Are We Witnessing a Greek Tragedy?
by Jeffrey JenaI was watching the President at Notre Dame a few weeks ago and hoping that one good Catholic student would rise in defense of the church and the unborn and do what the Jesuits teach best, question authority. I wanted just one strong Catholic woman to respectfully express her disappointment with the school’s decision to invite a man so at odds with many of the teachings of the church. It didn’t happen, or if it did I didn’t see it reported.
As I watched the address, and many of the events since, I realized that what we are all watching is the unfolding of a classical Greek drama. It is interesting to note that the early Greek tragedies started with a song of praise to the god Dionysus who was known to inspire ecstasy and madness. Perhaps our unfolding modern drama was begun by the mainstream media’s song of praise for Mr. Obama. Aristotle thought a good tragedy should arouse both fear and pity … anybody with me yet?
The first element in a classical tragedy is the noble hero or protagonist. The hero must appear at first to be perfect though he has a fatal flaw. The hero is driven to accomplish some great task but his flaw will make this go horribly awry. The protagonist in our tragedy is Mr. Obama. He is the modern Oedipus tortured by his abandonment as a child by his mother. He craves the love she showed for causes and others but not him. Rejection by his mother caused him to doubt his worthiness to be loved and develop low self esteem. I know that might sound a little nutty — how can someone who has risen so far have low self esteem? Many overachievers are driven by that same flaw. This character fault also may have led him to experiment with drugs and alcohol in his early years.
At the same time he seeks the approval and love of that dead parent, Mr. Obama tries to prove that she was wrong to reject him. His desire to achieve has brought him to see his destiny as being a leader and a man that commands respect. He first tried to find this in community organizing and then in politics. His rise will prove his mother’s rejection of him to have been a mistake. His drive to achieve and win love and affection from a distant and cold mother is also what keeps him from denouncing his old friends like Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright. If he rejects those who have accepted him he will be exactly like his mother when his whole life is a struggle to prove he is not.
The next element of tragedy is hubris. The hero feels entitled, that his abilities will allow him to overcome fate and to violate moral law without consequence. Mr. Obama, also like Oedipus, is afflicted by the sin of hubris. In Ancient Greece that overwhelming sense of pride and entitlement was considered not only a character flaw but was a crime. The Greeks felt that pride often led to poor judgment and unnecessary acts of violence against ones enemies. Acts of hubris were often hypocritical and would, in Greek drama, eventually lead to the protagonist’s downfall. We see this in Mr. Obama recent “date night” in New York City.
During the months prior, the President had been critical of corporate executives excesses, especially for their flying around in private jets. He mentioned it several times during the lead up to the bailouts and when auto industry executives came to Washington. Yet he sees no problem or hypocrisy in his taking three jets on personal business to New York. It might be interesting to note that the Greek word for actor was “hypocrites,” which is the etymological root for the English word “hypocrite.”
That is where our drama stands after almost five months. The stage is set and we are at intermission. So what comes next? While President Obama dabbles in auto manufacturing, health care and giving speeches in Egypt, he doesn’t see or hear that the chorus is singing a song of warning. He is distracted by his false nemesis; be it talk radio hosts, corporate executives or whatever boogie man is convenient at the moment.
In classical tragedy the next element is catastrophe, the event that leads to a complete reversal of fortune. What will that event be? For Obama, it is hard to say – but there’s no doubt that in his mind it will not have been his fault.
In “Oedipus at Colonus,” the theme is personal responsibility. Oedipus, like Obama tries to put the blame for the actions he has taken elsewhere. Oedipus blames ignorance, fate and the gods, Obama has George Bush and even, in a recent essay by Obama apologist Paul Krugman, the Reagan Administration.
Aristotle tells us a good drama is resolved with catharsis. Our feelings of fear and pity are relieved when the hero sees his mistakes and experiences rebirth. In Greek it is a called a “knowing again,” a change from ignorance to knowledge. In the end the hero meets one of three fates, he dies, he is exiled or he must gain some awareness of what has happened.
Let us hope it is the last!

Brilliant!
No, I'm sorry I'm hoping for exile….in a land far, far away. Thank you for a thought provoking read.
I'm not sure what the Jesuits have to do with this. ND is staffed by the Congregation of the Holy Cross. (And what sort of example would the Jesuits be anyway? They're in charge at Georgetown!)
Well played.
I think all the Catholic Universities are now forced to feed at the government teat at this point.
They have little to do with Catholic values and are secular institutions reflecting the elitist control
Jeffrey, I think you're being too kind. I wonder if the guy isn't a little more 'flawed' than even a Greek tragedy would allow and the country slumbers.
Great article Mr. Jena. On a side note, the etymology of the word 'tragedy' is 'goat song'. Goats are very coordinated and can climb and hold their balance in the most precarious places. You can learn more about goats from the American Goat Society (initials: DNC)
I've seen goats get themselves in strange places, and I've heard their bleating. I've also seen and heard liberals…at the risk of repeating myself, I leave it as an exercise for the reader to try to distinguish between the two.
Hmmmmm… perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought the Jesuit order was created to defend authority; they were to be the Papacy's intellectual "shock troops" against the Reformation.
Will have to double check that if I have the time this weekend…
I hear Mars is nice this time of year. That should be plenty far…………
Another Greek parallel: "Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad." And right now, Obama is mad with power.
The powers-that-be at Notre Dame had to choose between God and Mammon. They chose Mammon–the God of federal funding. The only protests occurred outside the hall, where several Catholic priests and their supporters were hustled off by the police. Catholic priests, at a Catholic university forbidden to enter the hall where the strongest and most powerful American advocate of partial-birth abortion was preparing to speak. The angels must be crying.
The Jesuits ain't what they used to be — the Counter-Reformation was a long time ago…
"Sisyphean challenge" comes to mind when I think of what the next four years under the "Greek Tragedy" in-waitng will be like………………………….
Correct me if I am wrong on this, but didn't Notre Dame loose hundred's of thousands of dollars in support from the alumni who where upset over Obama's visit?
Anyway I'm not so sure it was money. I think the Notre Dame "powers that be" were simply scared of what the backlash from the MSM would have been had they un-invited Barry……..
Brilliant
Good analysis. However, I think what we have in our hubris ridden leader is worse than just the normal everyday Greek tragedy. Not only is the man searching for meaning, he's also repeatedly killing (or at the very least, minimalizing) half of who he is. He's half white. Ask anyone who is mixed race (me included) and they'll tell you that unless they can somehow come to love BOTH heritages, or find some sort of validation outside of cultural affiliation, they fight an internal, eternal battle of trying to hate and love themselves at the same time. It's a cultural schizophrenia. And you know how I can tell he's trying to kill the white half of himself and has been for a long time? Look at who he chose as a mentor: Jeremiah Wright–purveyor of white hatred for at least 20 years. His white associates? Bill Ayers–intent on destroying the status quo. Yeah he has hubris out his a$$ but it's a quirky kind of hubris not normally seen in your basic Greek Tragedy.
There were more than just priests protesting, Hawk. Alan Keyes was there with a group of protesters as well. We just didn't hear about it on the evening propaganda.
I'll be in Northern Ca in about a week. I'll say a prayer while I'm down there!!
I fear the next element of catastrophe, will be ours and not the hero's.
I like your idea but these people are simply too paltry for tragedy. Their story is something else; perhaps a not- yet-invented genre? Or just real life, which bleeds across the borders of all forms and yet in the end always and likewise arrives at a reckoning. You are right to assert that the reckoning will be unhappy for us all, and they will reject responsibilty for it. Whatever else that is, it is Leftism.
Great read Jeffery!
Good point, Bennet Marco….
That quibble aside, it was an excellent post, Mr. Jena… BHO's presidency as a Greek tragedy. I just hope its not TOO prescient.
Exactly. A spoiled little boy and a bunch of adolescent jerk-offs playing cream on the cracker over how much he sounds like them.
I knows how you feel, bro; I am three-quarters Scandinavian and one quarter British….
And let me tell ya… buttered scones and lutefisk are NOT an ideal combination!
All kidding aside, that is an interesting point… hadn't considered it before. Deserves some serious thought….
Excellent post!!
I'm for exile in Cuba. He wants Socialism, let him live it somewhere else!
WOW – another GEEK tragedy from the comedian NOBODY has ever heard of ………….Jeffie-poo Jena.
Actually…it's not a tragedy – just more GOP sour grapes. …and this story about Notre Dame is about a month old now – but GOP freaks are always weeks behind the times , if not years.
The rest of the world is really, really, really sorry you lost EVERYTHING in the election 140 days ago…but's always fun to read another pandering + loooooong article about your sour (Greek stuffed) grapes!
As always, this meandering book fifthe grade report has NOTHING TO DO WITH HOLLYWOOD. ~ and the only thing BIG is your stupidity for being a dogmatic Republican!
OK – you can pick up your Mutual Admiration Society blogging all night long. Should be a great night ! – because all we know Republicans don't have anywhere to go on Saturday night, or Friday or Thursday or Wednesday or EVER!!!!
That was classic – "the big feta" refers to this as "fifth grade" yet uses the term "Jeffie poo Jena"
Another 14 year old Obamatron.
I love that metaphor! You missed the part where Oedipus murdered his father on his way to power. I think we could fit the American Military into the role of Daddy (and I am not being sarcastic, either.)
of course, Oedipus finally understands that something is wrong when his kingdom suffers plague and ruin.
Right after my own heart. Obama's hubris is so thick it follows him around like Pig Pen's dust cloud in the Peanut's cartoons.
So how do you explain yourself genius? Tell me, do you even know who Aristotle is? Ever heard of Oedipus? I won't hold my breath. Now go back to Mommy's basement. The jiffy pop is done and your rootbeer float is melting.
Hubris, indeed a sleazy Washington/Chicago politician type of ooze… dripping from his jowls, as the reining king of horse $hit bumbles into oblivion taking our great country into a tail spin. This is definitely a dude that hates his other self, as you say “cultural schizophrenia.”
Excellent read, Jeffrey. Very intelligent commentary.
Get lost. You sound like you're about 14.
Maybe it's just mentally.
No. A Greek tragedy is defined by a mythic figure, undone by one fatal flaw.
BO has so many flaws, I have lost count.
Thanks for sharing. Feel better now?
Back to the Huff Po with you.
Interesting post. Obama's narcissism has driven him to seek the spotlight his whole life, but his mediocrity cannot survive it.
If I were a student at Notre Dame, I don't know that I would have asked a question, either. Look what happened to Joe the Plumber.
More republican sour grapes is right.
This post about "the O" actually reminded me of Iowahawk's epic poem "the Idiodacy."
I'm hoping the actual tragedy will feature Obama being hooted from office in 2012. After he pre-maturely reveals the full power of his activated fully functional Death Star (e.g. national healthcare) people will be so fed up, Republicans will nominate the equivalent of a political Luke Skywalker and send him back to being a community activist and poker buddy with Bill Ayers.
I love how the feta fifth grader spells fifth and makes full use of all those capital letters on his little keyboard.
So cute.
I had some place to be tonight but your mom cancelled………..Said she had to wash more diapers for you!

I believe the Jesuits were founded by St Ignatius of Loyola in the mid 1500's . They were sort of the original support group. The modern Society of Jesus is rife with the Catholic Church's answer to the Rev. Wright. They believe in the social gospel. The church as agent of socialist/Marxist type change in society.
I would be wiling to bet there are more that a few lurking around ND.
I have friends who went to the 'alternate' graduation that happened across campus. There were a good number of students who attended this instead of the 'real' one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nCT86eQfAM Fr Frank Pavone who leads Priests for Life lead it.
This is one of the addresses given. You can find more under Fr Pavone's account.
Yes, there were a lot of protests, all over the country and on campus. Petitions were sent through the Newman Society, letters written from irrate Catholics everywhere, and about 14 million in revoked alumni pledges of finanacial support for the University.
You just didn't hear about all that in official Obama Media Press releases.
And there still ARE a few good Universities that are still really & truly Catholic. Franciscan University of Steubenville is one, and so is Ave Maria. There are a good number of Catholic colleges, small and faithful, like Belmont Abbey College and Magdalene. They are there – you just have to search carefully and be very careful to find them.
If you are far enough north in California you should be alright. It's just when you start to get down towards the middle along the coast that things a little nutty
Hubris, too true JJ, the fatal flaw, but we are not the audience for this greek trajedy, but the destroyed self-victims.
The Jesuits, the warriors of the authority of the church, do not run Notre Dame, but they have now mostly switched allegance to the new chuch of leftism.
Yeah, that's the big brain trust that is liberalism.
Obviously, this clever boy never got a good mark in 'plays well with others' or " pays attention to the teacher" and is still resentful.
I’d say 14 would be about right.
I like that……….Nothin like a good "Geek Analogy"…..
Chaucer: Pride goes before the fall. (Edwards/Pelosi/Obama)
Psalms: The righteous man is beset on all sides (Bush/Cheney)
No need to bring the Greeks into this.
"Yeah, that's the big brain trust that is liberalism"
So true. Everytime one of these obviously retarded children shows up I think to myself, How the hell did we lose the election to these "Brain dead turnips"….
Was the voting public on all day drinking binge on election day? Really? Am I on candid camera?
Just wanted to thank all the readers for their kind comments. Especially those who take on the detractors from the other side of the aisle.
Please note, dear readers, that none of them ever dispute facts or offers an alternate idea. It is always invective and anger. When I argue with someone who is very off base I don't get angry I rely on the good judgement of the audience/reader to see the facts and logic. Remember way back in 2000 when Bush beat Gore, do you remember any anger from the right?
BTW "sour grapes" cited twice, also comes from Greek Lit. , Aesop's Fables They use the reference in an incorrect manner. Sour Grapes refers to something not obtained which is then seen as undesirable. Not exactly the right metaphor here.
Step up your smack, PRoGros
what is a greek tragedy without sexual abandon?
But you're home on a Saturday night….alone…. Getting in some quality time with the computer?
Awesome post.. Though I must say that the image that pops in my head when I see Obama is Rome burning while the big O plays the fiddle.
Not as much as you! Ignorance is bliss.
Greek Tragedy Blows–
So then by default, you would have to agree that all the liberal fruitcake, kool-aid drinkers bellyaching during the 8 years of the BUSH / CHENEY years was also "sour grapes"?
Or is it only "sour grapes" when it's Republicans doing it?
Please write back so we can all see what a total hypocrite you are.
He strikes me more as the boom box type, but maybe that's just me.
"the original support group" — LOL!! Jeffrey, you just warped my view of history.
This "Special Champion" Obama?
A Tragedy
"In Plato's 'Republic', Socrates describes the early weeks of the new leader's reign:
'Won't he smile in welcome at anyone he meets, saying that he's no tyrant, making all sorts of promises both in public and in private, freeing the people from debt, redistributing land to them, and to his followers, and pretending to be gracious and gentle to all?'
[...]
First, those of us who are incapable of self-mastery will always shamefully prostrate ourselves before messianic political leaders. The progressive left in America has spent countless generations destroying the guardians of our inner citadel: religion, family, parents, and tradition – in short, conservatism and limits. When we exhaust the financial and moral capital of previous generations (and future ones, as with the current stimulus bill) we will dutifully line up at the public trough, on our knees. Citizens capable of self-mastery will always choose to be left alone. In other words, they'll always choose limited government.
Second, freedom without limits paves the way to tyranny by undermining respect for the law. When politicians play fast and loose with the law it becomes easier for them and for the people to see special champions as alternative sources of rule [...]"

The self-loathing detractors reflexively introject Critical Theory and Liberating Tolerance.
They offer no alternatives/solutions because they have none.
But, it makes these Olympians *feel* special(er) to simply tear down.
Modern Liberalism (statism) really is the result of a mental disorder.
Yes Obama is a joke and will destroy this country unless the idiot class wakes up and returns the Republicans in 2010 and 2012 to keep the messiah in check. But no matter how far this narcissistic Marxist falls, or how much damage he does, Satan’s Handmaidens of the State Run Media will do everything in their power to protect him and blame the Republicans.
When it comes to covering Obama, the media in this country are guilty of "Journalistic Fellatio!"
Illuminating! Beautifully written, clear and concise. Thank you, Mr. Jena. You've answered an important question about Obama—part of the evidence of His fatal flaw are documents and records that have to be hidden away! He must not let any documents be revealed that would prevent Him from accomplishing His great Task. And,,,, that is the "remaking" of America so that He can completely subdue the white dog from within and without!! Thank you Driefromseattle. The big bull's eye Obama is pinning on Himself with every apologetic speech and every radical policy may serve as a prophesy for which of the 3 outcomes will be His fate.
btw–Brian Williams said to capitalize all of the pronouns referring to the president. I did.
So they gave aid to those who had no clue?
(Remembered a comedy sketch about "Medieval Tech Support" that is probably somewhere on YouTube. Unless he meant some other support group.)
Hubris almost always (I will say always) results in a downfall. Seeing the error of his ways? Not likely. I was having a discussion similar to this (and not involving Obama) with someone yesterday. We both found personal examples of people who were just nasty "get theirs" later on. Of course when you have an individual who is power hungry and narcissistic one can only hope that he doesn't take the country in, ugh, a Gotterdammerung and instead has just personal difficulties.
Goats will swallow anything and everything…….just saying……
I'll see your Medieval Tech Support video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRBIVRwvUeE

Keith Olbermann Blows…Obama!
I've taken those sort of calls.
Primer, Obama won by about seven million votes. That's a LOT of people who voted against him.
Perhaps all the decades of heavy LA smog in the era of leaded gasoline really did do long term damage.
I've made those sorts of calls.
(Just kidding, for being a lawyer, I am actually quite tech savy. I've even traded in my quill for a ball point pen.)
Are you thinking that Nancy Pelosi must be a really wild one?
Liberals and liberal posters, lacking in original thought or logical reasoning, have been raised on rhetorical talking-points instead of arguments and counter arguments. So, when you produce an argument the only way a liberal knows how to respond is the way Keith Olbermann would respond, personally attack the person with a variety of ad hominem attacks. Attempt to personally destroy a person for speaking the truth. Revealing that liberals hate truth. Why do they attack different opinions so violently … from all sides … with everything at their simple-minded disposal? Look how Obama attacks any dissent or criticism. The man's skin is too thin. Obama is Nixon on steroids! Nixon had character flaws but his heart was in the right place. Nixon loved the country more than himself. And, when Nixon had to go, he left … quietly. Obama hates the white part of himself, therefore, the country. I was thinking earlier tonite, Obama's only been in office five months can the country survive four years! Then, I read your article. It has answered some questions about Obama because your article makes sense. The pieces fit the puzzle.
I think we are seeing a comedy not a tragedy. The tragedy comes later.
Your premises, arguments and conclusions are all sound. It's just that I have difficulty seeing Barack Obama as a human being at all, and that for me renders him outside the scope of this kind of analysis. He's more like some kind of android, programmed to read a teleprompter and make all the right gestures, but unknowable beneath the surface. Rush Limbaugh reads this as intense anger, and he may be right–but even sympathetic observers (Charlie Rose, Tom Brokaw and Chris Matthews come to mind) have noted the creepy detachment and singularity of Obama. The more radical he reveals himself to be, the more chilling this becomes.
I can see him trying to play it cool and pretend to listen to jazz. But you know he really wants to pull out the old boom box.
Racist!
It appears what he will be doing meanwhile may involve music, perhaps Pink Floyd, and is a remnant of his "misspent youth." I am starting to wonder if he keeps making these frequent out-of-town trips, official and otherwise, to make contact with suppliers. Remember his giggling interview when he was asked if he was punch drunk? Not exactly. It may explain why he is so oblivious to so much going wrong all around him.

Ave Maria developed a top-notch law school almost overnight.
That seems to be correct about the alumni losses. But the federal funds are many times that great. I suspect they were willing to take the chance. Every two or three years I get ticked off at my alma mater (UC Berkeley) and stop my alumni membership and donations. Then I relent awhile later, and start again. I have a feeling much the same thing will happen with Notre Dame alumni. The backlash from the MSM was probably more of a consideration. Good call-out on your part.
The source of warfare in this old world has always been spiritual, with bloody temporal manifestations. As time runs out, the spirituality of living things becomes more apparent; especially in leaders chosen. For good or for evil? Small or great we each live by the choices we make. There is a signpost up ahead…
Yes!! If he died the Buffoon in Chief would become president, and that would be a tremendous disaster. And there is nowhere to exile him to….

There are Catholic religious orders of many titles which own and operate Catholic universities. The Society of Jesus (Jesuits) may be a prominent one, true, but it doesn't own 100% of all of them. A bit of fact checking could have verified this.
I think "the tragedy" is that we maybe do not have a generation, or generations of people with enough critical thinking and civics responsibilities skills to thoroughly investigate candidates and the issues at hand before they vote on such people for high office. Further "tragedy" is how this puts our nation's economic and foreign security at risk. The "comedy" is how the current president seems to feel his presence and words and speeches are what others in various settings seem to want to hear, vs. true leadership, how little time he seems to spend working in the Oval Office, that seeing a photo or video of him in some setting represents "he's working" when increasingly it seems it's what he thinks people want to see/hear, style over substance, sizzle vs. "where's the beef". Further "comedy" is that the current president flies around, makes sure it's high profile about his "date nights" and where they are spent, while corporations employing thousands of people are closing, merging, going bankrupt, having to be bailed out by someone back in the US. He says one thing, poses with certain people, in front of microphones and cameras, lives different. Prior presidents, I'm sure, had "date nights" to reconnect to their spouses and families as husband, father and family man, and it was a private family matter. Why is it we have to know "date nighst" in the Obamas marriage at all, and it costs so much in taxpayer supplied airplanes, security, logistics, closing things off, to get them to their "date nights" in New York, Chicago, Paris, wherever? Whether that last is a "comedy" or a "tragedy", haven't figured out the nuances of yet….
The second act will be written some time around 2010-2011. President Obama's fall from grace will be had, swift, & the media–at first–will try to piece him back together until they realize they need to regain some semblance of credibility. The corruption & stench on Obama will be so thick that other Democrats will attempt to distance themselves from the disaster.
President Obama has several weaknesses: Hubris, arrogance, & a bloated malignant ego manifested as narcissism. Obama's own hatred for America will hasten his fall. Americans will abandon him in droves.
The only question is what will cause Obama's fall from grace? It could be the economy &/or something related to national security.
This essay is spot on, but still lacking in overall scope. Yes Obama's mother was a worthless whore, and he knows it. But the true "tragedy" is much grander in scope. Christians, we must WAKE UP and realize we have been placed under a Satanic mind-control.
We have lost the entire nation to Marxists. They won folks, just as they said they would. Khrushchev said their children would bury us, and without firing a shot. They did it folks. Game over.
Now do you want your country back, or not? If you do, the first step is come out of denial and admit the truth…that our nation, our culture, everything we love and hold dear has been STOLEN from us. We can't move forward until we break their mind-control and end the denial of reality.
As i watched the campaign I thought "Man this is one f*ucked up egomaniac." it wasn't a campaign it was a psychological cry for help. if i had met this guys back when I was on the dating scene (20 years ago btw), I'da known him as the "worship me" type. And he's in charge of the country! Yecch.
Well Jeffery I think its an American tragedy. It is where a group thinks that if they impose enough onerous laws and rules they can level the playing field with the rest of the world and show that we aren't better. With Obama, like Carter, we have a man who is desperately trying to tell us and the rest of the world that we are second best and should be following and not leading. You are correct in bringing in the socialism. That is the reason they believe we are second best. The American tragedy is that the next conservative elected will help get us on track and over come all the social spending without doing away with the social spending. Then we will go through the cycle again only next time the social spending will have grown to large to over come. Reagan and Gingrich couldn't slay the dragon of social spending and if we don't kill it soon, actually get rid of medicare drug plans and the ponzi scheme of social security, eventually it will over come us and will not be fixable.

But Francis was a wise Army mule. It seems quite possible he would have been recruited by the CIA. Thus not only does he not symbolize your current hometown, I suspect if he would meet Nancy Pelosi he would likely want to kick her in the head.
Although it would explain why she forgets details from CIA briefings, among other things.
Looked at from the perspective of modern psychiatry, one forms ones sense of independent worth and ego as well as the genuine ability to have a sense of compassion through the interaction with stable loving parents, particularly the Mother. Severe absence of this securing and connecting point is at the root of sociopathy – essentially a lack of any sense of conscience or genuine sense of other people. Moderately severe absence of this securing and connecting point is reflected in various more primitive personality disorders – narcissistic or borderline personality disorder. The former centers on projecting one's self as the most important element of the world while the latter centers on extreme internal instability and the need to balance ones inner chaos by creating a reflective external chaos. Obama is a 4+ narcissistic personality disorder. Center of his own universe. Narcissists can often be enormously successful in tapping into the allegiance of normal people because they are able to project unlimited self confidence and have that sociopathy-lite freedom to say whatever is needed with seeming sincerity to suck in other people. No coincidence that Obama has been able to attract projection fantasies on himself as being the One, the Messiah – from insecure people who lack confidence in their own lives and need to have an external exemplar to rely on. Narcissists have very thin skins, like Obama, and are impelled to attack opponents as devalued and worthless, responding in an emotional manner rather than with facts and logic. Narcissists feel an absolute sense of self-righteousness and justification and feel above the rules. The French, German and other European leaders are pretty sophisticated and see through him, as does Netanyahu, even if their populations do not. In the long run, narcissists fail because their lack of any ability to reason impartially and to focus on facts and logic beyond their personal fantasies lead them to overplay their hands.

I think this is coming too, but you underestimate the media's commitment to this administration's success. It is total. They've already jettisoned credibility or any semblance of "objectivity" in an existential gamble whose outcome depends entirely on synergy between itself and a leftist-controlled state. In exchange for carrying the government's water it gets whatever's necessary, up to and including nonprofit tax-exempt status and taxpayer bailouts, to maintain its ability to create the illusion of consensus around liberal policies. Even liberals themselves understand this, which is why more of them tune in to FoxNews than CNN or MSNBC for information.

CK, What you suggest re: the inability of We The People to think critically and act responsibly is a fact. I believe the reason for this critical irresponsibility is the fault of Babyboomer parents (like me) who, themselves, were nearly if not completely ruined by the Cultural/Sexual Revolution of the Sixties; and whose offspring, now of voting age, came of age watching mommy and daddy practicing the 'Boomer philosophy: if it feels good, do it. While 'Boomers like me were indulging ourselves, the true-believers of "the revolution" were entrenching themselves, as they said they would, in every Great Institution of our society.
When Mr. Obama's endless campaign for higher office reached the presidential stage, he told David Axelrod, "I believe I can win this." Axelrod believed the newcomer because (I believe) Axelrod knew Mr. Obama was speaking as a ruthlessly successful candidate and Community Organizer who understood that a tipping point had been reached: there were now sufficient numbers of "voters" who would act more on their FEELINGS than THOUGHTS. It's not for nothing that Mr. Obama is quick about paying off ACORN and UAW; the "march through the institutions" has been orchestrated through AFL-CIO affiliated union membership. The Federal Bureaucracy is composed of such union members. Mr. Obama wants to increase their rank and file.
I am a born-in-1946 Babyboomer and the blame for Mr. Obama's ascendancy (and people like Mr. Obama) can be laid at my feet and the feet of millions more like me who fiddled in the muck of self-indulgence while the Socialists/Communists were digging in deep. I snapped out of my self-indulgent coma as Bill Clinton attempted to redefine the conjugation of the verb "to be". Now Mr. Obama is attempting to redefine our way of life. Whether or not he will succeed remains to be seen.
December 12, 2012 is roughly 40 days after the next POTUS Election. The Mayan Calender and The Revelation of Jesus Christ, the last book in the Bible, clearly describe what will befall the entire world when this genetically fatally flawed anti-christ is revealed for what he really is for all the world to see….like Damien, a spawn of the Devil. He and his followers, a third of the world's population (Muslims = 1/3 of the world's population) will be vaporized by the Second-Coming Christ while saving Israel at Armageddon. Rejoice Believers for the End is Near, stockpile your good works in Heaven, for this World is done!
The gathering storm is obvious to anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear.
Please prove this Thesis wrong! BHO bros violent responses are expected as it is their nature!
You are spot on about the increasing chill. Obama's TelePrompTer is so skilled, during the campaign, people actually were believing he would govern from the middle. I think Limbaugh is correct in his assessment of the Obamas. I think they are driven, at least in part, by a need to obtain pay back from the people who have been "exploiting" them all these years. The more I think about it, I don't believe "O" could possibly have been a member of Reverend Wright's congregation all those years without being a lot closer to Wright's philosophy than he was publicly admitting. He is a slick speech giver, but his actions speak for themselves.
