Obama Apologizes to the Right People
by Julia GorinFrom Politico.com:
After comparing his bowling to the Special Olympics on “The Tonight Show” Thursday, President Obama called Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver to apologize…[and] White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton told reporters…that “[the remark] was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics.”
Well, Obama damn well SHOULD apologize. Just think of how many retards voted for him.
(The above remark was in no way intended to disparage people who are actually retarded.)
(Especially this guy, who was competent enough to not vote for him.)

Hehe. I think the funniest thing about all of this is that I can promise you just about any member of the Special Olympics could beat him at any given sport they participate in. Those people train incredibly hard and are exceptional athletes. Hey! Why don't we have a bowl-off as part of his apology??
I read someone who is Spec. Olympics bowler (who has like 6 career 300 games) has already challenged the President to a game.
It's a one day story — MSM leads with 'I'm sorry, says prez' and they move on. Imagine if a Repub had said the same thing .. apologies simply wouldn't be enough.
So tell me again, who was the gaff prone president. . . Bush or Obama?
So tell me again, who was the gaff prone president. . . Bush or Obama? Comedians must be having a field day with this guy… oh wait… that's right, he's not funny.
That's a great point. Even if he had apologized as sincerely as humanly possible and promised to take brainwashing…er diversity training, they still would not have considered it enough.
People that are making this into a partisan argument are being ridiculous. As the parent of a disabled son, I'm just flat out offended by his remark. If a person made the comment "my hair was so nappy I looked like a black man" I'm sure people would be offended. Get off the partisan politics, it's like two little kids in the back seat of a car. Realize that currently there is no difference between the two parties. Troops out of Iraq? Yep, and right into Afghanistan. Read people, and more than one news source. People staying ignorant is what the politicians count on. Back to my original thought, this comment was just wrong, I expect more from any sitting president. riponpolitics dot com
Speaking of "nappy" hair, Obama advocated Imas' firing after his controversial remark.
trip… i don't think it was wrong.. in fact, I'll say it's the first "non-P.C." joke that Pres. Obama ever really tried to make.. it just came out flat… but as toto wrote, if Bush (or any Republican/conservative) had said it, you'd be hearing all sorts of outrage… I've seen "bad joke", "stupid joke", but nothing in the outrage column

It wasn't my fault somebody took my teleprompter. Even though I didn't mean it, I inherited it, we have to fix this crisis right now, come talk to me I'm still the one responsible to fix it, blah blah blah! No matter how well you dress it up or present it, if it is diarrhea, it still stinks.
Great reminder!
Makes you yearn for the old days when
Connecticut born and Yale educated alcoholicsplain folk used to joke about WMD's during a war. It's also worthwhile to point out that it's possible to not be insulted by the joke, but be insulted by his freedom to make the joke. I can see why someone would be offended but all jokes offend someone. What gets me is that this jackass is allowed to say offensive things and somehow his approval rating goes UP. I guess it's true, only retards voted for this guy.
As if to prove this story can only get awesomer — SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOWLING CHAMP CHALLENGES OBAMA TO BOWL OFF: http://www.tmz.com/2009/03/20/special-olympics-ch...
What was he thinking?
Another sign of this man's adolescent personality. I think the real Obama comes out when's he's off script and relaxed, and this is the real Obama.
a special olympic bowler has challenged obama! here's the link: http://www.denverpost.com/celebritybuzz/ci_119582...
obama just got p'ownd!
Is Obama the most incompetent president of the 21st Century? Time will tell but between you and me he is a winner as the President Harding of this Century. I think I just insulted the late President Harding.
Good to see the capslock culture warriors yearning for political correctness far beyond what a liberal can even imagine. They just don't call it that. They call it 'morality' or something.
He performed his bowling extravaganza when he was in my town. Guttered every damn one of them. No I think he finally surpassed Grover Cleveland as the yutz of all time – and all within 75 days. A proud moment in spastic history. This… is just a lovely bunch of coconuts
i don't care about the remark. just a trivial mistake.
what interests me is the way it exposes the tools who will rationalize and excuse anything the messiah does. if bush had said the same thing they would be giving birth to ugly shrieking kittens right now.
and apparently all is right with the free world when it's leader has the spare time to practice bowling.
Sure, they could beat him at a sport, but can they repeat the Tenets of Marxism in Arabic?
Who's rationalizing?
Obama Special Olympics:
683 news articles
uh what's your point dingus? look if we are going to throw rocks then very few of us can speak on this topic. however, very few of us are the POTUS. hell, once you assume the office most (all) have enough sense to shut the hell up if they want to make a goofy comment. i just find it funnier than all hell that he appologized to a "Shriver" on this matter. WTF?
Fortunately for pseudo-President Obama he has his very own bowling alley where he temporarily lives so he can practice all he wants in between roadshows. I am sure that if he gives just a modicum of effort Obama can raise his score to a lofty 133. Still not enough to compete but he'll still be special in my book and probably in yours too. In fact, I am willing to sponsor President Obama on his quest for bowling excellence. For every point he scores in his next one hundred games I will give $10 to the tax-sponsored Government Department of his choice.
Right, because bowling is a serious sport -only it comes with hot wings, fries, and lots of beer.
My son's not a bowler, he plays baseball. But even he is smarter and more capable than PBHO. You'd think a guy with his own lanes can toss an eighty or so.
Why does PBHO NEED the teleprompter? Because his jaybird mouth overruns his gnat-sized brain. Don't any of you libs try to push this anencephalitic micropinhead off as a genius again.
I bet the flush toilet in the White House has an instruction card.
This is what happens when he leaves his teleprompter at home. What's really pathetic is how little is actually being made of it, while it takes a trash rag like TMZ to point out that if it had been Bush, he would have been raked over the coals. TMZ is about the only entertainment or news site I've seen actually making fun of Obama lately. Its a weird world.
http://www.tmz.com/2009/03/20/barack-kills-with-s...
Of all the things he should apologize for, this is not even near the top of the list. He made a joke that a lot of people make…big deal. No, Bush wouldn't have made a joke like this, but it just shows you how much more class he had than Hopey. Participants of the Spec Olympics are tough…I think they can handle a little gaffe from Hopey, especially since they couldn't find a way to fit the teleprompter on Leno's desk.
Prejudice is total ignorance of the group you hate and/or make insults to, which is what BHO did and what Imus did, Imus being as prejudiced to jocks as to black women. The left allows actual blatant offenses they condemn and invent for republicans. Ignorant prejudice is not knowing allt special olympics bowlers are actually better than BHO, or "frenchy" Kerry telling Kalifornia students service people are stupid when all current service people exceed the California university standards, while most of his hateful audience does not meet service criteria or CNN's Hughely stating the GOP convention was nazi while he allows a KKK Kleagle (Byrd), Rev Wright and the Nation of Islam to run amock.
This is what you get when you elect someone based on their skin color and not their qualifications. This is affirmative action on the grandest scale and the country will pay for its juvenile decision; elections have consequences.
We put a community organizer, otherwise known as an agitator, into the White House and the rest is to be expected; obama has no idea what he’s doing, the economy is continuing on its downward spiral and this clown is going on late night tv shows and throwing parties at the White House. We’ve elected Marie Antoinette.
Tens of millions of Americans are enraged at the naked fleecing of our tax dollars while we’re losing our jobs and obama’s attitude is “let them eat cake.”
If this were a serious nation the criminals in DC masquerading as politicians would be executed.
First apology : Tim Geither ..
we'll work our way down for the rest of the list eventually.
True, but I intend to hold Obama to the same standard they held Bush to. Every little gaff needs to be pointed out and ridiculed.
He's got a 50/50 chance.
As far as obama's Special Olympics comment it's just more of the same from a classless clown who only got to where he is through white liberals guilt. If obama were white he'd be a laughingstock; what the liberal losers fail to realize is that the rest of the world doesn't view obama like a male Brittany Spears, they see him correctly as a lightweight way in over his head and he is indeed the global laughing stock. Obama tried to reach out to the "moderate" taliban and the taliban told obama to go phuq himself. We have a dangerously naive president but he's a perfect reflection of the vapid dimwits who elected him.
Careful, man. The Midwest Polacks and Bo-Hunks will descend on you with no mercy.
No, we're having fun with a coke snorting, supposedly Hawaiian born, walking gaffe machine.
Instead we get a cocaine using late term abortion supporting agitator who doesn't know shyt. Yeah, I'll take the guy from Harvard/Yale that used to drink and had a better GPA than Kerry or Gore.
The comment itself was tasteless, and not funny, but still rather innocuous — hardly worth a big todo.
That having been said, he obviously believed he crossed a line, or he wouldn't have felt the need to apologize. But since when is it acceptable to make a private apology for a public insult? If he'd made the comment about one individual, then perhaps a private apology would suit — but that's not the case here.
If I'm insulted by someone, I'm certainly not going to feel satisfied that someone else (by boss? my parent?) receives an apology. If you owe ME an apology, the you need to have the courage to deliver it to me, not try to weasel around and deliver it to someone easier to face.
He's walked into windows thinking they were doors, he's bumped his head, he's committed as many gaffes as Bush has and he's only in office less than 90….imagine the rest of the term? I try not to.
No, bowling is a vulgar waste of time for the unwashed. The liberal glitterati look down their noses at such proletariate. They know best, ask them.
I'm with you on that. This piss ant gets all the latitude W. got. None.
I don't think the "Special Olympics" remark is particularly offensive unto itself. At worst it was crass jock humor. Obama was in a give and take, off teleprompter, and tried a metaphor that failed. However, if George W. Bush had EVER said something similar, a media storm of epic proportions would have been launched. The Maureen Dowds and Frank Riches of the world would pen editorials about Bush's utter lack of compassion, attempting to draw a parallel line between "Special Olympics" – "Katrina" – "Iraq." Keith Olbermann would likely have an aneurysm in building up enough self-righteousness for a particularly blistering "Special Comment." The real story here is the media's utter sublimation from Bush hatred to Obama idolatry.
Obama clearly has contempt for the average American, he's never been one. Other than having a muddled, screwed up upbringing (Muslim school in Indonesia? That's the normal American upbringing) being coddled in prep school, college in L.A., New York, and Haaavard, then on to lawyering and community in Chicago. His policies so far are an all out assault on the tax PAYER and middle America, disguised as "help". A case study in being totally out of touch with you and your neighbors. Goebbles would be proud.

it should take about 20 seconds for you to prove me wrong, at least in your individual case.
do not evade or deflect with talk of "caps lock culture warriors". deal directly with the presidents remarks. use the words "obama" and "stupid" in the same sentence.
what exactly am i writing that is getting "moderated" to death?
LOL- brilliant!
P.S. does beheading infidels count as an official sport?
That's just the point. He wasn't.
I hope he apologizes to all developmentally challenged or differently talented ( whatever semantic pretzel we're supposed to twist it into ) for endangering their lives by courting our enemies rather than our friends. Or that he is robbing any future funding and research into their physical infirmities by moving to a universal health care program that will shut down most experimentation. And he can thank them now for taking what money that their parents were planning to use for the care of the ones left behind.
The cover is blown for those Hollywood-types at Lucky Strike, hogging the lanes on the weekend and never realizing they're outing themselves — HA-HA!!!
The Special Obamalympics: where the geniuses run around in random spastic circles, to the cheers of loving retards.
I'm sure if Riyadh ever gets the Summer Games we'll find out.
Although I can already envision the scandals arising from the use of "performance enhancing Suras" and the like.
That was the first thing I thought of too when I first heard of the story.
If a Republican would have said it, there would have been endless stream of righteous indignation, verbal flayings, demands for impeachment and/or a good old fashioned hanging no matter how many sincere apologies were given.
But since it was Obama we're treated to "He apologized, it was just a joke, nothing to see here move (on) along."
As far as the left is concerned not only is he not funny enough to make jokes about, but if you think he could be then you're probably a racist.
Heh. Racism is alive and well.
Obama's slip was definitely a gaffe but at least he doesn't take his bowling as serious as Bush took his pitch at the 2001 World Series:
“I never felt that anxious any other time during my presidency, curiously enough.”
Yep. Curious.
Oh my, such divisiveness! Whatever happened to peace and unity?! No matter what he says, we should never hold Obama's feet to the fire over it.
Because someone will say that was a punishment for slaves and cry racism.
No "probably" about it.
Now thats the way to protect democracy, pour over those Leno transcripts! STICK IT TO THE MAAAAAN!!!
Obama's win was indeed Affirmative Action, we gave the job to the mentally challenged. And he's been doing great work hiring those just like him.
Well the Constitution's been shredded since 1/20/09, Paul_D. Gotsta have some alternate reading materials, right? Bwah-bwah…
Well, as far as not being offensive, would it be offensive to call Obama the "Retard in Chief", since he did compare his bowling to the Special Olympics? Can we point out, without fear of criticism, that Obama was just declaring his solidarity with the tens of millions of "retards" who voted for him?
Because when people joke like that about the Special Olympics, it's pretty much the same thing.
You're 100% right about the double standard, of course.
Remember Sen. George Allen and "macaca" and the way the Washington Post had investigative reporters putting out weeks of frontpage stories so as to end the career of a leading conservative Republican.
"What happened to peace and unity?"? The left killed them. What goes around comes around, hard and fast.
Besides, if they didn't want us to ridicule Obama, they shouldn't have elected someone so ridiculous.
what's racist so far ?
I don't so much mind having a President who performs at sports on the level of a special Olympian. It's his lack of ability to conceive of "A Trillion" as well as one that bothers me.
http://www.AlistZ.net
I remember that.
I also remember failing to find anyone at all, of any race, under the age of Moses that had a clue what the word meant let alone what the kerfuffle was over either.
Really? Could that explain why there were only 103 tea party dead-enders shaking their tiny fists in New York? Did the secret police of Barry Hussein X haul them off to Gitmo? The horror!
The Messiah gets a pass from the media…again…yawn…
And we all thought basketball would become the new "sport" at the White House..lol..Obama will soon have bowling tournaments for every known handicapped or disabled group on the planet. Basketball? It's history. Bowling will undergo a revival with Obama leading it… Tip: Buy bowling stocks. lol
Classic modern lib move — way to change the subject. Cha-cha!
I agree and would like to also add that the President should have realized he crossed the line the minute the comment came out of his mouth. It doesn't take a resonable person to wait for an increase in WH phone calls, or emails or silly Frank Luntz opinion polls to realize how insensitive and unfunny that comment was. If he really felt bad about what he said, he should have apologized immediately.
[...] as the lead story link, with several follow-up links about the issue. Conservative blogs Hot Air, Big Hollywood and Powerline all weigh in with responses ranging from snarky to indignant. These were not the only [...]
Oh, I watched that all the time on Sat. morning cartoons! It was just called LaffOlympics then.
Did he challenge Obama or his teleprompter?
I'm calling shenanigans.
This so called "gaffe" was likely as carefully planned and scripted as the entire rest of Obama's infomercial day in So Cal was yesterday.
The Chairman of the Special Olympics is Tim Shriver, whose mother founded it. He's Maria's brother, Joseph Kennedy's grandson, and a nephew of JFK, RFK, and fat Teddy Kennedy, fer cripes sakes.
Shriver and his org now get a week's free publicity, including buckets of free airtime on shows like Good Morning America to discuss the "gaffe" while showcasing the Special Olympics. Obama gets to look all humble and concerned for handicapped kids.
The Latin for that is "quid pro quo".
This was about as spontaneous as hostage children posing with Saddam in 1990.
I will leave the outrage over "Shecky" Obama's crappy joke to those who were personally offended. I can't manage the outrage over that, when the whole Presidency is a laughingstock. And the media keeps trying to distract us with those farkin' AIG bonuses, instead of focusing on the big picture. Hey, can we please talk about what the Congressional Budget Office reports say, MSM?
Please do not sully the good names of all participants in that Hanna-Barbera masterpiece … even Muttley.
Follow the money.
Who runs the Special Olympics?
Who gets free press for a week because of this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Shriver
My my, such a quick indignant-sounding retort to what was a sarcastic comment. Were you a liberal in a past life? I heard people are reincarnated to make up for past sins.
Thank you for the example, Mr. President (especially on the eve of World Down Syndrome Awareness Day). You've just set back the cause of full acceptance and inclusion for thousands of people like my daugher back by years!
If Bush would have said it it would have been another case of a pot calling a kettle black.
Indignant? Heck no, just ready for action. I got your sarcasm… and your reference…
"Liberal in a past life"? Now that's hitting below the belt. I thought this Board didn't allow such slanders!! I demand satisfaction!!
proving my point for me.
what are the odds john stewart will try to turn this story into a bush joke?
Obama trashes the Special Olympics.. Get Real. You conservatives are obviously so full of venom that you’ve lost credibility with most mainstream Americans. I am not a huge fan of Barack Obama, however his gaffe on Leno show was not an odious attack as your headline suggest. Mr. Obama, clearly made a thoughtless joke, while trying to poke fun at himself and it is apparent that he intended no disrespect. He is after all a human being. As long as conservatives remain so narrow-minded and mean-spirited, they will never attract us mainstream Americans who has progressed into the 21st Century.
Can you honestly dispute that if Bush had said the exact same thing that there wouldn't have been a media tsunami over it that would last for days if not weeks?
Be honest, because we all know that if Bush would have said that very thing as far back as 2002 even, it most likely would still come up once every fortnight or so by some "progressive" talking head.
I demand satisfaction!!
So did Elliot Spitzer.
obama is a small man.
No its still just introductory. Evidently there is an issue whether it is the Shiites or the Sunni's that pick the infidels.

I have no fear they'll work through that one in the traditional way, throwing rocks at the opposing viewpoint's supporters until consensus via lack of consciousness is reached.

This is very annoying to me. Tim Shriver makes Obama seem sincere and moving as he gives him an apology. Shriver and the Special Olympics endorsed Obama and this is how he repays them?….And they don't even care? They are using it as a photo op. I have a disabled child and I am not offended by his comment, I am offended that he feels it's okay to go on a popular TV show to try to be cool and can't even do that!
My 1st comment was lost in moderation, second try…….
====Mr. Obama, clearly made a thoughtless joke, while trying to poke fun at himself and it is apparent that he intended no disrespect.====
The Dimwitted One™ obviously made a thoughtless joke, the problem is so far all of his decisions have been thoughtless. He was basically calling himself a retard, which I agree with, by referring to the Special Olympics and you don’t think it was disrespectful? Why would you, you’re a liberal degenerate.
====As long as conservatives remain so narrow-minded and mean-spirited, they will never attract us mainstream Americans =====
You think mainstream America is a green eunuch? Conservatives are not interested in atracting liberal miscreants, you already have a home called the democrat party. If there was a shred of credibility in the dominant leftwing media/journalism the Dimwitted One™ would have never made it out of the primaries.
===Americans who has progressed into the 21st Century====
Liberal gibberish. What the hell are you talking about? Define this mystical 21st century you liberals are living in. And who are you kidding, liberals have been regressing for decades. Look at what they’ve done with our public schools; they’ve created a generation of semi-literate govt workers.
"Prejudice is total ignorance of the group you hate and/or make insults to,"
I disagree. Prejudice is simply the preconceived notions of a group or members in that group based on a collective common wisdom. Prejudice does not necessarily have to be based wrong information. It could be based on factual and well reasoned arguments. For example some physicist are prejudiced in favor of MOND (Modified Newtonian Dynamics) becasue the feel the VETES vector theory which modifies Einsteins General Theor of Relativity makes predictions on the resulting increased speed of stars on the outer ends of the galaxy that are testable. Dark matter currently makes no testable predictions. This is a prejudice, one rejected by most theoretical physicists who are also prejudiced for Dark Matter. In this case prejudice is actually a good thing so long as it is not absolute because it allows physicists to work through and develop a theory that might actually be testable and confirmed by experimental evidence. (continued)
Now Maria Shriver is using President Obama's gaffe as a teachable moment. "There is still much to do," she says gravely. President Obama is the one who needs the teachable moment, the sensitivity training. Don't project that on everyone else. Most of your average ten-year olds have more sense than this president. I still can't believe that an educated adult, the leader of the free world, goes on national television and says something so stupid. http://the100mostannoyingthings.blogspot.com/
We have to have prejudices because we understand so little of the Universe that we could not survive without pre-judgements. I don't know why cyanide kills me but I am not going to eat a half pound of it to prove I am not being unfair to cyanide. Some prejudices are good and others are bad. Determining which is which is the point.
