Daily Gut: Wolf’s Confusion, Fred’s Misery
by Greg GutfeldIt amounted to breaking news for CNN`s Wolf Blitzer: Saturday Night Live doing a skit, in which they skewer Barack Obama. It was a concept so profoundly distasteful, that it left Wolf incredulous – worse than when he was humiliated on Jeopardy.
At any rate, this first ever comprehensive fact-check of an SNL skit might be the strangest piece of media analysis I’ve ever seen.
Check it out, check-it-outers. (ROLL TAPE)
–
Now, wouldn`t you know, according to CNN`s analysis, the skit “missed the mark.” This is a not a fair portrayal, they whine – which is not surprising, coming from a network blinded by the President`s pocket lint. But forgive me for being both flabbered and gasted, but have you ever seen a news network review a comedy sketch for fairness? Did CNN ever do this when SNL went after Bush, Palin, or any other Republican?
But look, I don`t expect that. Reviewing an SNL skit for accuracy is like reviewing McDonalds for their wine list. So what`s the explanation? My guess is this segment was manufactured immediately after being asked for by someone living in a big house with a huge ego and now, bruised feelings.
It reminds me of a pal receiving shabby service at a restaurant, then imploring friends to write withering reviews on the joint`s website (okay, that was me).
But the funniest part in all this? That CNN missed the big story, completely overlooking Fred Armison`s skit sabatoge. In the history of television, I don`t think you could find another actor more offended by his own job, which was playing Obama negatively. You could find more sincerity from a hostage reading a ransom note complimenting his captors. Seriously, I half-expected him to blink in Morse code, pleading for help.
In the end, it makes me wonder if CNN’s analysis of SNL was a skit in itself -a brilliant Onion evisceration designed to poke fun of a network so in the tank for Obama that a skit on the Messiah short circuits their powers of reason. But if CNN has truly decided this is a worthy exercise – why stop with skits? I saw a recent “Animals Gone Wild” video where it was clear a cocky matador was way too harsh on a bull.
And if you disagree with me, then you’re probably a racist.

Have they (CNN) no Shame? I guess not.
I'd have thought after the Jeopardy fiasco Wolf would have watched himself a little closer. But then again you can't expect much from idiots.

ok the skit which was moderately humorous, in spite of Armitage's terrible acting, but CNN had me laughing myself silly.

Gut, if your insights were dark chocolate candies, I'd be full of flavinoids and my @ss would be 60 inches round.
Did CNN fact check Tina Fey when she babbled "I can see Russia from my house!"
This kind of thing would cost them ratings, if anyone were watching.

Great question! EXACTLY WHO told CNN to do this idiot fact-check?
Nope none at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they praise Tina Fey for her spoof of Palin?
Watching this CNN report and I can honestly say I don't believe my fucking eyes (please excuse the colorful language)!!
And the so-called "non-partisan" fact checker is perhaps the biggest idiot of all. Did he suggest that things in Afghanistan have NOT gotten worse since Obama took office?!?!

somebody needs to tell SNL to do a skit next week.. get this..
snl doing a skit about cnn doing a fact check of snl …hahahahahahahahaha… lol
priceless…………
I was under the impression that Armison just can't do the … impression. Not that he specifically had issue with the content, although that's a plausible explanation.
He looks a little like Obama when he has makeup on, but not enough … and he doesn't do any of the mannerisms. It's probably the worst impression I've seen on the show.
SNL really needs somebody who can do Obama properly. I mean, it's not rocet science, they guy has characteristic tics up the ying-yang. Fred's just a doofus.
Jon Klein, the President of CNN, ordered Lou Dobbs to REPORT A FALSE NEWS STORY in the attempt to squash the birther issue.
CNN is no longer a credible news source, Mr. Klein, a heavy Obama supporter has subverted CNN News into a political vehicle for Barrack Obama.
http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pag...
I agree… Crap, I even saw a Politifact article on it… I just looked at it thinking "Really?"

notice how the reporter says the skits of Palin were "dead on"? what a joke CNN has become, not to mention Blitzer
Whoa… I am more amazed you got through the filter….
Nope… and idiots STILL believe Sarah Palin said that… :/
After this precedent setting "fact checking" I will be expecting CNN to fact check all skits about politicians in the future.
These people are so lame! CNN is lame. SNL is lame. This is more lame than anything that has ever been lame before.
Gutfeld, however, is a prince among men.

You'd think by now they'd be air 30 minutes paid commercials. At least they wouldn't be losing as much money as they are with these people.
I liked Carveys version of Bush Sr. and Darrell Hammond as Clinton….
Though the SNL skit of the Obama and McCain debate with Tom Brokaw as mediator was pretty hilarious as well..
But lately SNL has been missing their mark…
that was beautifully said.
I've got their fact checker right here. He's laying at my feet licking part of his anatomy the vet is going to "take care of" in a couple of weeks, now that he's old enough.

Even SNL should be able to get a few laughs out of that, which would be the first ones since 1992.
No doubt, on purpose. He needs to get fired from that character before he gets knocked off the NYC cock tail circuit.
This just in, CNN fact-checks have also proven that sharks don't leave the water and walk around knocking on people's doors, John Belushi never actually won the decathalon thanks to little chocolate doughnuts, that Coneheads aren't from France, that Fred Garvin is no longer a male prostitute, that Gumby didn't actually smoke cigars, that Chris Farley never actually competed with Patrick Swayze for a spot at Chippendales, that Wayne and Garth are not from Aurora, IL, that the Church Lady is actually a male in a dress and the he is in fact Chevy Chase and I'm not!
What baffoons you people are. No wonder your idiotic network is becoming a footnote.
CNN does not engage in liberal Democrat propoganda, it is a legitimate news channel engaged in ethical journali . .(DAMN, I ALMOST MADE IT TO THE END OF THAT SENTENCE WITHOUT LAUGHING OUT LOUD AND CHOKING!)
That was hilarious! Not the SNL skit but the CNN report of it. Notice how she said the "dead on impression of Sarah Palin” but the Obama impression "missed the mark". Uh, ya, o.k. I seem to remember Palin actually playing a flute at the debates.
Remember that it was Tina Fey during an impression of Palin where she said "I can see Russia from my house". That went on to become an actual quote by Palin according to the MSM. This is the difference in standards for liberals and conservatives these days. Conservatives are quoted for the things their opponents say while impersonating them in comedy sketches. But, liberals must be portrayed accurately while being impersonated in comedy sketches. WOW, if that's not a double standard I don't know what is? I would love to hear from some liberals about this great injustice of Obama being falsly represented in a comedy sketch, please indulge me.
We live in a time where comedians are more accurate than the MSM news, and the tabloids have better investigative reporters..(thinking of the John Edwards story)
Maybe CNN can do a fact check on their ratings?
WOLFE: "I'll take Fact Check for $200 Alex"
They even made sure to get some of that "excellent satire" of that in this piece as well.
CNN correspondent: "It likely won't resonate as much as THIS… – Roll Palin footage.
I don't know how I can still be surprised, but everyday brings new wonders.
Darrell Hammond's Al Gore during the 2000 campaign was tremendous. "Lock Box" !
Who watches CNN?
I have to give Dolomite a +1 just for that extraordinary feat. His comment was good, too, but this, this is inspiring!
It won't happen, I'm guessing they've received the message loud and clear. Keep your hands off our Messiah.
CNN has become the Pravda of America.
CNN should be investigated. Not for carrying water for the Obama administration, but for making its employees watch SNL.
Good thing Internet bloggers and Fox news are around to "Fact Check" CNN
That was a good catch. I noticed the wording of that too. I guess the meaning those lemmings that watch this sorry excuse of a "news" station are to go away with is that Sarah P. is exactly like the portrail. No fact checking necessary.
Thank God, CNN is now fact checking comedy routines about our Dear Leader!

I saw a replay on Greta's show (I think) and thought the idea was great but Arminson's acting was horrible. He's been doing Obama for over a year and this was his worst performance. Was he mailing it in because he wasn't thrilled with the material? Was he embarrassed to point out Obama's struggles?

Now that is funny. Bravo!
They need to bring back Tim Meadows to do Obama. I still crack up thinking about his portrayal of OJ Simpson in the trial skits they did way back when.
BizCzar, you must forward that to CNN.
SNL finally decides how to make fun of Obama: mildly, from the Left, and with so much half-hearted, tentative self loathing that there will be no danger of actual laughs.
CNN? you mean Comedy News Network?
Aykroyd's Nixon is "carp"- like a fish? Hmmmm never thought of it THAT way…
Poor, SNL! It would have been better for them had McCain and Palin gotten elected. Then they would have had a good impersonation of at least have the ticket.

Ok this is to the reply back from me to EDS and his comment as follows, "Whether that's the case, the quote was SATIRE…don't you humorless neo-cons GET THAT already ???" since I am not seeing it right now:
I don't know which is more funny… the fact that Liberals still qoute "I can see Russia from my house!" as truth or that you don't know what a neo-con is and are confusing conservatives and Republicans (which is a party not an ideologue) with them..
As a matter of fact, I laughed so very hard at that sketch… it was hilarious… however, it amazes me the sheep mentality of people that don't do their own research on people to the point that they believe that something said in a satrical sketch was a direct quote…
Let us understand-they fact-checked a comedy skit? That's real hard-hitting news. CNN would be better off financially and professionally airing infomericals than this junk. They should also get the suspenders off that cadaver at 9PM before it's shoulders snap. A test pattern woudl draw a bigger audience.
They won't… because they don't like the answer…
Glenn Beck summed it up nicely last night – this skit was not meant to poke fun at Comrade Obama, it was meant as a warning from the Left!
Comrade title was added by me, not Beck.
Yeah, where was the fact check on her. Can she really see Russia from her house?
1) Wolf Blitzer is still on the air?
2) Thank God, CNN is finally standing up to the continuing pro-GOP, pro-Bush content on SNL.
3) What is the psychiatric term for people who scramable to protect the ego of someone else? Naxrcissism by proxy? Complusive Butt-kissing Disorder? Liberalism?
My sentiments exactly, Buckwheat. Well said.
Hear, hear!
Agree.
LOL!
What is a CNN?
but you're @ss is 60 inches (in circumference I assume you meant to say) so what's the big deal?

either him or Buffy the NEA slayer.
It is a dull impersonation, but then again, Obama is a dull President.
SonjaP
At the end of the day…………………………………….neither one of those skits was remotely funny.
Its best to avoid CNN, and SNL if you want to be humored.
Just watch RedEye……………………………………..now THATS, hilarious.
I think it would be hilarious if SNL did a skit of Wolf Blitzer on Celebrity Jeopardy.
Theres alot of funny material to work with there.
"I'll take CNN news reporter disasters for a hundred thousand dollars Alex!"
Ah yes the Comedy Numbnuts Network whines about the Stupid Nutjob Loosers. How appropriate. I can't stop laughing.
I caught myself thinking just as Greg did, what happened to Armison's impression of Obama in this skit? When he was imitating BHO in a positive light, his whole demeanor, and speech pattern was closely aligned to an actual, I dunno, impression. Notta in this skit. As for the fact-checking, I knew journalism officially died in 2008, so I am not the slightest bit surprised.
Barack Hussein Obama mmm mmm mmm
"You're @ss" would read you are @ss without the use of the conjunction. I know it's a grammar Nazi thing to point out. But I figured you were going for a insult in your post, so why not point out your mutilation of English language?

"SNL is an important factor in how many American people get their politics." OMG WAHAHAHAHWAAAAA
I don't think I've ever seen anyone fact-checking a comedy piece. JEEESUS that is disgusting.
I like how they said the Fey portrayal of Palin was "dead on". Pure comedy gold, this CNN has become…
No, actually who they need is Phil LaMarr (used to be on Mad TV — the guy that played the hyper UPS-like guy). First time I ever saw Obama I thought he was a total ringer for LaMarr. And funnier. (Of course, not on purpose.)
And don't forget, better ratings than almost everything on CNN!
SNL has missed their mark since the 1990's. Now there is no more funny on the show, just sad comedians hoping to score a gig on something other than that show. Lorne Michaels must cry himself to sleep every night.
I like the cut of your jib SQT.
Wolfs parents.
Crappy News Network is acceptable. I will also accept
Communist News Network
Crescent News Network
Contains No News
Oh I like that idea!!!
That was funny! Great article Gutfeld!
clearly SNL needs their own Andy Levy to fact check themselves mid-show so similar screw-up can be avoided in the future.
SNL needs to find a better actor to play the Great Pretender in Chief. He didn't have his grandiose speach style down and I didn't see the (I look like I am watching a tennis match) head movements characteristic of the Big O.
Well Sarah did say that because Alaska was close to Russia she had some kind of foreign policy knowledge of the country. It sounded pretty foolish so SNL satirized it with the I can see Russia from my house line. It didn't sound much dumber than her explanation. Maybe you guys all missed the interview with Katie Couric.
Great Idea! They need to do a parody of Wolfy's Room where he is the offical Obama fact checker ….
*Chuckles* He'd have to be in a lab coat to add an air of "seriousness" and "truth" to the affair.
Yeah the YouTube actors are doing a better job of playing Obama.
Yeah has Red Eye jumped on this yet?
Wolf, you ignorant slut!
Is there a single word for uber-hypocrisy?
Had you not explained that it was an actual "news" segment in his program, I could easily have thought Wolf's piece was another SNL skit.
Is this the news industry equivalent of jumping the shark?
I love that.
"Seems NO politician is safe from Saturday Night Live."
YES! That's supposed to be the friggin idea! Everyone is supposed to be fair game, not just the republicans!
Lol! Thanks.
True, but in this case I think that's a bit irrelevant. The issue here isn't so much that the impression was done poorly in regard to style but that it was done at all, with a decidedly negative slant, for which SNL is now taking heat. Although I'm not much given to conspiracy theories and such, the utter ridiculousness of this so-called "fact check" has me thinking that the White House really got scared over this one, and that there was some conversation with someone at CNN. The moral and increasingly political weakness of this administration has become so obvious that shows like SNL are now refusing to keep up the charade, and when they start taking shots at Obama, his house of cards gets a whole lot shakier, and that's what scared them. I'm not saying the White House ordered CNN to run this piece but I do think someone made their displeasure known to the network, which no doubt was only too happy to help keep the facade up.
Some amusing editing here, drawing on Blitzer’s Jeopardy appearance: After Wolf Blitzer Fact-Checks SNL Obama Skit, Alex Trebek Fact-Checks Blitzer http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/10/after-wolf-bl...
i look forward to your posts and I always chuckle when I read the last line. Thank you. :0
What is so odd is that they argue that the portrayal of Palin was good for America, while the portrayal of Obama was harmful. Why on earth did they bring that little bit in? It totally discounts their already unjustifiable argument!
Didn't you hear. The Situation Room id the new SNL. That James Carville doe s a great impression of that @ss James Carville.
I'm not sure SNL wants to put the effort into it. Besides, Fred plays Obamski like I see him… someone who's completely over his head and spends more energy trying to laugh it off.
They had to give Wolf money so he could participate in final Jeopardy. It just shows that he has no shame in accepting money for any reason.
God, CNN is wimpy. As Gutfeld would say, they're a bunch of Wimpy McWimpfaces.
You're wrong. They didn't do that.
Oh no, now I'm doubting if Farley, Lived down by the river.
Maybe Weird Al can do another remake and call it, "I Lost Integrity."
Has anybody else noticed that not one troll has commented on this story? I guess we finally found something that even Obamatrons can't defend.
Just my two cents.. who watches SNL anymore? No one that I know… They were terrible for years now right around the time they brought on Tina Fey. That mousy liberal makes me sick. The liberalism in comedy is like salt in my coffee. You try to ignore the liberal flavor in order to try to just enjoy the humor, but after a few quick sips you give up on it because the flavor is ruined. That is to say, the humor is ruined.
They're all so smarmy thinking they are funny but the heyday of SNL is long gone. It is amazing to watch CNN then fact check these comedians. When is the last time they fact checked Obama and made a point of saying "There are serious contradictions here!" It's funny when you think about it. CNN's hardball journalism reaches new heights when they consult a fact-checking organization. That's only because EVERYONE knows their own journalists are not unbiased enough to do it themselves! LOL!!
That's hilarious and a brilliant idea.
SNL's Weekend Update should bring in some acne laden teenager's with a lap top to fact check the CNN fact checkers.
Fact checking is a basic task for any journalist for every story they report on. CNN is one of the biggest news agencies and they have plenty of staff, writers, cameramen — but no journalists. CNN had to CITE a fact checking agency because, as you said, they have zero credibility. And zero fact checkers. Everyone knows the establishment news media, including CNN, was responsible for getting Obama elected. Everyone knows CNN, MSNBC, and the rest, will not criticize him. That is why when the President gets made fun of on broadcast TV, CNN goes into a tizzy and seeks a credible voice to help them denounce the skit!
Again: I'm not a racist, I'm worse than Hitler–but then he was a racist so there ya go! This is absurd! In the whole history of the world the only thing more absurd was the creation of the duck billed platypus and even that bit of natural strangeness has a purpose (although I am unsure of the purpose at this point…). This analysis of the SNL skit has zippo purpose. I have to ask this, CNN and all libs who monitor this blog: You are wasting time on an analysis of a spoof. Isn't there something else to analyze and report on? Hmmmm? When Bush was in office we had this wonderful daily countdown of all of the soldiers killed in Iraq under his watch. The past 6 months have been really deadly in Afghanistan (remember, the "good war"). Where's the running tally? …crickets…..Thought so. Do the words "obsolete" and "dinosaur" conjure any visions for you?

Leno used to have a guy that did a spot-on impression of Obama. This was back during the campaign; I don't know if he's still using him.
They did a Jeopardy skit with Obama, Bush, and Fred Willard as Lincoln. It was funny in parts.

"They should also get the suspenders off that cadaver at 9PM before it's shoulders snap."
That made me laugh out loud. A little grammar nazi business, though: the possessive form is "its".
Who needs to poison reporters when you have CNN et al. No need to take over the media like Chavez when you sycophantic dull witted anchors like Wolf Blitzer. The CNN piece was a comedy skit all unto itself. The problem is the joke is on them. What exactly is wrong with Wolf Blitzer? Has there ever been a someone with cooler name but acts like he has swallowed a bottle of Paxil or does he have a lobotomy or is someone threatening to blow him up if he shows any emotion. Come on Wolf cheer up. By the way this segment was broadcast to millions of people from airports to hotels and the only ones who were unfortunate to be forced to watch were the last of the remaining Gitmo detainees.
To quote the CNN hack, it was a "dead-on impersonation". I guess CNN was too busy to fact-check it.
They fact checked this latest skit for the very reason that the Palin skit DID get accepted as a real quote. They're trying desperately to make sure that nothing like that ever happens to their messiah. Remember folks, we live in an era when John Stewart recently topped polls as the most reliable newscaster…
and where the hell was the teleprompter? if i were king, every comedic representation of him would have the head mounted version…
It seemed like Armisen's impression this time wasn't the same as it was last fall when Armisen's Obama made Obama seem like a cross between Superfly and Miles Davis, as if the Big O was the coolest thing this side of the surface of Neptune. Some of Armisen's main impression ticks were in this sketch, and the sketch itself was just plain funny. Certainly it wasn't bust-a-gut guffaw loudly funny, but it was definitely funny. It's hard to imagine someone being so blinded as to take a dive professionally like this, if this is the case.
"A test pattern woudl draw a bigger audience."
Bloody hell, that was pure Vaudeville-grade hilirarity, my friend!
Genuine, Borscht-Belt, Rodney Dangerfield, Henny Youngman-esque perfection.
Mel Brooks would be proud.
Really, I just can't stop laughing at this.
C'mon Man! Where's the trolls? I would love to see them try to justify this awesome piece of journalism. Now that would be good for a real belly slapper.
"It seemed like Armisen's impression this time wasn't the same as it was last fall when Armisen's Obama made Obama seem like a cross between Superfly and Miles Davis, as if the Big O was the coolest thing this side of the surface of Neptune"
I remember that. Apparently the extent of SNL's Obama-lampooning up to this point was that he's too good for his own good. Way to speak truth to power, you creaking hippy anachronism!
"Do they forget the skits with George Bush?"
What about skits with Neil Diamond? I seem to recall someone saying Neil kills the homeless for sexual release. That is slander! Neil kills homeless people for the heck of it, and that has always been his position.
I'd love to see CNN's REAL numbers (of viewers) — I mean the people who have a choice who in the privacy of their homes turn the channel to CNN. I bet it's half what is reported. Any Post Office, Airport, Hotel, sports bar one visits has the news tuned to CNN. Are those venues counted in the demographics? If so, CNN's viewership is probably down in the basement with MSNBC's.
I can't disagree!
I blush! My cynicism has been on overdrive. It's not the CHANGE some pols had HOPEd for.
Oh no, now I'm doubting if Farley, Lived down by the river.
Rudy Guiliani put it perfectly when asked by Lorne Michaels if they could start being funny after 9/11.
Rudy said, "Why start now?"

Since it was the interview with Gibson and not Couric….
Border States *do* have interaction with their neighbors and Sarah Palin *was* the CiC of a military that most certainly flew routine flights to wiggle wings at their Russian counterparts.
Psychologically, proximity makes a difference as well because Russia is not some far-away abstract construct but a close next-door neighbor. Knowledge of where Russia fits in to oil production doesn't require proximity, but Palin showed good knowledge of Russian production, pipelines, and related political concerns.
Wolf, you ignorant s***!
Check the 70's SNL skits featuring Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin as news readers for the provenance of that phrase.
I tried two times already to post this phrase but BH's moderators seem to think is it unacceptable. Perpahs the asterisks will be acceptable.
