J-School Rappers Rhyme Against Fox News
by Greg GutfeldNormally I don’t like making fun of Columbia journalism students, because it’s like shooting fish in a barrel, if the barrel were full of Columbia journalism students.
And that would be very wrong.
But when I saw this video, I couldn’t resist. It’s of a panel, in which students are pointing out how predictable cover letters won’t help you get a job in the post j-school world. So what would? How about a rap?
And so it begins, as one student unleashes his inner Jay-Z, listing in all earnestness a lengthy promise of his many qualifications.
Roll tape, roll-tapers:
So, no surprise: the student raps benign pap that his professors and like-minded dorm-rats would applaud – from railing against complacency, to never losing touch with “his humanity.” But I’ll repeat the part the kid really wanted them to hear:
“There’s no need to hear crazy, or create a false sense of parity, like Fox News and Hannity.”
And that’s the big point: That when applying for a job, the student knows to regurgitate the shared assumptions of the elitists around him. In short, if you bash Fox News, you might land an unpaid internship at Mother Jones.
That still exists, right?
Now, it wasn’t a bad rhyme, but it was a bad idea – emboldened by the present comfort of conformity and driven by the need to prove to those hiring that the applicant holds the “right beliefs.” It’s silly and stupid, but also sad: these beliefs are cemented even before they enter a paying newsroom.
And what’s the crux of these beliefs?
That Fox News is evil.
Which to me, is pretty cool. I like being considered evil – especially when those doing the considering are sheep who can’t rap.
And if you disagree, then you’re probably racist.
Tonight we’ve got the lovely Juliet Huddy, the hilarious Brad Morris and Blood Manor’s sex and deadly, Rachel.

Nothing new here, liberals spewing the loser rap!
I guess these J-School rappers want to limit their future career oportunities.
Not much news here just more liberals that suck at something else. The only thing they excel at is defrauding the tax payer.
Well, they can always get a job in journalism with MTV. Both seem to enjoy nonsense and bad rap. Since news is no longer a component of "journalism," it's irrelevant that they are both ignorant and incapable of distinguishing hard news from silly flights of bad music. Sing it, drone it, or read it–it doesn't matter since it's all about feelings rather than facts.
with the news of the falling numbers on newspapers, and failing ratings on news nets (except fox) i think these j-school students need to be compared to the last of the buggy whip graduates from buggy whip school. or can they be compared to the fireman on a train, you know the guy who shoveled coal into the boiler, it only took the train companies 30 or 40 years to eliminate that job (due to union rules).
Please Mommy….make it stop.
Mother Jones internships are all paid.
I'm so embarrassed I have a journalism degree. It was a long time ago. I was young. Impressionable. Stupid…Goodness knows it's pretty useless these days.

I hope they post it to facebook, so future employers can see it when they're interviewing.
what's really sad is they think that making a little rap video on their apple will get them the job that a silly old resume wouldn't because it proves how 'cool' they are. ugh.. it really has come to this, hasn't it ? stop the world – i want to get off !
Catchy!
It'll be a big hit down at the unemployment office.
Spoiled Panty-waist Twits. In five years they'll be trying to assassinate America.
You guys must be right and millions of us are just ……wrong! You have a much better handle on "real" news. Acorn and Van Jones….and let's see…the other 10 czars that don't believe in a FREE MARKET ECONOMY….you know…..the stories that the "non crazy" news organizations DIDN'T cover……..irrelevant! And Fox is a racist bigoted organization to even bring it up!! Is there an independet thinker in the bunch? It really is pitiful……and the funny thing is that Fox News…….the organization that you're mocking…… is the only network actually making a profit……until that becomes illegal. But for now……. I hear the government is hiring! I'm sure you'll all give them the news they like. Hope and Change!
I miss seeing Glass and Blair on Faux News, they were like my favs.
"My parents cosigned a $180,000 student loan, and all I got was this lousy YouTube video"
So, the reporters who lied on their backs for the OB campain weren't even paid the Benjamins? So sad. (Sadder I watched that thing….Curse you, Gutfeld!)
The only jobs left for a J school grad is the J school itself.
I'd hire them tomorrow…I have a whole half acre full of weeds and star thistles that need to be pulled out by hand in my back field.
I’d even pay them minimum wage and give them all the well water they could drink.
Just trying to do my bit to help “spread the wealth around” folks.
Not Over.
Hello LawHawk, how are things in La La land?
Smells like Teen Spirit!
And also, mindless conformity.
The new rap demo will be more useful for future career advancement than that Columbia J-School degree they've just spent a couple hundred thousand on. My department staff is at about 50-percent of what it was last year at this time – and we're lucky. Hope they enjoy blogging for free on blogspot with all that humanistic journalistic intellectual foresight. How's that for parity. At least they can scrawl 'WILL RAP FOR FOOD" on the back of their diploma when they are on the street corner.
They're only doing what their master(Obamasky) told them to do. Poor, poor fools.
LawhawkSF,
They are shooting themselves in the foot with the liberal Networks as well by promising not to be Sleazy.
I mean seriously what MSM network is going to hire anyone who says that…………….
I dunno SQT
if you really did earn it a long time ago it seems to me you just might have learned something about Journalism…… Goodness knows with all the Propaganda Artists today we could actually use that talent…
It's so nice to see the next generation of Keith Olbermanns, Chris Matthews, and Charlie Gibsons emerging.
Yes you go J School grads……
Don't be sleazy. You know like that guy who forged the letter proving a candidate for President used his Daddies's money to get him out of Viet Nam service and into the National Guard. You won;t be sleazy like that…
Oh Wait ………………………………… That wasn't Tony Blair… Nevermind!
In a way, the good news is that the degree isn't essential to getting news out any more. Sites like this do more than most so-called news outlets. I hope we see a return to more objective journalism. It is possible to keep bias out of hard news stories, though I rarely see that anymore. I remember when I was in school that we were taught to use "high-impact" words like "murder" instead of "killed," and I clearly recall how we were taught to heighten the sensationalism– though we were taught to keep opinion out of it. Now, opinion seems to drive everything.
The internet has been such a game changer. Now ever blogger has the ability to spread the word and keep news industry honest– though goodness knows they still try to keep the smear machine going (just look at recent coverage of Rush's attempt to buy into the NFL). If people want the honest truth, they can get it. That, if anything, is what is going to save journalism.
Sad. Those kids has no jobs waiting for them after all newspaper close shop. Better keep practicing!
"you can't stop the signal"
Mr. Universe in the movie Serenity
And that’s the big point: That when applying for a job, the student knows to regurgitate the shared assumptions of the elitists around him.
Unlike Greg Gutfeld who goes his own way regurgitating the litany of right-wing talking points. Well done.
Internships at Newsweak for EVERYONE!!!!!!
Where's Ann Coulter and her diatribe against communications majors when the world desperately needs her?
Apparently you can't tell the difference between a "shared assumption", which is based upon nothing; and documented evidence of bias, dishonesty and group think caught on video tape.
Now, back under bridge, troll.
I miss "Firefly." **sniff**
StlDan: Same old weirdness. I still do a weekly SF Diary over at our place just to keep people reminded that wherever they live, I live somewhere weirder.
SQT, can you rap?
I'm trying to figure out how you can rap the news and promise not to be sleazy at the same time. LOL
I miss it too. The movie was OK but he had to wrap up a great story too suddenly.
Nobody in the media will be hiring you someday, journalism students, because the leftist mainstream media is dying. Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
Damn Sam…where have you been mister?
Missed you.
Need some pie?
Not Over.
Columbia isn't a real university since they push an agenda.
I have not been by for a while, think I drop in. commentarama.blogspot.com/
There are two problems here: ignorance and stupidity. And it's hard to know which one you're fighting, so I always assume the former … and sadly end up concluding the latter.
I just had a lengthy 'debate' with a friend who was rattling on and on about how Fox is so horrible and evil and 'not real news'. When I presented him with a list of things done by MSNBC and CNN (the doctored video of the black man carrying a gun at an Obama speech, which MSNBC claimed was of a 'white man' and proved 'racial overtones'; Anderson Cooper's on-air 'teabagging' thing; Matthews and Maddow repeating fake quotes falsely attributed to Rush Limbaugh; etc) he was surprised for a second, but then the old one-two step of liberalism fell into place. It was 'prove to me that this happened!', and after I proved it, out came all the excuses ("It was a mistake, Limbaugh IS racist so it doesn't matter if they made up ONE quote, those tea-baggers sure are crazy!").
The only thing that keeps me sane and happy is realizing that no matter how much they love themselves, they're the minority. And most of these j-school 'rap' kids will end up flipping my hamburger or washing my car.
Rest easy Iowahawk, this is the future.
I'm sure these kids are being socialized to be good little Obamabots, with a sense of purpose, borderline illiteracy and a ruthless ambition to take someone else's hard-earned daily bread.
Believe me, these kids are signing songs of praise now, but they'll be cursing Obama's name in the near future when they're in their 30s and still doing the evening shift at the campus Kinko's.

Last one,
CNN is looking for nominations for Hero of the Year in the CNN Heroes segment.
The obvious choice is, and I'll nominate………………Barack Obama.
Name three of the litany please. Provide links.
Journalism school students know that they have to agree with the left to get a job. Refer to to the book by Tammy Bruce, "The New Thoughtpolice". I was a media/communications student at NYU and got my degree. During my senior year we were all advised to begin seeking internships. It hit me like a ton of bricks that I was going to have to act like a sheep and mouth the left's lies. I resigned myself to finished my schooling and then joined the corps instead. In hindsight I guess I could have gotten an internship at Fox but then I wouldn't have become a Marine..
If Hannity was correct when he asserted "Journalism died in 2008" then these must be the zombie step children freshly risen from the grave. Just in time for Halloween too! What timing.
The quickest way to get on TV is to bash Fox News or conservatives. Bonus points if you claim to be objective.
StlDan: Looking forward to seeing you again.
1GooDDaDDy: Andrew and I have both been stuck with some complicated litigation on opposite coasts. And we are trying to keep up with our own blog as well. See StlDan's comment above. We both wish we had the time to be here more often, but we're really stretched thin.
I worked in the paper industry for 12 years, from 1990 to 2002. Our mill shutdown in St. Marys, Ga. in 2002. Over 2000 workers were laid off. I went back to college that year at Georgia State University majoring in Political Science. I can tell you first hand that this is the bullshit that you parents are paying tens of thousands of dollars for. Does any one watching this crap think that they will go into a personal directors office for an interview and rap their way into a job? I don't know what the interview process is at MSNBC or the White House, but I'm sure that our great leader will pat their little heads and tell them to keep out the good work. He may not have jobs for them yet- but he will use them at a later time. We all have to give to the great one. Then again these children are journalism students, they are already indoctrinated.
Education
College or University: Columbia
Degree: Useful Idiot
J-school,where all the braindead clones go.
My journalism degree got me three jobs after graduation – outdoor maintenance crew in the day; grocery shelf stocker in the evening; and PBS phone solicitor on weekends. After three months of that, I figured the military was an easier way to earn a living and enlisted. I can't say it was easier, but it was better and helped me cure my naive J-school perspective on life. Most of us have to figure it out sooner or later.
They certainly haven't helped their music careers any.
No doubt about that!!
What is so great about this video is this – when none of these little Obamanites can find a job. They will have to live at home where mommie and daddie will tell them ever day how great they are. Mommie and Daddie will polish their little turd, until the Great One decides that we are all in this together. He will talk about hope, change and sacrafice. Mom and Dad and little turd will not be able to substain their lifestyle as family. I cannot wait UNTIL THE RATS HAVE TO LIVE TOGETHER IN THE OUTHOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The message is clueless (if they really want to follow those lovely ideals, they're going to have to go to FOX, cause the rest of the newsmedia has sold out completely.
The sad thing is though — this rap was actually more entertaining than the reasonably slickly produced one posted by PJTV. Sorry Zo — I like you a lot, but these kids performed better. Go teach them the real world.
The closest thing to your nose is your upper lip.
I heard a rumor of a Serenity II. I'd see it even if it was crap.
Journalism school is about stylizing the product.. You can't teach talent or ethics.
My eyes are closed. My ears are closed. I am grading these students. A+A+A+A+A+A+ !!!!!!! Now go find a fucking JOB!!!
I see you watch CNN, which had to issue a statement that the letters were all faked since it was discovered the typewriters of those days were incapable of making the types of characters found in the supposed Bush "letters" . When that came out then "everybody" in the liberal news were making retractions. Sad to think you still believe the PROVEN lies of the libs.
Geez, and how much is tuition at Columbia's J-School?
Now, now, Bob. You know poor Subby can't count that high.
Pathetic Little A**holes, and after all that so called, good education. But you can't blame them, it's their Liberal Professors that they have had to please for the past number of years. If Fox was wrong than why did Van Jones go, what happened to Acorn, was not the Reverend Wright story true (who you say). I could go on all day but you rapping kiddies won't hear me, you have your heads up your asses, and are still so enamored by the "Hope & Change" master.
Just in this one?
Fox isn't treated fairly.
Fox is journalism.
The left are elitists.
Strangely enough, the left are also conformists.
Also it's playing the race card when Fox sucks.
This is from the same nitwit who wrote "And so in 1983, I realized that a true rebel blends in, embraces discipline, hard work, and clean pants." Apparently these kids are not to blend in because blending in is bad except when Gutfeld does it.
Wow …… Not.
I guess this goes to show you how reading is fundamental except for future rappers
Mizzou J School taught me to keep my opinions to myself when reporting. But that was a long time ago . . .
I think the concept of objective journalism is one that has come and gone. As you stated, the internet has let the cat out of the bag and we have all learned that our "objective" media for the last 100 years was anything but.
Today, I think asking for objective journalism is like asking for an objective district attorney to decide who is guilty and who is innocent. I am much happier with the current state of journalism where everyone from all sides gets to throw in their input and the "truth" is decided by the reader.
Oddly enough, that must be why I enjoy Fox News. They seem to have a much easier time finding opposing points of view than the other news outlets.
Someone should encourage them to do it, if they haven't already. Wouldn't want to lose these gems!
Molting, as it were.
Nice to know the trolls are still online. I guess their mommies haven't thrown them out of the cellar yet; the Messiah's economy hasn't got to the hippies, or they're too stoned to notice, and there are still sodas and weenies in the fridge.
Nothing to see here, people, move along!
Nice rap, guys. Now go home and get your shineboxes.
Add Journalism to the list of maors to cring at when your kid smiles and declares her major.
Rap is not music just as Ebonics is not a language. It is noise pollution – mostly immoral rants against civilized society by a drug and crime infested ghetto sub-culture.
Music, as all art, should depict things as they could be and ought to be, celebrating and uplifting the human spirit. From a technical standpoint, it is widely accepted that music is based on a musical scale, and consists of melody, harmony, and rhythm. Rap does not contain melody or harmony, just rhymes performed to a “beat”.
Rap is, however, appropriate for these brainwashed children. It illustrates perfectly their lack of a moral compass and philosophical foundation – just empty minds ready to be filled with left wing garbage.
Someone has obviously never watched Red Eye, but hey, don't let not knowing about something stop you from insulting…you guys never do.
Isn't this the University whose students were throwing themselves off of dorm building roofs because of the meds they were consuming like candy? Definitely not the best or the brightest. Ideas and ideals are two different things, little "journies"…
Strictly speaking, it was a bad rhyme.
It appears that even Columbia J-School has cannot breed out of them use of "like" and "basically" in everyday speech. Is that kid the student body president, or possibly from Reseda? The alleged "journalism" these days bears a striking similarity to so many stand up comedians I hear who get cheap laughs with gratuitous, snide remarks about the backwardness of their fellow citizens south of the Mason-Dixon line.
So unoriginal. One hopes that when these kids begin to see how sadly the MSM is run these days, they will do their best to get this Youtube video taken down so prospective employers will not be able to identify them.
Thus endeth our world, not with a bang, but with "like," "ya know," "I mean," "basically," and a long, cool drink of the state-run media's Kool-Aid and with the stamp of approval from the White House. Co-opted, they are and the funny/pathetic thing is they haven't a clue that they are.
His columns are right here, and he complains about all the things you'd expect him to complain about because he isn't funny or original. He's a conformist, blending in.
"And if you disagree, then you’re probably racist."…..
I lulzed…
Are you sure these were J-School grads and not Communications Degree candidates?
it's funny they bag on fox news, since it's probably the one news outlet with enough viewership to bring on new hires.
Ooh! You evil, scary FOX-man. You're so evil and SCARY! Stop scaring the sheeples.
I'll have to disagree. Parity and Hannity is an atrocious rhyme as would be J-school parity with juvenile vanity.
"The purpose of the Government is to empower the Individual to not need the Government"
But wouldn't that "purpose" keep the gov't perpetually "needed"?
Individuals can and should empower themselves, don't you think?
Who the heck is plunking down the bucks to go to J-school these days, anyway? It seems a bit like learning horse cavalry tactics in 1938: the skills you learn are still useful, but not for long.
And another question: I wonder what the return on investment is for a journalism degree. Hey, but these bozos are not doing it for the money, right? They're doing for "humanity". Right.
Fox News is the #1-rated cable news program and has the most number of viewers. Consistently beats CNN, MSNBC, et al. Somehow, to you, and Obama, and the rest of the far left loons, that's because "it sucks". It succeeds because "it sucks". This only makes sense to people completely de-coupled from reality like you.
The rest of the list is spot on.
I want to see these "talking points" they keep talking about.
YOU'RE the conformist. You also spout a lot of nonsense. Do you ever stop to THINK about what you're saying?
If no one thought Gutfield was entertaining, funny or original, they wouldn't be reading his columns or watching RedEye.
By the way, which column do you write?
I've completely lost patience with the liberals I try to argue with because of this behavior. It's much more comfortable for them to stay in their bigoted little worlds than confront the fact that they are being led by the nose into the very ignorant, elitist and conformist behavior that they accuse everyone else of.
Unless they grow up and learn some responsibility and reasoning skills, and gain the ability to change their opinions when the facts warrant doing so, they'll still be blaming Bush for their late welfare checks.
And I'll nominate…. Barack HUSSEIN Obama!
Rap and hip-hop take some skill. To be inventive when putting rhymes together and sync it up to a complex beat is not something anyone can do and do well. As with other art forms, there's the high art and the low, but make no mistake- rap and hip-hop are musical forms and very successful at gaining audiences and participants everywhere.
I particularly like how it's accessible to almost anyone. You don't need to know how to play an instrument. You don't need a fine voice. You need a sense of rhythym, and a strong vocabulary will help. You can rap about anything.
Don't throw out the art form with the gang-banger culture!
Even I can do better than crummy Columbia J-school students:
News sheep, news sheep, have you any wool?
Spin it into something you can pull
down over my eyes til I turn to the left
and I take what you weave me, warp and weft.
News sheep, news sheep, who ya gonna blame
when another news network gets acclaim
for breaking news stories you ignore
like the one about an ACORN, a pimp an' a whore.
News sheep, news sheep, gets pats on the head
from Administration people it should be grilling instead
News sheep marches to the government's tune
News sheep is gonna be lamb chops soon.
I've seen better (w)rappers in a pack of gum.
obviously, it sucks to be you
did you check with obozo for the updated LIBERAL VITRIOL AND HATE?
Newspeak. There, fixed it for ya!
Dont blame the students. It's adults who've taught them this is an A+. We've got elementary-school-quality"facilitators" (don't call them "teachers") in control of pre- K-college. Do ya'll know how much COLORING stduents are expected to do in MATH, HISTORY,ECONOMICS, SCIENCE, ENGLISH these days? Everything's an art project. And we're not exaggerating. Classroom facilitators who don't know "hard" subjects like math fill up students' time with skits, group presentations and posters. This is a logical extension of over twelve years schooling in a system of "facilitated" mush. Coloring, rapping and wearing costumes to illustrate a concept – teaching everyone how to be a poseur – with only Liberal Left concepts approved for a good grade. Proof: these students are paying HOW MUCH at Columbia for four years of airhead posing? They haven't been introduced to the concept of cost/benefit ratios and how it relates to Columbia J-School 4-year degree, college loans to repay and expected income stream upon graduating.
Fox News is the #1-rated cable news program and has the most number of viewers. Consistently beats CNN, MSNBC, et al. Somehow, to you, and Obama, and the rest of the far left loons, that's because "it sucks".
You'd ordinarily think that people wouldn't use the "it's popular TV so it must be great" argument, but then this is the anti-culture site. Enjoy your Charlie's Angels box set.
By the way, which column do you write?
I'll tell you which one I don't write: I don't write the one about how conforming is good right after I write the one about how conforming is bad.
Bill, you're an old white man, right? Don't look now, but I think there might be some kids on your lawn.
That's correct. And you are a young, black punk with his pants down around his ankles? You people need to realize that when you succeed in destroying the Golden Goose of America and what makes this country great, you will have no one to sustain you on the dole. Clean up your act and your culture and get a job.

So this is what grade school kids who are taught to sing praise songs to Obama grow up to be in college… Scary…
Yes but it won't be the same without the Pilot and the Prophet.
Actually wasn't that Dan Rather at CBS news……
And the document was not made on any typewriter. They were made with MS Word fonts which is how they were caught.
Government in whatever form it takes is the arbiter of laws. If it makes laws which allow individuals to keep their own money, to keep their own private property then thoswe laws will allow an individual to empower themselves.
If it takes money, if it restricts the use of one's own labour, if it creates laws that unfiarly burden the individual taking away their rights then it does the opposite. Thus the purpose of government is to ensure the individual has no need of it. For when an individual is forced to go to court or a bureaucrat then the question of personal liberty is always at stake. Ironically enough society seems to prosper in those times when the government manages to do just that.
However, You are absolutely right it is People that Empower themselves to Succeed.
Ever notice that no matter what vantage point you choose to view one of those Obama posters the eyes seem to be looking directly at you… hmmmm!!
