Charles Krauthamer's column today (June 19) hits the nail directly:

Obama is ready to trade taking advantage of a brief window of opportunity to bring about the downfall of the Theocratic thuggocracy which has destabilized the Middle East for the past 30 years, and which is one of the prime sponsors for Islamo-fascism worldwide, in the vain hope of getting a photo-op of himself with the chosen stooge of the mullahs signing a nuclear treaty, the terms of which the Iranians will break before the ink had dried.
God have mercy on those brave, doomed Iranian people so bravely taking to the street. Their blood will be on The One's hands.

What I find amusing and sad is that only now the left suddenly seems interested in human rights abuses in Iran. I notice that HuffPo is all ga-ga over the new film that came out recently criticizing the treatment of women by Islamic fundamentalism, and all my Lib friends are suddenly being righteous in their anger at such abuses. I guess now that the President is critical about such things (or at least "the right kind of President" for I seem to remember the last one being of the same opinion) it's now fashionable to be critical of such extremist regimes. My question to the Libs is this: Where were you when Ahmed Batebi was being held in confinement and tortured? Where were you when people like Ayan Hirsi Ali was calling for action against such abuses? Do you even know who Ahmed Batebi is? What about Theo vanGhoh? He and Ali made the first film protesting the treatment of women by fundamentalist Islam. Oh but they were the "wrong kind of people" I guess. The fashionable hypocrisy of the left disgusts me.

"All the Iranian protesters want is moral support from America. All Obama wants is to be excused from giving them that support. Sorry, Mr. President, but you can't vote "present" whenever the going gets tough."

Even Democrats in Congress are expressing support for the protesters:

<a href="http://michellemalkin.com/2009/06/19/iran-showdown-supreme-leader-tries-to-quell-rebellion/" target="_blank">http://michellemalkin.com/2009/06/19/iran-showdow...</a>

Hence, I couldn't blame the general public from eventually concluding that the President is either indecisive, self-centered, or too sympathetic with Iran's dictator.
