Daily Gut: Rock Against Obama
by Greg GutfeldSo I came across a lot of people who thought Obama’s speech last week in Norway was pretty nifty. And by “a lot of people,” I mean my mom, and by “nifty” I mean “not stinky.”
To me, the speech was little different from whatever President Bush would have given – that is, a capable defense of American interests based on an acknowledgment of evil in the world.
Which raises the question: where are the protests against this new wartime President?
Viewer Chad Smith wrote in to remind me of the infamous Rock Against Bush campaign – started by some low level punk rockers. Its goal, presumably, was to create an antiwar movement with Bush as the primary target of relentless, brutal (warlike, even!) scorn.
But hey – it was called Rock Against Bush, not Rock against War. And that tells you something. Rock Against Bush wasn’t a campaign to force the President to rethink war, it was a campaign to use war to crap all over Bush, an ideological enemy. So, it wasn’t about pacifism, it was about politics. Which is why – after crapping on Bush – they remain mysteriously silent over Obama, now. I say “mysteriously” because I’m stupid.
Look – a drone still kills people, whether it’s commanded to do so by a Republican or a Democrat. So, it comes down to consistency. If you’re critical of war under Bush, you gotta be critical of war under of Obama. I’ve been critical of our President over a crapload of things, but I support him in this troop build-up, the same way I supported the surge under Bush. So one must wonder: if there was a Rock Against Bush, why not a Rock Against Obama?
I’m glad for our troops that these sellouts found something else to do.
And if you disagree with me, then you sir, are probably a racist.

Liberals are about driving this country into Euro-style socialistic subserviance, not about ending wars or "saving lives".
They have an ear, well two big Dumbo ears in the White House, and he shares their vision. No protests by the grimey, anti-war loons against O-kenyan, ever.
"Rock Against Barack" is scheduled for release right after "Folk Opposing Islamic Terrorism" which will be followed by "Broadway Sings Out Against the Democratic President's Anti-Gay Marriage Collected Ballads". I'm going to wait to buy the box set.
Marshall amps should sue the poster artist over that representation of Marshall products and stealing Marshall's "look".
I play, have owned Marshalls, I'm looking at a new half stack and I'm a conservative. Not all musicians kneel in the church of liberalism – praying to false Messiahs' like Gore and Obama.
Consistency is not in a liberals vocabulary… except when talking about their latte at the cafe.
Though I am a bit hesitant, I do support the surge of troops… However, what I don't support is all the "hemming and hawing" (as my mother and grandparents would say) about what to do…. It shows an inability to lead… It took him MONTHS to come to this decision… And in my opinion if he really cared about the mission or our troops fighting that mission he would have listened to the Generals and Advisers and made a decision one way or the other… He is the Commander in Chief and in a time of war (like we are in) he needs to make the critical decisions about our military much quicker than he did.
But you are right, people like those Punk Rockers (emphasis should be on punk) are just being political pawns, either on their own accord or through someone else… At least Cindy Sheehan is protesting the war still, even after change in Presidents.

She is no longer protesting the war as a whole. She is now protesting our use of drones. Yes, Cindy Sheehan wants to do away with drones so more of our boys get killed. What a strange land I am in.

Protest Warrior has a great sign/bumper sticker: "Say no to war, Unless a Democrat is President". The left won't do what the right will, which is back up the other side if they advance one of their principles. Look at what Bush did, Medicare prescription drugs, education bills (written by Ted "The Swimmer" Kennedy), AIDS spending in Africa, etc.? The lefty pukes still went after him. If Obama does the right things (no pun intended) and increases troops, stops with his intrusive advances into our personal lives, and doesn't tax and spend us into oblivion, he'll get much more harmony from us. I don't hate the guy, just his extreme left policies.
I'd be more than happy to offer my old punk band's music for a RAO recording. We had titles like Freak Show (which I think is a fitting description of the current administration) and War Is Bad which was a parody of the Reagan-bashing punks, though they never seemed to catch on, not even when I wore my American Flag T-Shirt with RBA emblazoned across it. Funny, no one ever asked me what RBA stood for. It stood for Red-Blooded American!
Bush never vetoed anything. He was the "Kick sand in my face and call me your friend" President. Obama's a tool and the left is using him like one. How else can you explain a guy with less political experience than my local dog catcher becoming president? Liberals have NO principles. Look at Lieberman, he sounded like a MoveOn kook when he was on the ticket with Algore. Before and after, he sounded more like McCain.

Can we add the "Save Darfur" tactic? The righteous, "Why are we in Iraq trading blood for oil when poor people in Darfur need help?" Darfur is still a mess, worse since foreign meddlers got Sudan Prez Bashir to be indicted by the Hague for "crimes against humanity," whereupon Bashir called their bluff and threw out all the foreign aid agencies in Darfur, including CARE, stranding hundreds of thousands of Darfurian Sudanese without emergency aid.
But…WHERE are the actors & actresses slinging bags of food aid? George Clooney? Ben Affleck? Helllooooo? Maybe it didn't work as a gimmick to get troops out of Iraq and into Darfur, so it's been dropped?
Also, need a camera to record the priceless expressions – no blood for oil in Iraq and troops for Darfur – the faces when they are asked, "Why are they fighting in Darfur?"

Yeah, where is all the righteous anger from the artistic community? Does anyone remember when Thom Yorke of Radiohead became enraged to learn that the Bush twins were in attendance at one of his concerts? Or when Morrissey publicly wished that George Bush would die? Or when Bono dodged a hug from Pres. Bush and then sat down to joke about it with then Sen. Obama? Does anyone remember when Green Day won the best record Grammy for "American Idiot" (btw how many Grammy awards do you think an anti-Obama album called "American Idiot" would win?)
Of course abusing George Bush was justified because he was a "warmonger". But now that Barack Obama is a "warmonger" where is the artistic community? Why aren't they complaining about our continued occupation of Iraq or the dramatic escalation of troops in Afghanistan? Why are they no longer talking about the evils of imperialism and the military-industrial complex? The truth of the matter is that the music industry is composed of hypocritical left -wing hacks who hated George Bush because he had an R after his name.
Liberals never get their own hypocrisy. If you asked these fools why is it OK that Obama is killing people when you didn't like Bush doing it the best answer you would get get after some squirming is well Obama is going to end in the war in 2011. Then bring up so it's OK for him to kill people for a year as long as he ends the war. This will probably generate one of two responses your a right wing war monger or the cry of racist.

Several years ago I dreamed up an album called Rage Against Rage Against the Machine. I wasn't very political then, I just saw them as phonies…I mean I had seen Zack De La Rocha drive his Ford Explorer to eat at Subway in South Pasadena (true story). And they were pompous to boot, a corporate record label act tearing up a flag and throwing it in Steve Forbes dressing room at SNL. So I told a friend and she told friends from local bands about the idea. One day she came back and said that several were excited to do the album. I didn't know who the bands were so I don't know if it was because they were conservative, left of Rage or just free thinkers. When my friend pressed me about the idea I said I was joking. To this day I regret not having made that album.

Agreed with all James, I too have a living room filled with a Marshall Stack, and I too crank out all kinds of rock and roll jams as a conservative that drive my Muslim neighbors nuts ….which I love and I'm getting ready to do in about 20 minutes.

Um, there are a lot of insane libs who are against the war. They got made that their boy Obama was putting more troops in.
But Obama is kind of un-American, as the right often notes, and he set a time table for withdrawing troops, so it's not like he's actually fighting the war, you know. A lot of libs are happy about the time table. And conservatives don't really like it. So, if they aren't as angry about the war, that would be one reason.
One last thing is, why do you want people to protest Obama for the war? Most conservatives support the war.
What Obama should be protested for is for destroying the economy.
I guess that's why they say today's liberal isn't really liberal. Probably the last true liberal who was president was JFK. After that it became flavor of the month for causes. Which explains why today's liberals are all over the board. They can't stand for anything, just everything – good or bad. They won't allow themselves to be locked into a position – that would destroy their intellectual nuance and ability to feel pain from everyside. Unless you're conservative or Republican, then they want you dead. So I guess that do stand for…Something.
For the past 8 years liberals screamed at Bush for being a war monger and murderer because by their logic he had sent the troops in and the blood was on his hands. Now Obama is sending in another 30,000 combat troops to do what kill people. Now the same people who screamed about Bush killing people are not going off on Obama like that did Bush, so apparently Obama killing people doesn't bother them. Yes most conservatives.support the war that's why conservatives came out in support of Obama's speech of the concept of Just War as unlike liberals who couldn't give Bush credit for anything because of their blind hatered of him.
In the end, the blood of our Soldiers -in as much as their deaths and injuries resulted from an emboldened enemy- is to be placed at the feet of the Democrats and their lap-dog Media. This is how History will remember it.

Really enjoy reading your posts Greg, especially since your show is on later than I can stay up. Totally agree with ALLAMERICAN about the supposed anti-war crowd in this country. Of course, while watching Hannity on Fox News tonight, Bob Beckel said that Obama has ended the war we should have not been in. I take it that he meant Iraq, although I don't think Al Qaeda or the other insurgents got the word.
I'll wait for the Eight Track version, that way I'll never have to listen to it.

The medicare perscription drug program is a joke… my grandparents are on it (I don't know if they have to be or what the deal is) and their prescription costs skyrocketed… it wouldn't surprise me one bit of that was the Democrats doing… :-/
The Government ought to draft all the liberals and send them all to the Middle East to fight to save their arses and find out what our opposition is really like. Will this really change their thinking? Probably not, but a lot less of them will come back to cause trouble. No, I am not advocating that we kill them. We will let someone else take care of that detail.

I wonder if we would have already been out of the middle east if we would just let our military do their jobs. Those poor kids can't even shoot until the enemy is shooting directly at them. Personally, I think we should pull all our land troops out and just bomb the whole area. When a six year old is holding a gun at you and you have to wait until he shoots first, it is demoralizing. Its no wonder that PTSD is such an issue.

He hemmed and hawed and delayed in making any hard decision so he could see which way the wind was blowing, or in this case which wind would bring the lesser ill. Obama is supremely unprepared and not equipped for this job in any way, shape or manner. Sounds like the setup for a movie. Of course, during the course of that movie you would have to come together, help each other out, discover your common humanity, team up to fight criminals and so on.

The answer to this is pretty obvious: Obama didn't start the war, but it does look like he's trying to end it. Why woud anyone protest against that, since it's what they wanted? I think almost everybody knows you can't just snap your fingers and pull out of a situation like this. If in three years we're still in the same place, then I'd expect to see some protests.
The question is. What is the mission of the surge in Afghanistan? Is it to capture Osama, contain the Taliban or money. Liberals are full of hypocrisy. During the Congressional elections of 2006, one of the main campaign issues was the Iraq war. The Democrats promised an end to the conflict. 4 years later we are still there and that campaign promise withered away. During the 2008 Presidential campaign, Obama also campaigned of ending the war and bringing troops home. Needless to say this isn't going to happen.
The difference between Bush and Obama is the media has packaged Obama as hip, cool and wonderful.
From the date of September 11, 2001 I have watched this Nation slowly die and this war has taken on a thought, a concept, that makes me feel unsafe. I asked the big what if and why, and this is it, " Why do the people of the United States Of America grow weaker because of a dollar and the Arabic Drug Empire grows stronger. Why was there a hands off policy, that will not allow the destruction of these poppy fields ?"
The people we are at war with seek the death of every last man, woman and child in the world in order so that their chosen few can re-populate the world. These people such as this looked for bio- war fare within the shipment of their drugs to full fill the laws of their god.This is so hard for my mind to understand that, why ? comes to me all the time.
