SNL Spoofs Santorum, Mocks His Hands-On Campaign, Stance on Gays

Cast member Andy Samberg, sporting the now-signature Santorum sweater vest, shares how he plans to overtake former Gov. Mitt Romney and win the GOP presidential nomination.

“I’m going to skip the slick TV ads and take my case directly to the people,” Santorum says, promising to visit every county across the nation in the process.
“Some of these counties are quite dangerous … San Francisco County, California is home to literally thousands of angry pillow biters and doughnut lovers … ’nuff said.”
“If the lesbians don’t get me, the Mormon death squads probably will,” he says.
The opening sketch wrapped with the obligatory reference to the former Senator’s “Google problem.”
“So maybe one day long after I’m gone, my grandchildren can look me up on Google and find something, you know, something different than what’s there right now,” he says.

This sketch the same old tired, predictable BS. This is why no one finds you funny anymore, SNL. How about you make fun of Obama for a change, no holds barred? Afraid to be called racist? It has become a night-light for drinkers as they wonder why alcohol has lost it's joy appeal. Those who watch it and find it bearable are just happy mom and dad are letting them stay up late.

I used to watch SNL out of pleasure. Now I watch SNL to see,,,
1. Just how unfunny a show can be and still be on the air.
2. How many Obama blunders can get ignored each week
3. How they handle the target practice on the Republican/conservative targets of the month
I swear that last night's Santorum cold open was one of the most incredibly bad cold opens I have seen on SNL ever. It was a beached whale, the audience couldn't fake anything more than little titters of laughs.
P.S. I edited this because "beached whale" used to be "stillborn" and I just realized that was an unfortunate pun taking Santorum's experiences into consideration.
For such an "irrelevant" tv show the bigs, along with just about every other right wing blog, sure do give it a lot of coverage.
The hidden truth here is that people even liberals find gays funny and ridiculous. The laugh line was "pillow biters" and "donut lovers" and like Robert Smigel's "Gary and Ace, the Ambiguously Gay Duo" … gays get lots of laughs. As in Triumph the Insult Comic Dog at the Tony Awards. With the Gaydar 5000.
As much as it was meant to mock Santorum, most men and a lot of women find gays ridiculous and the object of humor. Even SNL will milk "pillow biters" for a laugh. Oh sure, they'll put the words in Santorum's mouth, but "gay" is the go to humor (like say, Leno's gay intern "Ross").

I find liberal whining about gay rights to be particularly bothersome for one simple fact: their guy is opposed to gay marriage. For some reason, Santorum or anyone else is an intolerant homophobe, but Obama is some kind of champion for gay rights… when he's done nothing for them. Don't Ask, Don't Tell? Please. Repealing it was a pure political stunt. Heck, it was a Democratic Congress and President that created the policy in the first place. Why should anyone with a "D" at the end of their names be patting themselves on the back for repealing it?

You said this website gives SNL a lot of coverage, and I would say this is one post of coverage, which isn't a lot. I was wondering what the other posts were. You are attempting to make the charge that we bring a large amount of attention to a show we deem irrelevant, thus through the action of blogging we are saying they are relevent, but you're basing your premise on articles which may not exist in such quantities to justify the charge you are making.
Maybe its just me, but if I was leveling the charge of hypocrisy toward a group, I would butress my opinion with links to the fact.

I am actually leaning fairly strongly towards supporting Santorum currently. But I thought that skit was pretty funny, and not all that "hard-hitting" on Santorum. SNL really stopped being good or even funny after the Second Generation left. Those first years were a laugh fest. I have not watched SNL since 1986 of so.

I was born in 1984. SNL has loved mocking the president for as long as I can remember. Reagan, Bush 41, even Clinton, thanks to Lewinsky. And we all know how they felt about Bush 43.

I even kind of liked the early 80's version of SNL between the first gen, and the second gen. There is nothing I like about the last few lineups at all. The music sucks, the hosts suck.

The last time SNL went into fair territory they got spanked. They had a skit about the housing crisis telethon which included two real people (actors playing real people) who made a couple of billion dollars selling derivatives, a couple of college guys who just bought a house that they couldn't afford because the lending institution said the government would cover their losses, Barney Frank saying that things were going well and as planned, and George Soros saying that come next month he would devalue the American dollar and make billions of dollars. That skit was cut out from a rebroadcast and embargoed on youtube.com. It was funny, it was accurate, and the only targets were democrats.
I think conservatives were fortunate that Phil Hartman and Dana Carvey did a professional job when they 'mocked' Reagan and Bush 43.

When SNL started it was the first time the Boomers (then in their 20s/early30s) got to bring their own take on sketch comedy. Back then it was new and fresh and cutting edge. That was over 30 years ago and in that time the SNL brand of humor has become the mainstream standard. Couple that with casts who grew up watching SNL and now are doing recycled routines from the past shows and now you have an SNL that has become what it once mocked a mainstream TV show that doesn't want to offend it's scared cows (liberals).
