Stand Up Notes from Flyover Country: Obama’s Recycled Speech
by Jeffrey JenaPresident Obama has shown his commitment to the green movement by giving a speech which contained 100% recycled material. Here’s the deal, if you call a big special meeting and invite all the press, a bunch of Senators and Congressman… if you make Ms. Nancy fly her Gulfstream off to get a new pantsuit and a Botox shot or two and ask 300 million Americans to tune in, you should say something we haven’t heard before.
There was a lot of leftover campaign rhetoric about bringing us together. The old “I’m bipartisan as long as you are willing to agree with what I want,” was in there. We got a shot of McCain smiling haplessly like he did when he suspended his campaign to go to Washington and get the financial crisis straightened out. President Obama hit all the talking points about what is and isn’t in a piece of legislation that really isn’t even written yet. Hey, who doesn’t like a little magic? At the end there was even a little recycled Kennedy too.
I will say there was one new figure in there. The President said there were 30 million uninsured Americans. In July he put the number at 47 million. Just by talking about health care reform for three months we have reduced the number of uninsured by more than 33%. If we just continue to talk, at this rate everyone will be insured by March! That’s change I can believe in!
Let me finish with a note on the behavior of James Wilson of South Carolina. Boorish? Yes. Uncouth? Yes. Disrespectful? Absolutely! Should he be reprimanded? Yes, right after Ms. Nancy relieves Charles Rangel of his committee chair for tax evasion. I ask you which is worse, being a rube or giving a daring digit to the IRS.
Not long ago we learned from Mr. Biden that paying our “fair share” is patriotic. Perhaps Mr. Rangel just isn’t that into patriotism.

Another fine post Mr. Jenna. I particularly liked your reference to talking our way to universal coverage. I am willing to live by the dictum, innocent until proven guilty. My worry is that like the main stream media, investigation into wrong doing by a Democrat will be modest to non-existent. What really ticked me off was listening to Axelrod the other day completely dismiss allowing private carriers to compete across state lines. What a joke.

The reason that the number was reduced by 33% is because there is a recession going on. 33% of the uninsured went back to Mexico………
The only thing worth watching in this speech was to count how many times Pelosi beat Biden to the punch for standing up first (and vice-versa).
There's nothing new here, of course. Same old liberal playbook. Same old tricks.
The only significance difference in the Obama version of this show is the intensity of his leftward push. This is a big deal.
At least we all now have a better idea as to what Obama meant by "change for America". I don't think that anyone is surprised by this. One of the inescapable facts about our present "Great Communicator" is that he doesn't have a lot to say. Certainly he has been economical with the details and long-term implications of his proposed health-care reforms. In fact you can't really call them "his" reforms since there are now about a gazillion health-car bills being bruited about in Congress. Victor Davis Hanson hits the nail on the head today in an article on National Review Online.entitled "Barak Obama – College Administrator." Professor Hanson succinctly describes Obama 's worldview as that of a cloistered university administrator who views the U.S.A. as a "campus" to be managed. He rightly ascribes to Mr. Obama the attitude of the hectoring college president who endlessly repeats the same policy points over and over again to the same in-house audience. It's a very apt metaphor and one that will loom even larger in the months to come.
He has only one agenda and that is to totally transform the USofA, into something that would be unrecognizable to our founding fathers. Too sad for words.

We shouldh't laugh about it really. This guy showed up on five different TV shows + Letterman. He changed his number from 47 million to 30 million. He has also gone around saying that the opposition to his Health care plan is because the other side is mis-informed.

The poster who praised Victor Davis Hanson's analogy to Obama being a college president was correct, the column is right on and available through a link at realclearpolitcs. That explains Bam's finger wagging and his lectures about the time for bickering being over, his threat to "call out" critics (will they be sent to the Dean's office or be suspended?), his call for civility and indulgent forgiveness of the bad student behavior of Joe Wilson, his elitest vacations (need to hobnob with rich donor bigwigs), his condemnation of Israeli settlements (who is the bogeyman on elite campuses?), and his kneejerk defense of the highly tenured Professor Gates.

He HAS to reduce the number of uninsured because his math was patently ridiculous. Adding 47 million new insured and having it be net cost neutral was too big a lie even for HIM to continue to float. He's trying to massage the message to get it to be palatable.

Speaking of truth today, the Senate voted that it will NOT require the Health Care bill to have time to be read by Senate members or scored by CBO before the vote. John Kerry states that it would make no difference because he and other Senators would not be able to understand it anyway.

Unfortunately, Israel cannot afford to wait until this US administration changes or comes to its senses. If their existence is threatened they will be forced to cooperate with other powers, and in any case act without regard to our interests or consent.
