Madonna - love her or hate her. Some think she has no talent, while others have named their daughters after her. Some think her career is pure marketing and her fans believe she’s a real trend setter. There has always been a wide range of opinions about this woman, an...

If you get the chance, read "the Discourses of Epictetus" He was an Aristotelian Philosopher. His works are in the public domain, I have based my entire political philosophy on his works and the works of other Aristotelian Philosopher's.
nsevative it is sacrilege to even attempt to compare a novice like Obama with the great Reagan. It's like comparing a Yugo with a Ferrari.
That's the point
I know and a great one at that……Also kudos for showing O's ears in their true proportion.
Obama is by far the greatest and most dangerous pollutant we face today.
Epictetus is awesome.
Obama obviously wasn't exposed to great men or great leaders during his *education*.
"Marxist/Stalinist Studies" excludes classical though – er, any thought at all.
Obama=Criminal
So since CO2 is a pollutant, shouldn't the EPA ban Os speaches?
Ahhh…..Plato and Aristo, if they were living today I would've totally became their devoted follower/stalker/groupie
Wise men = Sexy
The togas didn't hurt either.
Brilliant.
The American Flag upside down on Obama's lapel, nice touch fellers. Good symbol of Obama's philosophy and where he's taking this country.
I think you're giving Obama's classical education a little too much credit.
I'm sure if you asked him about Plato, he'd tell you it's that colorful modeling clay in a can.
We have to quit complaining and start acting in the spirit of Henry David Thoreau. Yes, I'm talking about civil disobedience.
I'm not even sure that the authors know how very correct they are with this carton: more so on the Plato – Obama association than the Aristotle – Reagan association (which has some flaws, namely religion, which is antithetical to reason).
Obama and his ilk are direct descendants of Plato, intellectually, via Kant — and Plato and Aristotle are directly opposed, as are their intellectual descendants. Aristotle is the father of Reason; Plato of Mysticism. Ayn Rand was a philosophical descendant of Aristotle's; Marx of Plato. Obama and his ilk are clearly descendants of Plato because they believe individual humans are too base and ignorant to rule themselves and therefore need an aristocracy to control us.
Too bad Plato has dominated the philosophical landscape of the World; if we ever want to survive and, far more importantly, thrive, as a species, the first thing we must do is reverse this trend; bury Plato and his descendants once and for all!!!!!
Yep, I knew when I wrote this. I also know Reagan isn't a pure Aristotelian, But he is the best recent example we have, All presents use religion in their arguments, even Obama, though he does it less.
I hope someone asks Obama who his favorite philosopher is. I'd love to hear that answer if someone can sneak it past his "guardians" in the media.
And how can a guy with ears like that not hear the voice of the American people?
*Noted for future reference and homeschooling material.*
"And how can a guy with ears like that not hear the voice of the American people?"
ROFL!!!
@ Esgaroth: It's not the ears that matters… I sure believe he did better than Bush did… He's trying his best and Republicans wouldn't have been able to achieve what he has…
____________

I think his fave is Snoop Doggy Dogg
Republicans wouldn't have wanted to "achieve" what he has. Double digit unemployment, quadruple the deficit, and more spending in his first year in office than every other president in history combined has spent.
One of the great hoaxes of the century is posing Ronald Reagan as a "fiscal conservative." He lowered taxes while borrowing far more money than he trimmed from the budget, leaving the national debt larger than ever. The theory was that lower taxes would have such a powerful stimulating effect on the economy that net government revenue would rise, which turned out to be something of a Laughter Curve. Bill Clinton, whatever his moral proclivities, and Charleton Heston was correct that we wouldn't trust him with our daughters, did at least generate budget surpluses, and begin paying down the national debt. George W. Bush, a pale parody of Reagan, looked at the budget surplus and said "Let's give it back to the people." That would have been a GREAT idea, EXCEPT that "The People" were in hock for $5 trillion dollars of debt, bearing interest, and the main buyer of that debt was the People's Republic of China. Its like saying, let's take out a second mortgage, quit our jobs, and take an around the world cruise. Oh yeah, Cheney said, Reagan said, "deficits don't matter." So Georgie ran our debt UP to $10 trillion, and never blinked an eye. Then, when the economy tanked, since we hadn't been saving in good times for a rainy day, we had to spend on top of record debt. Bush said "We are all Keynesians now" for the simple reason that he was out of any other options. At least Obama has his eye on trying to deal with the deficit next year — Bush went for eight years without even noticing.
"At least Obama has his eye on trying to deal with the deficit next year"
You have a future in comedy,
To blame a couple of men for the trillions in debt is like saying all crime is commited by only a few. People in this country have had their heads so far up their asses for the past forty years that ignorance should be right up there with cancer and heart disease. We have unwittingly and willingly allowed our "public servants"to rob us blind and then vote them back into office, we fools. We cry about debts, deficits and our poor lot in life but are unwillingly(save a few) to give up something to prevent or at least mitigate them. "I want my health care but I don't want to pay for it." is the latest whine, usually by people too stupid to do what's right for themselves. This is the greatest republic ever in recorded history but will be a mere footnote if we succumb to the whine and carp of agents of 'change'. Socialism is nothing but a pretext to communism. Look around the world and see how well that turned out.
Um, I'm thinking Jesse Jackson.
He's certainly mobilized conservatives like no one on the right has done since Reagan.
He has brought the threat into clear focus.
He can join Janine Garbarfsalot in some off-off-Sunset crack joint.
Can't wait for my free Obamacare that's coming down the pike real soon. Gotta find me a doctor who makes house calls to a cardboard box down by the river, because that's where we'll be living once "The One" is done spending all our money.
Either that or he'd think you said Pluto and think you were talking about that little dog in those Walt Disney cartoons.
ARE YOU MAD???
The Congress, although aware of the need to re-build the military, looked at the revenue picture, which was improving every day, and said, "We want some of that cash…"
And they haven't stopped looking at that revenue picture since…
Sounds like a shovel ready project to me!!!!!
This is Truth…
Nothing else need be said further…once Truth is uncovered, there is nothing further to pursue…
George Soros.
my thoughts exactly!
Yep. The fact is Congress controls the allocation of funds, not presidents. And both parties are guilty of these deficits. Dems are the worse, but Republicans are not innocent either.
I am afraid you are very confused my friend. Democrats controlled Congress while he was President.
As too the tax Revenues increasing that is a fact. Revenues did increase in 1982 when the upper marginal rate decreased to 33% but the real kicker was the tax code of 1986. I was a young CPA in south Florida at the and I remember preparing returns for individuals return in 1988 who had a six figure tax liabilities that greatly increased from before their 85-86 returns. Reagan removed 90% of the tax loopholes from the code in that act (including passive losses, the capital gains exclusion, at risk real estate exclusion, etc. This is another factor why tax revenues rose. See the math works like this 28% of everything is more than 70% of nothing. Your comment regarding taxes at the time are greatly misinformed.
Plato's Chosen that is what PC stands for to me.
Obama likes the concept of Plato's Guardians the special educated perfect people that are morally correct and therefore qualified to control everyone esle. Plato stands for censorship especially for propagandizing children to grow up beleiving the right things.
Loved this article!!!!!!
When you put the entire work together does that qualify as an epic discourse?
(sorry)
Himself?
What exactly has he achieved? He has made the USA a laughing stock for the first time in decades, he bullied and bribed his way into a massive fraud of a health care bill…he has kept this country racially divided and is ramming us through to communism….so tell me again of his great achievements???
I see a hate crime charge or two in both of your futures.
Own the charges proudly
We will support you
He quickly learned that mixing the red clay with the white clay made pink and the more red clay you mixed in the pinker it all became.
His favorite philosopher is Mao Tse Tung
so why is BHO & Co. trying so very hard to make their relationship with the American taxpayer more than Platonic?
Thank you for this post James.
Anyone who wants to read Obama's philosophies should read Plato's Republic.
He's no Reagan, he's no Kennedy or Lincoln either, he's not even a president and not because of a lack of certificate either. What he is though is a SHAM.
Um… Clinton's "surplus" was just a bunch of smoke and mirrors.. for one it was a 'projected surplus', two we still had a massive deficit and three the 'surplus' was with moneys taken from medicare and social security.
And Congress is the one that sets the budgets and the President approves…. So it's not ALL Bush's fault…. The only ones exempt from our countries budgetary woes is the Supreme Court….
But it also doesn't help that Obama and his Congress decided it was a "good thing" to raise the debt ceiling and STILL spend over that amount… :-/
Yes! Togas….of course….how could I forget about them?!
See what Toddes said above, and also consider the works of Descartes. One can trace much of Descartes' philosophy to Aristotelian roots (which we've determined here are superior to Platonic schools of thought).
As for your statement that Religion is antithetical to Reason, Descartes reasoned his way into ontological proof that God exists. See Descartes' Fifth Meditation.
It makes my skin crawl to read the names Reagan, Aristotle, and Plato in the same dialog as the name Obama. Though I'm sure in his mind…
Nope, the Supreme Court isn't even really off the hook for this. They caved back in the 1930s to FDR, who is the father of all modern spending in the US. If they hadn't caved much of the Federal spending done since then wouldn't be able to be done.
It is not religion but blind faith that is antithetical to reason including blind faith in reason.
Reason is a tool and the person utilizing that tool should be aware of the limitations and the presence of bias in its use.
Richard M. Weaver, a conservative, seems to take an opposing view of the two philosophers in Ideas Have Consequences. He sees the danger to Western civilization in a life accommodated to this world per Aristotle, rather than dedicated to realization of Plato's transcendentals (objective, absolute, non-relativistic truths and virtues). The accommodation to this world leads to an enervating dependence on comfort and security, which a government like Obama's would be happy to provide in exchange for real liberty with its hardships and risks. (Obama's favorite philosopher, Reinhold Niebuhr, commented positively on Ideas Have Consequences).

Fighting fire with fire.
Why do you liberals speak! Honestly this load of crap about Reagan tax cuts putting us into dbt in nonsense.
Yes Ronald Reagon lowered the tax rates first in 82 to 33% and then in 86 to 28%. However in that time frame he removed 95% of the tax loopholes availalble in the code. Especially the ones that you could take advantage of by buying interests in publicly traded limited partnerships. I KNOW I WAS DOING TAX RETURNS AT THE TIME.
As to your spending nonsense we did not start reducing spending to equal revenues until 1994. We did not start the huge deficits under W until 2006. What was the difference – OH YEAH Dems controlled Congress. Why should that matter because I don't know maybe Congress controls the spending.
This nonsense is tiring but worse than that it quite simply is a LIE. Every time conservatives have tried to reduce subsidies or even cut spending increases you dems have made a bloody public mess of it. MAN UP AND OWN UP to what Your Party has done to this country.
LoL, pretty funny comic. But seriously, who doesn't think Obama is a ton better than George Bush?
