"Sully" survived 30 days alone in the jungles of New Guinea after crash-landing his P-38 Lighting. After a life-or-death altercation with a tribe of headhunters, Sully escaped into the jungle and is alive today to tell the tale. When we visited Papua New Guinea to locate the wreckage of his plane, we learned that his story is still being told among the locals in the interior of the country. A fascinating account – and a rare opportunity to meet a WWII fighter ace!

It really is important to honor and recognize the sheer sacrifice and commitment of our men and women in uniform. It think it's equally important to simply humanize those incredible individuals willing to put their lives on the line for the basic freedoms in which this country embodies. It's not about glorifying war, of political agendas…it's about powerful stories with real emotion and that's what the GI Film Festival represents.

This is, I think, the third year and I haven't seen any MSM coverage to date. Better they ignore it than pan it. I wish I could attend but will support it by buying a tee shirt. The film slate slooks great. I hope I get to see them on video in the future. Good luck with the festival.
