NBC’s ObamaVision: Changing the Channel
by James Hudnall“If people think nature is their friend, then they sure don’t need an enemy.”
–Kurt Vonnegut
NBC, which is last place in network ratings, has decided to double down on their green propaganda push this week by putting environmentalist messages in five of its shows: 30 Rock, Heroes, Community, The Office and The Biggest Loser. NBC is owned by GE. GE has positioned itself to make loads of money if “green technology” becomes dominant, so they’ve not only invested a lot of capital in the Obama administration, they’re trying to get everyone on their bandwagon.

It seems none of them remember junior high and the way students reacted to all those anti-drug scare films because that sure worked out well. The people who didn’t approve of drugs weren’t going to do them anyway and the rest laughed at the videos they were shown. People in general don’t like scolds. They don’t like being preached to unless they asked for it. And certainly, when people tune in for entertainment, they do not want a lecture.
They have seen advertising in all its forms and certainly propaganda. They either agree with it or they don’t.
It’s bad enough we get a sermon from many shows already, or that we’re lectured everywhere we turn. But the fact is, most of what they’re trying to say is inaccurate or just plan wrong in many cases. There is no solid evidence that human beings are causing global warming. More and more scientists are speaking out against that theory all the time. More people are feeling that the whole thing has been exaggerated.
But of course, that’s not stopping NBC from lecturing us. I guess ratings aren’t an issue over there.
There was a time when Hollywood used to fill TV shows with propaganda from their sponsors. Now the spam comes from the Obama administration and their buddies at GE who want expensive windmills and solar cells to replace cheaper energy sources we already use. And to do that they want to pound on our heads until we scream uncle.
A better idea is to change the channel.
As for that Kurt Vonnegut quote above, it should be stated over and over again that the reason we have technology is to protect us from the environment, not to destroy it. All those green scolds should give back their inoculations, dental work and factory-made clothes and go live in some country like the Congo with no electricity and/or indoor plumbing. After they’ve really “gone green” for awhile they can talk about it. But never try to force it on the rest of us. We’re not interested.
Climate change is a part of nature, and it’s a good thing we have the means to survive it when it comes. What they want is for us to disarm ourselves.
No thanks.

Only common sensical people think like that.
What amazes me about the whole "green" movement is how these johnny-come-latelies are preaching to conservatives about conservation. How hard is it to notice the common root in the word?
I was recycling cans and cardboard long before there was a moral imperative to do so. I consolidated my errands or other auto sojourns to use as little gas as possible without liberals lecturing me about it, all the while watching my liberal, save-the-earth sister-in-law run back to the store (3-4 miles away) to get something she forgot.
Reusing, recycling…it's all common sense. It's about being a good steward of the earth and what you've been given. But I don't need 30 Rock or The Biggest Loser to preach to me. Hmmm, The Biggest Loser…is there a bit of irony there?
My TV remote doesn't accept NBC or CNBC. And still, no one can tell us what is wrong with Carbon… I love the stuff. It made me what I am…..
Eh. I couldn't care less about being a "good steward of the Erf" but I do the consolidated errands/shop off lists once a month thing because I hate wasting my time sitting in traffic just to fetch a tube of toothpaste. I take my cans back to the store because I want my deposit back. I don't recycle plastic food containers because I refuse to waste my time (and precious Great Lakes water) washing garbage, but I often reuse them for storage around my home because they're free.
It's an issue of freedom. We should both be free to spend our time and money how we feel is best, not shackled by pointless rituals instigated at the behest of the "green" religion.
Recycling and concervation are good, just as not polluting the body with excess, but as pointed out the "just say no" was bolstered by how pot would make crackheads and deformed depraved lunitics. As with most people when a lie is mixed with a truth has it all thought of as bullsh*t. TV has been preaching green since Another World when John Black had his memory sort of, nothing is new, "Simpson's did it".
if the greenies would approach it from a green as in money in my pockek approach they would probably have more converts. Problem is they approach it from a nature worship point of view.
I've recycled for years because doing so DOES help save on resources but I'll be damned if I'm going to EVER buy into the global warming crap.

Love that quote. I think that a lot of people forget that nature is set to kill us from the time we are born, well actually before we are born. The fact that we live longer, healthier lives today is because we have triumphed over things in nature that would kill us.
Don't forget MSNBC…
and Universal HD too.
years ago the Republican party started something called the 'Wise use movement'…
Of which we are charter members of. Basically, use your available resources, create sustainable wealth, and steward the land properly. If you cut or trim, then plant. Think about what it is you are trying to do and make it more efficient, and friendly.
Nothing radical here; nor political. But since it isn't about redistributive wealth it's ignored.
So what is the argument REALLY about, then?
NBC is only hastening thier demise. I hope that GE finally unloads themselves of NBC but that is only a rumor now and they still use NBC as thier own get out the message network. I do not watch anything on NBC now. I am waiting for "Chuck" to come back and that will make the ONLY show on NBC that I do watch. Go on NBC keep doing the same thing and your Network will slide further into obscurity.
I watch the football, sometimes. If the game is not going to be a great one, though, I stay away, because of my massive dislike for Oberman(?). Not politically bassed, I thought he was an a$$ when he was at ESPN.

Resurrect Joe McCarthy now for God's sake before it's too late.
I live in ecolibville. The strange thing is that they are often the worst enviro polluters. They seem to think that the mere belief in global warming makes them environmentalists. Never mind that they plow thru several cords of wood to heat their house in the Winter (because they tore out their oil furnace because they hate big oil and Bush). Never mind that although they recycle, they never separate or wash so they end up contaminating, not contributing. Never mind that they cannot bother to properly compost. They buy composters and put dairy, avocado pits and strange artificial activators in it and then never turn it.
THEN they turn to us (the natural composters, clean recyclers and electric users (hydroelectric BTW) and claim that because we vote Republican and drive an SUV (one car, not two), we are antienvirodevils.
Generally, I see them wanting to do right, but never having the will. Proposing grand ideas, but never thinking them out to conclusion or considering unintended consequence.
You mean liberals can't control the weather?
Everytime I go out my front door and look at the tree tops, I think to myself, "There used to be 70 foot tall Glaciers here, until we entered the current inter-glacial period…so I guess in that sense, there has been global warming, obviously."
People in general don’t like scolds. They don’t like being preached to unless they asked for it. And certainly, when people tune in for entertainment, they do not want a lecture.
If they gave a crap about what people liked, there would be a TV show where The Rock kicked George Clooney in the balls for a half-hour every night.
I remember taking the drug awareness class in 4th grade. Every one looked forward to it so we could learn what all the older teenagers were talking about.
Yes, man caused global warming is a hoax. This particular part of it is solely to enrich GE, via these new compact light bulbs. But its not just GE that's gaming it, every one on the left is gaming it. What ever their cause, if they want something new, its necessary because of global warming, if they want something stopped, its causing global warming. It's one single huge big top for every circus act on the left.
I'm an engineer by training, so I know a little something about science. And all the proof you need to know this is a hoax comes right from the horse's ass himself Al Gore.
No one who's even remotely familiar with science never, ever says "the science is settled."
Science is never settled. Real scientists speak more like "To the best of our knowledge at this point in time."
The "Heroes" green moment was actually kind of subversive. It was awkwardly written, so it stuck out like the propaganda it was. And it was delivered by this season's baddie, a smarmy murderer. He said something about how good it is to recycle, to which the hero replied, if you want to do good things, how about stop kidnapping people? All in all, it made the network's green agenda look foolish.
only man could be so arrogant (and dumb) to think he can control mother nature.
The 80's "say no to drugs." I remember wearing those buttons while I was taking speed and smoking in the school bathroom. Yeah, that was a winner of an idea. This is even stupider. Do people really even watch NBC? I have no clue how to even find that on the cable dial.
That sounds like the best show ever created….

I love this message. I saw the Green week a couple years ago with 30 Rock, where Jason Schwemmer was Enviroman. Basically he was a corporate environmental mascot who went power mad and tried to take over the office. Last night on Heroes, the green message was delivered by Samuel – the shows murdering villain. Very positive branding for the environment.
Just Al Gore, none of the others. He invented the internet you know….
Can I get up off my knees now?
Exactly!
This is not about conserving, or slowing global climate change.
Same with healthcare not being about care, or health.
NOTHING
BUT
CRAP

The Anti Liberal Zone
Now that the NFL is back on NFL Network and off NBC on Sunday I can stop the incessant amount of showers. Again. I can claim I'm 100% Peacock-free.
"NBC, which is last place in network ratings, has decided to double down on their green propaganda push this week"
DOH! Nothing like getting a face card holding 16.
Hey, a new drinking game!
Every green message you hear on NBC (including commercials and PSAs), take a swig. Being drunk is probably the only way their programming can be watchable.
it's all about spreading the wealth, pal- namely ours and yours…
One more reason why I don't want NBC, ABC, CBS
One more reason why I don't want NBC, ABC, CBS
if some one wants to worship a tree, a pyramid or a bowl of noodles, I don't care. But just be upfront about it. The greenies don't seem to realize how much the movement looks like a religion.
"… The Rock kicked George Clooney in the balls for a half-hour every night."
Excellent imagery… I'd pay-per-view that.
Thx for the chuckle.
the thing is this isn't about money, they could care less about that or nature worship. what the powers that be want is the power that comes with controlling the money. think about it. if they get to decide how many "carbon units" you get and can charge you for more or supervise the trading or selling of those units, they control where you live, how you live what pets you can or can't have, what you eat, what you drive, where you go, how many kids you have – everything would be tied up to carbon units. you could get exemptions I'm sure if politically connected, but not the common man
[...] NBC’s ObamaVision: Changing the Channel [...]
of course. but with a different approach they could convince even more people
appearance over substance
i get so sick of it
They want all of us to watch these shows for their environmental messages, but that would create an even bigger carbon footprint than just turning off the tv. Typical hypocrites.
I just find it hilarious that an appearance by Al Gore on a tv show is somehow a ratings draw.
Yes, and another clue is that most of his arguments are based on logical fallacies like: All real scientists believe in global warming. It doesn't matter if that were true or not (it isn't). Belief and fact are two separate things,.
Another clue: They are saying carbon is a "dangerous pollutant". Uh, we're carbon based lifeforms. It's the most common atom in the universe. All life on earth breathes out carbon dioxide. It's part of the life cycle of plants.
another wave of liberal nonsense from nbc
who would have thunk it
kinda like obozo wanting another tax cheat to help him screw America
to bad we can heap a little of the wild of nature on the liberals
but, then it would be mans fault – cuz we dared to be here to be in the way of the wild
so nbc doesnt want Real Americans to watch?
is nbc whining to obozo to bailout money, cuz Americans wont buy the greenie crap of obozo
so nbc need the pbs treatment
Living here has challenged my good manners.

I took a philosophy class in college – logic – when I was working toward a comp sci degree. Very eye opening. That class is probably why I'm typing at BH today.
I took great joy in demolishing my fellow liberal's arguments with them. I'd slaughter them left and right. Take them out like a weed whacker.
Then I started doing that with my own beliefs. They didn't hold up much better. So I had to come up with new beliefs and positions, and that did not sit well with my liberal comrades. That's when I realized every one on the left was subconsciously trained not to ask questions, not to have differing opinions, just keep repeating the talking points.
Well, I don't take orders well, so here I am.
Thanks for the heads up on NBC propaganda TV.
Not that I would be watching anyway!
Thank god that History channel has WW2 in HD this week. I somehow feel that I am a bit more moved by seeing what those men had to endure, than GE telling us about their lightbulbs and wind turbines.
It's WAY past time to SEPARATE what is good for the enviroment FROM what's good for LIBERAL POLITICIANS.
These pigs have slithered into a position where opposing them means your a "big business – suitwearing jerk" and liberal DemocratSS can "save us".
Bullsheet, the DemocratSS and the corporations ARE ONE IN THE SAME!
We must cull the bad actors like G.E and defeat the bad politicians, those feeding off enviro-scare. NOW!
Environmentalism has become a form of religion fostering a sense of moral and intellectual superiority in the believer but with little or no importance placed on telling the truth. Environmentalism has largely replaced Christianity as the preferred religion of the upper classes in Europe and, to a lesser degree, the United States.
Compare what religion teaches and warns us about; listen to the enlightened preachers for they know what is best for us; make sacrifices for the common good and if not one will be dammed to hell.
Global warming is the new message. It offers these fools a creed, a dogmatic doctrine to follow; it offers them the need to sacrifice; it holds over them an impending doom for not following the dogma, the end of the planet, an Armageddon end to the world.
but if I give up NBC where can I watch Faith Hill in thigh high leather boots?
Enviromentalism has replaced Druidism (reformed).
The Obama-Soros Complex is washing brains daily. Television was a promising technology, it could have been great. Wait, it was.Now it is in decline.
Look to Canada where the networks are again asking the government for more cash. Even CBC which is a state funded broadcaster competing with subsidized private companies (CTV & Global) is at the well again.

This may be the one point of consistency across the board of American leftist politics….
That's why my politics are where they are. I really hate being told what to think and that is what the left does. It makes people unthinking drones. They believe they think for themselves, but 9 times out of ten they can't defend their positions without resorting to ad hominem fallacy.
This propaganda campaign is one of several (socialized medicine is another) which GE agreed to in its rent-seeking deal with the White House- after all GE is heavily, heavily invested not just in little light bulbs, but great big wind turbines, solar cells, batteries for electric cars, 'hybrid' locomotives etc. Jeff Immelt announced it, almost gloatingly, at the board meeting last spring, when he declared that in the Nerw America, only those businesses would prosper which got in bed with the Government.
Like Krupp, Siemens and Daimler-Benz…….
