‘American Idol’ and Dumbing Down the Definition of Homophobe
by John NolteOver at Huffington Post, Jim David is positive Adam Lambert’s “American Idol” loss was due to widespread homophobia in America. He pins this charge squarely on the fact that, in his opinion, Lambert is the better singer and therefore should’ve beaten Kris Allen, but didn’t because of…
Yes, homophobia is alive and well, which is why Lambert lost the ultimate title. Go ahead — give me another reason.
What’s so amusing about David’s challenge is that he gives all the reason you could ever want in his very next sentence:
Yes, Lambert is over the top and screams a lot and is campier than Liberace at Radio City.
Let’s brush aside the fact that taste is relative when it comes to who has a better voice or who’s a better performer and remember that the show isn’t called “Best American Singer,” it’s called “American Idol,” and being an idol involves more than voice and performance. How about poise, which by David’s own description Lambert seems to lack?
A big part of which American “idols” we Americans choose to emotionally invest ourselves in, or spend our entertainment dollars on, has to do with being able to identify with that person – and most of us simply can’t identify with someone who’s “over the top … screams a lot and … campier than Liberace at Radio City,” regardless of their sexuality.
And talk about dumbing down the definition of “homophobia.”
I’ve seen Tom Petty in concert seven times — Elton John, zero. But now, according to The Jim David Standard, this makes me a homophobe because I voted with my dollars for the straight guy with the nasal twang and not the gay man with the better voice. (Though I am an Elton John fan and an even bigger Liberace fan.)
I guess this means that those of you who choose Willie Nelson over K.D. Lang qualify as outright gay bashers.
The irony is double thick. First off, labeling a huge swath of America homophobic based on utter nonsense is in and of itself pure bigotry, but we patriots owe Jim David a hearty thanks. After all, what a wonderful thing it says about the tolerance of America that someone so concerned with homophobia is reduced to wasting 1200 words on this.

I think Kris Allen won because he showed himself to be more diverse and creative. He did some amazing, original takes on some famous songs that showed him to be a true talent. Lambert started out doing something like that, but ended up being kind of the same every week.
Another factor is the judges really pushed Lambert way too hard. Every week they called him brilliant and the best contestant in the history of contests and so on. I think that turned off a bunch of viewers because it made the show look rigged. They did that last year with David Archuleta and the viewers voted for David Cook instead.
Kris Allen is also not gimmicky. Whereas Lambert is very gimmicky with the black nail polish and so on. I think Allen was just more appealing to the widest American audience. Personally I think they are almost evenly matched, but Allen had more of a relateable style. In the 70s Lambert might have won because that was the era of glam rock. Allen is probably more appealing to today's cross over audience. He is a little like a John Mayer crossed with a country star and had kind of a James Taylor vibe.
And yes, I watch Idol. I'm a music fan and I like hearing people do fresh takes on classic songs.
I've not watched one second of American Idol ever. Like all reality programing, it's simply a mean spirited put down-a-thon.
Yeah, what an idiotic comment by Jim David. The wife watches AI so I hear parts of it. Kris simply sang better the night of the vote. They both sang the same song, and his arrangement was better as well.
And what IS up with all the screeching? Holy smokes.
Heh. I think Adam Lambert has a better voice. Other than that, he annoys the crap out of me as screaming emo-kid. Gay? Couldn't give a crap.
If America is so homophobic, how did he make it into the finals?
Never underestimate the power of the 14 year old female voting bloc.

I too thought that Adam was a little too edgy to pull it off. He has a hell of a voice and will certainly find himself as a major artist, probably with Queen. I thought Danny was the best singer, but Kris had that wholesome appeal and the pop package, and he made the songs his own – the boppers could embrace him. As a musician, the one thing IMO that did Lambert in was his powervoice. It was exhausting to listen to after time, and caused ear fatigue. That last origonal song(lousy at best) showed Chris had the chops. But, when he won, the expression on Simon's face was priceless
From California to American Idol, the majority has spoken. They really don't care what the liberal-minded bias-accusing bashers say anymore.
I watch because it showcases some amazing talent, and sometimes you'll find a brilliant performance here and there.
What you said about Kris' modern appeal is true, but there's also the fact that Adam over sold his high notes halfway through the season. For a guy with such range, he stayed high in every song and always gave a predictable scream. He made himself gimmicky.
Okay, I'll sheepishly admit to watching Idol, but I leave voting to the tweens, teens and grandmothers. I have eclectic taste in music, so even though Kris and Adam had very different musical styles, they were each equally deserving of winning, in my opinion. Adam's going to be a huge star, there's just no doubt about it. He didn't need an American Idol win for that to happen, only the exposure the show gave him. The reason I think he didn't win, however, has nothing to do with homophobia. Danny Gokey's fan were more likely to prefer Kris Allen's style to Adam Lambert's. I'd say Kris won due to picking up the Gokey fans' votes. I would think coming in second would disprove any theories about homophobia. How could he have made it that far in the competition if that had seriously been an issue?
That's why the film industry targets them — they're very willing to spend money. Very, very willing.
Amen that. I guarandamntee you there'd be no outcry against church-haters if Lambert had won. Imagine a world where people are rewarded based on their talent and not the minority they belong to! Now keep imagining it, 'cause that's about as far as it goes. Unless of course you win American Idol.
Any feminists want to chime in on how sexist America is because there were no female finalists? How about how racist we are because there were no black finalists?
Thank you for saying that! Exactly the point (if there must be one). The whole thing is ridiculous and I daresay decadent.
Well, I didn't like either of the finalists — I referred to them, perhaps too cruelly, as "Meat Sack A" and "Meat Sack B." I didn't like any of the top contestants this year, and I really didn't like the way the judges seemed to play favorites week after week. The strange thing about the Lambert phenomenon was how his over-the-top Broadway theatrics continually won the praise of Simon Cowell, who has been known to criticize contestants in the past for exhibiting precisely such characteristics.
Truth be told, I wanted Norman Gentle to win. Homophobia, indeed.
This is a great piece. I have not watched either of these so-called singers and I have no intention of ever doing so. Unfortunately, despite avoiding A.I. completely (one season a couple years ago was more than enough – you don't get that time back), this nonsense is still inescapable. And unfortunately, I will no doubt be subjected to the "singing" of these two jerks whether I like it or not. That's our culture. The lesson is one we know all too well: repeat something loud enough, and often enough, and it becomes truth. Dangerous, in any context.
The reason I think he didn't win, however, has nothing to do with homophobia. Danny Gokey's fan were more likely to prefer Kris Allen's style to Adam Lambert's. I'd say Kris won due to picking up the Gokey fans' votes. I agree with this statement. I said the same thing this morning. I don't even watch AI, but it's hard to not hear about it (esp. because I'm in WI~Gokey's home state)~Kris and Danny are both Music Ministers at their churches and had the same basic style of singing. Kris picked up Gokey's fanbase and that is what put him over the top.
If America is so homopobic then what the hell is Cuba , Venezula and Iran. Try doing your thing over there, not much opportunity for the Musical Comedy types in those Paradise's if you know what I mean. In this Country it's an Industry. Gaw-head Jim David keep walking your slip is showing.
When Adam butchered Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" with this emo screaming many weeks ago, I simply stopped watching. I mean it was JOHNNY CASH… the John Wayne of the music world! Disgraceful.
To me, Idol has just jumped the shark this year. I watched about the last 20 minutes of the finale and the whole let's bring back the "loosers" and extending Tatianna Del Toro's fame by an additional 15 minutes… just made me sick.
And I didn't care for the new judge. Why do we need another Paula clone?
Anyhow… I seriously thought Adam would win just because his stuff was so different and the judges seem to crown him the winner back in week one.
Homophobia? Not if he made it all the way to the finale… I didn't like him not because he "might be gay" (cause he doesn't really discuss it), but because he keeps rubbing our faces in just how emo he is.
And seriously, I can't dig emo.
Clay Aiken made it to the finals as well and I think he's selling more records than Ruben has.
Is a meat sack anything like a large bag of mostly water?
I think the whole gay/Christian thing has absolutely no effect on the voting at all. I simply think that Adam is cuter, but Kris is hotter. Oh, God, I've lived in San Francisco too long.
To be more accurate, only one to me looked like an "ugly bag of mostly water." The rest of the content was cosmetics.
I liked Adam Lambert at first. Really. He was like Ian Gillian and Jimmy Somerville's love child, and the only other singer who piqued my interest was Allison, who did an incredible job on 'Give In To Me'. Then I started noticing Kris Allen, and started listening to his pre-Idol stuff, and he knocked my socks off with "Falling Slowly" and 'Heartless", and I found myself listening to him while I ran, and then I voted for him in the final, which I've never done. The point is that Kris is talented and a deserving winner. Adam et al had no influence over my decision. I just want more Kris Allen music.
Normally because it's someone else's money.
Remember when a buck you earned from chores was a big allowance?
The left NEEDS a significant fraction of the citizenry to be racist, sexist and homophobic. It's the basis of their power right now. They're running the marxist playbook with class replaced by race, gender and sexual orientation. Which is why, even if there's no overt evidence of it, they have to claim that it's hovering JUST UNDER THE SURFACE.
=Crash.
I'm not an American Idol fan. I saw the last episode before the final vote, only because I was having dinner with my parents that night. I definitely thought Adam has a better voice, but I didn't like his cover of "A Change is Gonna Come". Sam Cooke , in my mind, has the best voice of all time. The Gits cover of the song is even better though. I love you Mia. RIP.
Only the insecure and the paranoid would keep using this tired play time after time. It is always the unenlighteneds fault that things don't come out the way they want them to. I actually hope they keep this up, it will expose them for who they really are. Americans by and large could care less about such things and are more concerned with other aspects like the quality of the performance and not someone elses opinion of what the performance should be.
I know I will get bashed on for this one, but I'm pretty sure that the "14 year old female voting bloc" was not the only group to vote for Kris…and the individual who posted above about the emo thing…nail on the head…Lambert looked SILLY…if he would have mixed it up a bit, he could have gotten away with the more outrageous styling…but the non-stop black hair/nails…SILLY! Nothing to do with "gay", and everything to do with OVERALL perception.
"Homophobia" is such a retarded term. A phobia is a fear, and I'm pretty sure not many heterosexuals actually fear homosexuals. The issue is, should homosexuality be something society positively endorses? Judging from the objective life outcomes of homosexuals, you could only logically conclude, "no."
That isn't to say homosexuals should be discriminated against, or that they should be denied adequate legal protections – I have no issues with legalized domestic arrangements, for example, to have visitation and property rights protected – but for society to endorse a lifestyle that is – again, objectively – unhealthy is just wrong.
Potato chips and trans-fats suffer more discrimination today than homosexuals do. Heck, even salt and monosodium glutamate.
As for American Idol, I deeply and profoundly do not care.
How would you know then?
It's actually a really good show, and very family friendly
I really liked Gentle. Wanted him in the top 10
Ditto. I think I may be unlike most people and prefer to watch shows on Discovery or The History Channel. Why do people buy cable or satellite and then watch this stuff on the idiot box?
My gay friends all voted for Kris.
I watched the show when my kids were younger, but haven't seen it since Chris Daughtry was on. He wore guyliner, nail polish, etc, but no one said he was not picked because of it, as some have said of Lambert. I actually watched the last two shows, just cause I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I found them both to be talented. I also heard this evening where someone in charge said the texting was what put Allen over the top, and that over a third of his votes came from his home state. Doesn't sound like much of a conspiracy to me. Unless the 14 y old girls texting decided to fantasize about the married, straight guy vs the supposedly gay guy. Snoozefest idea. And definately not political.
Adam is a one-note bore. He's a KISS wannabe from the old, tired 70's.
So what if American DOES prefer a Christian singer over a supposed gay one? More Americans are against abortion than ever before. America is turning back to its religious roots? I doubt it… it would be nice.
Perhaps voting for Kris eased folks' conscious. Kind of like why I believe some people voted for Obama. Perhaps they didn't like Adam's over the top style. In short…. if you call 'intolerant' the fact that we don't agree with someone's sexual orientation, then call me intolerant. I'm not 'Iran' intolerant, however.
Here is an interesting article from the Huff as well. I never thought I would visit the site….go figure.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-giltz/emame...
This is the silliest thing out there. But as the attacks on Miss CA have faded as old news, the aggressive gay brownshirts needed a new issue to keep their tired arguments on the front page.
Rather, I think this is absolutely consistent with the political discourse in our country today. I believe that the election of Kris is exactly in line with what happened in November. In AI, you select the winner partly on talent and voice, but more on "likeability." But the most important factor, by far, is the ability to get out the vote. And you are not restricted to one 14 year old – one vote. The more you care; the more you want your candidate to win, the more times you vote. Sort of like ACORN…
For the same reasons we are a down right mean and racist country if you didn't vote for Obama.
If? We use the left's definition of "homophobic" then yes I am.
A true story….as a freshman in high school it didn't take long to figure out who the "cool kids" were….but a funny thing happened toward the end of that year….when it came time to choose the Prom Queen…….the seniors let us know their favorite wasn't one of the traditional "cool kids" but a girl we'd never even been aware of…..she won by a landslide!! By my senior year…..same thing….we choose not one of the traditional "cool kids" but the person who'd earned our affection…and votes…by being someone who'd been there all along and had become someone we were proud to represent us….."cool kids" were still "cool"…..but they'd had their time in the spotlight and it was time for someone else…..
By the way….my wife of 35 years was just that person at another school in another town…….quiet in the corner as a freshman…..to Prom Queen as a senior……happens all the time!!!!! Congratulations Kris…..Prom King!!!
The entire show is GAY and it's always number one so how can it be homophobia?
"Homophobe" is a totally bogus term. It is a politically correct buzzword dressed up as a psychiatirc term. Its understood implication is that anyone who doesn't approve of homsexuals has a deep-seated fear that he himself might be a homo. It's like calling someone "bigot" but with an extra stinger in its tail. Its sole puprpose is to silence and intimidate. In short, the term is meant to have the same impact as calling someone "racist." But of course, it doesn't because "homophobe" makes about as much sense as calling someone a "unicorn."
So irrespective of talent or skill, if you pick the straight guy over the gay guy you're a homophobe, if you pick the white guy over the black guy you're racist, if you pick the man over the woman you're sexist, and if you're faced with the choice between the gay black man and the white lesbian woman you're head may explode.
It's also ironic that the same demographic most likely to vote for AI finalists is also the same demographic that was just being trumpeted as the most accepting of gay marriage not so long ago according to polls. However, since they didn't overwhlemingly vote for the gay singer, they are now the most homphopbic demographic too? I'm really not sure who those two opinions square. At some point, people are going to have wake up and realize that you really can't have it both way …
Adam Lambert, in his own words, gave the audience things they didn't know they wanted. Guess they didn't want it after all. I sure didn't.
It would be foolish to say that homophobia wasn't a factor in the voting, but the same could be said about gay folks voting for Adam Lambert, just because he may be gay. What I'm saying is that we shouldn't generalize an entire voting. There are various motives that lead to a given result. To say homophobia was the sole reason, Adam Lambert didn't win, is to ignore the fact that if it was so, he would have never reached the finals.
What irks me is that there are so many more outrageous instances of homophobia that deserve our attention. Setting aside the examples of widespread persecution of homosexuals – Nazi Germany, for instance; or Sharia law that mandates the death penalty for homosexuals.
I'm talking about Bill Richardson using the word "faggot," maricón in Spanish on Imus a year or so ago. How about when Bob Shrum asked John Edwards how he felt about gay rights, and Edwards replied, "I'm not comfortable around those people. Pete Stark calling a fellow congressman a "little fruitcake" on Capitol Hill. Want more?
Of course, homophobia is also lambasted by the left in the most appropriate manner: Nicola Hill, a member of the British group Association for Adoption and Fostering wrote in their Guide to Adoption for Lesbians and Gay Men that critics of gay adoption are "retarded homophobes."
You stay classy, left wing.
The only good reality show is Amazing Race.
Liberals will always find a way that a slight has been delivered. If they think they didn't get a outcome that they wanted, they will find a conspircy to fit the facts.
and in four years, they become a 18 year voting bloc. Which is one of the reasons we have President Obama.
But even in defeat, liberals see that they are right and you are wrong. Something nerfarious must have happened to ensure the liberal way loses. How dare the unwashed masses go against what the liberals want.
I concur. There was a lot to like about Adam Lambert, the way he complimented the musicians and said the right things. He has a lot of talent that could bloom in a lot of places, especially on Broadway. He is the only person I've seen who has a chance of doing "The Boy From Oz". (When Hugh Jackman left the show, the show closed. I think Adam, with some weight loss, could do that role well).
Adam might be an attractive man, but wearing a female haircut detracted (as did the black nail polish and "guyliner"). He wore more makeup than the women on the show. I thought he had a tremendous resemblance to Elvis Presley and if there is ever a good biopic about Presley, he should get the role.
The one night he didn't wear the girl's haircut and came out in an (albeit shiny) suit was the night I thought that he just might be able to win. The rest of the time, I tuned him out when he appeared because he was too much.
The judges pushing Lambert and dissing Kris (which they did most of the time, in essence telling him and the rest of us that he didn't belong up there with Allyson, Danny, Matt and Adam) created a backlash. I didn't pay much attention to Kris until they kept bashing him.
Having them both sing the same song in the finale was a nice touch but the song wasn't much. Sorry Kara, but you should stick to judging.
I admit I don't like vocals much — especially modern music. I prefer instrumentals and symphonic music. (I do like the old rock when there were real tunes to the music – think 'Yesterday" by the Beatles). Adam's screaming turned me off. As one of the judges said, he is "a rock star". And that's how it came across — some weirdly dressed, strange haired whack job, strutting around the stage, screaming into the microphone. This was how Allyson came off, too, and last year, David Cook (before he did "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"). When Cook did that song, he proved he could sing. Adam never proofed he could sing. He just hollered. If this had been "Best Rock Star" Adam would have had it in a strut-away.
"American Idol" is about the whole package. As Hudnall said, it isn't the "Best Singer" competition. Allyson didn't have the whole package. She could sing and when she sang was transformed. But that dyed red hair was the wrong color for her and no amount of makeup was going to make her attractive. The two blondes were attractive but weren't good singers. Lil Rounds didn't do herself any favors by being mouthy and surly and making her hair (long or short this week) the focus and copying the arrangements of the original artists. Danny Gokey has a great voice and seemed to be a good guy, but he didn't have star quality. I suspect, however, he'll be like the come from behind horse and will do very well in the long run.
The American voters picked the right guy. He had the whole package. Homophobia had nothing to do with it.
It's sad to see that some gays now think they're entitled.
just a thoery: Adam didn't win because he got fewer votes.
Who cares why? Its not as if Adam won't have a career. I bet he will be around much longer than the forgetable winner. Hmmm Sounds like a another recent contest. Second place more famous than first. interesting.
I don't watch Idol so who knows but jeez Louise, the whole thing is decided by 14 year old girls glued to their redial button. Maybe they ARE homophobic (whatever that really means) or maybe this guy just didn't appeal to Idol's voting demographic. Anyway, I like Elton John a lot but have no use for Rufus Wainwright. It's the musical style not the musician's sexual proclivities that decide my like or dislike for the music. I'd bet most people are pretty much the same when it comes to what they hear.
Liberals have been dumbing down all the card issues of race, gender, & sexual orientation for quite some time. This is just the latest example.
Anytime Al Sharpton & Jesse Jackson gets involved, they dumb down the race issues since they are race vultures.
I don't really pay much attention to popularity orgies ie AI. But from what I have seen of the winners it appears that the ones that win and later go on to achieve success give America what she wants…a good song and a great voice ie Carrie Underwood. And yes I am biased to country music. I think the "boring" married kid from AR will do well if he goes that direction with his music.
Neither was a person of color. This proves that America is more racist than homophobic.
Neither was a disabled so America mocks the handicapped. (Wait–maybe I should I say, "of differing ability" instead of handicapped–wow, the pc-ness of figuring out which label is acceptable day by day makes me crazy–oops, sorry for saying crazy. I should have said, "mentally challenged.")
Neither finalist was a woman. We're still a sexist pig nation.
Neither was Muslim–sorry about the pig reference.
Neither was a Mexican. (I can say the word, "Mexican" because I am of Mexican ancestry. But if YOU say Mexican it's racist.)
Neither was homeless. So America doesn't care about the homeless.
(I could go on and on. . .)
I enjoy watching AI because I like seeing these young people pushing themselves to meet an elusive standard that frequently lies just beyond their range. So they are pushed by the judges. I think multiple voting is wrong, but AI didn't ask me about that.
Kris doesn't realize how good he is, and he will do very well I think. Adam is self-indulgent and wildly talented, with a huge future ahead of him.
America will be perfected when everything from SCOTUS justices to Idol winners are hand picked by the Left. At least the infrastructure will be, and then all speech and actions can be run through the liberal filter for approval. Either that or sanity and self interest will prevail, hopefully before too much damage is done.
Adam is also an old fart, the teenny-boppers didn't want that.
If Carrie's revenge played a part, then maybe some people need to look at how they are perceived … In your face may not be the best way. MAybe don't ask don't tell is really best after all.
Don't look at me; we stay on Food Channel, Sci-Fi, Cartoon Network, etc. We watched Idol when it was new, but now?
Regular programming is way too much like society in general, nowadays. All show, no go.
Because America really isn't homophobic. Militant Gays are Ameriphobic, and will go WAY out of their way to demonstrate it.
If they're in such a snit over "Idol", imagine the apoplexy that will be demonstrated in 2010!
"*Shhhhhh…..*"
(You may get your wish…)
Brilliant!! +1!
Out of 100 million votes, I am guessing 99, 999, 992 of them were from teenage girls. The fact that teenage girls are more attracted to a straight male over a gay one is homophobia? I call that biology.
The Huffington Post is nothing more than the National Enquirer with a very wealthy benefactor.
Because we're only MOSTLY homophobic.
You got it.
At least according to the statists.
Do like I do. If they're the best at what they are doing, say so. And tell the revisionists to take a flying flip.
LOL. At least you're secure enough in your sexuality to admit it!
[...] in the show’s history. Here’s the link to Jim David’s blog post, as well as an excellent response from John Nolte at Big Hollywood, but I think this discussion from Red Eye is a bit more [...]
Quite brilliant!!
Just saw Elton John and Billy Joel last night here in Michigan! I guess the fact that I am bigger fan of Joel, and only know Elton's radio hits, makes me a homophobe.
Oh, and I am a racist too because I voted for John McCain and Sarah Palin………………
Sci-Fi? I hope you're not referring to their original movies but their original TV shows.
I don't watch this show but am amazed how popular it is and how involved viewers are.
As to the Homo comment, you can assert anything you want but backing it up with facts is another thing, especially when dealing with concepts like racism and homophobia.
Whatever!
yeah, yeah, yeah. and a few years ago Elton John self-righteously, not to mention ignorantly, declared Americans (or at least Idol voters) were racist for not supporting a black contestant.
fast forward to the big hypocrite supporting Hillary instead of the black contestant (ok, half black, or "Halfrican-American") in last year's election…
the liberal mantra "Do as I say, not as I do." (hey, anybody know what that is in Latin?)
Makes me think what the percentage of gay people that voted for Kris?
Adam lost because his musical style does not cater to the predominant AI crowd which are the teenage fangirls. Adam is just in the wrong show that is all. If he was say in the Rockstar Supernova show he would have won for sure.
I am a straight 56 year old female and thought Adam Lambert was awesome. His twists on old standards were brilliant. and, hello? He did Led Zep! His version of Mad World secured my vote. I have never purchaced a CD from any AI contestant or winner but will be waiting for his to appear. Surely some label has picked him up. Kris is good but is a little too whitebread for me. Give me a rock and roller every time! Gay? Not Gay? Who cares?
Worse yet is a Brit publicly supporting a candidate in a U.S. election. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Elton, stick to playing the piano. At that there is no doubt you are awesome.
The left says that if you voted for Adam you're a homophobe, and if you voted for McCain you're a racist.
So who in America has really got the hang-up over race and sexual preference?
Good point.
And if you didn't vote for Obama you were racist.
Agreed…if you don't watch how would know it's a mean spirited put down a thon? First of all, intelligent people usually agree with Simon's criticisms. And if you (a contestant) can't take the heat…then get out of the kitchen…you have no business being on the show. And that goes for all the untalented idiots that audition. I mean, thank you for all laughs and such…but what did you expect?
Hey! I was gonna say that!
While I agree and appreciate your article John, I did happen to notice this piece written by Paul Katz @ HP yesterday which made an attempt to address Jim David's boneheaded spin of the American Idol final.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/paul-katz/adam-lamb...
A nice try.
Spot on and succinctly put.
You can look back as recent as 2000. Gore was supposed to win and the libs are still bit%^ing about it.
Good point. Also, in retrospect, I think I was unfair to meat.
Every season, when my wife and I watch the show, I find myself saying after some rip-roaring performance, "Yeah, I'd buy that record." I almost never do — once the butchers at J Records get ahold of these winners, they overproduce the material and siphon out whatever substance made them interesting in the first place. But I didn't do that with any of the top 13 this year. None of them sounded interesting to me at all.
Except for Norman Gentle, purged from — what? — the Top 36? Top 24? I don't remember now. He's something of a novelty act, sure, but he was and remains brilliantly funny. I'd buy that record, for certain.
I have tried to watch AI. I really have. I just can't stomach it. First of all, can't stomach the nobody-ever-told-me-I-can't-sing people. I'm the product of two musicans with a minor skill-set myself, so it almost literally hurts when I hear off-key singing beign done loudly and in a public arena. Secondly, Simon annoyes the heck out of me, Paula is – at best – vacuous and Randy is..well…Randy. Wouldn't want to hang out with any of them. Don't know anything about the 4th judge…not even her name. This season, I really wanted to try to watch again. Then I saw this Adam Lambert guy screaming notes that are so high they're almost in the dogs-only frequency range and doing it while hanging his tongue out of his mouth. Creeped me out, it did. Didn't see Kris sing. Didn't see Danny sing. But it really doesn't matter. Most anyone who made it to the final 3 would be better than Adam. IMHO, of course.

Didn't see Kris sing. Didn't see Danny sing. But it really doesn't matter. Most anyone who made it to the final 3 would be better than Adam. IMHO, of course.
Adam Lambert mangled "A Change is Gonna Come." Lambert makes Michael Crawford look like James Brown.
What did Jin David have to say about Miss America ?
That's what happened in my neck of the woods, too. Gay men hated Adam and called a hundred times to vote for Kris. Why is that?
Loved both Adam and Kris this year, and am looking forward to watching their future careers. If anything, I think the show was great in spite of all the producers and judges did to ruin it. Donating screen time to Nick Norman, Tatiana del Toro, and Bikini Girl, running over time, fewer actual performances, judges' antics, the incessant babbling, etc. The votes may reflect America's disgust with the judges. The judges did all they could to promote Adam (who deserved their praise), and gave Kris negative or lukewarm feedback (which he didn't deserve), and it was too obvious whose contract they wanted to win. Perhaps that motivated Kris fans to dial his number instead of Adam's.
The reactions of these HETEROPHOBES is exactly why homosexuality should once again be designated a mental disorder and they should all be committed or jailed for their terrorist attacks on the normal. They were known to be a danger for years to the safety and security of America, and have proven it over and over. The psychiatrists that changed their standing have been proven wrong, in spades.
They claim they want "equal rights to marry".
They have the same rights to marry as the rest of us. They just don't like the normal choice, due to their mental disorder, and they demand we change the law and except them as normal.
Murderers have the same rights to live as we all do, until they murder. We don't change the law to make their murders legal because they were born wanting to murder.
We kill them because they are a threat to the normal.
Next to the public school system, homosexuals are the greatest threat to this country.
Lambert is a one-trick pony. If he didn't employ his banshee wail, he would have been voted off by week 8.
The field is wide-open for Kris: he could go country, pop, or R & B.
Lambert is gay?
And what will all the homophobes do when they die, go up to heaven, and realize finally that god is gay?
(she's also black too!)
