Video Game Depicts Occupy Wall Street Types as Terrorists
by HollywoodlandNot every Occupy Wall Street type wants to violently stick it to The Man, although an alarming number embrace such a solution.
An upcoming video game takes that branch of the OWS movement to its most radical conclusions.
—–
A snippet of the upcoming game “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: The Patriots,” which won’t hit stores until 2013, was played over the weekend during the Spike TV Video Game Awards. The game casts the players as anti-terrorism agents squaring off against a group which believes the government and corporations are corrupt and must be taken down.
And if that means hurling an evil banker out the window, so be it.
Here’s a quick rundown on the video game’s plot:
Terrorism has evolved and America is under attack. Capitalizing on the sense of frustration in a nation seemingly corrupted by greedy politicians and corporate special interests, a group of US citizens-turned-radicals, the “True Patriots,” will stop at nothing to overthrow the government and financial institutions. As a leader of the elite Rainbow counter-terrorism unit, players will be the last line of defense tasked with saving the nation no matter the cost.

Wonder if they'll ask all the people who wrung their collective hands over the violent media images they claimed contributed to Gabby Giffords' shooting what they think about this piece of video game political commentary…
A month ago, Game Informer predicted that conservative media would portray the game as suggesting that the Tea Party, not Occupy Wall Street, was a bunch of terrorists. This is the first I've heard about it outside of purely video game-related media, so it's heartening that Big Hollywood hasn't fallen into their narrative.
Wow – sounds like my kind of game…
Wow. It's going to be interesting seeing the fallout from this game …
The "True Patriots" thing sounds more like a Tea Party jab, frankly. But let's be generous and say they've chosen to amalgamate TP with some OWS greivances (evil corporations, etc.) to come up with their villains.
I'd pay for a video game where you fire a pie gun at Michael Moore and he keeps eating them until he explodes. Sounds simple but he can keep downing them until level 10.
What kind of computer power would it take to process the number of pixels needed to represent his body? I would guess you would have to wait a few years for the technology to catch up …
Sounds like this game mimics reality since the communist party, certain unions, and some progressive dims do wish to overthrow our republican form of government.
Chances are they'll ending having a plot twist near the end where the terrorists end up being portrayed as the good guys.
I have stated that OWS is a terrorist group countless times on this blog and in other networking sites. Glad that someone finally listened to me.
Huh. I was interested in this game, but figured I was going to have to sit through a crap ton of tea party bashing if I played it. And then I remembered that Rainbow Six has its origins with Tom Clancy, so… Hmm. There may yet be hope.
A big round thing that constantly gobbles up food? They had no problem animating Pac-Man in 1980…
As a gamer nerd I will say most First Person Shooters and many games in general have a more conservative tilt to them (purposeful or not). If you watched the VGAs there was an awesome commercial with Modern Warfare 3 characters doing a support the troops thing! I have never really seen any sucker punches in games (at least the ones I play)….pretty much always a good guys vs bad guys. I think that is why the video game industry keeps growing and growing.
Ah, the kiss of death. Much as the Mason 'Family' and the SLA became villains and the violent murderous hippie became a stock Hollywood villain, it warms my heart to see OWS types become the villains.
Some jackwagon tired to sell a game were the hero was a Delta Force "assassin." Never heard of it? Guess why.
I hope more games do this.
Deep Blue might just have enough processing power to do the job.
I don't see it. No one involved in OWS would have the brain power or 'get up and go' to actually initiate any kind of terrorist plot. They have problems just occupying things, let alone actually implementing a plan that might actually do something.
I think was going to be a Tea Party jab, but when OWS showed up, they realized they could make a more "fair and balanced" bad guy.
That's more of what I thought- Don't get me wrong, I like the series a lot, and still play R6 Vegas II with friends on occasion, but when I saw the interview…

(Forgive me for not shortening the hyperlink, but watch the first video. Not even 30 seconds in, they discuss the "True Patriots", and later speculate on what it would take "those people" to resort to violence against a government that they don't feel represents them.)
It seems a lot more anti-Tea Party than OWS. Very disappointing. Seems like they're going to crap up an otherwise good game by alienating part of the fan base. (Would have alienated some by hitting OWS too, but still…)
Meh, not much into FPS, unless it's the recent Fallout games, but that's due to them being RPGs.
Art imitating reality . . .
I can't fit fat bastard on my monitor.
I'm not buying that trailer. OWS that are both clean and actually would even touch a gun? Picking on helpless civilians I can see, but not while shaved and showered. Bank security can normally detect an OWS type from 100 yards downwind.
Like most creative professionals, it seems, the people who work on these games are largely left-leaning. So I'd take that as their default position unless something else comes to light.
Although these characters don't look like the stinky, dirty OWS we're use to seeing, it would make sense for the story(and in real life) if they changed their tactics and cleaned up their act. So if they needed to take a shower, comb their hair and put on a suit in order to complete their plans, I believe they would. Similar things happened with the skin heads when the shaved heads and jack boots hurt their disgusting cause. I can see this happening with the OWS crowd, especially with the anarchist and communist. This way they can hide in plain sight.
Hope the game is good, I loved tthe Rainbow6 games. Vegas 2 was alot of fun to play.
I'm assuming (maybe wrongly) that Tom Clancy still has some say over the products that carry his name- and Clancy's a rock-ribbed conservative.
Ubisoft is a French company though.
Ah yes, Rainbow Six, welcome back, I am going to have so much more fun. Hopefully I can get in early on this game . God I love working in the video game industry.
I dunno, since some of them seem to resort to violence, likely if their "movement" continues, they'll probably go insane and do stuff like this.
Yeah but idiots come in all shapes and sizes…with the money OWS can pool together they can get the right pyschopaths to do and believe in their cause.
Ah! Yes! What a breath of fresh air! A Tom Clancy game where the villains aren't psychotic, American, hyper-nationalists or stock Private Military Contractor straw men.
and the french don't have socialistic tendencies, eh?
I haven't played a Rainbow Six game in years, but it's never too late to get back into the mix!
And of course, Game Informer is about 10 years removed from being useful.
I have that magazine too…great for reading on the can by the way…I was a proud daddy when I walked in on my eight-year-old sitting on the throne reading it, but I digress….I was pretty upset that they would say that. I am happy to say this game is now on my wish list.
Well in the book the game series is based off, the villains were environmentalists who planed to wipe out the human population (save themselves of course).
My guess from the intro, the plot of the game and my gut is that its going to kinda be more like a Libertarian meets OWS group who are the terrorists. Saw some of the concept art too, it had a "right wing militia" group look. but the final product usually looks different.
Tom Clancy has not really let me down yet (ok Ben affleck as the hero in that last movie was a kick to the nuts but I can blame the director for that), so I will be keeping a eye out for this one next year.
Its a Tom Clancey story line….I wouldnt lump him into Big Hollywood.
That's what I was wondering–even if he wasn't, this doesn't sound like a game anyone would shell out their money for.
A little modding, a little skinning, and a week after this is out I'll have them in Che T-shirts with dreadlocks saying Obama promised to buy them a house if they kill somebody with a job.
Thankfully, those more in tune with the Occupy movement haven't actually started to throw people out of windows or set off bombs.
I just saw the title and thought that I have to preorder this game…
Then i read the synopsis and I KNOW i'm preordering this. I love the Rainbow Six Series! Very cool.
Will you have the stink-lines coming off of them too?
Well what does anyone expect? This is just the latest twist in the left's obsession with pre-adolescent wish fulfillment. It's faux-revolutionary posing at it's worst. (Putting your kid in a Che Guevara onesie still ranks at the top.) This is the only kind of "revolution" the geekoids who make up the core of "OWS" really understand. Put them in a real fire-fight to contol a strategic block during actual urban combat and they would wet themselves to death.
However this does seem to cry out for some enterprising right-wing game designer to come up with "Hippie Huntdown." A game where well-armed insurgents retake a decadent and narcissistic society from it's preening academics, smug media types and complacent government bureaucrats. Imagine the screams of horror if THAT hit the market.
Even better – a foreign country's perception of what an American political movement looks like. That's sure to be about as accurate as your average American's take on Action Francaise.
The occutards are probably masturbating to this right now, wishing they had thought to actually do it.
I'm sure Lefty gamers are having absolute fits in their mothers' basements right about now
. . . yet . . .
I'd buy that game!
You can go to southparkstudioss.com & play "Die, Hippie, Die," & pilot Eric Cartman's hippie drill through a jam-band music fest crowd.
I'd buy it if they WERE tea partiers… if the people getting thrown out of windows were corrupt politicians and government bureaucrats.
Now THAT would be a good game.
Clancy hasn't exactly had a ton to do with the games since Red Storm was bought out by Ubisoft.
I figured that was the case… But occasionally, things remain true to their creator's vision. Occasionally.
Cray Inc. has powerful computers. Very powerful computers.
You guys won't believe how much debating there is going on Kotaku about this. They're trying to spin it still as The Tea Party Movement. It's beyond stupid. And the youtube comment section about this? You might as well remove your brain before reading.
I stopped taking them seriously when they gave Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door a 6 out of 10, with their reasons being something along the lines of, [it's a great game, but since it's comical, you won't like it,] or some rubbish.
It wouldn't be the first time they've espoused liberal talking points. One of the writers once described Anne Coulter as a sex-starved psychopath, or something like that, in the editor's column.
"A Tom Clancy game where the villains aren't psychotic, American, hyper-nationalists"
Actually, that's exactly who the villains are in this new game.
I read an article in a recent issue of "Game Informer" that certainly made it sound as though the makers of this game took inspiration from the Tea Party movement when designing the terrorists. Just as nauseating, they quoted one of the guys as saying how the player would end up being able to understand the feelings and motivations of the terrorists.
Personally, I don't want to understand the terrorists. You can keep that "hearts and minds" bullcrap. I just want to kill them.
It's a proven fact that reading YouTube comments causes cancer.
Yah…but at least they're liberals this time :p.
yes the bad dudes are bad, but the it's about the Rainbow 6 team going after these guys, they are the Patriots. I have played Rainbow 6 games for years – they are awesome games.
Eh, I'd agree with them on that one. As a big fan of Mario RPG: Legend of the 7 Stars, the original Paper Mario made we weep.
Hates the government for bail outs. Blames corporate people for greed and stealing peoples lives. Believes that the only way to get their message across is by ruining/taking the lives of those who are trying to make an honest living (like that secretary and the banker, not to mention that family in the first trailer)
How the HELL is the gamers that plague Kotaku and other video game forums think this is the Tea Party's fault?!? EXPLAIN THAT!
well most of the gaming media is liberal so the kids have been brainwashed for the most part
That remains to be seen.
They're murdering bankers.
Dear God, I hope not. We're in enough of a mess already with Obama and his cronies refusing to stop their B.S.
BTW, love your avatar of AJ there.
It's one thing to give it a low score, but would you agree that the game deserved a low score *because it's funny*? For the record, Thousand Year Door was one of my absolute favorite Gamecube games…it had delightfully clever dialogue, beautiful graphics, and a surprisingly sweet story.
Perhaps, but liberals are masters at projection. I'm sure they'll find a way to make the anti-Wall Street creed compatible with the Tea Party movement.
I can still hope.
Of course, GI had aweird scoring system where anything below an 8 was supposed to be garbage. never played Thousand year Door. But Legend of the 7 Stars was the first RPG I ever bought and introduced to me Squaresoft. And playing the original Paper Mario was a painful reminder of just what Nintendo had lost when they parted ways with Square over formatting (those idiots honestly thought cartidges were still the way to go in 1996). Realy, the only bigger fauxpas by Nintendo I can think of was Rare's losing of the Bond license (and subsequent collapse).
Yea I read that too.
Makes perfect sense that an idiot like Nolte would suspect this has anything to do with OWS. But had he an attention span longer than that of a dung beetle, he would have done research… you know, like someone does to avoid misinforming people (I know, foreign concept for a neo-con bigot). A very brief search brings up a video uploaded to Youtube on Nov. 3rd by MiXR27 which he claims was created "over a year ago to illustrate the vision for the game." OWS began on September 17th of this year. Even a Republican can figure that one out. If it were based on any current "political" groups, my guess would be the Teabaggers. Though I do have to admit chuckling at the video.
Make sure they look Hispanic.. your type eats that stuff up.
I thought you might have your head stuffed somewhere by the erroneous references to OWS, but comparing them to Neo-Nazis sealed it. All Fox, all the time, huh? You should go outside and check out this "reality" thing.
LMAO… terrorists that don't retaliate when beaten on by cops… the world should be scared to death.
so are you advocating they go terrorist? are you on a watch list yet?
I know an Occupier that's clean and owns an M-N91/30. See him every time I walk by something reflective. Come after my family and find out how I feel about the 2nd amendment, junior.
Yeah, I mean, the Teabaggers would NEVER get violent. I mean, sure, they were the ones showing up to protests with guns, but that was all for show!
If you think anyone in the ruling class is just "trying to make an honest living", please don't vote in November.
Terrorists who have shut down numerous businesses and attacked old women.
Two things spring to mind when I read your comment. First how did you read that I am advocating that OWS go terrorist as my post says that they I don't see them going terrorist as they couldn't organise a root at a brothel. Secondly why are you replying to a month old comment?
to your first point, you seem to be advocating it by claiming that it would take "brain power" and "get up and go" and that it would "do something". sounds like something you aspire to. to the second point, I normally don't hang out on forums like this, as I find the ramblings of Republicans hurt my faith in humanity. but someone linked to this ridiculous article and i had to respond to stupidity this blatant in it's misinformation.
wow.. you really have to step away from the Fox for a moment. the only businesses shut down that I've heard of specifically were in Oakland, either by the black bloc anarchists posing as Occupy or in the port shutdown, which was announced ahead of time. as far as old women? the news would have been all over it, yet the only old women i saw attacked was the 84-year old that got pepper-sprayed by COPS in Seattle. you want terrorists, check out the guys with badges. like by brothers and sisters have said, you want to know who came to start a riot, just take a look at who came dressed for one.
The moment you tell me to stop watching Fox, you lose the debate. Like many terrorists, you have been trained to tell people to stop watching certain programming the moment you are outsmarted. You do this because you can't win, so you try to change the subject. If you paid more attention to this particular website, you would have seen the video of the elderly woman who was mobbed by OWS terrorists and had to be hospitalized.
You would also be aware of the numerous businesses in NYC that were over-run by OWS terrorists to the point that real customers could not do simply things such as purchase coffee.
You try to change the subject because you are attempting to spread propaganda in defense of terrorist activities. You are a terrorist.
Well to be a terrorist it does take some brains and get up and go, two things in my opinion that are lacking in OWS. Stating that doesn't advocate for anything at all, it is an opinion.
Well you cared enough to create an account to comment. And just for the record I'm not a Republican, never voted for one and never will as I'm not an American.
Only brain-dead PARTISAN TROLLS could watch that trailer and think they were supposed to be OWS. or the Tea Party.
The "Patriots" are supposed to be Anonymous. Now all of you shut up and go back to reading your talking points.
So you are proposing a FPS glorifying the Taliban ("retake a decadent and narcissistic society…").
Awesome. You vote Republican don't you
All I can say is not very bright on their part. OWS is going to change so much by it's release it will be out dated before it hits the shelves.
