Stand Up Notes From Flyover Country: Facebook Comment to Folks in the News
by Jeffrey Jena
Like millions of other Americans I have been caught up in the Facebook/social networking craze. I believe that Facebook is like a near-death experience except your life passes before your eyes one friend request at a time. I have been trying to “friend” a lot of people in the news, without much success. There’s been no acceptance of my friend requests from President Obama, Dede Scozzafava, Jeremiah Wright and a host of others. So in order to reach them with some timely advice I am posting some comments here. If you are on their Facebook friend list maybe you could pass them along.
@ Dede Scozzafava – When you try to stand in the middle of the road you get run over. Thanks for showing where you stand when the heat was on. Go stand in the “has-been” line behind Arlen Specter.
@ Barack Obama - Mr. President, if the trip to Dover wasn’t a photo-op or political why take a photographer along?
@ John Boehner – Nice play backing the person in the NY 23rd who ended up supporting the Democrat. It’s about values, not party, Mr. Speaker. BTW, let your office staff know I am still waiting for a reply to my two e-mails and phone calls.
@ Newt - See message to Boehner. I don’t know what your number is, but it is not 2012.
@ Jon Corzine - Monster.com or Career Builders. Too bad one of the jobs BHO “saved” wasn’t yours.
@ Kevin Jennings – If you really what to help the Prez- one word: Quit!
@Larry David – Picking on Christians is easy because they are forgiving. It’s not edgy because it has been done to death. If you want to go out on a limb pick on Muslims, you may like the Salman Rushdie lifestyle.
@ Trevor Keezer – You’re 23, you want to serve your country, enlist. You want to serve Christ, enter a seminary or volunteer at a soup kitchen. You want to work at Home Depot, do as you’re told.
@ Sarah Palin – Well done being ahead of the curve in the NY 23rd. Let’s hope folks remember who started this thing in 2012.
@ David Axelrod – Pick a date for- Action in Afghanistan, don’t ask, Gitmo, when you are responsible for the economy and when you stop blaming Bush.
@ Fred Thompson – You are not the evil Spock, please shave!

Not a photo op??? Look at the wonderful lighting. That kind of perfect lighting in the middle of the night doesn't just happen.
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Big Hollywood, Michael Chavez. Michael Chavez said: Stand Up Notes From Flyover Country: Facebook Comment to Folks in the News http://bit.ly/1cbVhW [...]
I'm not so sure that was the best response to Trevor. Your religion or lack of religion is your business.
But explain to me how the words to the Pledge on a button is any of your business.
It should be between Home Depot and him. The first 200 years it was considered patriotic for what he did.
Now you cave in to the lefts latest version of political correctness like a leaky viginia coal mine.
You may give in to you supervisor regardless of the request but foks with a sense of history and know how this country and world is being changed for the worst refuse to go without a fight. He apparently took the possibilities into consideration and made his choice. His patriotism is not subject to whimsy. Apparently Mr. Jena yours is.
Are they supposed to unload a coffin in the pitch dark?
All excellent, and the shoe fits!
Dear LL
It isn't about religon or patriotism. It's about who has the right to say what goes on in a private business and I believe it is the business owner.I don't know if you have ever run a business but I have. I am sure at Home Depot there is an employee manual that says what the folks who work there can and can't do. One of the things they can't do is wear unauthorized buttons on their uniform. Mr Keezor knew this and chose to break the rule. Fine, then man up and accept the consequences of your actions :the unemployment line.(Continued)
Don't cry that your rights have been violated. You right to free expression starts right outside the door. What if Mr. Keezor had started telling customers who he thought were Atheist that they were wrong? Is that ok? What if instead of being a patriot and christian he were a muslim and wanted to wear a button that said " When I say "God" in the pledge I mean Allah", is that cool? See here is the problem, if the employer allows Mr. Keezor freedom of expression in the workplace he has to do it for all, and then you have chaos. BTW I don't believe there is any evidence that Home Depot is a "leftist" organization. The danger in starting to brand everyone who doesn't do what we like 100% of the time "leftist" is that it starts to become like when the left says "racist". Got it?
If Mr. Keezor worked for me I would be happy to let him wear the pin. Now, where do you work? Do you get to do, or say whatever you want whenever you want? I'm guessing not. Do you really think the folks running Home Depot are some of leftist cabal? Do you get to pick and choose which of your supervisors orders you obey wothout consequence, o if you own a business do your workers get to do only what they want to do at work, again I think not. All the best
The point I'm trying to make here is the Pledge of Allegiance IS in the manual as something that is not allowed to be displayed. If he has broken a rule then he will pay for it I sure. I say he has taken that into consideration. I repeat for 200 hundred years it would not have been a consideration.
This is a nation under GOD and its written all over the nation etched in stone in most every monument
and state and federal edifice in every state in the union along with every coin in your pocket. These federal and state buildings do not say peace be with you or all hail the Rev Moon. It is a matter of rights and not just Treviors but eveyrone in this nation that cares about this nation. I don't care if some ACLU member or some lefty Judge says or does about one of our freedoms I intend to make it known if its wrong its wrong. Political Correctness or some lefty inspired law be Damned. Got IT?
When will this man finally make a decision in Afghanistan? Is he that deliberately against our military – watching the coffins go by ….I had a really nice nifty humorous comment until I looked at that picture – I am disgusted.
God Bless our Heroes in Afghanistan and Iraq !
@ Joe Biden – You really should do something about those delusions of adequacy you're having.
obamas eyes followed the camera at Dover….
He is not showing up for the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism because A) he believes his side lost and B) the Germans wouldn't let him speak last year and use the Brandenburg gate as a backdrop to criticize the United States. He only views life as what is in it for him..
Fred Thompson doesn't need to shave; he's Rip Torn's younger, taller brother.
There's a BIG difference in lighting where you are going to place your hands and feet, and lighting so you can't see what you're doing, but the camera has good definition on its subjects…
But hey, Barry LOVES to see himself. Watching a documentary about himself while Rome burns, I mean, elections are being tallied…(Correction: Gibbs said he wasn't watching himself…sorta)
I told you they took out the mirrors in the WH so they can actually get him to do work…but he has one in the room where he's making the decision about the troop request for Afghanistan…
"My Precioussss…nasty little hobbitsesss took you away, but I foundss usss again…."
Yup.
Look carefully at the lighting…level front-lit for good facial fill-in, no shadowing on the faces, and a top-left bounce so the honor guard wouldn't throw shadows across the Prez as they passed. A great lighting job.
For a camera.
For work, you light the work space downward and with a little side so you can see your footing and handles on the caskets, so you won't slip and fall, or drop a hero accidentally…and keep the glare out of your eyes. The lighting you see here is hell to see through…but it makes for great film…look at the shadowing behind the officers…all side and a little top left…
Maybe if people liked you, they would be your friend jena. Or maybe if your comedy and politics weren't crap.
Now his business is comedy no one cares about.
Re: Dede Scozzafava ~ hilarious! Maybe I've been living in a cave but I've never heard the expression "If you stand in the middle of the road you'll get run over." Simply fantastic.
Larry David is waaay to much of a wuss to pick on anyone *except* Christians.
@Robert Gibbs ~ was Obama watching himself last night or not? Get your story straight from the beginning, you are looking mighty foolish these days.
@Nancy Pelosi – Your days are numbered.
President Photo-Op and his phoney salute.
What did this cost the American tax payer?
@NRCC – Can you hear us now?
LL I have to admit I could not find a copy of the HOme Depot employees manual online but I am willing to risk dollars against donuts that The Home Depot makes no mention of the pledge, just that employees may not wear unauthorized things on thier aprons. I too believe we are a Christian nation. You however ignored my larger point, are you allowed absolute freedom of expression at your place of work? No one is. It's not PC, its common sense.
Dear Try
I agree with the previous comment that the lighting is too perfect not to be staged. A pox on this man for using the bodies of our bravest as a photo op! Maybe, just maybe, that is why other presidents have kept this out of the press.
Rip, to quote C Montgomery Burns- excellent!
Rick,
How nice to hear from you. You can flush a turd but it will always bob back up somewhere, nice that you are still reading and supporting Big Hollywood. Thank you!
Janine——–MOOOOOOOOOOOO!
someone must like him, we are all in here agreeing with him.
That lighting comes from the cargo bay of the transport. Obviously you've never been on a military base.
Keep digging. Your credibility is down there somewhere.
Ok here is my question, isn't it improper for the president to Salute when he hasn't served in the Military? He is suppose to place his hand over his heart as a salute to those in uniform, and only salute when saluted by another member of the armed forces since he is the CIC.
Military Service or not , when NOT in uniform the proper salute is always hand over heart. Formal salute is only when in uniform.
Not the lighting I saw. If The light shinning on the faces came from that cargo bay then light has learned to bend 180〫.
@ Barack Obama – Mr. President, if the trip to Dover wasn’t a photo-op or political why take a photographer along?
It's the other way around. The President has a photographer, and he looks for places to have his picture taken. "I know, lets do something to make it look like you give a rat's ass about the brave soldiers you're boning in Afghanistan!"
Agreed. Just as I have a right to march into my bosses office and quit for any or no reason, my employer has the same right.
Where your button to work, put in it your locker, then put it back on when you leave. Situation solved.
Agreed. An employer purchases one's labor, not their opinion.
Before I started working from home, I kept one, small, crucifix on my desk, out of the way, not in any one's face. And one of those small Bibles in my desk. Had my employer requested I remove them, I would have agreed and done so. I'm there to work, not convert.
I like Billy Beck's line better.
You can lead an idiot to ideas, but you can't make the think.
@Telepromter of the Untied States ~ Can you lighten it up a little bit, please, enough "I", "Me", "Mine."
"Mr. President, if the trip to Dover wasn’t a photo-op or political why take a photographer along?"
One of the grieving families gave their consent to the AP staffer who took the photo since they are (no longer) banned from Dover. It was not at the request of The President or his staff.
@ Jeffery Jenna -Do your feet get tired of being shot?
@ President Onero stop diddling while Afghanistan Burns
I just sent a note to your personal site regarding our " discussion" yesterday which essentially read as follows:
I apologize for for being so harsh in my response to your article.
I believe the business owner has every right to determine what his employees wear
whether or not the specific issue is in the manual.
My reaction was that a button with a portion of the pledge of allegiance would be an issue
just shows how much our country has changed. I believe your heart and mind is in the right place and my indignation was a bit out of hand. I enjoy your articles and hope we can get on
with our life as it is mean't.
It's disgusting that the very person who can directly affect the saftey and effectiveness of our troops in Afganistan DOES NOTHING because he is cowed into inaction by radical leftists, which is what he really is, our stealth Muslim-in-Chief.
Without reference to himself, he would be reduced to "uh, er Bush, previous, inherited, duh, der, Harvard- no really, I have a paper thingy a , a," "you mean a diploma?" "YA, dat it, derploma."
"@ Sarah Palin Well done being ahead of the curve in the NY 23rd. Let’s hope folks remember who started this thing in 2012."
You mean who caused a seat that had been held by the Republicans for 100+ years to be lost to the Dems? GREAT JOB, SARAH
I'm trying to look you up, see ehat you've *accomplished*. All I can find is some big fat guy rapper named Rick Ro$$. Is that you?
Are you a big fat black guy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Ross_(rapper)

I don't usually reply to a reply, but I wanted to let you know I've spent a lot of time on Navy and Marine bases. My husband is retired Navy. I'm also a photographer and you should notice the lighting is coming from the left (which might be what you are talking about) but look at the shadows there is a strong light coming from the position of the camera highlighting his face as if it were in a studio. If you bring along a camera crew you bring lighting too, I think my credibility is intact!
Rick,I'm trying to look you up, see what you've *accomplished*. All I can find is some big fat rapper guy named Rick Ro$$. Is that you?
Is this the *single* from you up coming *album*? "The first single is entitled B!tch I'm The Sh!t"
.
Are you a big fat black guy that ~raps~? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Ross_(rapper)
Say Jeffery, I have a question. Is Rick Ross a big, fat, black rapper guy? That's only Rick Ro$$ I can find in a google search.
by dems? liberals it is NY
"but look at the shadows there is a strong light coming from the position of the camera highlighting his face as if it were in a studio.
The light source in question? Could it possibly be a flash? Coming from the camera? Used by a photographer? Because of darkeness?
Yes, I now indeed see a conspiracy of a photo op. Why couldn't President Obama just stay away from Dover altogether like his predecessor?
Remember Clinton's photo op, the rehearsed arranging of pebbles into a cross on the beach at Normandy?
Democrats last had the seat in '93 – do the math. If the RINOs hadn't put forward a candidate that was more liberal than the democrat – would have been a very different story. Way to be aware, dude.
Source please? If you can source your claim does that make it right for the Prez to use it for a political photo op
Because you have the right to do something does not make it right.
You know everytime I see that putz salute, it makes me ill. Am I a racist? Or just someone who is married to a military man who knows what the men and women in uniform put up with everyday. yeah I think that's it.
I got news for you there, MIles. If Scozzafava had won there STILL would have been a Democrat in the seat. Get past the R's and D's and look at the candidates voting records and personal philosophies. She a democrat she just hasn't taken that bold step from the closet.
@ Jeremiah Wright–So's yo mama!
@ Glenn Beck-Get well soon.
@ Al Gore–9 errors in a theory cancels out that theory!
@ Valerie Jarret—SPEAK THE TRUTH TO POWER?? You are IN power!
Well, maybe not "right" to someone will grasp at any straw to gin up somebogus outrage since not quite everyone shares your sentiment, including those who were at Dover that day.
p.s. Good luck with the Bishop Fenwick High School in Middletown, it must have been hard to turn down the Improv to do that gig.
Sheesh–you're wrong; the Republican party had represented that district since the 19th century.
But Drie it's definitely good to know that the Republican party is willing to lose elections for the sake of ideological purity. Should make the next few general elections easy!
@ Barack Obama – Mr. President, if the trip to Dover wasn’t a photo-op or political why take a photographer along?
He's a shamless, nauseating user. You're right. If it was not a photo-op, why publish the photos? Presidents have virtually everything they do photographed. They also get to say whether they are published.
One would think that walking the same halls as all but President Washington have walked, a little respect and regard for what's done and not done would have rubbed off by now. But at least he's been consistent – iPod for the Queen; CDs for Brown; bow to The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques; "Stupid cop;" dissing Fox…it's all getting predictable. What's next? A Smithfield Ham for Netanyahu?
He could have gone, paid his respects, and let the press release go out without photos. That would have shown a modicum of class, something one does not learn in Chicago's mean streets, from his potty-mouth-fish-mailing Chief of Staff, and, as we have come to learn in recent years, certainly not at Harvard.
Obviously, leg, you haven't either…
But I have a pair of wings that says I did…
The left bounce is from the ramp, not the fill…
Go hump a ruck, civvy…
It isn't "book proper", but they all do it…
Bushes both served, have crisp snaps, W especially…
Clinton had a half-hearted "Yup" as a salute; "Yeah, I'm here…"
Obama reminds me of a recruit…"Like this?" Very uncomfortable…
Reagan was part salute, part wave…but he meant it…
As former USAR, I don't mind…I know who means it, and who doesn't…
Dude, the family TRAPPED the Prez over the Afghan question, telling him to get off the dime and support the troops…
Presidential pressure to get what they want is very hard to resist…the question is, when does he do this when there isn't a camera around?
*crickets*…
Miles, Mr. Hoffman came within 5% of the vote to win…after only campaigning three weeks, against the NRCC and a heavily financed candidate of theirs…who then helped make the case against putz RINO DIABLO candidates by endorsing her Democrat opponent…
Owens will now have to run on his backside-licking record, (if he wants to be relevant in DC with Pelosi), and Hoffman will punt him right into the lecture circuit come 2010…
Exactly.
What evidnece do you or JJ have that "proves" that it isphoto op?
You've got dick. An ignorant person is one who without the benefit of all available knowledge on a subject nevertheless opines as if fully informed, thus exposing your ignorance. You're merely stupid, which is worse, because you (and JJ) formed patently ridiculous views based on freely available information.
Now go get your shinebox, you Mil-spec poseur.
The President had his photographer with him. There were 15 families receiving the remains of their loved ones who made the supreme sacrifice.
Out of those 15 families, only one granted permission, and that's where this photo came from.
I believe it was Liz Cheney who said in an interview, Bush used to go down to greet the planes all the time. He just never took any photographers.
There's is the stark difference between this president and the last one.
His predecessor didn't stay away. He had enough class to not turn it into a photo op.
This was nothing but a disgusting attempt to create the impression Obama is actually concerned with Afghanistan.
It's no coincidence this photo was released the day after the story broke about Obama playing more rounds of golf in 9 months than Bush did in 8 years.
The president polishes his image, while Americans soldiers die, for the sole purpose of trying to keep the far left on board for his socialized health care vote.
Disgusting.
Bull shot.
If Obamacare passes the house, we'll have a chance to see the democrats doing the same thing.
