Last night Yahoo! premiered its new Screen Comedy Channel with the promise of more big names coming soon. Which comedian did Yahoo! choose to kick start its online streaming series? HBO's resident liberal Bill Maher. During the show, though missing from Yahoo!’s posted version, Maher presented the Obama...

Never figured out how his sticky spidy fingers and feet worked though gloves and boots….
Yeah, I think I'll be skipping this one. I doubt they'll improve on the Sam Raimi's films and the CGI Spider-cam sequence looked pretty bad to me.
It's varied over the years but I know at one point the explanation was something along the lines as he wasn't actually sticky but rather was physically bonding with things at a molecular level via comic book science.
A hipster Peter Parker?
Also, seemed weird with Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and even weirder with Sally Fields as Aunt May.
Why do they make movies from comic books – if the writers don't bother to actually READ the comics they are ripping off?
Wow!!! That trailer would've been cool 15 years ago.
Let's see, there's a new beginning for Spider-man–and Superman and, soon, enough, the Batman franchise is self-destruct and then there will be a new one there. It takes too long for Hollywood to make a move anything more. Viewers get old just waiting for the next installment.
So, to fill in the dead spaces, we have the Smurfs movie based on a thirty year cartoon that’s not on the air anymore and for good reason.
Lather, rinse, reboot.
Looks just like the first one.
I'm don't see the difference between the first one that came out with Tobey Macguire. They could have released an extended addition with the sequences of his parents at the beginning and saved a bunch of money.
It's been less than ten years since the first Spider Man movie first came out. Don't we all already know Spidey's orign by now? From the looks of this trailer , this new Spider Man seems much darker than the Raimi films. That's the trend, of course. The Web Slinger meets "Twilight" with a dash of " The Dark Knight." The best thing about this new version might be Andrew Garfield, who is always excellent. It certainly should be better than Raimi's " Spider Man 3."
This movie is one year away. "Captain America " opens tomorrow and from what I hear it's awesome!
Jezuz H….
Can we please get off the comic books kick, Hollywood? The stories never made any sense – they didn't need to. So you can make a CGI-intense POS for pretty cheap. It's still a POS.
Looks much better than that Maguire nonsense.
Finding it hard to get too excited for this one so far. As lackluster as Spider-Man 3 was in a lot of ways, I still feel they should have let Raimi continue his series, as he was willing to. Costs were expanding vs. diminishing returns, though, so they gambled a cheaper, teenified reboot would still bring in big audiences due to the name value of Spider-Man. And they may ultimately be right.
Covering the same origin ground as the first Raimi film seems kind of lazy to me (Is there anyone, except maybe young children at this point, who aren't at least familiar with that picture?), and certain details like the costume redesign don't really do anything for me. I like some of the casting. I liked Marc Webb's (500) Days of Summer, so I'll probably want to see how he transitions from that to this. Not really feeling it, though.
Why do they keep re-tooling the old stories? Raimi did a good job with Toby Maguire. Leave it alone and write a new story.
Because most comic book characters, if they've been around long enough, have had their origins reworked and re-imagined a hundred times. There is no official canon that you can point to other than when these characters were first created. Wiki a character, and find out that everything you thought you knew was because what you read was the character on a parallel Earth, and all the adventures and struggles he had didn't really happen to the character presented to you now.
Cloudy, the Dark Side is. Cloudy, with a chance of Stupid.
Gotta agree. I don't need to see him bit by the spider again. They could just as soon make that a quick opening credit sequence.
Maybe it's because the last series of Spiderman movies just ended, but this doesn't look that interesting. They don't even show any hint of a villain. If this movie is just about teen angst and a brooding Peter Parker, it will bomb.
I don't know what the contract between Marvel and Sony over spiderman entails. I do know that marvel can not use spiderman in any of their own movies. Maybe if Sony stops making spiderman movies they lose rights to the property? That might explain the remake.. its just Sony trying to turn out more $$$ and hold on to the property.
They've seem to have taken what was a science geek, very smart brilliant teenager and made him emo and Twilight angsty with no head on his shoulders. I'll take the previous version over this any day. All this because their previous star got too "old" for them.
Wow, they turned the new Spider-man into "Mirror's Edge". Ugh.
"The Spider-Man entry in the "Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe" states that Spider-Man is able to enhance the flux of inter-atomic attractive forces on surfaces he touches, increasing the coefficient of friction between that surface and himself. "
Maybe he cut holes in the finger tips and soles? Wild mass guessing, I can say anything.
Too much work.
Didn't Marvel get taken over by Disney? For the love of all that is nerdy, Disney, get in there and do a Spiderman cartoon, a la Gargoyles!!!!
Ultimate Spider-Man is coming soon, with Paul Dini doing his first Marvel work as the main creative force. Strong rumor is that his Peter Parker will be black. Guess they should have just gotten Donald Glover for the new move instead of Garfield.
Yeah. I just watched it and it was VERY evidently CGI. My question is, if they have to tone down Princess Fiona in Shrek because she looks too real, how come they can't make buildings look equally real? I too will be skipping this film. I guess the only difference between this one and the first Raimi film is this gives more back story about Parker's past. I don't read comic books (used to read Spidey in the paper) but can someone tell me how much back story we learn through the years?
I thought the first two movies were terrific. I thought the themes were great, such as "with great power, comes great respsonsibilty" and "to do the right thing sometimes we must give up our dreams" I thought Alfred Molina was great as Doc Ock and JK Simmons was pitch perfect Jameson. Tobey Maguire made a compelling Peter Parker/Spider Man.
While the third one wasn't as good (and even that one had some great themes, such as the power of forgiveness), I really was ticked off that the studio just decided to reboot. I thought there was plenty more story to tell with Raimi's Spider Man. I really feel bad for Dylan Baker, who spent the last two movies playing Curt Conners (who eventually becomes Lizard). He really got hosed out of a plum villain role that his character was building towards.
That's a difficult question to answer because comic book character's back stories tend to be very fluid things. In fact this trailer looks like they've incorporated elements from Ultimate Spider-Man which was intended as a modernized re-imagining of the character from about 10 years ago. In the 40 years prior to that I don't think anyone had every mentioned Peter's parents in his origin story. It just always began with him living with his aunt and uncle.
I think the answer was at one point "special fabric."
This is the film industry equivalent of a palette swap. How lazy can they get?
They already did, and it was awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSDU2tu7rpk
It's about a minute in.
Why would anyone go see this movie ITS BEEN DONE….move on you got about 50 yrs of Spiderman comics to work with….besides it doesnt even look like a Spiderman movie looks like liberal BS….
Well said all the characters were set up I think and hope this movie tanks….
Thanks! That was all I could remember from reading the strip and even though they can only put so much in 3 panels (or 6 or 8 on Sunday), it seems like his parents would have come up at some point in his relationship with MJ because who else influences us as husbands and wives more than our parents.
I like this bit better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FR-du9JZqzQ
It's about 50 seconds in.
It's how geckos do it. Maybe he should be Gecko Man?
Yeah, it's definitely a "make a movie or lose the rights" thing for Sony. Fox is pushing through a Fantastic Four movie for the same reason. And WB is rushing out another Superman film as well, although that one's a bit more complicated situation having to due with the Siegel and Shuster heirs.
Hollywood, stop, just stop it or you get a time out in the corner.
Marvel is just kicking themselves right now…….
It's EMO spiderman.
He's angsty!
