Review: Outrage
by John NolteJust below the “Thirtysomething” wing, there’s a corner of Hell where never-ending segments of “60 Minutes” air. Sitting through “Outrage” is probably as close as you can get to that experience. Calling it a “documentary” would be dishonest. What “Outrage” really is is 90 tedious minutes devoted to the justification of its own existence — until, of course, in an amusing and unsurprising burst of hypocrisy, it violates even its own carefully laid ground rules to target a Fox News personality.
Written and directed by Kirby Dick, “Outrage” holds itself up as a serious-minded expose on the hypocrisy of supposed gay politicians who, from within the hypocritical, self-loathing confines of a straight closet, make life difficult for the gay community through a self-hatred which manifests as votes against same-sex marriage, civil unions, gay adoption, and the like.
But the film’s not really about that.
“Outrage” is really about “Outrage.” Rarely does the narrative deviate from droning talking heads plucked primarily from the gay activist community to rationalize why it’s justifiable and even important for “Outrage” to out individuals using the worst kind of rumor mongering and speculation into their private lives.
The goal of “Outrage” is not to enlighten as to what it is to live a lie or even to engage in a discussion on same-sex marriage. The goal is the settling of scores and to further cement Democrat dominance through the character assassination of a number of prominent Republican lawmakers. Oh sure, a predictable fig-leaf of “fairness” arrives in the form of a Democrat, but that this sole target with a “D” after his name has long since retired and supported both Bush and the war in Iraq is no coincidence.
“Outrage” is what you call a leftist loss leader; where a bunch of Hollywoodists drop a few million dollars they know they’ll never recover (so far, the film’s grossed less than $33,000) hoping that with the help of a willing liberal media and conservative outrage an “important discussion” will begin — which really means poisoning the mainstream news cycle with character assassination talking points.
Thus far, for the most part, the mainstream news media’s resisted grabbing this tiger by the tail. Those few outlets doing Dick’s dirty bidding are laughably using the old “This story is about how the news media is covering the story…” trick, with a side order of, “Oh and they claim so-and-so is gay.” Wisely, we righties haven’t come close to swallowing such obvious bait.
But that may be because it’s difficult to get indignant over such a silly movie that’s best described as the Inspector Clouseau of leftist hit pieces. Dick’s evidence is downright comical. Various men, many hidden in shadow, describe their stolen sexual moments with the famous “hypocrites.” One witness – and I’m barely paraphrasing here – says, “After his orgasm he threatened to destroy me if I told anyone.”
And that’s the best of the evidence. The rest is second and third hand accounts of conversations. But the most absurd “gayness evidence” is the use of the gayest photographs available of the various targets. Give Dick credit. Like Ken Burns preparing “The Civil War,” he and his team must have spread out across the country to cull through thousands of photos and then gathered with their best finds in order to choose final cuts based on such factors as “the limpness of the wrist.” The cruelest homophobe couldn’t have found meaner-spirited photos to ridicule these individuals and after a while, the very small (around 20 people on opening night in the heart of leftist Hollywood), sympathetic audience I was with started to laugh out loud at the sight of them.
And let’s face it, if any one of us were photographed as often as most modern-day politicians, now and again we’d all be caught in what you might call a “heterosexually-challenged moment.”
At times you wonder if “Outrage” isn’t the most subversive of comedies. What we have here is a film posing as a moral crusade with Barney Frank and former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey as its conscience.
The high point, however, arrives when “Outrage” brazenly violates its very own rules. Dick’s License to Out, so his film tells us (ad nauseum), is provided by the same tired excuse the left always summons to destroy innocent individuals: perceived hypocrisy. You see, because these supposed gay men are not towing the gay activist line, this presumably justifies outing them (based on no actual evidence). The unceasing drumbeat is, “This isn’t about outing, this is about hypocrisy,” and yet after nearly an hour of drilling this into our skulls, Dick violates his own standard and “outs” a popular Fox News personality. Not a conservative one, mind you, not someone who can be tagged with this ridiculous definition of a hypocrite, just a guy who does straight news – if you’ll pardon the expression.
Being shocked or appalled by this glaring double standard or anything else having to do with “Outrage” is like being shocked and appalled at being shot at on the battlefield. Like much of Hollywood and almost all of the news media, Dick’s not interested in truth, fairness, moral clarity, making a profit, or a lasting legacy as a serious artist. This is rough and tumble, no holds-barred ideological warfare and anyone on our side who stands wide-eyed wondering why the other side isn’t following the rules needs to wake up and look around at the casualties who were similarly wide-eyed.
Now, I’m not gay, and other than the warm, wonderful feeling I get in my stomach at the sight of a blond Brad Pitt in “Legends of the Fall,” I have no idea what it’s like to be gay. But were I, the only outrage I’d feel would be at those furthering the conventional wisdom that your sexuality is tied to your politics. There’s absolutely nothing hypocritical about being homosexual and standing by a tradition that dates back thousands of years, or thinking that maybe a child is best served being raised in a household with a mommy and a daddy.
Seems to me there’s more room to be true to yourself in the closet than on Kirby Dick’s ideological plantation.
If those in the closet were attempting to write or enforce sodomy laws or lock up homosexuals, that really would be hypocrisy. But this isn’t the case, and while the film claims their targeted lawmakers voted against laws in favor of gay civil unions and increases in AIDS research, no context is offered. Were those votes based on larger bills found unacceptable? Did any of these individuals ever vote in favor of these issues in better bills? The film never says so and knowing nothing terrifies the left like context, you can color me skeptical.
How boorish, poorly executed, and clumsily obvious is “Outrage?”
It should’ve been called: “John Kerry Mentions Mary Cheney is Gay: The Movie.”
UPDATE: Can’t believe I forgot to mention that at no point in the film does Dick mention that President Obama along with Bill and Hillary Clinton oppose gay marriage. Not once is Bill Clinton’s signature on the Defense of Marriage Act brought up.

I do not care who is Gay or what they do in their bedroom. Just do not tell me I have to like it and teach my children it is a positive life style.
I don't care if anyone is gay or not, I just do not want my religion insulted because of some perceived slight.
It amazes me how the left can be so judgemental (even though they say they aren't) to call people hypocrites when all they are doing is being what they are calling others out on. The left has become so hypocritical that they really don't have a leg to stand on… and the funny thing is is they don't even realize this. I see this all up and down internet blogs and on tv. I have come to the point that I now ask them (when they call me or someone else a hypocrite) "Who are you to judge my/their actions?" It gets them almost every time.
This goes back to the PC conversation, simply don’t accept the premise. I don’t give a hoot in hell what anybody does in their bedrooms, but keep your sleazy metrosexual leftist claws off of my kids and grandchildren.
Let me add my comment as the fifth consecutive one in which a conservative says "I really don't give a crap about your sexual identity."
With the Prop 8 brouhaha and the ridiculous Perez Hilton, I feel like we're being bludgeoned with a big club while the perpetrator shouts "I'm a victim".
Writer/Director Kirby: What a Dick.
Growing up with homosexual uncles, homosexual friends, and probably homosexual preachers and teachers, it never occurred to me that these people wanted to marry. The women were usually the only professional businesswomen in the community, the men all had great positions, they all had lots of money and appeared to be very happy. Often my siblings and I were left in their care by our parents, who never worried about our wellbeing or had any reason to. Sexual initiations were taking place in garages and basements all over the country to every kid of 8-12 yr old, it's part of growing up. Curiousity combined with a new warm feeling in the groin does alot for one's sense of adventure !
Then it all changed, homosexual, queer, whatever the semantics demanded that a new word be coined for a new campaign. Taking one of the nicest words in the language, gay, the march started. It had to compete with alot of other marches in the 60s. Effectiveness was gauged with publicity and the louder things got, the more cameras clicked. Pretty soon it was taking hold, but got t-boned by HIV/Aids.
The momentum had to keep going as the money and publicty were now flowing, so they tucked the truth about that under the rug and kept marching. Lying to themselves about one thing led to another and now it's all about activism, but combined with the new Alinskyite tactics.
Perez Hilton is an avatar of the worst of it. It has worked some places so it will keep on going, the fascism within the gay community must be intense right now in places like California, witness Moakler's resignation. It's put up or shut up for that community and everybody they can reach out to. Desperation will rule this chapter.
Bedroom politics becomes an issue when they charge me for their venereal diseases. Make no mistake: STDs cost billions. Free sex? Fine. No public health care. They play – they pay private.
Bingo! I have been looking for a retort to these nanny-state idiots when they say that I can't smoke my cigar because of the cost burden on society, eat trans-fats becaus of the cost burden on society, can't ride a motorcycle without a helmet because of the cost burden, etc….
I personally just don't get why dems are obsessed with repubs. Unless… it could be…
Seems in recent years the only scandals Dems can come up with against Repubs deal with their sexuality. Anything to keep the public's eye off of money in freezers, investigations into earmark recipients, nephews getting no-bid contracts, Speakers who can't figure out what the've been briefed on and that sort of thing.
Oh yeah and it's easy to not be a hypocrite if all you stand for is power and nothing else.
Let's see, "Star Trek"…"Up"…. "Terminator: Salvation"…why there's even "Julie and Julia". I can't seem to find this "Outrage" anywhere on my my see summer movie list.
Good grief! You would think with all the headlines with gay marriage, gay rights, etc that our population is 50% gay. It is not. C'mon. I'm sick of the whole "victim" thing.
From 'lost': "Sexual initiations were taking place in garages and basements all over the country to every kid of 8-12 yr old, it's part of growing up."
WTF? I mean, seriously, WTF? If you think that is normal and okay, you are terribly injured by being molested at a young age. Get some help, now.
Unfortunate name, isn't it?
Kirby "Massive" Dick
Kirby "Complete and Total" Dick
Kirby "Typical Hollywood" Dick
Kirby "Probably–" okay, I won't go there.
Exactly. I don't accept the premise of their argument.
I am amazed at how instinctively my wife and I worked to remove bad practices (most Christians would call it sin) from our lives after we had children. We strive hard to be good role models and teachers to our children. I will have NOBODY usurp my role as a teacher to my child and try to instill values of which I do not approve.
And I will fight that fight harder than any other. Sorry homosexual activitists (not really).
Hm, is there anything in "Outrage" about Obama's close friendship with Don Young, the openly gay choir director at Trinity Church that was found murdered on December 23, 2007? His murder has never been solved.
I would guess not.
Bonnie I think you are right. What the hell. Thats not normal Lost. Not there is any normal but what you described is something that is def. on the other end of normal. You don't raise kids like that. You don't let people you fear near your kids. Kids deserve to kept safe, their childhoods a time to celebrate their kiddom, playing, running, toys, and puppy dogs not some perverts idea of fun. Dear GOD!
in the words of my departed grandfather: A Putz!
You know stuff like this doesn't help. Why don't these activists understand that. What about equal under the law? What about the old common sense rule of respecting privacy? What happened to that? People wonder whats wrong with America? Look at people like Kirby Dick and ponder. Look at Barney Frank and his enablers who vote for him……..
Yeah, that was a little disturbing. I'm hoping 'Lost's' comments just came out wrong.
I don't recall having any "warm feelings in the groin" at the age of eight; that was around 13 if memory serves.
Of course, that was before the internet. Today, who knows?
I hope that a massive libel suit is brought gaainst the people who produce this kind of HATE. Freedom of speech is fine but is does not give anyone the right to destroy another persons life through rumor or gossip. If someone has done something that is wrong then fine, go after them but disagreeing with someone is no excuse. This country has already lost a great deal of Freedoms already and more seems to be lost every day. I for one will never ever put up with Hate from anybody regardeless of thier political leanings. This type of filth is produced not to illuminate but to darken the hearts of those who are exposed to it.
Everybody’s Gay huh… Lost. My God man, expand your horizons into the broader community a little real world experience, perhaps?
As someone who's actually pro-gay marriage, this stuff definitely doesn't help the cause (nor do people like Perez Hilton). It brings to mind the old comedy line, "Don't just help me, sit there!"
I saw the DVD cover artwork on one of the movie forums I go to, yet it took me two paragraphs to realize what movie Mr. Nolte was talking about.
So much for marketing.
Bawney Fwank as the voice of moral and ethical behavior? Talk about hypocrisy.
" voted against … increases in AIDS research"
Really? How is AIDS a Gay issue? I thought it was EVERYBODY'S disease?
Yeah, but that works for straight people too. I don't want to pay my hard earned money to treat irresponsible heteros, who make up the bulk of the cases. I'm a college student, so i would defintely know. I have nothing against you guys, but economic common sense and personal responsibility should rule here, whatever the orientation. No one is entitled to public healthcare.
John, if this film is insignificant and incompetent, then why dignify it with a review? I, and anyone reading this review, would never have known of its existence. Is there really any reason why we should?
Ooooh, this sounds like a story. Dick should have done that. I mean, Obama could have played that card if he wanted sympathy from the gay community. But no.
Gutless. Totally gutless.
*MissQuinn*
I'm a recovered modern liberal, and I can testify, the reason for movies like this, stories like these, "investigations" like these, have nothing to do with the subject matter at hand. They could just as easily transfer the premise to left handed conservatives who pretend to be right handed in order to "fit in."
The goal is not to debate, the goal is to put up a wall of words and images that prevent any rational debate. Try this some time, find a modern liberal, and challenge them to a debate. First they will start out about why their position makes them such wonderful people. Then the volume will start to rise. Then the language will start to head south. Then the screaming of insults will commence. That's the script. No debate, no exchange of ideas, not rational debate. Silence the opposition so they don't have to deal with the subject.
Left-wing McCarthyism – When will the trials start?
or force me to wear a seatbelt in MY car!! now it's going to be even if you are in the backseat of a car…NEXT??!!
The movie is about , and should be titled: Vengeance .
Had the "out" targets promoted the ideals of the *ahem*, film maker, there would've been no film to make .
Because hypocrisy is not against the law nor absent from anyone's character, there is nothing to make a film about and so what remains ?
I know , that's what I was told as a child. . . But then I grew up.
*MissQuinn*
listening to the MSM you would THINK a lot of things that are not true!! you would believe that well over half the people in this country are completely and totally happy with what is going on in this country right now
When politicians are elected to public office, their job is to represent their constituency–not to advance their OWN agendas. So if gay Republicans are elected to represent a conservative constituencies, they are doing their JOBS by following that conservative line–they are NOT being a hypocrites. Every elected official–gay or straight–should know that their job is to represent the PEOPLE who elect them. And it seems that they have forgotten that.
Good point!
Yes it is… but when it first started to become prevailent it was thought that AIDS was a disease only found in homosexual men…. probably because it was "discovered" in 5 homosexual men… It was actually called Gay-related immune deficiency (GRID) before it was determined that it wasn't isolated to just homosexuals and then the name changed to AIDS.
If being conservative and gay makes you a hypocrite, would being liberal and straight make you a hypocrite as well?
I could be wrong. But based upon Lost's other post below, I suspect the reference to "sexual initiations" was with other kids the same age ("spin the bottle," etc.), not with molestation by adults.
That said, I too think the age range (8-12) is much younger that when most kids start to get the urge. I think most people will say their first rumblings of sexual interest coincided with puberty, starting around 12 – 13 years old.
Well, then why is it hypocrisy when gay Lawmakers vote against AIDS research?
Seems to me that such a vote might be a good thing, because then those tax dollars can be directed towards something that predominately affects gay men.
"The unceasing drumbeat is, “This isn’t about outing, this is about hypocrisy,” and yet after nearly an hour of drilling this into our skulls, Dick violates his own standard and “outs” a popular Fox News personality."
Fingers-crossed for Laurie Dhue, fully-expecting Shepherd Smith
Is gay the new Aryan? During the 1930's Nazi genetic "researchers" not only ran around trying to isolate and identify "Jewishness" but also went in search of all sorts of "lost" Aryan peoples. Himmler's theory was that once such newly-minted comrades were informed of their status they would naturally succumb to the blandishments of Herr Hitler and gravitate to the new Germania. In a wierd way that seems to be what Mr. Dick (giggle) is all about. Private life does not exist.. It is laser-like fidelity to one's race (or sexual preferance) that matters. Those who do not make their race/sexuality the central obsession of their political/cultural/personal existences are traitors, pure and simple. It also helps that this can be used against the new untermenschen – conservatives and Republicans. I can see Mr. Dick's researchers (giggle) pouring over CNN news clips and Washington Post photos of Republican "gayness" in the same way that Himmler's anthropologists scoured the world for previously undiscovered pockets of Aryanism. One thing you have to say about "gay activists" – They are truly beyond irony.
Eight years-old? Where exactly did you grow up? At eight, I was still playing with my dolls, rather. Sex simply wasn't on any radar of mine at eight years of age, nor should it have been.
There’s absolutely nothing hypocritical about being homosexual and standing by a tradition that dates back thousands of years, or thinking that maybe a child is best served being raised in a household with a mommy and a daddy.
That warm, wonderful feeling you get at the sight of a blond Brad Pitt, I get at the sight of a traditional, happily-bonded family.
For me, it's a sign of hope and preservation of traditional American ideals.
…and while the film claims their targeted lawmakers voted against laws in favor of gay civil unions and increases in AIDS research…
I stopped giving money to AIDS charities years ago after volunteering for Project Angel Food. I discovered that most of my time was being devoted to privileged, white men who seemed to care more about selling their life insurance policies, abusing drugs & alcohol and vacations in Palm Springs than fighting their disease.
And don't even get me started on the bath houses.
I'll gladly give funds to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa but American charities won't ever see another dime from me.
With everything we know today, there's absolutely no reason for a gay American man to get HIV/AIDS…..none.
Gays are about 4-5% of the male population. This is about power. Specifically, the desire for most women to push most men (think the SNL skit about "sexual harrassment" … which is when the ordinary guy finds a co-worker hot, but not when the cool, hot boss does) into an either sexless or "gay" role, the better for attractive women to pursue the various Alpha guys.
By the numbers, no one gives a damn about Gays one way or another. They are irrelevant except as a prop to bludgeon the Straight White Guy (designated villain) for a deeply feminized culture and Hollywood.
It should’ve been called: “John Kerry Mentions Mary Cheney is Gay: The Movie.”
I think you meant John Edwards mentions Mary Cheney is gay. Good column. This is one of those times I'm glad someone else has to watch this crap so we don't have to.
Great….More "Gay". All "Gay" all the time! Got "Gay" culture? Well you do now! Gay gay gay gayyyyy gay gay!
F-Off

Maybe she could be a guest if O'Reilly ever gets the creator of the L Word back on his show?
I thought you were referring to the debate when Edwards said the same thing. That's the one I was aware of. I guess something about the smarminess of actually saying it to Cheney's face made it stick out in my mind.
The greatest power is to attack someone without reason – merely ideology. That's what this film is sublimally about. It's frightening. The fact that the audience started to laugh is proof of the hidden terror of this film. They laughed because the film's 'reason' for attacking people was so ludicrous, so ridiculous that it beggared common sense. Yet – that's the real fear about this film. It has no reason, no common sense.
Think of it – what would terrify you more about an enemy? One who attacks you for a reason or one who attacks you for an ideology? You can defend yourself against a fact – that is real, it makes sense. But how do you defend yourself against an insanity? To me, there is no difference between the insanity of attacking someone because they do not support your idea of gay rights – and the insanity of attacking the Towers because it does not support your idea of Islamic rights. When you leave off reason and common sense, then we are all at risk.
[...] sight of a blond Brad Pitt in “Legends of the Fall, I have no idea what it’s like to be gay.” John Nolte, Big Hollywood in his review of [...]
What about Elton John and Rufus Wainwright who are openly gay and against gay marriage. Is Dick going to closet them???
Let's follow the lead of Neil Bortz and understand the meaning of the term we use. It is not "Public" health care. A doctor with an office that I can go see who will charge me the going rate for his services is providing "healthcare" to the "public". Something he is limited from doing under current Medicare laws and may not be able to do under Obamacare (whatever that will be).
It is "gubment" healthcare just as it is "gubment" schools. There is nothing "public" about it as you have to provide what the "gubment" proscribes.
Cranky
What if they told you it was "FOR the CHILdreN", Would that make it more palatable to you. 'Cause they are all about "TELling you it's for the CHILdreN". No Problem.
lost + 1 for this comment
However -(infinty +1) for the one above.
Talk of "sexual initiations" of eight year olds is a post that requires an FBI Agent to become involved.
They are busy people and I sincerely hope this is the case here, have better things to do with their time. Like figuring out who MJ is getting to troll the children's cancer wards for all expense paid tickets to Dubai.
I am giving you the benefit of the doubt here. But Please! that came off as too freaky and not in good way.
*** applause ***
Blank Check Bwankie rides again!
Hi Ho Silver Sweetie away!!!!!!!!!!
It is the particular type of act which can also be done heterosexually as well that lends itself to transfering the desease easier.
But why does there have to be tax money at all. If we did not extort people of their income they would have money to give to the charity they prefer including "curing Aids" and it would not be an issue for the anyone else.
"Government works best when it empowers the individual to do for themselves"
You missed the first one……..
Scooter Libby…….
Don't worry they plan on plenty of sequels,
Please don't ask me to look at Barney Frank…I am so so so sick of Barney Frank, I'd rather be waterboarded then have to look at Barney Frank again! Have mercy Lola.
If I am not mistaken was not Ernst Roehm of the SA reputed to be "Homosexual". Were there not rampant rumors of the SA being run by "homosexuals" especially the need for men to do calisthenics in public.
Was not the Fuhrer himself rumored to be part of that "clique" and the betrayal was that the SA had to be purged in order to take over the country.
I am not 100% certain of this.
So, let me get this right, assuming I can understand your tortured prose. Right-wingers who support anti-gay legislation while having same-sex sex themselves aren't hypocrites, because…um…because…um…you don't like leftists, right? Good reasoning!
so, let me get this right…GLBT people are in fact being literally bludgeoned with big clubs, sometimes in fact bashed all the way to death, but YOU'RE the victim because of Perez Hilton? Oh, get a clue.
So what's your point? that Obama was somehow involved? That the two had an affair? That Hillary Clinton killed him, after she killed Vince Foster? That flying saucers are sending you messages through your fillings? Did you even read the review? Do you know what the film is about?
By all accounts Ernst Rohm was gay as were a number of the SA leadership. The weight of historical opinion is that Hitler was not and that he had relatively little interest in sex, gay or otherwise. When Hitler purged the SA in July/1934 (Operation Hummingbird or "Tthe Night of the Long Knives") he did so purely for political reasons because the organization had become too radical. Rohm (and the socialist wing of the Nazi party) stood between Hitler and a rapproachment with Germany's business elite and military leadership. As a result Rohm had to go if Hitler was to fully consolidate his power. Some of the accounts of these events describe Rohm being arrested while he was in bed with an adjudant. This may or may not have been true since the arrests were carred out by Rohm's arch-rivals in the SS.
There's a line from the new Batlestar Gallactica. I know I know but its a good show
"All of this has happened before and will happen again"
Hmmm!!

True Holly.
Especially when you consider all the leftists that refer to black conservatives as "submitting to the white man" or "brainwashed"
…which political idealism is hung up on race/gender/sex identity and demonizes people on the other side based on these criteria????
OR you can devote more money to diseases that are MORE lethal, are not brought about by poor life choices and predominantly affect children. Leukemia, MS, CF….I have a pocket full of them.
You cannot come up with a fact-driven objective argument that AIDS research is under-funded.
….further, it's not even about the issue at hand or "advancing the movement." Most liberals are are into projects like this because of how it makes them FEEL personally.
Most have no religion, are alienated from their families, and have stagnant careers (hence all the time for "getting involved") — liberals need this stuff to feel important and accepted. They turn to activism after the drugs are no longer enough.
As soon as they find a robe big enough to fit on Janet Napolitano.
My money is on Andy Levy. He owns WAAAY too many tight V-neck t-shirts….and we never found out WHY he left the military.
Indy – I thought it would be a link to "lease" from Team America…..:-)
Eventually, any debate between a liberal and a conservative, regardless of the subject, will end up with the liberal calling the conservative a racist and/or a homophobe.
Wow, you solved that one really quickly. I'm sure their reasoning could never be that they don't believe any legislation should be passed because of the way someone has sex. I doubt that any rational person could be against "gay" marriage on the grounds that changing the definition of the word opens the interpretation of marriage to any combination of people, animals and/or inanimate objects. And before you ridicule the last sentence, peruse the contents of some of the lawsuits being filed on any given day.
"the particular type of act which can also be done heterosexually"
Not so much. It is my understanding that the disease tends to flow downstream.
And your point about tax money is unquestionably correct. Unfortunately, when 2/3 of the government is selected politically, a candidate who runs on the populist platform, of being opposed to disease, has a really good chance of getting elected.
"are not brought about by poor life choices"
Good point there. Why isn't there any outrage within the Smoking Community, for the intolerance of Democrats when it comes to funding Lung Cancer research? The answer from Democrats is "You should quit smoking."
I'm tired of having their morals forced upon us. There is a genetic predisposition to smoking. It's not a "choice" we were born that way. I'm tired of being discriminated against, I demand my rights!
"What we have here is a film posing as a moral crusade with Barney Frank and former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey as its conscience."
Wow, that is a sorry state of affairs. (No pun about McGreevey's affair intended.) I remember I was in college when the whole McGreevey thing broke, and I could not for the life of me understand why people were acting like this was such a great thing for gay people. Here was someone who cheated on his wife and put his unqualified boyfriend in a high-ranking position. How was that positive in any way, shape, or form?
Unless this documentary has actual proof – as in, if someone sued over this documentary, would a court look at the evidence and conclude that they really were gay because of photographs or tapes or video footage – it's just a lot of gossip. (To clarify, though, somebody would have a much better shot suing for intentional infliction of emotional distress than they would for libel.)
(continued)
(part 2)
Besides, let's say these guys mentioned in the documentary are all gay. How does it help gay people to out them? "Oh, look, gay people can be hypocrites like straight people!" Plus there's the fact that even if someone is gay and has gay sex, they can still believe that it's a sin. In my view that makes them more conflicted and human than hypocritical.
I have not seen Team America.
When it came out to the theaters I thought oh great another was protest movie making fun of the military so I stayed away. I am hearing now that this is not the case. Oh well
