Daily Gut: Women — The Next Endangered Species

There`s nothing I love more than female celebrities helping out troubled beasts or endangered species. You`ve got Pam Anderson worrying about the polar bears, Doris Day fretting over abandoned cats and dogs – and of course, Sheryl Crow passionately fighting for wild horses currently roaming our country. Apparently, Crow`s mad at the government for trying to remove 25,000 mustangs from the range, in an effort to send them to greener pastures.
I feel her mane.
But as much as I admire all their work protecting those who can`t protect themselves, it makes me wonder: would they do the same thing if they were the ones who became endangered?
I`m talking about women.
Right now, according to new research, more than 24 million Chinese men of marrying age could find themselves without wives in 2020. They are screwed, (figuratively, anyway) and sex-specific abortions are being blamed. The study, which underlines what we`ve known all along, said the nation’s “family-planning policy” has led to rural parents aborting females – because they prefer boys for their greater earning potential, and as caregivers for parents when they get wrinkly. And that`s led to a male-female ratio as high as 130 males for every 100 females, making it not quite as bad as West Hollywood.
So what does this mean?
Well, forget that the most championed women`s right ends up eliminating women – I`m more interested in the outcry from places like NOW.
Or maybe it`s an “incry.”
Whatever the case, I haven`t heard it.
I mean, I know fetus`s aren`t as adorable as kittens, and you can`t ride them into the sunset to the tune of “Every Day is a Winding Road,” but it`s got to creep out even the most ardent feminist – that in the age of feminism, it`s the femme that`s endangered. You can`t march for abortion rights, when there`s no women left to march for it.
But the real loser in all this?
Pandas. None of them are safe now.

There's already sex selection abortions in the US. They don't have a problem with that. Why are they going to worry about China? As for the Chinese, just desserts I say for their contemptible policy.

All those animals deseved to be saved, even Pandas. Most of these celebs don't have, or plan to have, kids, so no big loss…

On a serious note: it's not just the Chinese female population: what about the brutality in Muslim countries?
My blood boils that women are assaulted all over the world in the name of politics and/or religion.
It would be funny if it were not so unfortunate.
A couple of thoughts:
You know some smart folk are going to selectively abort their male children because they know if they raise a girl she'll have her pick of the men and then they can get the benefits of being the in-laws to one of these men-with-better-earning-potential. Then they don't have to worry about raising their own son to get rich … they'll get to pick of dozens of rich son-in-laws.
I wonder how long until the Chinese government embraces homosexuality as a preferable lifestyle and starts pushing it off on their people … get all these extra men to go gay and 1) they'll be happy without the women and 2) they won't breed (which was the original goal of their family planning program).

However, the ratio of *real* men to women and other epicenes in West Hollywood is much more like 1:100.

To Quote Mark Steyn, China is not going to become the next Gay Superpower. What will happen is that China will conquer neighboring nations to take their women. This same dynamic happens with Muslim nations — polygamy reduces even rich/middle class guys to zero marriage prospects, i.e. no family, merely meaningless sex that results in no children with prostitutes or porn. Hence suicide Jihadis whose beef is not poverty (they were all middle-upper-class or rich) but lack of reproduction.
Islam has historically "solved" its problem (polygamy has the same effect as selective sex abortion) by conquering other peoples, killing all the men, and taking the women as sex slaves/concubines/wives. In fact, this is what Mohammed did repeatedly. China btw has "Big Men" with many women in their harems, making the situation very explosive. Defacto polygamy probably makes about 50 million Chinese men who will never have a wife eager and willing to kill other peoples to take their women.
This makes a US war with China over rule over the Western Pacific, including Australia, over the most scarce resource, women, inevitable.

I have a question. I am assuming these rural Chinese people don't have access to ultrasounds, so how exactly are they aborting babies that they know are female? It seems to me more likely that they are actually having daughters and then killing them. If someone knows a reason this is wrong thinking, please tell me.

There's a lot of beautiful Chinese girls and they are all being raised in the United States. There are four in my small neighborhood. For years the lack of adoptable babies in the US (all aborted) have turned parents to the many Chinese girls in orphanages. So here we have tens of thousands of healthy Chinese girls raised with every advantage Western civilization can give; dentistry, good nutrition, excellent schooling.
Across the planet you have hundreds of thousands of single Chinese men, with no possibility of finding a wife. What do you do if you are the government of such a country? I shudder to think what the logical answer is.
Unless an amniocentesis is done, a fetus' sex generally can't be determined by ultrasound until after 12 weeks. This means unless the amnio's done, all these Chinese abortions are SECOND trimester. That means, they're killing, at the bare minimum, these:

That is actually probably what goes on. I have heard that sort of thing has been going on in India for ages (killing girl babies by throwing them in the river, and so forth) and they are also having a problem with their man-woman ratio.

Aw, little cutie. I object to abortion PERIOD, and it amazes me how anyone can justify it, ESPECIALLY at such a late stage when it's so obviously a little baby!
I have no doubt that's a large part of it. With China's commitment to universal health care and other so-called "rights," I imagine there is some considerable access for rural Chinese to ultrasounds, so there are probably many actual abortions being performed, but hey, infanticide also works.

My youngest sister was adopted from China because my parents read something along these lines. Mr. Gutfeld speaketh the truth. My parents went to China with a big group of other adoptive parents, and as far as I know, all of the kids who were adopted were girls.

Historically the way you get rid of surplus males is through war. Societies having a "youth bulge" have become more warlike. A society with a male-only youth bulge should be worse. On the other hand, China may be one country where 24 million is not a significant number.

In China there are not only sex selective abortions but also people just plain and simple killing female babies and children and have been doing so on a grand scale for the past ten years. Please put this into perspective and understand that with or without legalized abortion this would still be happening in the same numbers because of Chinas economic and cultural situations and standpoints. If you are truly interested and appalled by this (and you sound be – in fact you should have been appalled by this 10 odd years ago) then get involved. This is also a major problem in India and many other Asian countries and has been for a long time. This is not about abortion. This is about a culture and an economy and the way thye treat and view women. Please educate yourselves. Don't blame celebrities for not getting involved (a great many are by the way)…are you involved? No? Then get involved.

Um, no. One child policy + the cultural prejudice that males are better than females are what's to blame. This is what leads to sex-specific abortions. They are also common in India, again more frequently with female foetuses. This kind of ingrained misogyny is exaclty what feminists have a long track record of complaining about, and it means those countries have, not too much feminism, but too little.
