Real Time, Real Man: Maher Takes His Shot at Palin

During his opening monologue on ‘Real Time’ Friday night, Bill Maher, couldn’t resist piling on to the David Letterman controversy and the sex jokes made by him earlier in the week regarding Sarah Palin’s daughter.
In defending his friend, Maher thought Republicans had over reacted and this was just a case of ‘fake’ outrage. Much ado about nothing. He then went on talking about how Letterman had invited Sarah Palin and her young daughter, Willow, to appear as guests on his show but the Governor declined because she thought it would be wise to keep her daughter away from him. Said Maher, “…that’s right, he’s 62 years old, he’s gonna fuck her right there on stage…it would be very wise to keep her, very wise, yes. You know, I’d worry a little more about the 18-year old hockey players who knock up your daughters.” To which his audience of trained seals laughed and clapped and had a good old time.
I sat there stunned. Much like his pal Letterman, as far as I was concerned, Maher had crossed the line. Big Time.
What is it with these guys?
For some strange reason, the Palin family continues to be a source of comedic gold despite the fact that Sarah Palin is Governor of Alaska. Can you imagine the side-splitting laughs we would’ve been able to enjoy had she been elected as our first female vice-president? Damn! Maher and Letterman would have ‘killed’ day in, day out. Their adoring audiences would have been carried out of the theatre on stretchers. “Somebody call the comedy ambulance for the love of Mike! Dave did it again!”
According to Bill Maher, these jokes are ‘harmless.’ Women of NOW are you listening?
Remember when Don Imus was canned in 2007 for his comments made in reference to the Rutgers women’s basketball team? The outrage from the usual suspects and others was a bit more ‘real.’ He was called a racist and a sexist. He was forced to apologize for his lame attempt at humor and sent on his merry way by the powers that be.
No such luck with Bill and Dave. Harmless. Yeah, right.
Isn’t it interesting?…depending upon who is telling ‘the joke’ and who is the subject of ‘the joke’ there seems to be an inconsistency of just how ‘real’ or how ‘fake’ the outrage is when dealing with those oh so tolerant souls on the left.
What’s up with that?
We all know the answer. For Bill Maher and David Letterman, no harm, no foul because the Palin family deserves it. They asked for it because Sarah Palin is who she is. An authentic, decent woman who became the governor of a state and last year accepted an invitation from Sen. John McCain to join him as his running mate for vice-president.
The fact that the Palin’s are conservative doesn’t have -a- thing- to- do- with- it. In the upside/down world which we now live, the Palin’s and their kids seem fair game to some on the left. WTF!?
One man’s free speech is another man’s hate speech. One man’s outrage is another man’s ‘fake’ outrage. At least it is if you worship at the altar of Leftism.
As a father and a husband, I can tell you this much, my outrage is friggin’ real. For Todd and Sarah Palin. For their daughters, Bristol and Willow. For their family and those who love them. For my wife. For my daughter. Nothing fake about it at all, Billy boy.
Enough is enough.
Time for action. Saturday, my wife and I canceled our HBO service. A big thank you to Bill Maher. If there are others out there who have had enough of his brand of comedy, I suggest you take some action. Make a phone call to your service provider, let them know how you feel. You need to hit back. Hit ‘em hard where they understand it most, in the wallet. For some odd reason, that seems to get their collective attention. Money. Honey.
In closing, it’s good to see the National Organization for Women and other women’s groups speaking out on the Letterman issue. As I mentioned earlier, hopefully, feminists are watching, listening and take notice of Maher’s Friday night performance and his stab at humor regarding the Palin girls. Harmless? You be the judge.
As for Bill and his friend Dave, if they want to get back to the high road and make amends for the hurt they’ve caused the Palin family, I have a few suggestions:
Apologize. Sincerely apologize. Stop with the jokes concerning the Palin’s daughters. Millions of young women and their families will be watching; listening.
And if by some slim chance our pseudo heroes punk out, I suggest women and the men who love them, petition our state department to send Bill and Dave on an excellent adventure. Swap these two clown kings for American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee currently being held prisoners on some BS charge of illegally entering the armpit which is, North Korea.
That way, everybody wins.

The problem with the Left is that they think everybody is secretly as cynical as they are — when they hear somebody talking about family values or something equally "sappy", they believe him or her to be a hypocrite because no intelligent human being could possibly preach that B.S. and mean it.
Which is why jokers like Dave and Bill can't let go of the Bristol thing — they're eager to paint conservatives as hypocrites who don't follow the rules they set for others. Anything that even resembles hypocrisy is taken as prima facie evidence of it.

Maher's hilarious, and very wise when it comes to religion, and even this very ordeal. Everything he said was true.

It's just one of the many ways that our country and our media are proving their incredible bias. Panetta should be fired for saying that. But he won't, and nobody will think it's a really big deal, just like all the other scandals of this barely-six-month-old administration (political hirings and firings, ditching the Black Panthers case, the UAW kickbacks, ACORN, the tax cheats, the lobbyists, and on and on and on).

I suspect that BM's thought this through and is using a technique of some kind to keep the pressure on conservatives…a variation of "Keep repeating a lie long enough and people will begin to believe it's true". It's a campaign to wear us down, as in "you can't keep this outrage up forever, you conservatives! When it comes to media, we're many and you're few!"
And, of course, with the MSM perpetuating it, I'll bet it'll be successful. Goal, the hear folks say that Sarah Palin and "hard right" conservatives are the nutcases, not "mainstream" comedians.
Am I the only one that saw Sarah Palin's comment about keeping Willow away from Letterman as more of a threat to Letterman?
I assumed that Governor Palin, being a non-victim type gal, is raising her daughter to be a non-victim type gal, and that she was warning Letterman that Willow was pissed and would likely kick his ass.
But then, I'm a non-victim type gal myself and just don't see the world from the "guys are evil pervs and women are potential victims" perspective.
I must have misunderstood, I will pay more heed to my betters in the liberal media establishment.

I cannot stand Maher. It's not because of his politics, but because he is a mean-spirited, petty hack.
As for canceling HBO, I say do it! My wife and I canceled our entire cable service when it dawned on us that there really wasn't much worth watching out there. As a kid who grew up with a TV in every room besides the bathroom, this was no light decision. I thought it would hurt.
But, it didn't. I actually DO STUFF at night now. Weird, huh?
Plus, thanks to Netflix, we watch what WE WANT to watch- proactive TV viewing- we no longer watch what THEY want us to watch- reactive viewing.
Maher, Letterman and all their bitter ilk are just a sign of the times.
It truly makes me sad.

When we as a people accept as comedy the humiliation and degredation of our children then we have lost our civil society and more so, our collective soul. Chaos ensues. The idea of a sexually active 18-year-old is so completely inoffensive that it could go in a Berenstain Bears book. The 18-year-old is who Letterman meant. Palin jumped on the goof and she is manufacturing fake outrage (a) for the publicity and (b) because she is too stupid to discuss any topic of substance and (c) because she doesn't mind humiliating and scaring her 14-year-old for the sake of (a) and (b)–that's all. Palin should resign as a parent.

I think the outrage by the Palin family is genuine, but I think the outrage coming from everyone else is an overreaction. But that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it. What has me entertained is the same thing that is driving conservatives to jump on the Letterman dogpile: Fresh blood. Palin and her family have been targeted with impugnity for so long that it's exciting to see her counterpunches land and put a leftwing comedian on the defensive. Now that she has a big figurehead like Letterman against the ropes, can anyone blame her for not relenting? She has a lot of frustration to vent, and Dave's the whipping boy.
It's also funny to see how some feminists are handling it. Many don't have the solidarity with Democrats that they did before Hillary got pushed out by Obama, so they're flipping out over this. Go to Hillbuzz.org to witness some real outrage. Also note their nickname for Obama: "Dr. Utopia".

Jimmy Arone, the only way to stop this smut called comedy, which really is character degrading, is to discontinue the tv service, as you did, AND stop buying the products they advertise. How about a one week boycott of the two shows. If this were to happen on a large scale the advertising companies would rein in the inappropriate comments like those directed at the Palin family. I do not have the ability to reach a considerable number of people, but you, and others like you with a following do. Please post a list of the advertisers for both programs on this site, and as many others (Fox News and Fox News on air) as you can. It worked in the early years of tv, maybe it could work today.

I think it's a case of enough is enough. Letterman went beyond the normal (sadly) hate filled remarks that liberals have been spewing for 8 years and he got called on it. The remark about keeping Willow away from Letterman was an *empowering* statement about *HER* implying that she's willing and able to retaliate and defend herself. As in… it wouldn't be pretty.
In fact… and I wish someone could do this… some college psych department or smarty-pants like 'Zo or Chowder…
Find out who thought that the statement that Willow should be kept from Letterman was for HIS protection and who thought that (the statement made implied) Willow should be kept from Letterman for HER protection.
And then correlate with political leanings.
Find out, as I fully expect, if Liberals most often assumed that Willow needed protection from Letterman… and Conservatives assumed that Letterman needed protection from Willow.
Oh…. and it IS faux outrage. Only a lamer wastes emotional energy on the negativity of OUTRAGE as if it makes them right, because they're outraged and CARE a lot and stuff. No outrage involved. It's principled concern and the knowledge that if disapproval is not voiced then (certain) people are too stupid to realize that they are being sexist, rude, bastiches.
Good people and Good MEN defend girls against this sort of thing.
