‘L.A. Times’ Profiles ‘Hollywood-Hating, Mainstream-Media-Loathing’ Andrew Breitbart
by HollywoodlandToday’s L.A. Times:
The command center of Andrew Breitbart’s growing media empire is a suite of offices on Sawtelle Boulevard in West Los Angeles with the temporary feel of a campaign office. Only the computers seem firmly anchored.
On a recent summer day, just weeks after he posted video clips that touched off a national furor over race, Breitbart was swigging a bottled Frappuccino at his desk. In a Lacoste shirt, cargo shorts and laceless Converse All-Stars, he looked every bit the 41-year-old industry player he might have been, but for a political awakening that transformed this liberal, West Side child of privilege into a Hollywood-hating, mainstream-media-loathing conservative.

Breitbart, who has emerged as a star of the “tea party” movement, loves telling his apostate’s tale in the italicized, frequently profane manner that is his trademark. Three epiphanies stand out:
1. The Black Dorm Moment. In 1986, Breitbart was a freshman at Tulane University when his friend Larry Solov, a sophomore at Stanford, happened to mention his school’s African-American-themed residence hall.
“He just matter-of-factly said there was a black dorm and I was like, ‘What the friggin’ hell? Are you kidding me?’” said Breitbart, who is now business partners with Solov, a former corporate litigator. “And then, when I found out that it was not segregation in the sense of white people doing it, I was like, ‘What are you talking about? Why aren’t we working toward the colorblind ideal?’”
2. The Clarence Thomas Moment. In 1991, he was riveted by Supreme Court hearings in which the future associate justice was grilled by hostile Democrats.
“I remember the mainstream media telling me, ‘Bad man! Really bad man! Sexual harassment bad man! Worst-bad-man-in-the-history-of-the-world bad man!” he told a Philadelphia tea party rally in July. “By the end of the week, I said, ‘What did this man do? This man is an American hero!’ … It was a cavalcade of Caucasians asking this man about his very private video rentals!”
3. The Kurt Cobain Moment, around 1994. “In essence, the media was saying, ‘Hey, see that guy, that’s your generation’s spokesman,’” said Breitbart, not a fan of grunge music’s suicidal prince. “I was like, ‘This guy seems like a world class [screw-up].’ And I just started to have the awkwardly pedestrian revelation that my parents were right.”

Give 'em Hell Mr. Breitbart!
American pop culture needs a house cleaning, and now is the time to roll up the sleeves and start.
And I just started to have the awkwardly pedestrian revelation that my parents were right Even an LA Times Hit piece can't hide the brilliance.
To reporters: "It's not your business model that sucks, it's you."
If Brietbart has the L.A. times on his back you know he's doing something right!
I'm with him on Kurt Cobain. I was more than a little annoyed when MTV said he was an Icon for Generation X. I, as a member of Gen X, took that as an insult.
From the article, about the ACORN scandal and accompanying video:
"ACORN was embarrassed when some of its workers seemed too helpful…"
Err, a little bit of an understatement, methinks.
The saddest part is that if you were brought up (Breitbart and me) in a liberal cocoon it takes several shocks over several years for common sense and common decency to topple that upside down world-view.
Kurt was never a spokesperson or Icon for Gen X, he was just a stupid addict who wrote some good songs and killed himself. I was annoyed when he did it as I never got to see Nirvana play live, he was meant to tour Australia (I was too young to see him the first tour) but he blew his stupid head off before he did tour.
All the garbage written about him after he ate the business end of his shotgun was nauseating, the way he was built up as if he was the best of his generation made me sick. He was an idiot who should have got off the drugs, got away from that beyotch and kept making music.
Oh. And go Andrew, kick the media where it hurts (and that isn't between their legs as they have nothing there).
Don't be silly. Everyone knows Courtney Love killed Kurt Cobain.
Will Patrick Goldstein be offering rebuttal? Or what passes in those parts for rebuttal?
It's all about hating state run media that is not playing for the American team. Breitbart gets it. Thanks AB.
lol.
In her own way she did, the only pity being she didn't follow his lead.
And they don't even do that very well, do they?
That drove me nuts. I actually heard some turd on the radio once saying that if I didn't recognize Cobain as that generation's John Lennon is was because I was a moron.
The thought leaders are signalling the sheeple there is a new enemy to blame all their problems on. Articles like this are always the means of delivering slogans for the sheeple to parrot–including sheeple political advocates who produce faux journalism in other media outlets.
On race, separate but equal was criticized, but separate but unequal was ok as long as it favors blacks. Colorblind just seemed to be a tactical tool on the road to preferances.
Not interested in reading the article, but did they claim that brietbart is 'nothing but a blogger'. People who write ad copy for democrats while they pretend to be journalists fancy they are gatekeepers to their polital action committee (MSM journalists).
I feel like I need to shower after reading the passive agressive snark and smarm of MSM types when they seek to slip in the knife while trying to conceal the deed.
Reality has a way of doing that to you.
If he does, I'm sure it will some involve a "butt."
Although, I am a fan of Nirvana, I never got on board with most of my generations conformist ways. IE; "I'm doing this to be different", even though it's the trendiest of trends at the moment. Not to mention, to take their political positions as something to actually consider serious; was and still is laughable. Kurt Cobain was a great musician who happened to be f#@$ed in the head.
Screw Kurt Kaboom. Wasted all that talent and potential for nothing….
The videos were a powerful criticism, but what really killed acorn was the msm's attempt to perform jedi mind tricks on the viewers–perpetuated the notion of rampant criminality from the top down.
Reminds me of the folks who thought hunter thompson was some sort of role model, and that his suicide was some sort of principled stand. Hello?
I'm not old enough to really know for sure. But, some how I get the feeling that it's worse nowadays. I could be wrong. That liberal cocoon seems to be more like a prison, and if you break out- you might get shot.
Cobain is highly overrated
and all the cool kids think so too
Compared to the bias parade that is the main stream media, BB doesn't even rate. He simply holds a mirror up to the liberal loons and lets them do all the heavy lifting. The only reason he is coming under fire is that he is getting traction with everyday Americans who are sick of Liberal/marxist doublespeak, both from the left-wing media and the white house. Simple as that. More power to you Andrew!
A renewed attack by the MSM on the alternative media. Reporting for duty sir. ;0) Stand firm, Confront with truth, and Reclaim the Republic.
I think it was Dave Grohl. Love was crazy sure, but that made her the perfect patsy. Who's gone on to wild success and critical acclaim after coming out of Cobain's shadow? It ain't Courtney…
I was in the Pearl Jam camp, so he definitely wasn't an icon to me. Just another loser who couldn't cope with making millions of dollars or something…
I liked Nirvana's music when I heard it the first time…….. when it was played by the Sex Pistols in the late 1970's. Cobain was a good musician but his sound was hardly original. Johnny Rotten and Sid Vicous cornered the market on agnst long before Kurt came around. As a fellow Gen Xer I too did not see how Cobain could speak for anyone, other than drug addled guitar players with suicidal tendencies and a penchant for shotguns. He had a lot of potential and talent, but lacked the courage to actually live life.
You are obviously doing something right! Keep it up!
Yay Andrew … now do your job!!!
CONVICT USS COLE KILLERS!!!
I would rather eat mud than read the L.A. Times.
Breitbart……? I read every day.
Let the morons stay in MoronLand. I don't even argue with them anymore. I just laugh.
For 10 years — four of them without a paycheck — Breitbart toiled in virtual anonymity as editor of the Drudge Report. But some, like Kaus, spotted his talent early on. "I always knew he was going to build something big," Kaus said. "He has that crazy Ted Turner look in his eyes."
Andrew, whatever you do, please don't marry Jane Fonda or ban Speedy Gonzales from television…
Breitbart is the man! And he has nothing to be ashamed of in the Sherrod case. Whether Sherrod grew from the experience or not, she was wrong for using her position of power to disciminate against someone based on skin color. If a conservative had done that to a black person, even if self reporting it years later, there would be blood.
One is defined by their enemies – Andrew is OK!
Well, yeah, this is after all the LA Slimes.
Boy, they sure don't like you much, Andrew. It just goes to show, you're doing something right. Keep it up!
As you will recall, the video he posted included her having the epiphany that white people might merit help too (though she did send the farmer to "one of his kind"), and what came through loud and clear was the NAACP's loud approval of her having the upper hand over whitey. It's only the MSM and the White House that made it into an attack on her, probably to distract from the glaring racism of the NAACP.
Well, I scanned through the rest of the LA Times story (reading more than I usually do there) and they were pretty fair, for the LA Times. Other than their casual reference to "Breitbart's" editing of the Sherrod video to supposedly leave out her epiphany being a misfire (wrong interpretation on all counts), and their weak description of the ACORN scandal, they came pretty close to straight reporting.
I would love to see that Pigford scandal come up for full investigation. And you never know, some of those folks over at Daily Kos and Huffington might have an epiphany of their own over that.
Ummmm … what?
interesting read….AB can't wait for your next "big" investigation to come to fruition….keep doing what you do you rawk!!
Why do people not get called on this "Deceptive editing" lie? The Lady IS a racist, especially if you watch the full 43 minute video. But I hardly see how the excerpt posted was to be considered 'deceptive'.
just a look at CNN's interview with the vanity fair fool about how terrible Sarah Palin is will show ya how bad the media has become in the country..
Whataya' mean "what"?! Andrew needs to jump on the USS Cole story immediately … those guys need to be convicted and the BHO admin. has stopped the process …
People can pat Andrew on the back all day long, but the press is the only way to put pressure on BHO and Holder – Andrew still has a lot of work to do …
Honestly, I really have no idea, that's just something my sister likes to say. Personally, I'm not sure I've ever heard a Nirvana song. Probably have, but wouldn't recognize it if I did.
Kids und der rock und roll muzik! Ach!
Beat me to my tacky reply!
For the amount of newsprint that comes off on your hands when you read the Times, you may as well be eating mud.
Andrew Breitbart is the Jack Bauer of internet journalism.
"We're running out of time! Trust me!"
Breitbart brought journalism out of the grave. Thank God for that. How will we know the truth if no one dare write it? A certain faction of so called journalists in this country would have us all dumb, deaf and blind. Breitbart made a choice, the right one. The Sherrod affair was a nonevent, part of the learning curve. There is a swamp out there to be drained, Mr. Breitbart, let's begain.
It is a Cuba for the mind of the up-and-coming.
The USS Cole was attacked by Yemeni nationals. What are you talking about? How does one "convict" foreign nationals (who are dead) of a crime?
My parents were democrats so I've yet to have Andrews view. : )
To me being a conservative fits perfectly with being a rocker. Independence, freedom, and being yourself….that conservatives not liberalism where everyone is supposed to be the exact same.
There's no telling what hidden talents a hell of a lot of heroin can unlock and magnify!
I remember the sentiment as well and I could see it a little (even though I never liked any of the music of that time, I was more of a blues, classic rock, 80's metalhead) except that Cobain was only as large as John Lennon in an image sense, not even close musically/lyrically though (I'm not really a JL fan either).
I think the hardest thing I've ever done was admit that my parents were right about everything!
Thanks Andrew for all you do to give conservatives like me a voice! Keep up the good work!
Nirvana killed the guitar solo and ended hair metal. A pox on grunge! A pox I say!
But metal has the last laugh.
The day after the police found Cobain's body, Courtney Love sold the suicide photos to Slayer.
They published them in their album, Divine intervention.
The thing I hated most about 90's grunge/alternative was how it felt the need to trash every other genre of music where the artists played "technically well".
I agree with Marty Friedman (guitar player for Megadeth at the time) who saw it as a BS excuse to get all the rock star prestige with no talent.
Yes and Breightbart's offices in West Los Angeles have the "Temporary" feel of a political campaign office:
Those b@St36!$ wish! I remember hearing Rush for the first time around Gulf War I and the energy the show created. I have been reading BH since Breitbart started it and it has that same feel.
I think Mr. Breitbart is going to be a thorn in the liberal's backside for years to come and I am glad to see it!
I am not sure but I think the charges against the Al Qeada mastermind was dropped a moth or two ago. I am not sure why?
Still the comment is somewhat out of left field (no pun intended).
But .. But …
They go to the President of Media Matters for a quote on how BB misrepresents news stories.
I laughed for five minutes straight after reading that.
…..and Andrew glares and grows STRONGER and STRONGER……..
So you didn't rock the flannel shirt and actually cut and washed your hair?
I'm just not sure what to think of Breitbart yet. I agree with him ideologically of course, and I like his style and manner, but I'm just not sure how far he would be willing to go in his quest to take down Liberalism. He seems like the type of aggressive pragmatist who would falsify and deceive for his purposes and I definitely aint comfortable with that, even if its to attack the Liberals.
As always, the IDIOT Commander-in-Chief decided to play politics with this issue. He is a WORTHLESS president and the most arrogant, devisive crudball ever to occupy the oval office. I can't wait for him to be OUTTA HERE!!
Ya gotta love this guy. He has true grit! Keep up the good work, Mr. Breitbart. The nation is behind you!
That the L.A. Times opted to fill up space in the article by describing anti-Breitbart web videos is pretty telling of their bias. I can't imagine them doing that to a public figure that they weren't vehemently opposed to. "Introducing Barack Obama! Also, here's a list of web videos that feature an actor portraying him having sex with animals."
"2010 Man of the Year."
The Hollywood Elite!
In their narrow, little world they only associate with other self-important, Hollywood snobs. They spew their anti-American venom to the unwashed while they flaunt their moral depravity and mental illnesses in front of the World. They preach "tolerance" but they are not satisfied with tolerance, They want full acceptance of their sick lifestyles. In reality, they act the part of heroes while they surrounding themselves with adoring, weak minded worshipers who will never tell them the truth.
FIND ANY ANTI-AMERICAN, ANTI-FAMILY, ANTI-CHRISTIAN, OBSCENE, DEPRAVED CAUSE, AND HOLLYWOOD WILL SUPPLY SCORES OF THESE MOST VACUOUS, VULGAR, PREENING EGOTISTS ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH SUPPORTING IT.

Andrew keep doing what you are doing. You are the only one out there throwing grenades at this 50 year old liberal media mafia. Time we brought these people down. The job of the media is to go after all the crooks in politics on both sides this is how we clean up this pig pen of thieves.
You are the only one out there taking the heat. Go after all the lairs, thieves, crooks, sell outs, party hacks, quislings, scum-bags get them all. If you make a mistake own up to it fast and then hit the ground running. NEVER compromise, you are trying to cut the main artery of the pop culture, make it bleed to death.
My beef is the conservatives we all know that won't back what you are doing if you make a mistake or even what I am trying to do. You can galvanize this conservative army that you know and meet at the B. Be our General Patton and send us who have the will to fight into battle. Divided we all fall, united we can kick their asses to hell and back,
You are doing this with the internet, I want to do this on film and go after the entire mob. It can be done. You have ignited the fires, throw out some matches for the rest of us to light some fires all over their leftist paradise.
Andrew is a true inspiration, he is a fearless warrior and we need to help him change the narrative. He has turned the liberal's tactics back on them, and they don't know how to handle it.
http://theconservativewatchtower.blogspot.com/ http://www.blogtalkradio.com/dcs672001
Normally, I would just not respond, but you don't understand … Al Nashiri (terror mastermind behind Cole bombing) has been held since 2006 at gitmo … now the DOJ has stopped the prosecution and are about to let him go … why? why?! What could the reason be?!
I want the press to dig this out and make Holder and BHO explain it … especially Brietbart!!!
I thought mentioning it here would get Andrew's attention … you know, on the article all about him and how great he is … he probably reads all of these comments, ya know?
Andrew Breitbart Started BH just after the election in 2008. It was the first of his blogs and he managed to inspire conservatives to understand the value of participating in the "entertanment" portion of our culture. It was a statement that I believe took hold especially when the sycophants for Obama kept pushing his ever Orwellian poliicies.
What Breitbart is dong now reminds me so much of how I felt when I first listened to Rush Limbaugh and first heard a true conservative commentator on the airwaves express my beliefs. Rush started something then as well. He was a lone voice against the intelligentsia.
They stated attacking Rush the same way the are attacking Breitbart. I remember hearing various people repeating the RINO whispering campaign. Admonishing Rush for pragmatism, for zealotry, the concerns that he was not honest. Yet we hear the same crap again regarding Breitbart. It has taken me along time to understand that RINO's are not Republican and they do not believe in a conservative agenda and these comments themselves are "pragmatic" and aimed at placing Rush and Breitbart in a political guillotine.
IT ain't gonna work.
Nah. Wasn't my thing. Well, maybe I didn't get a hair cut as often as I should have, but wasn't into blue/purple hair or dirty/vagabond clothing.
Yep, same people. Some of them might be congressman now.
lol. I do remember a lot of other kids all of a sudden sporting brand new flannel shirts, which looked very funny, especially in the summer heat. I never felt the need to change my wardrobe to match the style of music I was listening to, though maybe that was why I never fit it. But seeing middle class kids dressing very working class was funny and gave me a lot to laugh about.
Well you do get about two paragraphs to write a comment. Something like that you might want to include an explanation so that people understand what you are talking about. Otherwise your comment will just get confused with another left wing troll saying something unintelligilbe and negative for the heck of it.
All I know is a blurb I heard on the radio but I was not aware we had this SOB. I say military tribunal is what is needed. Otherwise it is good that you bring the point up.
Absolutely

Washington Post, Aug 26, by Peter Finn, from the Drudge Report
Thank you for your patience, and for not getting rude. Brietbart has raised my expectations of the media and I want to see justice for the sailors on any of our ships. I just hope someone digs up the truth and a conviction follows, the way it was going to happen before BHO got there.
i love the la times!!
Anyone whp makes it a point to mention what a douche Kurt Cobain and all his retarded fans are is a hero in my book.
That's what I didn't get about the MSM reporting of the Sherrod Case. Who cares if the woman had an epiphany? In her own words, she admitted using her position to discriminate against someone of a different color. IF she'd have been white and discriminated against a black, would the MSM be so quick to attack AB for exposing the video? Don't think so. Neo Panthers can brandish weapons outside a voting place and make racist remarks to white voters and the MSM turns a blind eye; a "beat up Whitey" night can take place and the MSM is suddenly deaf. You go, Andrew. Cornered rats always fight back. Liberal media is in a corner. More and more people are onto them.
Well said. I don't always agree with Limbaugh about issues, but I sure agree with him 100% about the "state run media". Big Hollywood has taken on "state run entertainment" and exposed the hideous bias in film; AB and Nolte leading the way. Keep it up, guys. The sound of scales falling off eyes is getting louder and louder as are the screams of "it ain't fair" from state run media like the LA Times.
