Wanted: Hate Mail From Liberals
by Jeffrey JenaI’m collecting material for a book called, “Hate Mail from Liberals.” I always enjoy a great obscenity filled tirade devoid of any facts from a supporter of the guy who was going to change all that. Those lovely folks on the left who wanted us to join in the love fest of coming together and respect for different views. Those masters of tolerance.
Some added personal threats against me and my family always lets me know I am saying the right things. The things Janet Napolitano and her backers want to silence.
If you get hate mail and want me to include it, I would love to have your submissions. I got two great ones this week. The first was written by a guy off his work computer. I happen to be a stockholder in that company. I wrote a response to him and pointed out that he may want to be a little cleverer about the place from where he writes. He wrote back and apologized and asked me to protect his name and place of employment. I told him I would since my intent was not to cost a guy his job but to school him on the ways of the Internet. I also wanted him to know I could take a punch and still be a gentleman.
He was responding to my piece, “Beware the Earth Day Scam.” Here is part of my reply to his mail in which he called me a few names and said I should lose my job:
… words like “idiot” are important too! The definition of an idiot is someone with an IQ of less than 25 and a mental age of 3. Since I can operate a computer, teach at a university and am more facile with language than you it must be apparent that I am at least a moron. Please let’s be fair! A secondary definition of “idiot” is someone who engages in foolish or silly behavior, like writing angry political letters from his work computer.
It’s also interesting that you chose to insult me with an ad hominem attack rather than give a reason for your dissatisfaction. This is a reaction I find to be typical of leftist activists. You are in good company, Janeane Garafolo, Sandra Bernhard, Keith Olbermann, and Rahm Emanuel.
Furthermore, I am a comedian and the piece was a satire. It is very funny but you don’t see the humor because the environmental cause is a religion for you. I am not trying to convince you or convert you but simply to hold you and your absolute faith in the green movement up to ridicule. As a conservative and Christian I am used to getting it from the left and as a comedian when it is well done I can even laugh because I have a sense of humor, something you may lack. You may want to consult a good therapist.
Now get back to work and make me some money or I tell the guy who has a bigger cubicle than you what you are doing on company time.
Today I got a letter from “Rex.” He was upset about my stance on torture. He calls himself “rex reason,” the King of Reason! Instead of a reasoned and logical counter to my article, I received the following which I publish here without correction or editing.
Are comedians supposed to be funny? Was the piece you wrote about torture supposed to be funny? Or was it a rare detour on your part to comment on a serious topic in a serious tone? Or was it supposed to be funny? Cuz it wasn’t funny, nor was it even reasonably accurate, so what exactly were you trying here? Not funny, not accurate…were you trying to be lame? Because it really is a lame piece, Jeff.
Have you ever read the U.S. Constitution? Check it out sometime, it might be illuminating to a caveman like you. You’ll find the original hanging in Dick Cheney’s bathroom, next to the toilet, on that paper roll holder hanging on the wall.
BTW, I already know your wife’s bedroom safeword. She told me that whenever you do something she doesn’t like, she calls you “faggot” and you back off.

While, I’m not surprised a liberal would not respond with intelligence and civility, what does amaze me is that they don’t see the hypocrisy of what they write.

What amazes me, is though you are a seemingly clever man you seem to suffer from the same myopic viewpoint as the "liberals" you cite. Janeane Garafolo, Sandra Bernhard, and Perez Hilton??? When did they run for office? Do they have hour long prime time television shows discussing politics? Do they have popular political blogs? You can't just point to washed up comedians and a gossip columnist and call them activist. Glenn Beck is an activist. For every crazy Garafolo quote you can come up with I can cite one from say… Hannity.
How did Rahm get thrown in there? What did he do – cuss in a closed door meeting? I will grant you Olbermann though. I couldn't defend him any more than I could defend Hannity.

You should ask Michelle Malkin about her hate mail. As a minority woman she gets some dandies. They might get your book an X rating or whatever the equivalent is in the book world.
To be quite honest, your picture, at the quality displayed, reminds me greatly of John Lithgow back when he was on 3rd Rock from the Sun. When I read your words I hear his voice and delivery, and it magnifies my enjoyment of your writing more than mere printed words by an un-pictured author could entice, making your articles a much-anticipated feature on this site.

Glenn Beck and Hannity, whether you like them or not, actually offer reasons as to why they hold the opinions they do, and it doesn't come down to not liking the other side or calling everyone a racist. I don't go out of my way to watch Gr-awful-o or Bernhard but I have been subjected to several of their diatribes. Bernhard said Sarah Palin should be gang-raped for crying out loud! How does that come close to comparing to Beck or Hannity? I've never heard either one wish physical violence on someone they don't agree with. They Left tries to hide behind "satire" or "comedy" but all it is is unvarnished hate. Not comparable to Hannity or Beck at all. I hope Jena includes the public tirades of hate from these people. They should be held accountable for the garbage they spew.

Heck, when Wall-E was new at the theatres, their was a thread for it on our server forum and my husband said it was a really good movie and lauded it sex ways from Sunday. However, he made the cardinal mistake of wishing in his final paragraph that the overt greenie, enviro-nut message hadn't been so strong. He got his own PM'd hate mail from a resident libbie gamer over just that small two sentence comment. All the usual right-wing, planet destroying, Big Oil, McChimpy Bishilter stuff. It was amazing.
All you have to do is imply that you might not be like tham, and they'll swim up out of the depths. Don't worry about finding material for your project. It's everywhere. This comment thread alone will likely provide some.

Find the worst of the worst video snippets from each side… string 'em together 10 or 20 snippets. Let a bunch of conservatives collect the most damning Liberals tirades. And, let a bunch of liberals collect the most damning Conservative tirades. Put the two collections side-by-side. And, just SEE which collection communicates more hate.

First I have not heard of this Bernhard quote. Sounds horrible. My point is she was last famous in the 1980s and no one listens to her. She doesn't have a TV show on Fox News or MSNBC for that matter. We could go back and forth on Hannity or Beck but it would be pointless. I will say though that Keith Olbermann also has reasons for his opinions like them or not. I never watch his show. I think he is a left-wing huckster like Beck is on the right. Beck used to be a shock jock (think Howard Stern) before deciding conservative radio was more profitable.

Instead of playing quote war how about I just say Michael Savage. Try to see my point here. Garafolo is interviewed on Olbermann's show once and all the right wing blogosphere is up in arms. Liberal hate! They all cry. Savage is nationally syndicated hate. Get the difference?
But if you put that much liberal hate and stupidity into one book, you run the risk of ripping a hole in the space time continuum (it's called an "a-hole"). Once you have an a-hole, all kinds of liberal garbage will come spewing out.
I don't watch Olbermann, but I do know he has a "worst person in the world" segment– doesn't he? I don't believe Beck or Hannity have anything that comes close. I think if you were to look at Lefties who have media outlets (and Bernhard got lots of press for her attack on Palin that she did during a one-woman show; that's how I know about it) you would see a lot more personal attacks and name calling. Beck is over-the-top and Hannity is too partisan in my opinion, but they are usually gracious to people who don't agree with them. Hannity shared a stage with Alan Colmes for years and was willing to debate the issues on facts not by shouting the other guy down. They sometimes engaged in heated discussions but I never heard any name-calling. Too many people like Gr-awful-O are given platforms by the Left (as her appearances on Olbermann and Maher show) to sit there and just call anyone who disagrees with them names while the audience applauds in agreement. I just don't think the two-sides are the same at all. I like to point out "The View" as a representation of how much attention the Left gets in relationship to the Right in the media– though I can't bear to watch the show anymore. You have, what? 3 Libs and 1 Conservative? I think that sums up the media bias out there pretty well actually. And isn't Behar just a sweetheart when she's calling everyone names? Does Hasselbeck do that? I doubt it. We'd sure hear about it if she did.

I always understood a gentleman as someone who showed manners, particularly towards women. A gentleman would never threaten or demean a woman. I also understood a gentleman as a person who would DEFEND a woman, especially his wife. So Blarty, what are you? Or do I even have to ask- I haven't seen a liberal gentleman in about, oh, 25 years.

If your current title is a working title, you could have a title contest and offer a prize. Maybe Big Hollywood would give a free pass to the comments section complete with collapsed threads that seldom work right! (OK, that was just a little frustration on my part.)
Packaging: you could market to either Libs or Conservatives here. I see a completely useless brown or dull green paper band around the book. On it could be something like "made from organic Earth friendly materials" and it would come with a little bag of trail mix.
Or, if you do use a title like "The Left's Big Book of Hate" you could have a mirror under the title. Libs pick it up and see what they really hate, conservatives pick it up and see who the Libs hate. It's a win-win!
For the Right Side buyers it could be leather bound with gold leaf. Your picture with the author's bio would have you posing in an expensive smoking jacket (doesn't matter if you smoke), inside your home library with an American flag somewhere in the room and maybe a picture of Reagan on the wall.

The clear fact of the matter is that the Left projects. They call the right racist, when they themselves insist on putting people into racial catagories and discriminating on that basis. They accuse the right of censorship on issues like porn, but activly engage in censorship of political speech (the only speech that really matters) in their defining of "hate speech" and "intolerence. They claim to value civility, and then scream the inane "no tolerence for intolerence!" whilst physically attacking young republican bake sales (where, incidently, white males are charged more for a cookie then everybody else, just to prove a point). They claim to value the person, and care about Liberty, while seeing the world through a collective prism that dehumanizes us all and negates the very concept of an American citizen.
We never get pie either, and that's the crux of the whole problem.

While I will say that I don't expect every one to find me funny, (I often tell my writing and performance students that's why they put numbers on horses, different people like different things) I will step up and defend Dr. Savage. while he is way right I don't think you can give me a "racist" quote. While you may find some of his opinions unsettling and srongly disagree with him I don't think he has ever spoken against and race. Please prove me wrong. Quote must be given in context and not cherry picked like the recent controversy over Rush's "I want Obama to Fail " quote.

Several weeks ago, one of our members referred to anti-fascist as "Auntie". From there, in a bored moment, the question followed — "my Auntie knows how to make pie, do you?" Since that time, Auntie has done everything humanly imaginable to avoid answering that question. . . thus, blowing this question way out of proportion and giving it a life of its own.
Now we're just having fun poking fun at Auntie (and sometimes the other trolls) with it — it seems to frustrate the heck out of her.

I'm only 22 so I probably shouldn't be making any grand judgments about the world at large, but at the same time, What kind of a man has to demean women in order to make himself feel better. Being funny is fine but that wasn't funny. That was just misogynistic. My mom has always taught me that all women should be respected. Yes women like guys who are strong willed and independent minded but that's VASTLY different than being a repressive and misogynistic jerk which that guy clearly is. No real man would EVER feel the need to demean a woman or talk down to her like that. If you need to talk down to women in order to make yourself feel better, then nothing else could possibly explain or show better how pathetic you are as a human being or how far away from being a REAL man you are.

while we know some conservatives that are upset- even extremely unhappy- we certainly have not seen even a scintilla of the 'hate' spewed daily by the left done by the right. Generally speaking conservatives are pretty happy people as compared with liberals who are generally miserable (ABC-Pew poll 2008, amongst others)

Savage on Mexicans and swine flu.

Liberals are fascists. Instead of goose-stepping while wearing brown shirts they now goose-step while wearing green shirts. Dissent is no longer tolerated under the Barack Hussein Third Reich. Hussein seems to have more in common with the other Hussein, Saddam, than with the American people. Like Saddam Barack wants a "truth" commission. Like Saddam, Barack wants dissenters intimidated. Like Saddam, Barack blames America for all the worlds ills. Like Saddam, Barack wants to be a dictator not a president.

I once left a comment at the Variety website. You can choose to have your e-mail shown or not. I chose not to have my e-mail shown, but a reader (or someone from variety?) got it anyway. I received an email calling me every name under the sun. When I emailed the person back employing sarcasm and not acting shocked, it only inflamed the person who insisted I MUST be shocked at being called a c*#@ who has sex with various barnyard animals. That's the extent of the hate mail I've received. If I were a blogger I'm sure it would be more impressive.
