Actress Scarlett Johansson once famously swapped emails with future president Barack Obama. Now, the curvy star of "We Bought a Zoo" is carrying Obama's water for his 2012 campaign. Johansson announced she's back on Team Obama, reading off the Celebrity Apology script while chatting to The Huffington Post...

Robert Duvall = Superb Star of Stage and Screen and Authentic American Icon
…with a brilliant take-down of Peggy Noonan…"She wants to be the only woman on the dais."….So True…..
Just a heads up to the poster, the video isn't showing up on the head line on the home page. I can see it fine here.
Duvall gives a great speech in"2nd Hand Lions" about what it means to be a MAN.
I think he was so convincing because he lives it in real life !!!!
Awesome actor and a great man !!!
I have always been a Duvall fan. Huckabee, on the other hand, I just can't stand, and don't trust.
Agreed on Huckabee. He's all for the government nanny state, and jumped on the global warming bus long ago.
That tells me he's a republican politician, not a conservative, and definitely not a libertarian.
As for Mr. Duvall, what a class act. That's the first time I've heard him outside of a movie. Sounds like the kind of guy I'd like to sit around on a front porch during a summer afternoon, split a six pack, and just listen to his stories.
Love Augustus McCrae. When I see Huckabee I think of Jimmy Swaggart.
Gus!
That I can agree on. And I still have not entirely forgiven him for acting as McCain's attack dog against Romney two years ago. Not that I'm a hard-core Romney fan, but that was just inexcusable.
Concur with you 100% Mr. EdSki.
Completely off topic, but how do you feel about Omar Minaya being retained for another year as GM, of your Metropolitans?
That was a great interview. I
I have a very strange relationship with the Mets. When I pay attention to them, they lose. When I ignore them, they still lose, but not as much.
So for most of the season, the most I will do is occasionally check their stats in the morning paper, but very quickly, and then make no mention of them again.
Remember two years ago when they looked like they had the whole division sewed up with two weeks left to go, and the went down in flames? That slide started the day I started bragging about my Mets.
So at this point of the season I am totally ignoring them. I believe they won last night too.
Spooky ain't it?
I love Robert Duvall's acting, although lately I feel like he's been pretty typecast. My favorite role of his was probably Max Mercy, the conniving sportswriter in the movie "The Natural," just because that character was so opposite of how he is in real life. I feel like he as really acting in that role, and he pulled it off so well. He was also pretty good as the consigliere in "The Godfather".
Feel free to come over to the Yankee side if you like…only kidding of course. Some of my closest friends are Met fans, and they've been a little quiet these few years. They don't want to get to confidant when they're winning. Baseball can be cruel sometimes, no way of getting around it. Good luck to your Mets, there is still plenty of season left for them to make a move. Ya nevah know!!
Out here in Seattle, the Mariners are well on their way to losing over 100 games, so the sport fan is looking forward to the Seahawks, and the Huskies.
Great actor, a seemingly great guy.
I live in NY, I'm a Yankees fan too, but I keep quiet on it because of my brother and dad.
I go by the cities the teams are in, not so much the players themselves. And since I live in NY, that means Yankees.
Interesting side note, the town I grew up in used to have the Yanks' AAA farm club, the Triplets. Among other players, Whitey Ford, Thurman Munson and Billy Martin played there. They used to hang out at a local bar, which I've been too. They've got autographs, pictures on the walls, even autographed gloves.
For his workers, the local evil, filthy, rotten corp elitist used to pay the Yankees to come into town and play exhibition games against the farm team, then throw open the doors to the entire town.
Then the highway came through, they had to tear down the old stadium, so the Yankees moved the club, I think to Columbus, Ohio, the Columbus Clippers.
I gave up on the Mets when they became Los Mets.
Not crazy about Huckabee as a politician, but he's a pretty good tv host.
You like BOTH teams? I don't know how you can do that. My dad's cousin pitched for the Yanks from '67-74, so I grew up idolizing those guys cause I met them. As bad as the team was, it mattered not. But things turn around. I believe if one is patient enough they'll be rewarded, witness the New Orleans Saints fan, for example.
The Best character, played by the Best actor, in the Best miniseries, from the Best western novel…..EVER!
Where'd he do his farm team? That sounds around the time the Triplets were winding down.
Yes I can root for both, because I'm not rooting for specific players or organizations, I'm rooting for NY teams.
"Can't anybody here play this game?" — Casey Stengel
and that's what he shoud be…
When I see Huckabee I see a republican Bill Clinton.
Not concerning families and personal morals, but politics of the moment, what ever works at any given moment.
Huckabee IS a Progressive Republican….
Agreed. I used to think DeNiro was the best actor of this generation. But over the last few years I've changed to Duvall.
He's got a range that in my opinion far out paces pretty much every other actor. From the corp. lawyer in A Civil Action to the old master mechanic in Gone in 60 Seconds, to Apocalypse Now, to Geronimo – An American Legend. Mr. Duvall is a master of his craft.
Just like McCain's daughter. Now that explains a lot!! A progressive Republican is someone walking in the middle of the road trying not to get hit.
He played mostly down South in the Carolina league.
The sooner they're roadkill, the better…….
I'm pretty sure he knew some of these guys.
http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/team.cgi...
Two great guys, I just hope Huckabee does not get too comfortable with FOX, we might just need him to clean up Obama's mess.
That's a man.
I too have respect for Duvall. Too many strong roles and good acting over a lifetime not to respect a professional and good man. Huckabee…. I am not sold. To me, he's barely tolerable as a TV host and I'm still afraid he is thinking about running again…. I hope not. And that goes for Romney too, but I think he thinks he has a shot…. they have no chance…. and I'm afraid Newt doesn't either. The next GOP nominee better be a libertarian/conservative/constitutionalist to gain the support of the great middle of America that has had enough of Big Washington Federal BS Government overreach… but that's my opinion…
Yankees? Well we can't always agree but .999 is a great batting average.
Amen, no loss.
When did the become Los Mets?
Ah I forgot about Apocalypse Now! Napalm in the morning… Not a huge fan of the movie, but Duvall is brilliant in it.
I did meet Thurman Munson in 1971, yeah I'm sure he knew some of them. If you could guess who my cousin is, I'd be mighty impressed. Good website, thanks for the link.
ditto.
Duvall just oozes sincerity. Huckabee–he just oozes ooze.
The Huckster can't even clean up his own messes.
I never approach actors when I see them, you kind of get used to seeing them after 8 long years in this awful city, but I saw Duvall in a hotel lobby a couple of years ago and was just dumbstruck, stood there gaping at him like an asshole (he was with another actor and I can't even remember who).
The man is a living legend, true American icon and along with Michael Caine, one of our greatest working actors.
FYI: The only other star who dumbstruck me was Angie Dickinson.
Robert Duval – a rational man with rational thoughts – even if you don't agree with all of them. That's what I see. That's what I like.
ps – he was in a few episodes of the TV series THE FUGITIVE with David Janssen back in the mid '60s…and he still had some hair, but it was fast going even then.
….Ah, Sgt. Leanne "Pepper" Anderson…..struck me like lady lightning in my blushing adolescence….
I just wish he would make another western. I loved "Broken Trail".
Duvall is a man's man. Wish we had more in what is now metrosexual Hollywood.
I think he is out of politics….
He seems to enjoy his show a lot
Sarah Palin reminds me of a Rancher's wife
Tough and tells you what she thinks
Great Line
H8az gonna hate.
*struts out of thread*
I quail at the thought of actually seeing any of my heroes, I do not have many, I would probably never have the courage to actually talk to them, probably just gape and maybe grunt stupidly.
Lemme throw this at your back as you strut out: Forgive me for wanting a politician with some ethics instead of one that has had many ethics charges thrown at him …and some stuck and more should have. The fact that he is supposed to be a man of God is the second strike against him. As was said earlier in this thread, I don't trust him and put him on a par with Swaggart and his ilk. (you know, the ones who want you to give your soul to Jesus but make the check out to them)
Yup, I'm a hater and not ashamed of it. I want a President who is a LOT more conservative and honest than is Huckabee. I'll never, ever vote for him. If he's the Repub. nominee, I will vote Libertarian or Conservative Party or stay home … because all my hopes for the GOP will be dashed forever.
I'd be tongue-tied! He's my favorite actor and one of the best of all time.
The only other actor I ever met was that guy who played "Rizzo" on M*A*SH and I can't even remember his name nor care to go look it up. Nothing against the man, but….
Thumbs up here, my sentiments 'zactly.
Love this movie
The Stars Fell on Henrietta
The ending of that scene has one of the best-acted lines of all time. Duvall is squatting down, fidgeting with the piece of straw? that he's been chewing on and says SO wistfully and with painful anticipation and regret:
"Some day this war's gonna end."
It's on the tip of my tongue. Can't remember either.
I met the guy who played Painless the Dentist in the movie. John Shuck.
Years ago. Nice guy. No big deal.
You must not have seen "Godfather" too many time–Duvall was "Tom Hagen–" I can't think of him in the movies without automatically thinking of the character's name. ;-D
Their careers are sort of reverse ellipses–DeNiro did more leads first then settled into more supporting/character work in his later years, Duvall kind of the reverse.
Big fan of Duvall.
Huck? Not so much.
Duvall has the sense to stay out of the liberal cesspool that is Hollywood lest he become tainted by the madness.
G.W. Bailey
A very young Robert Duvall was also in an episode of the "Twilight Zone" which is rarely seen today, because it was from the season when the series was a one-hour format. The episode is on YouTube (at least until the lawyers at Viacom find out….)
He lives in Middleburg, VA about as far from Hollywood – in every sense – that you can get.
Is this getting warmer? http://www.baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/roster….
If nothing else, he handled himself really poorly when one of the murderers he freed turned around and killed a bunch of cops. He tried to blame the judge for it.
When that happened, I knew he was toast.
Plus, Lewis Black said it best, "Bill Clinton is the reason nobody should be elected President from Arkansas for 100 years." It's just too soon.
One thing I can say is both are excellent at what they do. It just seems to me DeNiro seems to have settled into his tough, NY Italian persona, where as Duvall keeps expanding to different characters.
I can't recall the last time I saw DeNiro in a role where he wasn't playing at least a some what shady NY Italian. Duvall goes from mobster lawyer to army officer, to preacher, to cowboy. He's all over the place. I like that.
Ive not heard meny people call their city awful but i agree for sure. I really respect Duvall a lot he has made meny great films and you can tell he has it figured out where meny in young Hollywood don't. The man has values its a great thing
I agree with that i wish we did now we have men that are more women then they are men and i can't name the number of those in hollywood right now lol. But yeah he is what men should be not the feminist version of what a man should be. Which most of those metrosexuals guys are about as manly as the girls they are with or in some cases the girls are more manly.
I would say you are hot. My cousin, or should say more accurately, my Dad's cousin, is Fritz Peterson. I wish I still had the yearbooks for that year and a couple of others. It was so much fun to go to the Stadium when I was a kid, well it still is, but that particular summer, 1970, while staying at my Grandma's in NJ, we took either the train, or the bus into the city a couple of times to see the Yanks. This was on Fritz's advice as cars had a habit of being stolen in the Bronx a lot at that time. Players cars weren't much safer than the fans'.
That was another good website, thanks for the link,
Cheers!

Enjoy!
BH had a link to an interview with Hu8gh Hewitt some time ago, and he said that that was his favorite role too. Loved the scene in the saloon in San Antonio.
His performance in "The Great Santini" stands out as his best IMHO. Then again he hasn't seemed to have ever given a bad one. With no dialog in "To Kill A Mockingbird" he said more than most actors nowdays can say in an entire career. Thanks Robert for the great performances.
and let us not forget the line "Charlie don't surf!"…loved him, absolutely loved him in that film!!!
Such a good man and a great actor. I admire his awkwardness in talking about politics, and yet I appreciate that he sees things the way I do. Can't forget "Open Range".

Your post is either dishonest or misinformed. He did not release a murderer who went on to kill a bunch of cops. I recommend actually know what the heck you are talking about before making a statement like this. Thanks, feel free to retract and apologize.
Get your facts straight, really, you have no excuse to be this wrong.
I would say Huckabee is more honest than the average politician. Also, just because you think he is Jimmy Swaggert does not mean he is Jimmy Swaggert, frankly your gut reaction means nothing to me without actually backing that feeling up.
Ethics charges mean nothing, charges are not facts, in fact the number of charges debunked show that Huckabee was very good at not getting mired in the corrupt environment of Arkansas ol boy politics.
Honestly, Palin had a ton of ethics complaints against her, were they legitimate? You have been punked by radical liberals, I can't believe you are actually allowing yourself to buy into their cheap politics of destruction.
That's exactly what I was think'n………a great analogy! The kind of woman who would meet the drifters on the porch with a shotgun and they would know quickly she's gonna blast their ass if she has to.
I do believe that Huckabee is a fairly honest individual and I have nothing against him personally. From a political standpoint I feel he is to accomodating to liberal interests. I don't believe he would be strong enough to stand up against the media and ruling elites of Washigtonian liberalism. Therefore while I do think it is wrong to pile on with adhominem attacks against him I don't believe he would serve the Republican or Conservative causes very well if he were to run in 2012. That said there were no candidates in the last Republican primany I couild say this about. So as to those who feel he should stay in his show I agree. I believe from that venue he can be more honest and do us all good.
Plus 1 rep for a well thought out post. I can definitely respect your feelings, I had them at one point as well.
My case for Huckabee is this, don't buy into his genial Democratic sounding nature, he is from Arkansas and was formed in that culture. He sounds like one of them, but he is not one of them.
Let me list some fiscal facts that really drew me to him.
He came into the state with a deficit, he left it with a huge surplus.
He at one point had to raise taxes, he chose the most unpopular, regressive, and unsustainable one possible, a grocery tax. His Democratic successor was forced to get rid of it after inheriting a huge surplus from Huckabee.
He improved education, and fixed the decaying highway system and still left a surplus. Taxes were estimated to have gone up $500 million per year from when he started to when he left, but the surplus was around $800 million. This allowed for significant tax cuts, that while he cannot take direct credit for, essentially made possible and politically necessary for his democrat successor.
Take it or leave it, I think he managed the left fairly well, even if he can come of as a Democrat sometimes. Reagan was the same way, people forget how he was essentially so skilled at smoothing over his conservative reputation by seeming like a moderate.
"More honest than the avg. politician." Wow, that's a ringing endorsement.
Hell, Huckabee isn't even as honest as the avg. Baptist preacher.
How about the ethics charges he was censured and fined for? I can't remember what happened because of his ordering the destruction of all those hard drives, but an honest man doesn't have to cover his tracks.
As to Palin's complaints: From what I've read, most of them were filed by a couple of asshats who held personal (more than political) grudges against her. If any of the charges had been valid, it certainly would change my opinion of her. Nice try at a strawman argument, though.
From my reading in conservative forums, if you're a Huckabee fan, then you're in a minority of conservatives. It was in Ann Coulter's forum where I first read about what sort of person Huck is, and they're certainly not "radical liberals" in that particular discussion board. Last election I extensively researched ALL the Republican candidates and found he was the most liberal of all of them. His ethics charges and poor decisions as gov. of Arkansas sealed his fate as far as my vote was concerned.
You've been brainwashed by ignorant, foam-at-the-mouth evangelical "hucksters". I can't believe you'd allow yourself to be duped by revival tent sleight-of-hand.
Here's the man to which I think you're referring: Wayne Dumond: A reminder of Huckabee's role in his freedom
Won't retract, and I owe no apology. He released a convicted murderer and rapist who killed multiple police officers in Washington back in November of 2009.
And here's the video where he tried to pass the buck to the judge who allowed the declaration of clemency.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12/03/washington.cl...
So there's me knowing what the heck I'm talking about. Your angry bullying doesn't change the facts: Huckabee released a crazed killer who, surprise surprise, killed again. And then he tried to put it on someone else after pushing hard for it.
I don't expect an apology from you for being both rude and wrong. It's okay.
I forgot about Dumond, but it was actually Maurice Clemmons to whom I was referring. Here's the vid:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/12/03/washington.cl...
Do NOT trust the Huck. He's merely a demRAT who is against abortion.
Gus, I mean, Bobby D, appears to be the real deal and is a standout in every role he has undertaken.
Luv "The Great Santini" "When I say something, consider it coming from the burning bush"
I am sad that you are apparently unable to realize that every single accusation is unsubstantiated. The individual claiming to have been strong armed only did so after being fired years later and during an election year. Poindexter essentially claims he went against his better judgment because Huckabee had some greater knowledge of what constituted the state's best interest than he did and that he was shocked to discover that this trust was somehow misplaced. Add to this how Huckabee, despite being sympathetic to DuMond, denied his clemency request four times.
It shows that you are unable to use discernment in the reading of an article or simply are unwilling to think critically about the article.
GW attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock. So did Barry Corbin. And John Denver.
RW&B, you're dealing with something akin to Obama supporters; you know the type, the ones that faint at his political rallies, the same sort that gets a tingle up their leg.
I told you, I was referring to Clemmons. Video above.
