maher. Plenty of us think "Contract With America Part I" was just fine, and it brought the Republicans back into power. When they breached that contract and became Democrat Light, they started losing elections. So let's hear your plan, and we'll see if there's anything conservative in it at all for Maher to support. I'm not sure he even supports gay rights except as a way to zap conservatives.
Maher is just another nasty comic who used to be sort of funny. I wouldn't want him "on our side" any more than I would be thrilled by a sudden Letterman conversion.
I have my own troll! Seriously, thinking of how much satisfaction it gave you to barely glance at what I wrote and then write a completely idiotic reply … it brings me tears of joy. I must be touching a nerve, eh?
Not impressed by Bill (still a woman-hating pig). Much of what he said we saw during the campaign. President Obama was always just an empty suit. Now BM is enlightened. Maher just wants to be relevant again (not sure why he ever was). He is a complete media whore, constantly craving attention. One brief statement of truth about Obama changes nothing.
Please no more pictures him (three in one day is too much).
Perish the thought.
bato65 got it pegged right this Bum is suffering because he feels Obama's not taking the Country Left fast enough and he's trying to light a fire under his A$$ with his commentary. Bill Maher I've got no use for the Creep. You can keep him and his kind.
First off, I'm pretty sure that "Red Eye" isn't a creation of God– More like Loki.
The problem with the liberal comedians during the Bush years is that they willfully ignored the fact that Bush had to make tough decisions in response to difficult situations that had not existed previously. The contrast between his term and Clinton's was even acknowledge by Clinton when he publicly admitted that he wished he had been president during 9/11.
It emphasizes how Bush never whined about what he inherited.
On the content of Maher's bit: I think the country will be much better off if Obama continues to be the phony we all know he is, rather than being everything the Left wants him to be — his policies are awful enough without him delivering 100% of the big liberal wish list.
But I understand what John saw here — the most anti – (small "r") republican, and just plain un-American aspect of Obama is the "Dear Leader" treatment he receives from the (news and entertainment) media. Maybe this is an imporant, first, small crack in the cult-of-personality facade — and maybe it's a good thing that it came from the Left.
I thought Maher was a self-described libertarian.
I guess by "libertarian" he means a liberal who REALLY REALLY likes his drugs and prostitutes.
You cannot be fiscally conservative and 'socially progressive'. It's a myth. You have to pay for your 'socially progressive' programs somehow, and that destroys fiscal conservatism.
You'd never make it in politics because you lack basic common sense, and are entirely full of yourself. Essentially you're the type of person who wants to run things … and that's as far as you've thought it out.
Amen to that brother….amen to that…..
Obama's administration is like a bunch of drunken monkeys (and please its got nothing to do with his race) trying to put together a jigsaw puzzle……..
In other words a "Steaming pile of failure"……
" I already said I couldn't make it as a politician"
You then ran a self-aggrandizing checklist of "oh I wish these wonderful things would happen … but I'm just a dreamer" rhetoric. Get over yourself.
Gay marriage would not pump billions into our economy, it would increase the number of people receiving a tax deduction and cost more in health care.
In any case, it is not the role of a politician to bring about or deny any change to marriage. It's the role of society.
Thinking of the look on your face when Prop 8 passed (for the second time) is enough entertainment for me.
Maher being fiscally conservative and believing in a balanced budget is news to me, but I'll take your word for it. That's part of Contract With America I. Socially progressive. OK, as long as it means tolerance for multiple beliefs. Maher's hatred for all things religious may qualify him as left wing, but I don't see it as "progressive." If he truly believes in gay rights and equality, good for him. What's his stand on churches and synagogues that won't perform gay marriages? More jobs stateside? Contract With America I. Throw out special interests? Contract With America I. Who gets to decide what "unnecessarily" means when it comes to going to war? If conservatives and moderates get to decide, Maher won't be supporting that. Creative use of our resources is a great idea, but for the left (and Maher) that means wilderness treks and no coal or oil. He won't be supporting conservatives on that. Innovative solutions? OK, but everyone promises that. Turning conflicts into solutions sounds good, but when that isn't possible, Maher will never support a conservative position of doing what is necessary.
So I guess Maher will support the Republican party on balanced budgets, throwing out special interests, and encouraging more American jobs (real jobs, not government jobs), and the Democrats on everything else. I guess that's progress. It also sounds a lot like the Libertarian Party. Of course the Libertarians are neutral on religion, and Maher won't like that.
I have to agree with AthiestCon, I don't think you can be fiscally conservative and socially progressive. All the social programs have to be paid for. How do we get the money? Tax it and spend it.
I'll grant that you could allow "gay marriage" and legalize drugs without raising my taxes, but fiscal conservatives tend to also be social conservatives.
And something that seems to get left out is that to people like myself, life is more than just money. If I had to sell my soul to get a tax break…no thanks.
Well the new-age nitwit got it right. Can't say I'm surprised or impressed.
You know what I think is going on here? I think Maher has a weather eye on how the country is responding to Obama and he knows the honeymoon is over. He also knows that, so far, no comedians have dared to criticize his Oneness. So, wanting to be the guy out front, he's dipping his toe into Presidential commentary and seeing how it's received. Nothing he has said is that scathing or offensive– it sure as heck doesn't stoop to the level of what Letterman is throwing at Palin– so it's not really a big risk for him. But he can now put himself down as the guy who wasn't afraid of Obama when everyone else was still tiptoeing around. Kind of shrewd really– and I hate to give the guy that much credit.
Ole Billy boy needs Obama's teleprompter skills. He seemed to be having trouble with the big words.
Well said, Mr. Nolte.
Yeah like you people want Obama to be more radical left. Pull the other one, fruit loops.
"I Come to Praise Bill Maher, Not to Bury Him"
Can't you do both? Do the 2nd one first.
[...] a Libtard like Bill Maher, who is about as slimy as they come, a far left nutjob, and Obama slurper is getting tired of Hussein Obama on TV so much! Maher writes in his LA Times Op-eD whine that Obama is on TV even more than Vince, the Shamwow [...]
you nailed it right on the head
I see you went to Maher's charm school ricky boy. Again I've warned you not to talk about things you've never seen
Maher is a nobody. I pay no attention to him. I pay more attention to taking a piss then I do Maher LOL
good one liberatchy.
When I see Sarah Palin, I see my wife
Then thank your lucky stars, my friend. You married up.
Maher wants Obama to do more of what he's promised. So far that has been an unmitigated disaster. Not that Maher was ever credible as a libertarian, but he just destroyed what was left of his street cred. He also needs to wake up to reality. He is in a minority of fools. http://www.gallup.com/poll/120857/Conservatives-S...
I am not impressed by this man, Maher. Mr Nolte, he is as much a hypocrite now as he was last year. So what if the spoiled little boy scolds his daddy? He does so he can say he did. Big deal.
I notice you can't wait for something that was approved by the voters to be overturned because you don't like it. Hey can I sue to get Obama's election thrown out? The true liberal is coming out. Your all for people voting when they vote they way you want then if they don't you sue until you get the vote thrown out. Showing the what liberals are really about: frightening
Is it just me or is Maher starting to look more and more like Yoda?
Ricky please make sense when you hurl an insult or it isn't effective…oh wait that would be taking your "idiot troll" thing away from you and then what would you be?
Well, the topic was Bill Maher. When I get the guarantee that the ACLU and The Supreme Court won't find a way (like Canada) to turn gay marriage into a requirement of religious institutions, I'll relax. Until then, I will remain conservative and religulous. I do want to stand by that war, and if Obama continues to lead us down the path of weakness and accommodation, it may a funeral for all of us. The "lie" debate isn't worth discussing since it's been going on ever since the left decided that war is never necessary, so any reason for going to war must be a lie. The "war for profit" is also nonsense. It would have been a lot cheaper in both dollars and human lives simply to buy Saddam's oil supply and bribe him in hopes he would stop murdering his own people wholesale. And I resent you implying that I am so immoral as to believe that going into war for profit is ever moral. You need to come down off your moral high horse. You don't have a monopoly on morality. I got the memo that says that wind turbines produce a little more energy than hamsters on treadmills. Apparently, Ted Kennedy got the same memo.
Maher is the epitome of the left: ignorant, arrogant and an utter coward. Maher’s complaint is that Hussein hasn’t set the Constitution ablaze on the White House lawn. Then this vapid airhead babbles about Republicans accusing them of giving tax cuts to the rich, starting a preemptive war, deregulation and other nonsense. To be a liberal you have to lie to yourself or be so utterly incapable of reason and logic that you just parrot what your puppet masters tell you.
1) Tax cuts were given to every tax bracket. Bush also removed approx 40 million people from the tax rolls, which was a mistake.
2) Democrats voted for war and it was Bill Clinton that authorized regime change in Iraq; it was also during the Clinton years that liberals expressed their concerns over Hussein’s [the other Hussein] WMDs.
3) Deregulation occurred under Bill Clinton: 1999 Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act which repealed the Glass Steagall Act.
And the clown Maher trying to be “cool” with his bong reference, might as well yelled out “420 bro! Spikoli rules!”, instead sounded like a dork trying to be cool. What loser makes analogies to their drug use? The loser trying to endear himself to other losers.
When the Republican party shapes up to be something worth championing, Maher will be there in support.
Actually that's completely untrue (although not surprising to see a fan contort themselves to defend the douchebag). When the surge was happening (even when it began working), Maher was against it and twisted every incident possible to underscore why he felt it was a bad idea. I saw a dozen guests on his show (none of them Conservatives) tell him why he was wrong, then I saw him during a monologue assert that, "No one has been able to explain this to me." If you're too much of an ideologue and a moron to listen to Christopher Hitchens, then there is no hope for you.
Maher famously said that we should pull out of Iraq and let them kill each other because it's all they wanted to do (a pretty racist statement for a flaming Liberal who lies about his affiliations to sound cooler than he really is). The truth is, Vince, Maher would never give Republicans credit for anything because he's a scumbag who'd rather see people die than admit he was wrong. How often did he compliment Bush on the aid to Africa? Admit the truth….if they aren't surgically enhanced barely-legal girls with low self-esteem, Maher really doesn't care about anyone but himself.
Interesting take on it. I do think people are making too much of it. Maher is really just whining that Obama is not being liberal enough and he has to make sure he slaps the GOP to make sure we don't get to uppity. But I do believe that Maher is desprate to keep the "edgy" thing so he's done this to show how much he isn't beholden to anyone. Not that I belive it for one second.
Maher, like a lot of people, is for fiscally conservative, socially progressive politicians.
No he's not. It's not even a close call. Any policy he deems important (like Global Warming), Maher is happy to trash the entire economy and the survival of 3rd world nations to support it. We are in the middle of a decade of cooling, are having the coldest year in Chicago in decades, and he's screaming about the need to double our level of debt to make Al Gore even more rich. And you complain about war profits? Please…..
Try not to be to clever sparky you may hurt self. Notice you never did answer my question, nice way to blow it off.
Sorry John, you're usually spot on, but on this one I disagree. There's NOTHING good about Maher. A few short days ago he was mocking Sarah Palin and her daughter, so he's still nothing but a dim-witted, misogynistic tool of the left.
All Obama has to do is make a quick phone call, and Maher will be quickly co-opted back into the fold as one of his many (eager and willing) butt-boys.
PS Although I agree with his views about 85-90% of the time, next time you talk to your dad (O'Reilly) please see if he can just keep his mouth shut for just 15 seconds, one time, while a guest answers a question!! Please explain that it's not about HIM.
Well yes they were, they only started to scream about it to get us out of Iraq.
That horse your on is pretty high. I think you might break few ribs getting off it.
He's smarter then you.
a flaming Liberal who lies about his affiliations to sound cooler than he really is).
You also described Vince, two for one.
OK, I'll give him credit for making fun of Obama, but, it still isn't funny. Seriously, it was more of a shock that he made fun of him than it was funny. In fact, it kinda sucked something awful.
Can't we at least bury him up to his nose?
It's quieter that way.
"then" you?
Epic Fail, douchewhistle
The left hesitated about opposing a war that was so clearly necessary, for a few months. Then the old habits came back. A few could barely wait until September 12 to oppose the inevitable was that hadn't even happened yet., but most held out until they could start the "quagmire" and body count mantra. Thanks for patronizing me.
You said you can't speak for Maher. OK. I can't speak for Evangelical Christians, because I'm not one. So if you expected me to defend them, I'm sorry to disappoint you. I said you don't have a monopoly on morality, and either does anyone else. I objected to you implying a lack of morality in me because you don't agree with me on the Iraq War.
Best comment you've made tonight, Vince.
No one likes having to defend the indefensible.
Maher screeches to an increasingly smaller audience. He's like Lenny Bruce–without the laughs.
His 15 minutes are up……DING!
Rick Ross–defending the indefensible!
He has been a busy, busy little troll today hasn't he?
Spot on, Satan man!
Nos 1-3 are facts–of course, followed by the requisite ad hominem attack by Rick Ross.
Go back and read your posts you did say it. I'm not putting words in your mouth I'm going off what you said. You had a chance to answer me but instead you wanted to show me again how clever and witty you are. Now you've changed your answer. From what I've read you are a liberal, don't like Bush check, against the war on terror check, making fun of Christians check.
Sorry little ricky. Maher is "newspaper" smart. He reads the papers and the blogs of smart people, and then tries to fob off their thoughts as his own. He ain't fooling anybody.
He’s nothing but a dim-witted parrot. I bet even you could do it.
BTW, is Maher one of the funniest looking creatures anybody's ever seen or what? I mean, how would you describe that face. Maybe the "Jeep" from the Popeye cartoons, or maybe the "Mole People" from planet of the apes. Whatever it is, it ain't human.
[...] I Come to Praise Bill Maher, Not to Bury Him [...]
It's "he's smarter than" not then, dumbass.By the way, my stool contains more intelligence than maher or you. .
Chitownman, I will never understand why anyone gives these demented and dimwitted malcontents on the left any credibility whatsoever. It's raining and drizzling here in L.A during summertime- with cold weather- and these glue sniffing neanderthal wannabes are having hysterics over CO2, which we exhale. Historians will refer to this period as the age of stupidity.
As for Obama's overexposure in the press, Maher isn't saying anything that smart and honest people haven't been saying for more than a year. His opinion is lame and late and it doesn't matter. As for everything else, health care, etc. it’s just the same old liberal claptrap.
Maher is a fool, and a pretty stupid guy to boot!
PS You've just got to love his stupid audience members. Maher could say, "Blah, blah, blah, oink, oink." And they would cheer and applaud wildly. As Bugs Bunny might say, "What a bunch of Maroons."
When I was living in SoCal, a few years ago I got tics to see Mr. Maher.
I had to give my cell up at the door.
Was told if we did not laugh and made any other responce to his jokes we would be 86ed by two thugs.
I think Mr. Maher is counting his chips and hope he is not exposed for jokes he made on the same topic as Mr. Letterman.
Poor Mr. Letterman is on his way out the door for a long vaction and he will take a few not so funny men with him.
What happened with Maher?
I'd bet ricky's and Auntie's nasty little vaporware thoughts that Maher wanted something from the Dali-Bama, and when he was properly rebuffed as the addled little troll he is, Maher decided he was gonna "out" the Messiah. Good for him. Even ridiculously idiotic stupid people light the candle of an idea in their mind every half life of Thorium 232.
I have already postulated elsewhere that all the mirrors have been removed from the White House, just to keep Hopey from languishing to death in front of one, a la "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". Or to keep Michelle's reflection from shattering them. Take your pick.
As the saying goes, "You can't un-ring a bell." Maher has already shown his true colors.
Your premise (and it may be correct) reminds me of the scene from "Butch Cassidy" after Butch kicks Logan (Ted Cassidy) in the groin and wins the fight, one of the guys who was for Logan comes up to Butch and says, “I was really rooting for you Butch."
If Maher is changing his tune, it's an opportunistic shift for political expediency — that's all.
There’s nothing noble about it.
True, true. A mean punk is a mean punk no matter which side he's on. I always disliked Letterman, and always thought the smile masked a bully; most of my people disagreed with me then. No, I don't want him on my side, and definitly not covering our back.
Well said John. Let's see how these comedians are in 2 years or so. I think the difference between their humor towards Bush and Palin over the last few years and any humor they exhibit towards Obama (nearly none) – but the humor towards the right is vicious and mean spirited.
Oh I don't think Maher is shifting his loyalties. I just think he's an opportunist and he'll use anyone to further his career. He'll hang with Obama as long as it works. If (when) Obama's popularity really starts to slide, Maher will jump into the bash-Obama party with both feet. But not until it's safe to do so.
Love your reference to "Butch Cassidy" btw. It fits perfectly.
Double AMEN to THAT! He can stay in the trash heap with letterman, michael moore, babwa walters, behar, and all the other trash talking lefties on this planet. Who needs them..Blech blech blech and double blech!
Never listen to nor watch Maher. He did have me watching this clip, up to a point. Then the liberal crap crept in and I couldn't watch any longer. The major point is, I guess, he made fun of Obama. I suppose for those in his circle that is a major thing. If you listen to the audience reaction, they don't know whether to clap or be silent. ("OMG, they are making fun of the One… what do we do???")
Yes, I suppose it's a start.
Much prettier that way also.
They don't know what to do because they haven't been LED to know what to do in THAT situation. Bunch of sheep anyway.
And what is ONE thing you wish a woman would say to an imature self absorbed child like you?
Their in the jar on the top shelf, clean up your room and MAYBEE I'll let you have them for prom night!
I can be crass and just as tasteless as you are, but I have way more class than you ever will.
Carrie Prejean is admirable…because…?
Did you vote for McCain? Because if you are discomfited by "woman hating pigs" that's weird. This is the man who suggested his wife as a contestant for a topless beauty pageant, made vicious derogatory jokes about Hillary and Chelsea Clinton (while Chelsea was younger than Palin's youngest daughter), and is famous for his tyrannical tirades aimed at women on his staff.
Bush never whined? I remember about a billion references during the 2004 campaign about what "hard work" it was to be Pretzeldent.
Bravo! You got all the Big Oil arguments into one post. You get a sandwich coupon. Hey Einstein, all the global warming models call for unusual periods of cold in certain regions as well, because of disruptions in ocean temperatures. It's really quite simple to understand, unless you're on retainer and paid in sandwich coupons.
His wife must dumb as a post.
Nolte, you are a moron. I'm no Nacy Pelosi fan, but what is there to admire about Sarah Palin and Carrie Prejean? The're both retards.
Because she's hotter than anything the Democrats have in their stable. That's why!
What point is taken? I know you think your'e being cute and clever, but you're not. That is just a ridiculous remark. Don't put words in my mouth. The left supported the war in Afghanistan for a brief period of time, then turned on it, exactly as I said. We weren't lied to about Iraq, and quit repeating that lefty mantra. We got bad intelligence from every source in the West. If you're not sold on the reason for going to war, nobody's telling you not to protest. But quit repeating that we were "lied to," and that we bloodthirsty conservatives wanted to go to war for any reason, right or wrong.
What do you mean by "absorb the Anti-American slurs?" That doesn't make any sense at all. I repeat, you have no monopoly on morality, I object to you suggesting that I am immoral because I don't agree with you, and part of my morality is that we don't sit idly by while people are being murdered in huge numbers as they were in Iraq. Spare me the lefty Darfur mantra. It's immoral sitting back , watching that happen. But lefty morality allows you to get all moral about any war we aren't fighting, but never the one we are fighting.
You ever put your balls out there on the chopping block in front of a national audience knowing it'd cost you the thing you've been working for all your life? She did. Admirable.
He's ronery. So ronery and sadry arone.
"He's savaging Obama for not being enough of a Bolshevik? Somehow I'm not impressed."
That and his desire for Obama to have some of Bush's tenacity couldn't go without more lame "Bush is dumb" jokes. When I saw the title of the video, I had hope that maybe, just maybe, the old Bill Maher that I liked was starting to return. Instead, I just got reinforcement that he has moved to the far left and is never coming back.
be… BE!!!! Your posts are 'adorable' (don't wish to be banned), but please don't leave out the predicate!
I was thinking Papa Smurf (no offense to Papa Smurf). But really, his nose is getting almost …bulbous.
No I'm not implying it you've just shown with this last post you are ARE a smug little elitist creep. It really doesn't take long because as I've mentioned before guys like can't wait to show the rest of how much more clever and witty you are. Let you go long enough and the condescending jerk comes out. See I had faith in you.

Don't worry about me, I think you've got you enough problems dealing with you
have some pie ricky
So now your just cutting and pasting on the same thread? Not even putting an effort into stupid anymore are we ricky?
Of course they calls for those things..now. Since all the warming models failed, the idiots like James Hanson got smart, they make sure the models call for every type of weather change. Learn the difference between "weather" and "climate". Now go bake us some pie.
I'm glad to know that others share my BEEFS (Barack Extreme Exposure Fatigue Syndrome) with TheOne.
For awhile I thought I was the only goofball in the country.
ricky 12 is your IQ remember that, write on a note and keep it in your pocket
Bill Maher looks desperate.
Bill Maher is a walking sight gag. Beyond that he has no redeeming qualities or talent.
Bill Maher is a walking sight gag. I look at him and I laugh. Beyond that he has no redeeming qualities or talent.
Not impressed. He spends a couple of minutes slagging Obama for not being radical and destructive enough, then retreats to the safe terrain of Republican-bashing. This isn't criticism — this is still cheerleading.
I agree with your right to believe Maher isn't a coward or a hypocrite, frankly I don't know or care whether he is or isn't. What does that have to do with it? I do know what he's been saying. I know your trying to be decent and diplomatic but If you think the only thing these comedians are is guilty of some double standard, your perception is flawed.
To be honest I'm glad the hard left has revealed itself, there is no pretense anymore. Now the vast majority of the people in this country who are decent will catch on to them. These attacks aren't innocent, they're calculated, coordinated and vicious. The huge flare up of attacks increase anytime she appears in public Hmmm. Her appearances are successful and She scares the hell out of them. Whats the best way to diminish someone? Make them a laughing stock.
Did that sting a bit, little ricky tiny d*cky?
The proper response is. "What are you, 12?"
Since you didn't define what 12 was, I shall clarify, and entertain everyone else as well.
I am twelve times smarter, more wealthy, more capable, more educated, more sexually endowed, more experienced, more handsome, more funny, and more ego than you.
Darwin was correct. This is how it should be.
And for an aside: everyone else here, with a few statist lib troll exceptions, is that far ahead of you, too.
To a lib statist. Normal people find them just fine, thank you.
And they're better looking than you, from the purely sexist point of view.
Yeah, ok, Maher did something no one else on his side of the aisle has the grapes to do.
But throughout the whole monologue I got the feeling that Maher was forcing it out. I imagine after they filmed that segment he had to roll around in several tons of the New York Times to feel left again.
Indeed, the MSM's deifying of the man is much more dangerous than the wrongheaded descisions made by the man himself.
even a stopped clock is correct twice a day.
One thing that floored me about Maher is when I found out he is a good friend of Ann Coulter's. Amazing!
I do admit to some giggles during the first part of the video. When he starts going on about how he was disappointed in Obama's not going left enough fast enough, I had to stop it. Sorry, it's sickening.
I'm telling you, after they filmed it he probably had to throw darts at his Dick Cheney dartboard for 6 hours.
I'm disappointed that Maher lifted the "but I take it out of my mouth once in awhile" line directly from the late, great Groucho Marx without giving Groucho his due. Odd behavior for a Marxist!
Let me get this straight, he associates being wrong and intentionally pissing people off with Bush? I guess its true, you are what you hate.
Yesterday I read a post titled 'Maheron'. The author did to Bill Maher and D.J. Hughley, in a polemical sense, what Reagan threatened to do to Quadafi. (For those who don't recall, Reagan told some players on a visit to the Baltimore Orioles, that he was going to nail Quadafi's balls to a log, or words to that effect.)
Today, that post is gone and there is this apologia for Maher.
So what's the deal? Is Maher being turned. Will we be entreated to brow beatings and verbal boot parties on liberals for a change? Jokes about Obama? Or is it just that he has friends over here?
What a disgusting Judas… I am done with Bill Mahr.
I don't like Bill Maher because of what he says about the American People – forget politicians. He thinks WE are idiots. He thinks conservatives and religious people are dangerous. I think the slang term 'hater' was invented to explain him.
Shill Maher made that comment re. Obama (while still taking time to bash Bush of course, saying he did "nothing right" on Olbermann's show last night) for one reason: to call attention to himself, like all non-self-respecting media whores do; he saw all the media coverage given to Letterman (dead to me; he handled the situation as piss-poorly as possible), Conan (for taking over the Tonight Show), and Colbert (for going to Iraq), and decided he wanted some extra attention for himself…I'll give him this though: at least he didn't trash the American soldirers or military this time…
Maher playing the "stunt" critic again.. Worse than Belial in Paradise Lost, Book II.. "All was false and hollow"..
Ah too funny… nowhere is too left for a liberal….
"Now, we can nitpick and say that at times Maher’s been harder on Bush, but there’s no ignoring the fact that Obama’s taking some withering fire there. Nancy Pelosi, however…"
And, in one post, John Nolte undermines this blog's entire reason for being.
Don't you realize Shill Maher isn't about being funny (even at criticizing Obama), but generating cheap heat?
Taking a piss just sounds better…
Looking like Yoda would be a step up for that unfunny troll!
C'mon, expecting that minger BM to be funny is like expecting Letteroldman to be coherent in his joke-telling!
Basically, he said that a) Obama isn't leftist ENOUGH for him, and b) he should be more like Bush (who he can't go 5 minutes without hating on); who says excessive weed/bong use doesn't kill brain cells?
His wife must be an eye sore.
Reps and science, a tragic history.
haha your more ego than me? Seeing as your life is based on possessions and other peoples opinions of you, I hope you can get better.
You are idiots, there can be no doubt about that.
"Diane's" real name is Rahm. No woman would write that.
I'll dispense with any metaphors. Talking to you is like well, taking to an arrogant liberal whose every word is chosen to make sure he imparts to you how much more witty and clever he is then you, what's funny about it is comes off exactly as that.
Don't bother giving me points for Ricky, no challenge there, I will say you are smarter then him.
Nolte's post reminded me of the line by Murray (I think) from the final episode of the Mary Tyler Moore show when anchorman Ted surprisingly came to the defense of the others when they got fired: When pigs fly you can't expect them to stay up very long. (or something like that)
That said I have to agree with several others that Maher is basically complaining that we are not moving left fast enough. Pass.
I don't think Maher's been funny since Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death when he was comic relief between shots of Shannon Tweed and Adrienne Barbeau.
I am stunned so many on the right have successfully been scammed by Maher.
He absolutely is still a coward, but a clever one.
Look at the real moral of his story. He doesn't care about the press coverage. His entire point is that, despite the shock and awe of all the radical changes Obama has made over the last five months, he ISN'T RADICAL ENOUGH or moving fast enough for Maher! His whole point is he should be more like Maher's vision of Bush, shoving through ALL of the leftist agenda whether anyone likes it or not. This is "but Bush" sleight of hand. Hidden behind his comedy the only real criticism is for Obama to be more radical, faster.
Maher deserves no praise for this, especially when he pretends to be libertarian.
Speak for yourself, troll; there can be no doubt Shill Maher is a filthy animal who no one likes, even those he panders to…
I'd love it too if Obama said, "Jesus told me to fix healthcare…starting with the weakest and most dependent among us – the unborn children. For as the Lord said, 'Whatever you neglected to do unto one of these least of these, you neglected to do unto Me!'".
Awesome. Sorry I can only give you one "thumbs up".
Maybe we should compile a list of other animal similes that isn't so racially charged?
"Obama's administration is like a bunch of drunken monitor lizards trying to put together a jigsaw puzzle."
That's not too bad. Now we need to work on the word "jigsaw".
Is there no end to this?
Actually, we do. He'd get less accomplished and probably wind up as a one-term president.
Maher is in retreat to cover his azz. Obama luster is wearing hin and even a effete dork leftie can see that. Bill may be a dork leftie but he is a savy person when gauging his audience. I believe that in the next couple of months Obama will loose quite a few supporters in the comedy field. More jokes will appear due to the bumbler being self exposed.
So Vince…did you vote for McCain? Cause that was your guy right there.
why didnt you?
Sheesh. By your very words you reveal how messed up your brain is. My brain was absolutely clear when I cast my vote – against the Obamanation. May God confound the damn Marxist.

Tom…that was too funny…that one slipped right by me…..LQTM
Trying to play Jenga?
Leno has always been funnier and had nore class than Maher or Letterman. His humor is not mean spirited and he's pretty balanced in his targets.
These other guys have a search and destroy agenda when it comes to conservatives. They have no class and no shame. And there is no line they won't cross. I don't know about Maher, but it explains why Letterman is struggling in the ratings.
People like funny, they don't like ridicule and mean. And they should keep it up because it does nothing but increase support for the victims in this like Sarah Palin. Americans like the underdog victim thing.
Well… In that case he is RIGHT. Gun nuts, trailer trash, Republicans.. All the same thing.
Hmmmm…..
Looks like Maher is back to being the Maher we know and love.
Maher: GOP ‘Club for Angry White People and Jesus Freaks’
All is now right with the world!!!
Sadly just an unacceptable clown. Everything non-white people hate about white privilege. Nice frame up. Now lefties and minorities (in the new America) no longer have to suffer these undeserving white trash idols.
