TCM Pick O’ The Day: Sunday, March 29th
by John Nolte
7pm PST - You’ll Never Get Rich (1941) A Broadway dancing team splits up when the male dancer is drafted. Cast: Fred Astaire, Rita Hayworth, Robert Benchley, John Hubbard Dir: Sidney Lanfield BW-89 mins, TV-G
Those 63 seconds say more about this charming film than any number of words ever could. Astaire and Hayworth were giants because in a simple scene with simple choreography, simple costumes, a simple setting and simple dialogue they still somehow managed to completely win you over. The way Hayworth looks at Astaire for those first few seconds is absolutely priceless. You can’t write chemistry and you can only barely direct it. What you need are movie stars, and Fred and Rita are immortals.

Couldn't agree more.
How many stars would have the courage to dance with Fred Astair – Rita did – and looked good doing it!
I read today that many old classic movies unavailable on DVD will be sold as downloads or made to order and shipped by Time Warner. Good news for TCM devotees.
When you play that video clip — you know how they always have other videos in the same category — there's one of them set to the song I Finally Found Someone. It's so sweet. Watched that one twice.
Thanks for posting for this movie!!
Nothing against Ginger Rogers, but I wish Rita had worked more with Fred.
They did another film together that's even better and it's on at 5pm tomm, "You Were Never Lovelier," but I chose this one because I've always loved the simplicity of that clip. The way the camera just hangs on the look she gives him. The magic of movie stars, and I love me some movie stars.
Ginger is best, though, but Rita and Cyd Charisse place honorably.

Rita Hayworth was the most drop-dead beautiful, sexy, sultry movie star, ever!
LH,
That was going to be my comment! I agree, I have always found her to be the top of the heap. I loved that sultry look she gives him, there is nothing lascivious or lewd about it. Just appeal. Today's "stars" look like crud next to these giants. I also realized I need to take up tap dancing, my legs have gotten a wee chubby, and Rita's were just gorgeous here.

Another one added to the Queue. I always hold my breath when I go over there, since some of your TMC recommendations are not on DVD, and I don't have TV. "You Were Never Lovelier" was already in the queue. Thanks, John.
A matter of personal taste to some degree, but I always thought Cyd Charisse far outshone both. She was more beautiful, sexier, and a far better dancer than either Ginger or Rita. She could also act in straight parts very well, something Rogers did sporadically and was always beyond Hayworth.
Where'd you read that, if I might ask? I'd love to believe it, but I've been disappointed on such reports before…

Apologies for being so late with this info: Report on Warner Bros. old movie releases came from the Kim Komando Daily Newsletter. Go to Komando.com and click on the Daily News link, archives date is 3-28-09. The link given for the web site is :http://www.warnerarchive.com. Hope that is correct anyway. It seemed to be up and running when I visited. Good luck.
