Protesting Cartoons: A Real Hate Crime
by James HudnallBack in 2005, twelve Danish cartoonists received death threats for their interpretation of the prophet Muhammad from some in the Muslim world. We thought that couldn’t happen here. America is more tolerant. But in America we don’t threaten people with death so much as we try to kill their reputation.
Especially our home-grown fanatics on the left who view conservatives the same way Muslim extremists view Jews. Witness the silly brouhaha in the Daily News recently. Mallard Filmore, a mildly conservative strip did this cartoon to howls of indignation and rage from our very own fascists, those humorless drones known as left-wing activists.
The cartoon had the temerity to mock hate crimes by in turn mocking liberals’ laughable rationalizations for their own hypocrisy and bigotry. Yes, children, lefties are hypocrites too. But do not dare call them out on it or you will get 20 or so people with nothing better to do than hold signs in front of your place of business like these dopes.
Notice the signs are all nicely printed, even the ones they’re holding upside down. Shades of ACORN or SEIU! Or maybe it was the MoveOn or Code Pink crowd. The fact is, what they are really protesting is free speech. And the fact that they are basically trying to paint the cartoonist and the paper that runs him as some kind of racist hate mongers shows how little regard they have for both reality and the First Amendment.
Oh, sure…these aren’t congress-people trying to abridge the Daily News’ free speech. This is a bunch of bogus protesters sent by some pressure group to try to intimidate a paper into not veering from the approved script. Which is why we should show these people the scorn and derision they so deserve — and the horse they rode in on — being whichever hack group funded their per diems.
They’re all hot and bothered that the strip mentions hate crimes. Their argument is no one is allowed to make fun of the term. Well, let me be one to do it, as I love barbecuing sacred cows. “Hate crimes” is a bogus term. The very idea that some murder and assault is worse than other kinds is in itself an absurdity and a racist, sexist argument. To say that one group or another is more sanctified than another is bigoted. It’s saying it’s not as bad to kill one group (white males) but if you kill that group (fill in the blank) it’s extra-extra bad and should really, really get super-extreme-punishment with extra-pain nuggets on top.
Does it really matter why someone would want to kill you? I mean, seriously, if someone wants to kill you because of your race, are you going to feel worse when you die, than if they wanted to kill you because of your tastes in movies or music or your hairstyle?
Does it really feel worse getting beat up by someone who thinks you’re lame for going to see Twilight 90 times instead of because you’re a Buddhist?
This is the rationale of lefties who think Hitler is worse than Stalin because he killed people for their religion when Stalin killed 10 times more people than Hitler. Yet Stalin gets a pass because they approve of his politics, even though Hitler was also a socialist. These same people who think Hitler was more evil also hate Jews for killing Palestinian terrorists even though they’re doing it to defend themselves. The Palestinians who kill Jews get a pass because, well, they’re killing Jews. The logic is as insane as it gets, but that’s leftism for you. Sanity isn’t its strong suit.
The cartoon protesters are a fraud. America’s political debate has become a cartoon of its own. And it’s not very funny.

There is still free open speech in America, as long as it goes along with the current ideology. Throughout modern history, Editorial cartoons & cartoon strips have been giving us some of the greatest political satire. From Honest Ade to Opus & Far Side. I'm conservative but I have a sense of humor, all be it off, but I still find humor in mocking me. If you cannot laugh at yourself & take some criticism, stay out of public life.
The protesters were upset that the comic published one week after the one year anniversary of someone's death, which I'm guessing the cartoonist(!) had no knowledge of.
It take a lot of effort to manufacture outrage these days. Pray for the days of full employment so these twits might have something productive to do with their time.

hate crimes that are more horrible than the same crime against select groups not protected by hate crime statute > Political Correctness that requires that no one should be offended by anything except those very same select groups not protected by Political Correctness.

Is it a hate crime to hate the lable hate crime? A crime is a crime. Was it a hate crime that 4 white police officers were gunned down by a black man? Or a horriable crime leaving 9 children without a parent? I believe it was a hate crime towards police who happened to be white.

But that's part of the point here, and another pillar of my conservative viewpoint — Liberals = take themselves seriously, always. I think they feel it allows them to take the social/moral high ground.
Conservatives = tend to be more self-deprecating and better at being mocked. I think this stems from decades of Conservatives being mocked in the media and on campus – eventually, we learned to deal with it, and now it is much more likely that "edgy" humor will come from the right. SEE: the South Park creators, Red Eye, little Stevie Crowder, Dennis Miller, etc.

Not to get all playground here, but I think you were asked first. Show us your examples and then we'll have a reason to show you ours.
1) if you want to see bigoted portrayals of Jews in Western media, take a look at the editorial pages of European newspapers – especially in Italy and France.
2) In America, we don't see the Israelis in a negative light like we do the Muslims because the Israelis have never made a violent attack on our soil. Muslims, on the other hand, are pretty active in that area. Other than Bill Goldberg, I can't come up with a Jew who committed wanton violence on American soil in my lifetime. And, it's hard to hate on Goldberg when we devoured mediocrity and shat out excellence.

When someone makes an assertion during a debate of something that doesn't exist(in this case cartoons mocking Israel),the doubting party must show an example of that which is claimed not to exist in order to refute it,you clearly cannot.

I did a google search for Anti-Semitism in American Comics. First hit was a book on Amazon about the Jews in the comic industry. Apparently, God's Chosen have been very active in that field.
I didn't find anything about a scandal surrounding the refusal of a paper to publish an anti-semitic comic. It's more like no one wants to write anti-Jew comics–and that doesn't prove your point any more than it proves everyone else's. All it says is that Jew haters find other outlets for their bilious ravings than the funny pages.

The media does a fine job of it by themselves. Remember the Israel/Hamas conflict a while back? Remember the skewed, one-sided TV spots and articles calling for Israel to show restraint and how all of these innocent people were getting killed? Do you know why all of those inncoent people were killed? Because Hamas militants were using people as human shields to protect their rocket emplacements. That is the mentality of some of those folks, so why should they be treated with kid gloves?

I was in Munich (admittedly not America) when all that went down, and got to see a huge protest through the center of town screeching anti-Israeli slogans, waving Palestinian flags, and passing out literature condemning Israel's oppression of the "free, democratic government" that is Hamas. Bush as governor was criticized for not supporting hate crimes legislation after that poor man was dragged to death in Jasper, TX. The legislation was to add to any penalty meted to anyone convicted of a hate crime. The fact that the culprits got the death penalty is not enough. I am still trying to figure out how the hate crime law would have increased the penalty they got. RIP Mr Byrd.
