NBC’s ObamaVision: Viewers Are the ‘The Biggest Loser’
by John P. HanlonThe NBC reality program “The Biggest Loser” has the potential to create a lot of winners. Aside from the obvious winners of the weight-loss competition, there are other opportunities for people to “win.” For instance, all of the contestants have a chance to leave the show as victors if they use the opportunity provided to lose weight and become healthier. Viewers have the same opportunity to win if they decide to change their lives because of the show. Without being overt, the show has a strong underlying message about weight loss and self-worth, but in a recent episode the underlying message about weight loss was overshadowed by a preachy and overbearing “green” campaign by NBC.

“The Biggest Loser” has a typical reality show premise. A large group of contestants starts out at the beginning and as the weeks go by contestants are eliminated until the end of the season. Unlike other reality shows, though, this show has an important message to send out to viewers about living healthy, taking care of your body and maintaining your self-esteem.
On last week’s episode though, the show’s message was overwhelmed by a push from the NBC network about staying green. During the ninety-minute episode that aired last Tuesday, there were numerous public service announcements about taking care of the environment. Those announcements tackled such issues as fixing leaky faucets, using less plastic and buying local produce.
Additionally, there was nod to the green movement during the episode itself. The Entertainment Weekly recap of the episode noted the following about an exchange between Bob, one of the trainers on the show, and one of the contestants:
Bob blessed Allen with some product placement: a stupid Ziploc bag that’s “made from 50 percent wind power.” Allen: “That’s good for the environment!”
Allen’s statement may be true and working to preserve the environment is a worthy cause. However, numerous public service announcements about NBC going green and a mention of a environmentally-friendly product so blatantly in one episode is a bit much.
“The Biggest Loser” may have a lot of great qualities and it may inspire a lot of people to lose weight and change their lives. That is a solid message for a program to be promoting. However, the excessive marketing for a green campaign during the episode overshadowed the episode itself.
NBC may want to heavily promote going green but an overzealous bid to promote a green lifestyle could turn viewers off quickly and make NBC prime-time the biggest loser after all.

The blatant green messages and the Ziploc bag incident was an eye-roller to be sure. I'm all for a clean environment, but I will not be preached to by a company that is kowing to the government because it thinks it will see a huge payday.
oddly enough th eonly people watching this stuff probably doesn't vote- much…
or if they do it ain't for the east coast establishment, that's for sure. One would think NBC/GE/Obama vision would be a clone of Algore's network
Oh? That's a bad business model and laying people off?
Sorry…
wind may produce the bag, but the raw material for the plastic is oil, so a windmill can make plastic into a bag, but it can't make the bag. unless the windmill used its electricity to power a oil rig to get the oil out from the ground.

Maybe they can introduce a vehicle powered by the blood of television executives or hippies?
I guess I don't get the statement they made in the first place. What the heck are they talking about? Is the "stupid" Ziplock bag good, evil, or otherwise? Huh? Just not getting the message.
Which is just one more reason I watch little network TV when we do watch.
its bad, evil oil was used to make it, on the other hand we used renewable energy to produce it. so like most things done by environitwits, nothing they do make sense. they want to be rewarded for the effort to use wind energy, even if it produces a evil plastic bag. even if the evil plastic bag might keep foor from spoiling a meal to starving bag lady. just a waste of time, and your money. they most likely got a huge tax break for installing the windmill.
Who would of thought…a show where you can sit on the couch, eat potato chips, drink beer, and watch people lose weight.
What riveting entertainment could the networks be planning next…watching Tweets on your 60" plasma screen?
National Barak Channel
With all the crap shows nowadays, Its no wonder I dont own a tv.
This just proves leftists care less about people than they let on.
If you watch these shows and are fed up with these types of "in your face, Obama agenda crap" , then just don't buy the sponsors product. It's funny how fast a little consumer rebellion can change a company's mind about helping Obama.
I notice product placement appearing in nearly every show I watch now. I hate that. I don't mind seeing a product name if it is part of the normal way of things but to be so obvious with it, just makes me cringe. The do it in movies too.
"This just proves leftists care less about people than they let on."
Actually they don't care about the well being of people at all, go drive in an ultra blue area and witness the truth.
Oh, and to see people who are full of compassion, decency, and kindness, go drive and walk around in an ultra red area. In blue people give you dirty looks and try to run you off the road, red they smile, wave, and are very friendly.
This show is notorious for awkward product placements. I've only seen a few episodes, but they've all had plugs for Subway, Extra gum, and Ziploc; just to name a few.
I though there were already enough reasons not to watch this disgusting program.
My wife is now at the point that any company that pitches it's products as "green" immediately loses her business. Of course she's always been the type that can't stands people telling her she has to do something, especially for political reasons, but she's got a point. I'm not saying that I stop buying things marked green, but its definitely not a reason for me to purchase anything.
We know the wind power wasn't generated on The Kennedy's place- windmills ruin their views!
I wonder how much more power could've been generated by the windmills if the turbines hadn't imparted a bit of their energy into birds?
Hmmm…I see. Thanks, peteee.
isn't Ziplock a registered brand name? Won't that hurt the company or is that the intent?
It reminds me of the scene in Waynes World (the movie) about that vvery topic of not-so-random product placement. Good stuff.
Wind power? Doesn't GE manufacture wind turbines? Doesn't GE own NBC?
Gee….
Small disposable plastic bags = good for the environment. Now I've heard everything.
seriously, if that channel is developed i'm going to find you and make you pay for suggesting it.
I agree. Liberals only like to talk about doing good deeds, while conservatives actually do them. Liberals are also very generous, but with other people's money. And that's why the poor (who overwhelmingly support the democrats) will remain poor forever.
or both!
and the DemocratSS want the *poor* to remain *poor* so they perpetuate a part of the ~tapestry~ of suckers that vote for Dems…
empower them to pull themselves up to a taxPAYER status and they will WISE UP and switch parties!
No tweets yet, but if you ever travel to Finland, and, due to jet lag, wake up at 3:00am, go ahead and flip on the TV. Nothing like watching a Santa Clause figure read SMS messages, or bikini-clad hostesses playing tennis with you using SMS messages, or quiz shows on TV run via SMS….
The Finns are years ahead of the US in what they can do with their cell phones (many years ago they already had the ability to make purchases in stores and from vending machines using their cell phones).
How many years ahead? http://www.savonlinnafestivals.com/en_index.htm&g...

Damn well said. Liberals are so FOS when it comes to being philanthropic. They're really just a bunch of self-absorbed, self-loathing pricks who just want vengeance on those who have want they want. Hope Obama runs 'em all off a cliff along when he dives so they can all make a nice filthy crater.
In last night's episode of "CSI:Miami", the PC mire got even deeper: the villains were corporate fatcats who were killing insured employees to recoup expenses for rising employee health insurance costs.
Emily Procter or no, think I've watched my last episode.
Not to mention they new smart grid O envisions for America, guess who is getting the contract? If you guessed GE, you would be correct… have a cookie. (NOM NOM)
I love this show and was very glad that it was DVR'd so I could fast forward through all the Bob and others fawning over Obama and the fake garden. Honestly, produce does not grow that fast and that big, it was obviously a prop. Worst segiment ever on this show.
Uh, I read they are making a movie about Twitter. Seriously. I am scared. We have reached the abyss.
It surprises me that some people who post here seem to believe that one's political persuasion determines if they are nice people or not. It is just as stupid to say that Republicans are generous and Demos are mean as to say the opposite. It has certainly been my life's experience (50+years) that nice people and "ahats" can be of any political persuasion. Just like politicians with sleezy sex lives have come from ALL sides of the political spectrum.
I love this show because it shows how people can change what I think is the biggest threat to the future of the American people which is obesity. The health consequences, loss of productivity, costs of related medical care are staggering AND WE ARE DOING THIS TO OURSELVES PEOPLE, NOT BY TERRORISTS OR LIBERALS OR THE CHINESE.
Right! They used to kill marine life didn't they?
And its because we have food that is cheap and more than enough to go around, escpecially considering the size of portions at restuarants.
I was a skeptic about the green movement, but after watching this presentation, I am a new convert and to truly believe in my new green religion, mankind must be annihilated!!!! I've thought it through, there is no other answer, humans are bad for earth!!!!! Do the right thing for "Mother nature", commit suicide, if you are a true believer, get out of natures way!!!!!!!!!!!!
