Daily Gut: America’s Gifts to the World
by Greg GutfeldThe climate change conference is long gone, but with Christmas just around the corner, I figured there had to be a connection. Also, I’m writing this after a holiday party, so I’m drunk.
As President Obama says, let’s be clear: that comical Copenhagen conference wasn’t about science, it was about wealth transfer. The gist: because of America’s “hyper-industrialization,” we need to pay off poor countries for all the harm we’ve caused in the world. That’s the real green in the green movement: It’s cash, not grass.

What’s this have to do with Christmas? Well, I think the world has forgotten that the biggest gift to this planet is America’s industry – and it’s time to remind them where they would be without it.
1. Whenever a horrible disaster hits, they would be dead. Be it an earthquake, a tsunami or a Madonna tour – we’re usually the first and biggest responders – saving the injured, and helping to rebuild. It is because of our tremendous capability to mobilize quickly that makes us a nation of superheroes. It also takes planes, trucks and tractors to do that stuff. Imagine that carbon footprint.
2. If they ever get sick, they would be dead. It’s true. While critical cretins like Chavez and Mugabe actually harm their own people, we save millions of strangers’ lives. Even that bozo called Bono admits it was George Bush who helped prevent the death of millions of Africans from AIDS. Yeah – I know what our critics will say: it’s easy for America to do this stuff. Well, it’s even easier not to do it.
3. If their family is hungry, they would be dead. Let’s not forget Norman Borlaug, who invented disease resistant wheat, saving hundreds of millions of lives in India and Pakistan. You can only do that if you’re of an industrial mind – thinking about people, not polar bears.
4. If they’re under the thumb of fascism, they would be dead. We possess the greatest military technology in the world, and we’ve used it to end horrible wars. Our industry of annihilation gave new life to many countries.
In sum, the very people complaining about America would not be alive, if it weren’t for America. Which is why, I say to them: Merry Christmas.
It sure beats a pair of socks.
Tonight we have the lovely Remi Spencer, the delightful Mike Baker, the witty Steven Crowder, and the always awesome Dr. Michael Baden.

ahhh, we all know… like Bill Oh…. that you celebrate HANNUKAH!!!
After seeing Avatar, I'm not so sure… maybe we should let the natives live in their shit, raping and killing each other for their mother god, and following a religion that gives every 10 year old boy an AK-47. America sucks! Don't you know we kill black children? Oh wait… that's primarily a Pro-Choice issue…. or is it Captialism… oh wait, Planned Parenthood is profit motive… oh wait they are govt funded… by our tax money… I'm so confused! Am I drunk too? I stopped drinking 6 years ago… it must be the balsamic vinegar/olive oil/mustard/lemon dressing… delectable!
If I may add, Dictators like Idi Amin Dada Oumee, AKA Big Daddy, among some aliases not repeatable,
Would still be dictating, eating the citizenary, is that a word? if we had not provided the funds(aid to Africa)
for him to embezzle and live very nicely in France.
I kind of agree.
I visited a wheat transfer station, they were rebagging the wheat. It seems that the American flag was objectionalble to the people we were feeding for free.
If that's the really the case then let them eat each other, I am really starting not to care a bit about the various America haters or their people even if they are not one in the same.
I have been to a lot of places around the world, we are not as hated as many think, but enough that I dont have much use for worrying about other countries anymore, their problems are mostly caused by leadership not lack of opportunity or resources, kind of like America under Obama.
Being the worlds safety net is becoming less and less appealing to me, that's the problem with biting the hand that feeds you, eventually it stops caring, then it just stops trying.
I love America! We have come so much farther in just 300 years than some countries have come in 3000 years!
They don't have to eat our wheat if our flag offends them. I wouldn't be the least offended. Infact, the money saves from rebagging can pay for medicine along with the wheat. Let their hatred for us kill their children if they won't touch a bag of wheat with Old Glory on it! Fuck'em!
This sentiment was echoed back in the (early?) 70's by Canadian broadcaster Gordon Sinclair. Made me proud then, makes me proud now.
I think we should be a little less eager to help. Let them ask for our help instead offering it.
Not enough Americans speak up for America like this. Too many Americans are "hypnotized" by
negative lying LSM news that gullible liberals believe and then repeat like "mindless" parrots
and then actually act like they know what they are talking about.
Happy Holidays to all of our Great American troops out there.
let them come begging with hat in hand and on bended knee
Greg you make more sense drunk than most people do totally sober. I am sick to death of all the hating of my country. Obamarama and his 'ilk' will not be satisfied till we are eating rebagged grasshoppers from middle Africa. If some people in this country don't grow balls soon, consolidate this rage that is firming up in the middle heartland, group together the REAL patriots in this country, we might as well just turn out the lights and hand over the keys.
Agree absolutely. In fact, Congress should legislate it: every bag/box can has the Stars and Stripes, and may not be distributed without it.
Third-world shithole beggars can't be choosers.
or groveling on their faces
But Dumbledore wants a pair of socks!
Yeah, America's great. Especially when the invade countries and destabilize them causing the deaths of thousands of civilians. And they're also great when they support right wing dictators that torture and murder their own people.
Yep…he's drunk alright. But i like to think of that fact as a saving grace…it makes this otherwise inane drivel a bit less contemptible.
If you think that America is simply altruistic (it must be because we're a Christian nation, dont'cha know…) you must have your head firmly implanted in…the sand. That's not to say we don't do *any* good in the world, but to pretend that the US has naught but good intentions is to entertain delusion.
Much of American industry's 'contributions' to the rest of the world are opportunistic, and a good bit of it has backfired (i.e. Bechtel's construction of chemical facilities in Iraq used to make chemical weapons, which we [not to mention the Kurds, and the Iranians before us] are now paying for in the form of war, as these weapons were part of the 'justification' for getting into that mess in the first place). Television pundits, etc. try to paint an overly simplistic or benevolent picture of American interaction with the world at large; that we simply give aid to other countries out of the goodness of our hearts, and without expecting anything in return. The reality isn't quite so simple, nor so rosy. Much government and corporate interest in other countries has everything to do with opening new markets to American trade (which isn't a malevolent aim in itself), but more importantly to secure cheap sources of labour. Why are American corporations invested so heavily in places like China, in spite of the fact that China's authoritarian government runs counter to most Americans' notions of liberty and human rights? Because it's cheap, and because the Chinese authorities, in their drive to encourage foreign investment, don't have the environmental regulations we do in the States, nor the labour protections, etc. You can chain a child to a sewing machine for 14 hours a day in a factory that belches acrid smoke into the air with impunity, and sell the goods produced there in America for 5000 times what they're worth. Or how about World Bank and IMF loans designed to cripple developing countries under insurmountable debt, in order to drive down the price of labour (i.e. Jamaica).
Also, consider the fallout from dictators we've propped up in the past–the Diem regime in Vietnam, Augusto Pinochet, Manuel Noriega, the Shah of Iran, the Saudi Royal family…shall i continue? How about Osama bin Laden? Our CIA trained him, as well as the Afghan Mujahedeen…and you see how well that's worked.
No, i'm not a 'bleeding heart liberal,' nor do i 'hate America.' i love my country…i'm just pointing out that it's foolish to hide behind a "Who, me?" countenance when the mess is in plain sight. The reason for the criticism–which far too many small-minded people mistake for 'hating America'–is that we've done more than our fair share of damage in the world, and no amount of nationalist rhetoric is going to change that. As a republic, we should be concerned with what government and business (or a collusion of both) do in our names. For my part, i wish we didn't behave so recklessly as a nation, and that we would place more emphasis on a sustainable economy.
Likewise. I am trying to remember anything but EXTREMELY cordial relations and very relaxed, pleasant interaction with anyone from the 15 or so countries I have "visited", been deployed to, whatever. Then again, mud Marines don't make many appearances at clinking glass cocktail parties. That's okay. The company was better and the beer was always ice cold.
100% truth!
You can be assured, It is appreciated. Especially coming from SF!
Merry Christmas to ya and a happier new year for us all.
Nuh-uh, I make a lot more sense then Greg does, drunk.
Okay, I'm tappin' a keg tonight. I'll be back in about three hours…….
or passed out.
uh huh uh huh
ROnniE rAYgUN ronNIE rAyGuN rOnnIE rAygUn…..
Uhhh Whut? Ma krassh helmut es toooo tite.
Grow up, retard.
98ZJUSMC – Back at ya! Thanks, stay safe. There's still a few real Americans out here.
And in their feces.
Douche
the mess is in plain sight.
The mess being in plain sight is an American phenomenon that leads to skewed judgments against America based on a comparison between our relative transparency when acting in the national interest and the misguided idea that a lack of reportage means that other nations aren't actively screwing us at every turn. That's not to say we don't do *any* harm in the world, but to imply that the US is somehow in the same ballpark of global and human rights abuses with China and Russia (our security council pals who are blocking any chance of stopping the Iranian nuclear march) because we continue to deal with those nations is dangerously naive.
This reverse delusion of American might where the world's problems can be traced back to an American foreign policy root (the Shah/Islamic revolution, etc) assumes that we are so powerful that nations would not do these things without our actions to react to. The world goes the way it does because of the will of some people to power and of other peoples' response to it. America needs to act in its national interest first, and no amount of hand-wringing, navel-gazing narrow focus on American failure (however well cataloged) or vague mention of a sustainable economy (or, for that matter, our conversation about these things) is going to keep us safe from those who would destroy the republic. Our military and intelligence services are going to do that.
Whatsamatter sweetheart, no drugstores open?
Joe, your first sentence is right on target. Great post.
That's true, I was in Europe about this time last year and some Greek guy came up and said to us, "Hey, Americans! All right!" Of course, he then congratulated us on electing Obama president, so maybe that's a bad example.
I have a scumbag, coke snorting, drunken cousin. He also constantly criticizes his wife, both to her face and behind her back. He says that he loves his wife, he just makes here aware of her defeciencies. This is B.S. He criticizes her because he has an abusive personality and takes joy in tearing her down. In his own sick mind her benefits from tearing her down, so he can build her up in his own image — a self-hating drug addict. Likewise America Hater say they love America. They hate America as she exists and want to tear it down so they can reform it to their liking. Soros hates America because he does not run it. He craves power. Lazy losers hate America, because it enables people to work hard and gain the respect of others.
Joe, to quote the great English author, D.H. Lawrence, "You're an idiot."
Didn't we put the American flag on those things because other people (local warlords, etc.) were trying to claim credit for the food?
So let's say I live in an old west town and am a cobbler. One day I go to the barn raising for a neighbor rancher and help him build his barn along with several others in the town. No let's also assume I am a 6'8" giant who can bench press 400lb and was a great help to this neighbor. Your suggesting I am a son of a b$^&* because I tell the guy I am selling shoes. Now a guy comes into to town and needs boots so I make boots for him. Am I also responsible if a year later he starts robbing banks and becomes one of the biggest outlaws on the plains.
But as to Noriega, the Shah I remeber it was the US Governent who got them out of power. Hmmm……. However what does this matter? So its true some mistakes were made in the past we now have to ignore and are even to be considered the town drunk if we point out the overwhelming good this country has done around the world. You think America is so evil then you tell me which country is more moral and give examples I'd like to know.
You know I find it amazing all the talk of American Imperialism being bad because corporations take over their countries. For the last century we invented most of the new technology in use in the world and have been willing to sell it to make a profit.
So by Libtard logic the thing to do should have been to seal of the borders and never allow anyone outside America to gain any of these inventions. The rest of the world should live in the 19th century riding in horse drawn carraiges while we had planes, automobiles, the cotton gin, the computer, electric lights et. al. because it would be immoral to sell that to the rest of the pristine world.
Yes thank you American progressive I do want to live in my own feces while you have running water…. no that's right to have such modern conveniences would mean I am no longer in touch with Gaia as all other races are supposed to be…. no that's not racist at all.
See it's true if you disagree with Greg Gutfeld you are a RACIST!
Go get 'em Greg.
Yea, the United States has not been a perfect country just more perfect than the majority. As far as the CIA training Bin Laden where is the evidence of that. Yes the United States supported the Afghans against the Soviets, but we did not assist the Taliban, which did not take power until 1996. There is the world as you would like it to be and then there is the real world in which we live.
So we should apologize and bow at every opportunity and give all we have to other crooks? You don't just see the glass half empty, you can't even see the water! Is this how you run your life, or your business? There are good people and bad people in every country and every political party. Nobody is perfect but in the struggle to become perfect, the United States and its people have become excellent, the best in the world. THAT'S WHY EVERYBODY ELSE WANTS TO COME HERE! WAKE UP!
Wise words are easily recognized!!!!!!!!! Americas' success is the result of the labors of a free people, with the belief in a God (Other than the one residing in Washington DC), who dictates morality (Honesty (Something of value(Kept promise)))!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They're also great when they help France and England from getting demolished in WWII, and they're also really great when they took no crap from Russia during the Cold War.
Lay off the Chomsky, big guy.
Awesome Mr Gutfeld, but you made an error. Norman Borlaug is credited as saving a Billion people!
He's right. Wouldn't America be better if it minded its own business while foreign dictators kept their countries stable by torturing and murdering millions of their own civilians!?!
Fortunately for…
…Western Europe
…China
…The Philippines
…South Korea
…The Balkans
…Iraq
…and Afghanistan
Average Joe is not in charge.
Unfortunately for
…Vietnam
…Laos
…Cambodia
…Burma
…Iran
…Lebanon
…and Somalia
people like Average Joe used to be in charge.
And you're sooooo right, they WOULD be eating eachother
So true, we have come farther in 300 years than the rest of the world, EVERY civilization COMBINED, has ever gone.
There was a guy on the radio today who said the difference between Liberal and Conservative philosophy came down to whether or not you thought the United States' societial and economic structure should follow the failed European model or be an example for the rest of the world to follow. We've lost position from where we were, but if this guy and his willing accomplices would just get out of the way, we would have a better chance to be exceptional again.
Please name 1 country better, just 1, please
nicky, sweetie, look in the mirror when you say that
It would be a sorry World Indeed if it wasn't for Uncle Sap. That's common Knowledge. Even the envious America haters know that.
Well I wrote that after a Christmas party so I was drunk.
And you're great at name calling, a trait common on this site, but that's about it.
Well blackHat, I'm happy to see that you discovered America sometimes does things for its own benefit. I'm even more impressed you figured out all by yourself that American Industry is opportunistic. I always thought they went to all those other countries cause they liked the commute. And how dare industry "chain a child to a sewing machine 14 hours a day" cause I'll bet the child would have been much happier starving to death by the age of 3 from the lack of industrialization in his country. Or maybe the child would have liked to see his parents hacked to death with a machete from the civil unrest due to no industry. Those are much better environments for children don't you agree? continued
And those poor Jamaicans, too bad they aren't smart enough to make good business decisions for themselves. But with a gun to their head and all, I suppose they had no choice but to accept the loans right?
How about we compare the fallout of the dictators we have taken out to those we propped up? While your at it, please explain to me how taking pride in your country's achievements is "nationalist rhetoric" and how you think that categorizing it as such is not hateful of America? Why do all of your examples of things backfiring on us happen 25 years later? How can we possibly know what is going to happen geo-politically 25 years in the future? Although, you do make a good case for doing nothing about climate change.
For my part, I wish we didn't think so childishly as a nation, and that we would place more emphasis on education to prevent people like you from forming such "small-minded" myopic opinions.
Dan, what took you so long? The war started in 1939 and you guys didn't get there until 1943? It wasn't until you were attacked at Pearl Harbor that you jumped into the fray. Until then you were contented to leave England stranded and the rest of Europe floundering under the Nazi yoke. England, with the help of the commonwealth, pretty much saved itself in World War II. Germany tried to bomb them into submission and lost the Battle of Britain.
Go order yourself a plate of Freedom Fries.
What's your definition of better?
and yet the inarguable fact remains that until the big dog got in the fight, the little dogs were getting their collective asses beat to a pulp. so, mr. history professor, what would have been the outcome without us?
you're nitpicking on a grand scale and making a fool of yourself, on a grand scale, at the same time.
No, we have not done "more than our fair share of damage". We have done far less. Especially considering the amount of power the US wielded since the first world war.
If you know any history or follow the policies of other countries, it is obvious. Well, other countries don´t advertise their misdeeds, they don´t make movies about them and their celebrities and thinkers cannot score points by emphasizing them. The US is unique even in that.
I live in Europe. There would not be a Europe today without the United States, except as a geographic description. It is that simple. And you cannot do good without knowing and understanding that. You also have no business calling others small-minded.
I would never claim that corporations are automatically beneficial. Corporations have no soul, they are value neutral. However, American industry and inventiveness – and the ability to turn inventions into products – in general have done a lot of good, more than any other country´s. They did so due to a tradition of entrepreneurship, low regulation and free markets. A tradition that is now endangered, but you cannot blame conservatives for that. It is true that they didn´t always to good. Even then, others have not done better. Iraqi chemical facilities were built by French and Germany companies as well. And Saddam was armed by others, as are all other thugs in the world today.
More importantly, the US is the one country that foregoes profits by, for example, imposing unilateral sanctions on Iran. WE always have to lobby others – Europeans, Asians – not to trade with dangerous and brutal regimes. Happens all the time. Why don´t you enumerate the cases where America was isolated in pursuit of a noble goal? Don´t they teach that in school?
As for propping up dictators, the context of the Cold War matters. Opposing the spread of communism was a highly moral goal. No other country sacrificed more to achieve it. In a world of unpleasant choices – usually imposed on us by Communist forces – the regimes you mention were each of them better than the alternative. In the case of Diem and the Shah, we know. Pinochet gave up power and left Chile in better shape than he found it. Do you think Spain could have modernized so fast if it had been a Soviet Republic for 50 years? Look at Ethiopia in the 1970s where the Soviet model prevailed. Look at any place where the Societ model prevailed.
The US dropped their support for "our bastards" at the end of the Cold War. At least until recently.
Note that the unnecessary support of thuggish regimes, whether exercized by Nixon or Obama, is often praised as "realpolitik" while the two recent Presidents who put a moral vision at the heart of their foreign policy were hated for it. I´m talking about Reagan and Bush, of course.
PS. The CIA didn´t "train" Bin Laden.
Yes, we gave up on the Shah – and then everything got worse. We also cut off Batista months before Castro came into power – and then everything got worse.
We happily gave up on Noriega and the rest of the bastards as soon as the Cold War was over. Where we didn´t succeed in holding back pro-communist forces, far more people died. In most cases, they are still trying to recover. And some try to blame us for that, too, which tells you more about them than us.
Of course. If the vast majority of the world's population didn't think America was great they wouldn't be risking life and limb to get here anyway they can.
Those left behind have different goals, the politicians, the powerful, the aristocracy, since they already have it nice and cushy, they see no benefit in America, and plenty of gain from dissing it.
Natan Sharansky wrote ome of the most common methods dictators use to control their populations is to cut off news from the outside world (or restrict it as much as possible) and then convince the population there is a greater threat to them than he (or they) are. For example, North Koreans may despise their dictator, but as long as he can convince them that the US would be even worse, the population is more likely to tolerate his abuses.
And nothing makes a better scape goat than the US and Israel. Democracies always look scary to those who have never experienced them. What we see as the normal rough and tumble game of politics, must look like total chaos to those who's lives are rigidly controlled by the state.
Another reason other governments and cultures hate America. We make them look like the chumps they are.
And they know it.
Sane brain in NY checking in!
Will we be able to tell the difference?
(snarc\\ sorry, couldn't resist. Merry Christmas)
Don't know a whole lot about World War II do you….
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lend_lease_act
what's yours? and before you mention Switzerland, or Sao Tome, or some other pinpoint that would be hard pressed to get its own post office in this country, just because you think they've never done anything BAD, any standard must necessarily include a fair accounting and credit for the GOOD.
For the record, I will state unequivocally that The United States of America is not PERFECT. So stipulated. Now, back to Hanzo's question: Name a better one.
I visited a wheat transfer station, they were rebagging the wheat. It seems that the American flag was objectionalble to the people we were feeding for free.
I dunno. I think that is one of the many reasons why America is so awesome. Some people find our flag objectionable and we give them free wheat anyway!
Amen, Greg. Merry Christmas!
Wasnt Idi Amin Dada a cannibal? Seems I heard that somewhere back in the 70's. He would eat his enemies. But the Israeli Defense Force showed him what's what.
My grandmother was born in 1896, went Home in 1982. She went from horse and wagon to watching men walk on the moon – American men. No other country can say that.
Most people would probably even take it if it had a picture of Behar on it, but their are exceptions, for instance some governments have made us out to be so bad that the people think we are monsters wanting to poison them and there children, but for most hungry is hungy.
The main problem is that the leaders want to take credit, or even more likley they simply want to bad mouth us (above) at the same time that the are living off of us.
Personally I have had enough of it, I am not against helping people, I am against being their support mechanism while business continues as usual its counter productive to feed rabid dogs and the tired lefts argument that if we dont they will be even more rabid is a joke.
Thats all thats common, or thats all thats a trait? You really should stay on the meds, your points would as stupid but maybe a bit more clear…maybe.
Your understaning of history is breathtaking, and by that I mean I laughed so hard that I could not catch my breath.
Who do you think supplied england with war materials genius?
Regardless you are for war or against war, it's a little confusing, but then much of what you spew is typical leftist contradictory non sense.
It might make us feel better, but its not that smart.
In general outside of emergencies I don't think giving stuff away is really all that compassionate, it just keeps things stable, and if crazy left wing nuts or fascist religious dictators or simple self serving America hating is the order of the day who wants to keep that going?
Not me.
IntenseDebate Notification <DIV>Well Joe, you harped on all of your perceived misgivings of the U.S.A. Remember, ourgovernment isn't always representative of the \”Average Joe\”(pun intended!) Do you realise, young man, that we, the people of this great country give more to charities and other actual benevolent organisations( which DO help literally MILLIONS of poor and 'disadvantaged'people) than the rest of the world combined? That, my man, is what I meant by \”BETTER\”! God Bless
Those American industries "went to all those other countries" because they have a SANE attitude towards industry in general and haven't yet tried to regulate/tax them out of existence. American industries didn't "abandon" America…they were DRIVEN out by people like you who think the government/labor unions have a mandate to set wages and prices. (Hint: They DON'T!)
He was everything you might imagine a despotic dictator can be.
No outrage from Jesse Jackson either other than the equivalent of a tut tut you might
expect from a, well I won't say it.
That's true, america did supply a lot of war materials but no troops for a long time.
That's all well and good EdSki but where were the troops?
Ah yes, more name calling. Still. what took you guys so long.
Well Afghanistan is the perfect example. America couldn't have cared less about what the Taliban were doing to the Afghani people until 911 when it was to America's advantage to help them.
Unlike today's military, in the past the US standing army was usually regulated to about 10,000 – 15,000 troops. Most of them engineers. It takes time to build, train, supply and move large armies.
The same thing happened during the Civil War when over half the standing army were engineers assigned to Lee for a project to reinforce certain river banks in the Mississippi to prevent erosion to cities. 3/4 of them resigned and joined the Confederacy. General Winfield Scott had to basically build an army from scratch. That's why it took three years before the Union started winning any major battles.
Back to your point, before Pearl Harbos, FDR routinely dispatched destroyers (do sailors count as soldiers?) to follow German submarines, track them, and relay the information to the British fleet. Which by the way, could very easily interpreted as an act of war.
No but it reads better
Wow Average Joe, I don't know much about WWII history, but from reading your posts you sound as though you are blaming America for much of the death and destruction in WWII. Wasn't it the willful neglect and appeasement strategy by Europe's leaders that emboldened Hitler to steamroll his way through Europe? And now you're blaming America for taking too long to do something about the imminent threat that Europe was either too afraid to confront or simply too ignorant to recognize. I remember the same plot occurring in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina where an inexperienced incompetent liberal Mayor and Governor dodged any and all responsibility for their lack of preparedness and successfully shifted all of the blame for the aftermath to the President of the United States. continued
It's funny cause this scenario seems very similar to what Bush was trying to avoid or preempt through his "Cowboy Diplomacy" in regards to this war on terror. A war that much of Europe still chooses to ignore today. And one would have to be blind to miss the uncanny resemblance to these plotlines and those that are currently unfolding in Iran. Gee, I wonder who is going to have to disarm that powder keg once Europe figures out that Ahmadinejad actually meant what he said all those years.
Sorry but this statement is patantly false. There are many many articles in dozens of US publications prior to 9/11 that addressed the oppressive regime in Afghanistan and called for the US and world to get involved. It is cute how you excuse the rest of the world from doing anything about the Taliban or any other oppressive regime, but will not hesitate in blaming America for any negative outcome resulting from its efforts. That's gratitude for ya!
glad I could help.
But no boots on the ground. Nobody really in harms way.
But the U.S. government didn't do anything and that would all be well and good if it wasn't for people like Gutman making America sound like it always comes to the rescue. Most of the time when America "helps" out another country it's because there is something in it for America.
A naval destroyer, openly following a German Wolf Packs and openly transmitting their positions to German's war time enemy is not in harm's way?
If you want to read up a bit more on that (avoid the History Channel, they stopped being about history years ago), we can pick up this thread of the debate later.
Back to your point.

Your not helpful to anyone, not even the kids at the Kos, lets see in what way could a leftist America hating troll possibly help anyone?
Only thing I can think of is step in front of a fast moving frieght train, get a few of your lefty friends to join in, youtube it for extra points.
Glad I could be of help as well.
You're a genius. So much for civilized debate.
Hey there Joe, crank open the history book – we showed up in Europe with troops in 1942 for Operation Torch. Now since we didn't officially enter the war until December 1941, i think coming into the war and running an invasion a mere 6 months later is pretty skillful, not to mention fighting a 2 front war in the Atlantic and the Pacific (but things like the logistics of building/training and equipping an Army, a Navy, and an Air corp to do the job probably also eludes you, you probably think we crack open the big Box'o' Soldiers for all that and can deploy them the day after we declare war). And we hardly left England stranded, we were providing war material all along under lend/lease. Those minor details (major) obviously escaped your notice. We even left some some troops in Europe when we were done, they're in graveyards all over the continent.
Oh, and our Merchant Marine was dying all along, the Germans weren't particular about sinking supply ships to England (right, we left em on their own…yep yep yep)
Go get some history education and enjoy the pommes frites while you're at it.
But hey, I've clearly made you, a right wing blockhead angry so, made day is made.
And sorry to disappoint but I won't be jumping under any trains.
Amen. Bingo. Period.
Ok, I meant name calling is a trait common on this site and name calling was all T-Rav had going for him in his comment to me. Clear now?
I hope you're just providing this info for lurkers. This subpar "Joe" is just here to pull people's chains.
Ah, the "purity of intentions" argument.
Typical.
Now, now… don't let those pesky little facts like when the Taliban came about get in the way of the tranzi's rant… You'll hurt his feelings.
Oops, I know how hung up you are on grammar and therefore I'm guessing on spelling also. Make that "my day", not "made day".
Honestly I agree that we should have gotten the Shah out and am not sure we should have helped put him in to begin with. The mistake that the Carter administration made in this affair (the first one) was to not support the orderly withdrawal of the Shah to try to ensure that Iran was stabalized so that the transistion out would not have been so bloody.
Problem is that all I ever here from the other side trying to lambast as as a terrible government is "that was a mistake" so "we are a terrible country". I never here well this is what should have been done and this is how America should have made sure the issues which were the reasons we made the mistake to begin with could have been better resolved. It is in my view what makes their criticism nothing more than propaganda. Would Iran as a Soveit Saltellite been a better situation? We never seem to here that question addressed by the critics on the left.
Ok, thanks for that destroyer.
You are a dolt.
