Bashing the Right: The Last Hope For Fading Stars
by James HudnallThe best way to tell if a celebrity is on the downward slope of their career trajectory is when they start making partisan political attacks during concerts or interviews. Then you know they’ve boarded the train to has-been land.

Take John Cleese for example, a comic legend, member of the shrinking Monty Python troupe, he of “Fawlty Towers” fame. One of the funniest shows ever made. His contemptible elitist rant in this video reveals him to another rich snob who thinks those beneath his station, who don’t concur with lefty cant, aren’t real people. And any news station at variance with his world view is nothing but propaganda of the worst sort. Even though Hillary Clinton said Fox News treated her more fairly than any other news station in the 2008 primaries.
Well, we know Cleese is in his dotage, so let’s pick a younger target. How about Jennifer Lopez who called Sarah Palin a “la cabrona” on MTV. Lopez is one to call people a bitch, considering her reputation. Takes one to know one, Jennifer? Or perhaps bashing Palin is the new Bush bashing. In the world of hack celebrities, it’s like a “hey guys, I’m cool, because I hate Republicans” membership card.
In this club of irrelevance, it might get you a high five from other ideologues. But it also brands you a hater. The public is tired of partisanship. They’ve had ten years of screeching rage from some of the most dimwitted, hypocritical blowhards imaginable. All of them have the common bond of a sneering belief in their own moral superiority, even though most of them have been guilty of every kind of abuse under the sun: physical, mental and drug. This “elite” club is full of admirers of mass murderers and totalitarian dictators. It’s a club full of people who mistreat their assistants, who make imbecilic statements with abandon, then turn around and tell us how we should behave or vote if we want to be “good”. I have two words for those people, the second one is “you”.
What they fail to understand is how partisan attacks, especially their fans, makes you unappealing to a large part of your audience. You know, the people who pay your bills?
Yes, many of these celebs may be so rich it doesn’t matter anymore, but it reveals an ugliness in their souls that will be remembered long after they’re gone. It becomes part of their legacy. And even rich egotists don’t want that sullied.
But since many of them lack the brainpower to even grasp the simplicity of this argument. I will explain it in a homily they might understand: “Hating others does not make you beautiful. It makes you ugly.”
Many celebs have seen their fan base drop as they get older while others accrue legend status. Why? A large part of that is the ones who don’t go around attacking others tend to be liked more. People are not drawn to negative vibes, except the self haters. And again for emphasis, people are sick of partisanship.
If you want to look like an old, out of touch hack, start insulting people and show us how much you hate. Works every time.

Nothing wrong with true debate and opinions about subjects. Ad hominem attacks have no place in intelligent debate.
I loved his comment about Obama being able to immediately improve things. HAHA!
This guy was funny, about 30 years ago.
JLo…you'll never get another dime from me! I really liked your perfume but now it's taken on a putrid smell, very unbecoming but then so are you these days.
"It’s a club full of people who mistreat their assistants, who make imbecilic statements with abandon, then turn around and tell us how we should behave or vote if we want to be “good”. I have two words for those people, the second one is “you”."
Well said! I honestly believe that most Americans believe this as well. If we still go to the movies it's because, well, we like escapism and I think you'll find that, other than Avatar, the American people have shown that they like movies that are NOT partisan and don't have a message bashing you over the head.
Hopefully Hollywood will someday catch on. They could make millions if they did!
The big question I have J-ho, is why? Sarah Palin is not governor of AK anymore. She has already stated she does not want to run for president? So, why an unprovoked attack? She won't be able to answer because what Mr. Hudnall wrote is true. It's just a way to prove to her peers that she is deserving to be in the clique. I love how these people are so threatened by a wife & mother. lol! It is so amusing to watch them squirm.
Maybe they should be a little more threatened by insulting their fan base. Get some more botox, J-ho, it hasn't addled your brain enough yet for them to commit you to the has-been sanitarium.
Jlo is a Ho, I have never and will never spend my hard earned dollars on her trashy, self indulgent movies.
OK….conservatives like myself will absolutely boycott anything "JLo"…including her skanky perfume. My conservative cash is mine to spend as I please (or until Obummer steals it from me).
The only way, ultimately, to send the message to these crazies is to NOT buy their products. If we buy their products, we are complicit in their agendas and the destruction of our civilization that they promote.
We can get alone fine without Jennifer Lopez, but can SHE get along without any fans?
I believe you have something there. Some time around the late 70's and early 80's it seemed to change from loyal opposition to flat out, full bore hatred.
Easily recognizable name.
Great article.
There was a time when the true "legends" of Hollywood kept their personal beliefs (and lives) to themselves. They entertained us with a film, then quietly went back home to thier families until their next project.
I wish more of them did that today.
JLo has been struggling for awhile to get back into the limelight with no real success, so she falls back on the default position of has-beens everywhere– bash Sarah Palin. Why not? People actually pay attention to Sarah and it's not like JLo has anything of interest to anyone; including things like talent or intelligence.
Another great article from Mr Hudnall. Fortunately, I'm already boycotting J-Lo. Not because of politics, but simply because she is a marginally talented cow who's entire career has been built on the size and shape of her ass.
The topic brings me back to the world of comic books. Last month I was looking at a "preview" for one of Marvel's new "Siege" books and- I'll be darned- "teabaggers" were portrayed as a symptom of some larger menace… involved in the story. WTF?! Now I'm torn. I have dropped several individual Marvel titles over the last few years because of constant conservative bashing but now it seems you can't avoid it in most Marvel titles… So I'm finished with all of Marvel Comics after being a fan for over 25 years. Sucks, but I just won't pay to be insulted anymore.
We all have to vote with our dollars.
JLo has always been hungry for public admiration. She should shut her mouth and work on achieving OTVIII so she can get her superpowers.
J-lo that bedraggled old skank is still with us, who knew?
Maybe it's that I'm half italian/half latino, however I only liked Jennifer Lopez when she was one of the Flygirls back on In Living Color (coincidentally when her rear was pretty enormous as well).
I have two words for those people, the second one is “you”
———————–
I wonder what the first word is?…. : )
obama is still saying we haven't been listening to him so he will give another speech on wednesday to explain it…one…more…time
Now listen up all you bitter clingers…pickup driving…
You have to understand that most people lack the specific education to have real debates.
Note that I'm not calling people stupid. I'm not an elitist, a misanthrope, or a pessimist. I think mankind is inherently flawed and can only achieve betterment through their own positive action. And I think the majority of people try to better themselves. But the scope of betterment is infinite, and our abilities/interests finite. Thus, someone who may know a heck of a lot more than me about fixing cars may not know anything about economics. Yet where I have no opinion on fixing my car other than "please do it right, cheaply, and quickly", many people with little to no economic education believe they understand it and can make authoritative statements about it. This is true of virtually every complex subject. In fact, the more complex the subject, the more people who are ignorant about it generally have an opinion.
I don't know – Hollywood is full of "celebrities" still in their prime who delight in doing the same things. What ever happened to discretion – keeping your political views to yourself and away from your customers (ie, audience).
I recently saw "Come Blow Your Horn" with Frank Sinatra. What a great movie and it had a small part for Dan Blocker, of Bonanza fame.
He was always my favorite character on that show.
I read on imdb that he was really a far leftie – who woulda thunk? Even supported Eugene McCarthy, and during Vietnam was so angry moved his family to Switzerland.
But during his heyday I never heard any of this about him. I am sure that one could learn of this but it wasn't "really out there". He had the class, discretion and intelligence to not polarize his audience.
It is good to read an honest assessment of the loony left that infects Hollywood. J-Lo calls Palin a bitch!? Too funny, let's compare J-Lo's photographs she has taken over the years to Palin's (not the photoshopped ones either)…think there's any differences? Palin is a natural beauty (both internally and externally) doesn't need to expose herself or deride others. J-Lo has to hire an entourage of assistants, stylists, hair dressers, make-up artists and assorted other suck-ups to get attention. And that's what drives people like J-Lo crazy.
What's worse than J-Lo's attitude and comments towards someone that has done nothing to her? Her fans that scream and shout out in agreement with her. They are many, many times more pathetic than J-Lo.
I have no problem with actors and actresses having their own political opinion… but when you start bashing a person that represents a political idea or the people that follow and believe in a political idea… it just makes you look bitter, uneducated, intolerant and ugly…. and I don't like to support people with those chacateristics I just described… It's why I refuse to watch anything with Clooney, Damon, Portman, Garafalo and the list is unfortunately growing…. and people look at me weird when I say I refuse to watch anything these people are a part of… I hate that the list is getting larger… I guess I will just have to read more books, they are more intertaining and imaginative anyway.
For about the past 3-4 months, it seems like every time I "surfed the net," I came across headlines about Jennifer Lopez. People magazine had the most pathethic attempts to garner attention by Lopez that I have seen to date. Some of them were so lame, that I expected her to schedule a media event to announce that she had taken a shower. Just over and over and over. I knew, then, that she was floundering, and had probably hired a new PR firm to help salvage her career.
Her Palin bashing simply confirmed what I had suspected. Poor Jennifer…all that money and clingers-on, and people are starting not to care.
Who is the old lady in that photo? Yikes, makes me think of the old expression…"that's mutten trying to look like lamb".
You're selling Cleese short, Bud… "A Fish Called Wanda" was only 22 years ago.

I wonder if they were compensating for electing Jimmy Carter to the Presidency.
I sorta wish I had paid for one of her many products in the past so I could stop buying them now. I just never found her to be the least bit interesting.
Several years ago I was working on a film in Hollywood. We were filming a scene in a famous recording studio on Sunset Blvd. We were asking the engineers about the computer software they use to clean up the off-key sounds that emanate from so many pop-stars mouth when someone asked who was the worst "singer" they had to deal with. All three of the engineers immediately said it was Jennifer Lopez. One engineer said," she comes in, does one or two takes that sound like someone stepped on a cat's tail and then we go to work." Another said the only thing worse than her voice was her arrogant attitude.
I haven't bought a ticket to a film in three years. After Goodell hypocritically nudged Rush out of the bid to purchase an NFL team I stopped watching NFL football. The lack of the NFL or movies in my life simply opens up time for more worthwhile pursuits. By the way, I don't watch ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, HLN, or CNN. I fired the Charlotte Observer and Newsweek YEARS ago. I won't buy products made by GE, Heinz, Pepsi, and the list goes on and on. Does it matter? Not to me. Does it matter to them? If it's just me, most likely not, but if it's a million others? What do you think?
The only way to shut these people up is hit 'em where it hurts 'em…their wallet. I won't watch anything that has Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal etc. etc If we Conservatives banded together and let Hollywood know we're sick of all the America bashing they might think twice. John Cleese has regrettably been added to my ever expanding black list. J-Lo never had enough talent for me to care about her acting/singing or her politics.
What did she do to herself. She's starting to look like one of the Gabor sisters, but not as good-looking.
betcha Sarah makes a WHOLE bunch more money this year than J Lo…
and will look better doing it, as well. We'll take her five kid 44 year old carcass over J Lo's bubble butt any day and twice on Sundays!
We can't really blame some of these celebs. They're like lemmings, elitist lemmings.
I was deep in the far left in those days. Reflecting back on it after all these years, I would have to say it was a concerted effort to tar and feather Reagan and the GOP. Not that the GOP hasn't done a wonderful job of that all by itself.
That's the earliest time I remember when it was known (not spoken, not written, but just understood) when it comes to politics, right was quarantined.
The saddest part of this phenomenon to me is that these old leftards are staining their legacy with these idiotic rants. Especially sad in the case of Cleese, because Monty Python hit the US when I was in high school and Fawlty Towers is my favorite Brit sit-com ever. Now whenever I watch reruns of those shows, I'l always have, "what an impossible leftard," in the back of my mind.
It amazes me that these oafs are oblivious to this.
Jennifer Lopez is a very large ASS.
I think that Avatar is popular not because of the story, but because it has become an "Event." Truly, the actual plot is re-heated Pocahontas. As Roger Simon has said, it is an example of incredible advertising.
As the Right bashers are dimming celebrities, notice, too, that most of the outspoken Polanski supporters were unemployed actresses (although working actresses who supported him were probably told by their publicists to keep their mouths closed). Lopez, evidently, didn't consult with hers, first.
The last movie I went to see was Titanic. I got rid of the tube last June. You want to watch and attempt to justify it? Go ahead. SOMEBODY's got to keep the sewage employed. Right?
I have yet to understand what La Lopez has done with her life that should command the recognition and fame she enjoys.
Why do you think the call it the left coast.
Absolutely, Henchman, but I've taken that a step further–I don't go to movies AT ALL and haven't in almost 10 years. I tell you, if we Just Said No and stopped patronizing movies in every form, both theater and rentals, all of us could bring Hollywood to it's knees and in a surprisingly short time, too.
Kudos to you–
Note that I'm not calling people stupid. I'm not an elitist, a misanthrope, or a pessimist.
That's ok, I'll do it. I am pretty much the last two, since I don't know what elitist means.
People are stupid.
Sorry but as much as I agree with you on Paul Newman's class despite being a lib,Robert Redford is a huge lib and has said a lot of pathetic repulsive things about conservatives, lib scumbags come in all shapes colors and ages.
She still has fans??
And she has a big BUTT too!!!!
Also Newman used to protest Reagan's policies and called for "unilateral disarmament", something people have forgotten.
Some of us are old enough to not have forgotten.
Jennifer "Tacos and Burritos" Lopez is so last decade, who cares.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2k64w3354kE
Just the ticket for that unfunny Jorge Lopez show.
"I have two words for those people, the second one is 'you'."
Best quote of the day
Also, if Jennifer Lopez wants to do something to make people like her again, I'm sure a public and formal apology for 'Gigli' would go a long way.
Good there are no conservative has-beens attacking the left & democrats as their last hope for keeping themselves in the public eye!
Sincerely,
Chuck Norris
Hank Williams Jr.
Victoria Jackson
Orson Bean
Ted Nugent
John Voight
What's sad is that Cleese always had the reputation of being the "Tory" among the Pythons. I guess the old dotard has lived in Hollyweird for too long.
I think a lot of it, Ed, was that your generation took over Tinseltown. Old-school libs like Newman and Sinatra and Henry Fonda were displaced by the younger Fondas and Chers and other '68ers, whose idea of political discourse was obscenity-laden shrieking. That tradition has now been passed on, with interest, to a new even fouler generation, the Rosie O'Donnells and Sean Penns.
I'm glad you got over it.
"If you want to look like an old, out of touch hack, start insulting people and show us how much you hate."
If you want to look like a *young*, out of touch hack, start insulting people and show us how much you hate, if you're Meghan Fox.
Can't speak for all those people however most of them are just in disagreement. They don't attack or say things like they should die, or get cancer, or their children should never have been born, etc. Which is a common occurrence on the other side. That's what I was talking about.
J-Ho only wishes she got as much work as that "washed up" Jon Voight. Not to mention Bruce Willis.
Now that was just mean, Bozo… er, Chucko.
Actually they're a hybrid mutation that resulted from the unholy coupling of a lemming and a weasel.
I have some of that software. The one I have (called Melodyne) is pure magic! It does absolute wonders. Not only can you fix off-key notes, but you can actually completely change the melody if you want. And you can also adjust the timing of notes too. A total lifesaver for singers like me!
I'm not sure why, but I always kind of Liked Lopez. I'm not really of the age that I would buy her music so it probably doesn't matter what I think of her. But guess what?? I have an 11 year old who won't get a dime from me if Lopez actually puts out something worth buying. Makes no difference to me.
And have no understanding of the difference between the two.
Us-bad,indians-good!A reverse of 1950's westerns.
J-lo, Bese mi asno, puta
JLo should be spanked and spanked hard. Spanked until those big brown Gluteus maximus muscles are a shimmering hue of deep blue
Agreed. In "the old days" we had actors like Newman, Peck, and Wayne. Each had strong and differing political views, yet all conducted themselves with class and treated opposing viewpoints with respect. Of course not all from those times were respectful, but the trend for the last few decades has been less about decency, respect, and rational debate, and more about hatred, contempt, and demonizing the opposition. This is not a Hollywood trend, it is a cultural trend. Children are raised to be self-centered and crass. They are taught from the day they're born that they're deserving of accolades just for showing up. Hollywood, as an amplification of "the real world" is further down this road, but it seems the rest of our society is catching up.
Well, if South Park is any thing to go by eventually people in every industry stop putting up with her crap and she ends up working in a Taco stand.
Can it shut up obnoxious celebrities past their prime?
Somehow being in a movie makes you more intelligent than everyone else. Boycott the haters.
You just noticed this?
I quit going to movies a long time ago, I only listen to older music and I seldom watch TV.
Everything's all garbage these days.
I have to wonder if some of it isn't a generational thing. Paul Newman was a lefty, but he knew how to conduct himself with class.
These celebs all live above us. Maybe John Cleese should star in a new series, "Ivory Towers". How about "Fawlty Thinking Towers"?
Celebs are just that much better than us. We just need to get used to it.
The Hollywood elitists are nothing more than worthless, self-important, anti-American egotists. They spew their venom to the world while praising themselves and giving each other endless awards so they won't feel guilty for participating in their deviant lifestyles. They preach "tolerance" but they are not satisfied with tolerance, They want full acceptance of their sick lifestyles and mental illnesses. In reality, they act the part of heroes while they surrounding themselves with adoring, weak minded worshipers who will never tell them the truth.

Hollywood's Push to Normalize Sex With Children…

Jlo has been predicting her eventual fate for years as she let so many camera focus on her backside.
Wow JLO, you're brilliant. Every other kool-aid drinking, left leaning celeb has already insulted Sarah Palin but you did it in Spanish….now that's what I call "edgy". JLo, you're an idiot, or should I say "la idiota".
A friend told me that he believes all that "spoiled children" stuff started during the Vietnam War. The kids who were protesting government authority (and all other authority, really) decided that they weren't going to treat their kids like that…which in turn begat the parents-as-buddies attitude, the Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade curve, feelings being more important than right and wrong, and so on.
I think he may be on to something.
Newman was a lib. That makes him wrong. But at least he fit Ronnie's description "not evil, just wrong." Whereas the current crop of poo-flinging howler monkeys really are evil.
P.S. I also have it on good authority that Britney Spears was just as bad.
I remember that Captain America comics after 9-11 tried to see the terrorists point of view or something along those lines. I collect DC comics, and I'm getting to the point of stopping. Things haven't been the same since the various crisis and heroes reborn storylines where they keep redoing the origins of the characters. They even took Bruce Wayne away as Batman and gave him a son he didn't know he had?! Come On!!!!!
All Hollywood types should think before they speak. There are a lot of them out there. The one who disappointed me the most was Chevy Chase. I applaud their right to have their own views but they need to understand they are rich and whatever agend they sign onto may not be the right thing for Americans. They should just keep their mouths shut on the political agenda and let Americans worry about their own lives. Unless they want to donate to save their state sotyaxpayers will never have to they should stay mum.
Think "Dr. Spock". The time frame is the same as what you are saying. He convinced parents that they needed to be friends with their kids instead of being an authority figure. I am seeing a change in that, at least among the people I know. More discipline, less warm-and-fuzzy.
Too late for the current generation in their 20s but perhaps the next will get back to how it should be.
God I sound old!
selling her taco flavored keeeses
This gal’s only claim to fame…a green dress cut down to her navel, running around with P Diddy and thinking she has talent.
Her “acting” efforts have always been un-note worthy. She is someone that has nothing of value to add to anything. She is finally sinking to the level she was always at, the bottom.
I can't speak for other parents, but I've raised my kids to be respectful of others and to do their best. It's hard sometimes because most of their friends have the kind of parents who give them anything they want and praise them for everything. My daughters come home and often don't understand why they have to do chores, earn privileges, and have manners. Unfortunately at home is the only place they experience that. Everywhere else….their friends' houses, on tv, in movies, in music, even at school….EVERYWHERE else they are assaulted with the "you're special and wonderful just for being you!" attitude. My girls ARE special and wonderful to me. But that doesn't mean they get a free ride….the most important thing you can do as a parent is raise a good PERSON. Whenever they complain about all of the rules in our house, I remind them I'm not here to be their friend; I'm here to make them into responsible, self-reliant adults.
The difference is simple: respect. In times gone by it was possible to have differing political opinions and still be civil. What we have now is a no-holds-barred hate war. Anyone who disagrees with you must be stupid, racist, sexist, closed-minded, or evil. In most cases these days it's all of the above. Honest, sincere debate is a thing of the past. The opposition must be demonized, belittled, and mocked. Don't believe me? What a few minutes of Keith Olbermann. The man has ZERO interest in civil debate. Anyone who disagrees with him is the devil and must be exposed as such.
An interesting side note is that people with a liberal bent will read this and immediately make judgments about me because I used KO as an example: "This guy must be a righty nut. He's gotta be some kind of bible-thumping war-monger Republican". I'm not. What I am is a rational adult who can think and see hypocrisy from all sides. I live my life by a set of principles, not a party line.
Sure we can blame them.
These libertine liberals get no credit for running their mouths when they have nothing to lose by doing so–how difficult can verbally attacking someone be when there's absolutely no chance of losing your job over the remark? Few Hollywood conservatives can speak up as boldly–because the likelihood is that they may never work again if they do.
Poor Jen. She can't help it. She was born with a stick up her "nalgas".
And he was so gosh-darned pretty.
Oh, my, gosh! Don't even get me started on that. I have been a public school educator for almost 27 years, and I have never seen a lazier, more self-centered group of children in my life. It seems to be getting worse with each year. We have ruined this generation of kids by indulging them and by not holding them responsible for their actions. I was on a rant about this at lunch just yesterday. Most teachers agree with me, too.
Ms. Lopez, as Mr. Hudnall pointed out, has lost some of her shine and is desperate for attention. How better to get in with the "popular kids" than to follow the party line. Sad…
I'm with you. That's why conservative and nonpartisan news outlets are doing so well. We have nothing else to read or watch! I wouldn't even give my sons money to go see Avatar. I just couldn't bring myself to pay $40 for them to be brainwashed with drivel. I just wish the news that I do watch would stop showing clips of Jon Stewart, the View, Letterman, Oprah and other garbage. This just gives them more power and ratings.
I went back to college recently. I had a few freshman courses to catch up on, so I got to meet and observe a lot of recent high school graduates. They did seem different to me – but maybe it was due to my age rather than their upbringing. Hard to say.
Another one bites the dust. Everyday another celebrity goes down as a liberal hack. Now it's time for conservative celebrities to stand up and reclaim decency in Hollywood. It's a shame that younger possibly conservative celebrities feel apprehension to speak out and stand up for what they believe in.
It's getting tougher and tougher to find current entertainment (musicians, actors, etc.) I can believe in. Thank goodness for independent film and the classics.
I heard John Denver did the same. Look up Denver some time and you'll find out he was way left. Kinda puts a big damper on the great Christmas special – John Denver and the Muppets – A Christmas together.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Denver
J-Lo whom, I've never paid attention to as I always saw her as a no-talent to begin with, still has nothing on the biggest lefthack of all……….Barbara Streisand.
Comics editors and writers at the big two have forgotten what their job is. I don't think some of them even know what they're doing anymore. I do give Marvel credit for having some kind of over all focus but the one sided politics is a sign of a bubble mentality. Marvel used to be a more open place and now it is a very "in group" that works there. Marvel always had an attitude that was full of hubris. I suspect it has only gotten worse. DC lacks a real sense of direction or purpose, but I suspect both companies will be forced to change a lot with the new owner for Marvel and new Management for DC, We'll see if it's for the better or not.
So you come up with a list of a half a dozen conservatives who's only "crime" is… what exactly? That they're conservative?
In your world being a conservative is equally offensive as being a fire breathing, puke inducing liberal who calls those who disagree with them vile names.
Sure, you'll say they go to far, but hey, their hearts are in the right place.
I'm sure you say the same crap about conservative values when your with your "hip" friends.
Its really gonna be fun to watch these blubbering idiots heads explode this November as they once again, threaten to leave the country because we've gone "mad" and elected a bunch of old white rednecks again.
Get the popcorn!
I'm a bit younger than those people, I'm on the very tail end of the boomers. By about a month or so.
They lose their jobs if no consumers pay for their work. They're only know what's going in the world through their leftist college grads PA's.
I remember a shocking thing happened in 1969. I was sitting in my seventh grade class, minding my own business and hoping to maybe learn something (this was in Hawaii, so hope is the right word), when out of the blue the teacher told the class to move to opposite sides of the room based on whether or not we supported the war in Vietnam. We were supposed to then "debate". Now, even as a naive kid I knew that nobody in that class knew enough about the war to have a valid opinion on it, and I began to suspect the teacher didn't either.
So what happened with Teach? Did she mix her meds? It was either that or the schooling industry decided kids needed to be "engaged". The result is a generation of people who think their opinions automatically matter just because they're breathing.
Keep it up, your kids will find that it benefits them in the end. I have raised my boys the same way.
It does not cost anything to be nice, show respect, and something earn will be more valuable to you than something given to you.
My oldest, 16 tomorrow, has just been informed that he is to be trained as a shift leader at his work, this because he shows respect to the customers and supervisors, will step up to do things that need to be done but don't fall into his "job description" with out being asked.
