Daily Gut: An Olympic Fail
by Greg GutfeldSo while chuckleheads like Jesse Jackson and Senator Roland Burris hilariously blame George Bush for Chicago losing the 2016 Olympics, whiny columnists like Mike Lupica are up in arms that conservatives might be gloating over President Obama’s big screw-up. Apparently laughing at all this is somehow anti-American, because Obama is our President, and he was doing this for all of us.

You know… kind of like when Bush was trying win a war in Iraq – and all those left wingers stood behind him.
And that’s my first point: The right has every right to gloat over Obama’s humiliation, because, thankfully, NO ONE DIED. Unlike, say during the Iraq war, where, whenever there was a roadside bombing, the progressives did their own special victory dance – using the consequences of war to gloat over an embattled president and an unpopular country. I didn’t hear much of the smarmy press calling them out.
So, if I take pleasure in watching Obama’s big fail, it’s only because it proved a point I made before he was elected: that being likeable, in and of itself, does nothing for America. To protect our nation and further our interests, our leader must reject the need to be loved by the world, and embrace being feared, even hated. I know that’s hard for our guy. Being a self-proclaimed “citizen of the world,” he enjoys the accolades of Libya, Venezuela, Iran, Cuba and Russia. With friends like that, who needs enemies.
But hey – screw the Olympics. Maybe Obama should now focus on bringing the World’s Fair back to Chicago. If there’s one thing that could make dictators like us more, it would be temporary structures filled with stuff from other countries. They look positively magical, even if they’re flimsy and fall apart in a strong wind.
Which sounds familiar.
And if you disagree with me, then you’re probably a racist.
Tonight we’ve got Jim Norton, S.E. Cupp, Mark Prindle and Ron Geraci!

What I find hysterical is it almost seems like the left actually believed the world hated America because of Bush. I'm beginning to think that really believed that.
Agent Orange.
I think the IOC preferred RIO. Chicago and Obama are so irrelevant. I wonder if the IOC is getting fed up with the USOC.
"To protect our nation and further our interests, our leader must reject the need to be loved by the world, and embrace being feared, even hated".
Great point, and one that is missed by people who hate to compete and who obsess over the idea of a level global playing field.
June 6, 2008: "In 2016, I'll be wrapping up my second term as president," he said to loud applause at Daley Plaza. "So I can't think of a better way than to be marching into Washington Park, alongside Mayor Daley, alongside Rahm Emanuel, alongside Dick Durbin, alongside Valerie Jarrett, as President of the United States and announcing to the world: Let the games begin."
Wow. What a complete and utter fill-in-the-blank-so-this-isn't-censored. I have to believe most Americans didn't hear that quote because Americans don't like a braggart who assumes he is owed something.
Reposting "International Committee Rejects Obama's Personal Pitch that His Large Ego Be Site of 2016 Olympics" http://optoons.blogspot.com/2009/10/obamas-person...
The Europeans were not impressed with Obama, they thought he was arrogant. George Will (finally) said somthing I agree with that the the Olympic pitch was more about Obama than the Olympics themselves:
Here is a video clip:

The Left's hypocrisy and desperation is now in bright lights for all to see. And it's a beautiful sight.
I'm sitting here just gloating up a storm. With liberals they want unity only when they are in power. Since they have never practiced it, they cannot really preach it. Wait, just one more gloat . . . . ah!

Mr Gutfeld, my congratulations and continued good luck on your recent ratings success.
I offered the same on another post but feel It can't hurt to say it again.
You are right as Rush,on the typical whining that the left gives us for our perceived
indescretions. While their opinion is considered taking the high road and ours is the low road,
will you know how it ends.
I wonder when "Dear Leader" will stop trying to blame President Bush for his own failings. I hope that America wakes up and recognizes their collective mistake in 2010 and 2012 and vote accordingly.
Never, he's a one trick pony. Knows one act, and that's what you're gonna hear.
Who wouldn't rather party in Rio rather than Chicago, unless there's a blues festival going on. I mean, really, the beaches or the lake? No brainer to me.
Plus, after Utah, its against the law to bribe the IOC. That is not going to help.

Drudge's headline said it best — "The Ego Has Landed". What he didn't add was the word "flat".
I believe Obama honestly and genuinely believed that if he showed up in Copenhagen, the little people would be so mesmerized and awestruck by his munificient magnificence that they couldn't help but do his bidding and award the prize to his beloved Chicago,
Is there anything as ridiculous as this posturing, preening stuffed shirt strutting about like a peacock? The only thing that comes close was the truly magnificent Forest Whitaker playing Idi Amin in "The Last King of Scotland". Maybe Whitaker can play the lead in the 2020 biopic, "The First King of America."
The hatred towards America is, without debate, NOT because of Kingdom Hollywood's abundance of influential, fabulous and ground-breaking "see how stupid, fat, ugly, greedy, religious, uptight, homophobic, racist, violent is America" movies produced over the past four decades.
The hatred towards America is Bush's Fault and has absolutely NOTHING to do with Hollywood!

the right has been waiting for this moment when the world pwnd The One….and it's as good as we thought it would be.
The world will love America when America renders itself impotent. Having done that last November, now they insist we cut our own throat as well. The world is hard to please.
The IOC gets to spend the next seven years visiting the site to inspect it, meet and greet, pass out favors as well as collect them. If you were them, would you rather do that it Rio or Chicago?
I know where I'd rather vacation.
The only reason the US is even in the running for any of these is because we can deliver the venues, and the MSM pays a lot more when they don't have to fly all their cameras half way around the world, and everything's happening in the middle of the night.
Last I heard, they can get somewhere between $1 – $2 billion for a US summer game.
Gloat away!
I'm not cheering Americas loss, I'm cheering Obama's loss. Because every Democrat said that, because of President Bush, the world hates us. And now that we have Obama, the universally loved citizen of the world… The world handed him is rear end on a silver (plated) platter.
Regarding "Les Nesman" reference… pure gold, ToddM!
As someone who lives in the part of Illinois that isn't Chicago, I can only say Praise God Chicago didn't get it! Downstate Illinois is always given the bill for Chicago's excesses, along with the excuse "What's good for Chicago is good for Illinois". Yeah, right. This will be one boondoggle we won't have to pay for…
Your point about Bush and the Iraq war is so spot on that I must say "Amen!"
I supported the President just not his mission…that makes me a patriotic dissenter doesn't it?
Mike Lupica is a complete hack. Never read an insightful thought in any of his commentaries. His books are as riveting as watching paint dry. A classic, if you can't play, write about it, sports wannabe.
I am getting some serious mixed messages off of this post. Can't tell if sarcasm is involved, but please write a (sarc) on these ambiguous posts to relate the sarcasm.
Ok I would be willing to accept the "It's Bush's Fault" if people that feel that way can explain one little thing that gets in the way. Time. Without a doubt these same countires that hate us because of Bush, Hated us long before Bush was even president. In fact some of the hatred goes so far back Bush Jr. was not even born yet.
So like I said please explain the timeline of hatred and how it preceeds Bush being born but somehow all goes back to "It's Bush's Fault"? I'll wait for a reply that only a fool will try and answer. The 93 Bombing of the WTC was Bush's fault? How about the Iranian Hostages in the late 70's?
They are blaming BUSH and the past administrations because, their Daddy's never taught them how to accept responsibility for theiir own actions.
There is no doubt in my mind the president is a true textbook narcissist. He actually believed he could sway the IOC with his "elegant oratories". Well, that is why he lost the bid for the Olympics. He is a smug, egotistical man and every time I hear him speak, his words ring hollow for me.
Depends on what you mean by hated. Those of us who travelled before Bush know that many countries didn't like a lot about us for a long time. You all who think the world hates us is only based on the dramatic increase of cable and the internet news during the late Clinton and Bush years. Even at the end of WW2 the average Brit couldn't wait for us to us to vacate their country and even had songs about it. And no you can't guage it when you went to Europe for a week and a couple of locals were polite to you. As a group they don't like us for a variety of prejudices and Americans need to finally realize all we truly have is each other. ALL of the other countries secretly enjoy whenever we have any problem or setback. Standing up like we did after 9-11 really gave them pause.
Good use of the word pwn. It just feels right in this case.
I won the gold medal in dancing a jig when I heard about Obama's Olympic failure.
The hatred towards America is Bush's Fault and has absolutely NOTHING to do with Hollywood!
Really? Because when I went to Australia, even though they're a socialist-lite nation they liked Americans AND President Bush. To my surprise they stated to me that THEY felt safer because BUSH was in office. This was expressed to me by several different people without me asking their opinion on politics. In fact my American companion had more of a problem with Bush than many people from foreign nations that I have met on my travels which I believe has to do with the far left media and Hollywood.
Also I think these opinions from other countries is also fueled by the younger generation who has no freakin' clue what is going on in their OWN politics let alone American politics. I see this from some of my friends overseas…they will have tons of stuff to say about how horrible America and Bush are but when it comes to their own political affairs they are ignorant and most of the information they get is from the biased media outlets we have and Hollywood.
Also one other minor point…being against gay marriage is NOT Homophobia and being against Obama's POLICIES is not racist.
Oh Gee, when I moved to Europe in 1997 I was amazed that they hated America AND t made fun of Clinton! This was 3 years before Bush was even elected. We were told by the news how much Tony Blair and the Europeans just LOOOOOOVED the Clintons.
Wrong.
There is an anti-Americanism in Europe that goes back many years. Bush didn't start it. AND it's completely irrational.

You weren't born before 1980, were you?
Europe's intellectuals have pretty much been a snit over those uncouth, nouveau riche Americans for the better part of 125 years, except when they needed our military to bail them out of trouble. And while they may enjoy the idea of President Obama coming to Copenhagen with a "kick me" sign on his keister, he's not going to change that attitude with his wonderfulness no matter what he says or does (they probably do enjoy seeing the U.S. squirm a little bit more when some cowboy like Bush or Reagan are in office, but that's only a difference in degrees, not a total change of attitude).
I can't tell if you are sarcastic or not.
Regardless, the hatred towards America is not Bush's fault *nor* Hollywood's.
If the rest of the world has a problem with the USA that is *their* problem not ours. I attribute it to a mix of jealous leaders, general ignorance of the masses, and a tinge of resentment that our society kicks so much ass with the people who were the outcasts of their cultures, who were sick and tired of how their countries did things and went to find their own path.
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but when it's a photo like the one of those Obamanators in this article…
Well, how useful is it to repeat, "Idiot" a thousand times?
Congrats GG!
Red Eye averaged 432,000 total viewers and 202,000 in the demo. Let’s deal with the demo first – CNN’s 8pmET show, hosted by Campbell Brown, averaged 191,000 in the demo. Let’s just let that one sink in – Fox News had more people in the all important A25-54 demographic watching their channel at three in the morning (east coast time) than CNN had for the show that leads off their prime time. This says as much about Fox News as it does about CNN. Wow. (emphasis mine)
The U.S. presentation to the IOC was so lame it did not require a urine test.
I hate to break it to you, but America is not widely hated. Where it is hated, it's generally for the same reasons that lefties in this country hate America: it's not socialist enough; it's not Communist enough; their chosen special interest group doesn't have every single thing they want; the President isn't 'eloquent' enough; or they're just mad that a place that in ever way defies their personal preferences is so successful.
The world does not love and hate a country based upon a 4- or 8-year administrative decision. It's a complete myth that lefties sold themselves. Hell, Canada has hated us for decades. But who cares? It's CANADA.
Darn Barry you’ve heard no again …ouch that’s gonna leave a mark.
I hope you're being sarcastic.
You know… kind of like when Bush was trying win a war in Iraq – and all those left wingers stood behind him.
War and the Olympics are somewhat different, genius.

Great article Greg, recently caught a few episodes of your show "red eye" and love the women, beautiful women with great sense of humor…yeah!!!
Hey Ed: Your point's just been proven.
Hello Super Genius..
I believe the premise of Gutfileds statement was drawing a parallel between
A not supporting the president was OK for the left-wingers during Bush
B but suddenly not OK during Obama..
hate to point out the obvious – but you should read then try to comprehend what you are reading..
maybe the 6th grade will help you in this area, if you get there
cheers
Liberals will just take another hit off the hope&change joint and forget all about obama getting slapped in the face by the IOC.
I've always said "you've got to watch it, if your going to diss CNN the're going to retaliate with their best man"
It should have said
"The Ego Has Landed On His Empty Head"…………………..That was truely a "Chicago Style Naked Belly Flop".
It should have said
"The Ego Has Landed On His Empty Head"…………….That was truely a "Chicago Style Naked Belly Flop".
You mean,…………………………….. Wolf "With the REALLY BIG BRAIN" Blitzer!!!
The ONE has been spurned. So has the Porcine talk-show-host who has NOTHING in common with her viewers, yet make her viewers drink HER KoolAid….. [Oprah]. I do not understand how poor Americans relate to this billionaire who has NOTHING in common with the common man – except for the fact that she was raped by a relative when she was a teen.
Bottom-line: Rio got it. Chicago did not.
Rob
Hey everyone, we shouldn't gloat too much (though I did) that Obama has fried egg on his face. We need to be more "respectful" and "tone down" the criticism and rhetoric that might "endanger" The One. Remember Pelosi's tears? (or were they eye-drops? Who knows what Botox paralyzes!) Of course, I thought the world was conditioned by liberals, hollywood, and the media (I know, synonyms!) TO BE MEAN, CRUEL, AND NASTY. Oh, but I guess that was behavior only reserved for worthy conservatives. So I guess we shouldn't gloat that Rio won instead of Chicago, but just be grateful that The One spent 25 whole minutes talking to the top general in Afghanistan (imagine! 25 long and glorious minutes of face time with The One!) and has spent ……., uh, how many minutes talking and doing something, you know, about JOBS, THE ECONOMY, OUR CURRENCY, OUR DEBT, IRAN'S NUCLEAR WEAPONS????????? Oh, I forgot- health care will solve all those pesky little problems.
Really nice conservative girls at that. And I'll bet they smell like fresh daiseys too.
There was never a time when we weren't hated by the rest of the world. They hated us after we gained independence from England, they hated us after WWs I&II and they'll go on hating us. Teddy Roosevelt knew this: "They may fear us and they may even respect us but they will never love us."
The image of him marching skinnily with his nose in the air and his Barney Fife sneer is killing me.
If he is to march, I'd prefer he point his toes as he does so, and shows white socks above his black patent leather dancing pumps.
Amen sister!
52 Americans held hostage for over a year in Iran in 1979.
220 Americans killed by a suicde truck bombing in Beruit in 1983.
Over 100 of the 250 people killed were Americans when Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed in 1988.
6 people were killed and over 1000 were injured in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
19 Americans and 372 other nationalities were killed in the Khobar Towers attack of 1996.
17 Americans were killed in the USS cole attack in October 2000….before Bush was elected.
The record shows there was alot of hatred toward America well before the world knew Bush even existed. I'd urge you to seek counseling to help you deal with your Bush Derangement Syndrome.
BTW, you're an idiot.
Amen to that!
=) a little smile for you Mr. Talionis….point well played!
And you wouldn't have been the only ones to pay for it. The taxes on the Olympics would have gone "viral" and spread all across America. I figure we ALL dodged a financial bullet.
Fairly certain it does…
OH well there's an even bigger endorsement for the veracity of CNN reporting. A man who most likely could not identify an encyclopedia if it fell off a shelf and broke his foot.
I'm glad Rio got the Olympics. They have a giant sized statue of Jesus on a hill over looking the city. That deserves something. Now hopefully the IOC won't make them take it down.
'Screw the Olympics" Are they making bumper stickers that say that yet? I think I'd like to purchase one to go next to my NRA sticker. (And I am NOT kidding!)
I think these negative votes are representative of most uptight blog hangers-ons' failure to recognize satire when it crashes on their heads. Sue was saying that Holllywood is a major contributor to the world's disdain for America. She's right on. BTW, Jonathan Swift, an English satirist of long-ago days, invoked the ire of England's uptight clergy a few centuries ago when he proposed "A Solution to the Irish Problem" that offered recipes for cooking Irish children. Swift, of course, was bitterly criticizing English policy toward Ireland.
Justice = 1
Cronyism = 0
Your serve, Mr. President.
Well, let's see. Mike Lupica, as with many sports reporters, never played sports. So they vicariously live through others and they're still liberal shills. Mike = Les Nesman. Now get back to your violin! Who cares what he thinks? How about if race-baiting and extortion were an Olympic sport, Jesse Jackson would be wracking up the golds! And Roland Burris is a typical Chicago-crook politician and even the Dem's don't like him. Lot of nothing. The left, yes they did, made Obama seem omnipotent and almost god-like (Evan Thomas has a shrine in his home). They put him high on a golden pedestal and now they are sore to find out that he's not Crocodile Dundee putting the water buffalo to sleep with his Texas Longhorn hand sign and low hum. Obama's a politician – nothing more, nothing less. And when the rubber meets the road, not a very good one.
Hello Super Genius..
Hello! An ellipsis is three dots.
I believe the premise of Gutfileds statement was drawing a parallel between
A not supporting the president was OK for the left-wingers during Bush
B but suddenly not OK during Obama..
Your guy's name is spelled Gutfeld, and what he was drawing a parallel between was supporting an Olympic bid Obama helped out with and, you know, THAT BIT I QUOTED WHEN HE TALKED ABOUT THE WAR IN IRAQ.
hate to point out the obvious – but you should read then try to comprehend what you are reading..
maybe the 6th grade will help you in this area, if you get there
Sentences start with a capital letter and end with a period. Welcome to the 7th grade.
Any time anyone says anything with a qualifier like "WITHOUT DEBATE" you can be sure of one thing, that the person who just said or wrote the thing cannot stand up to debate or support his or her position. Sue you are allowed your opinion, like anyone else, but you do not have the right to think your opinion is a fact.
If this was your attempt at sarcasm, it flew past me.
Wait, wait, wait… slow down. An ellipsis is three dots?
Good call! Who am I to think "betterred" – quite the name – is using punctuation that might make sense?
Brilliant posting. Thanks for exposing the left once again.
The hatred towards America is, without debate, because of "sue".
"I supported the President just not his mission."
That's a good one. I will be using it.
"War and the Olympics are somewhat different, genius."
You are correct.
Hoping Chicago doesn't get the Olympics so the President will look bad is rather childish and tacky.
On the other hand, hoping your country loses a war so the President will look bad is unforgivable.
I must admit that I was pleased to see Obama fail to get the Olympics. I didn't revel in it, but I enjoyed the moment.
Why? Because I am tired of people awarding things to Obama just because he is Obama. It's nice to know that at least someone in this world still expects people to earn their rewards.
who doesn't enjoy seeing an arrogant narcissist getting his hat handed to him ?
Speaking of fail, the clowns at CNN did a "fact check" on the SNL skit mocking obama. Like I've said before, you can't parody these lunatics. Oh, and of course the airhead doing the segment was Wolf "–$4,600 on Jeopardy for children" Blitzer.
Greg, I'm with you………………………………"screw the Olympics".
America needs those games like we need a Chicago-style gangster in the White House……….no, really.
The look on those peoples faces in the photo………………………………………….priceless.
Not all Americans opposed the Chicago Olympics because they oppose anything Obama supports, but because they know that along with the Olympics comes corruption, scandal and big spending the City, and our country, can't afford. Real estate developers, contractors, labor unions and others were already waiting in line with their hands extended.
Great article! Everybody watch Red Eye on Fox.
Obama is proving he is not the President of ALL the people of the United States of America. Obama says he is above that, Obama is a citizen of the World — BO thinks this is a more important job.
I would of thought this IOC rejection in addition to the blood in the streets could have been a 'teaching moment' for the population of Chicago to throw off their corrupt government chains and demand accountability, then I looked at the picture of the Obot crowd and just had to feel sad for the good folks of ChiTown. Has the Sun-Times folded yet?
The world will love America when Kingdom Hollywood is bankrupt and out of business.
Stop questioning my patriotism! What is this, HUAC?
Stop questioning my patriotism! What is this, HUAC 2?
Oh, you have to be kidding me. If everything is Bush's fault, explain all the bombings and terrorist acts committed during Clinton's presidency or the hostage crises during Carter's term before anyone knew anything about G. W. Bush. The world hates American because we are that "shining star "and they are jealous. Go take your Prozac.
Looks like the sheen has tarnished on the annointed one (since tarnish is black…will the libturds call me a racist?). And after the Olympic committee told Pres. Opompous to take his filthy city and take a hike, he humiliates himself further by having his loser dimwitcrats actually blame Bush! It's the equivalent of saying that the liberal's "health care reform" plan is bi-partisan. Last time I checked, the dimwitcrats ran the entire government….and they shall be blamed entirely for the government's failures.
Loved the Crocodile Dundee reference! What an image. Good one.
Oops, meant "America". Too angry to type.
On the other hand, hoping your country loses a war so the President will look bad is unforgivable.
Let me know who did that, guy. That motivation would be awful of course.
As a resident of Illinois just south of "Crook County" (highest county sales tax in the country!), I say that Chicago's loss was a gain to all the residents of the state of Illinois. If Chicago had gotten the Olympics, we would have seen enormous cost overruns due to graft and cronyism. The taxpayers of Illinois would have been put "on the hook" to feed this pig.
America didn't lose. Brazil did. Or rather Brazil WON…..the right to throw billions of dollars, or whatever the Brazilian equivalent is down a rat hole in order to host a bloated overly hyped track meet. Now we can sit at home, watch it all on TV and not spend a dime.
Yes. I think some people are not getting the sarcasm…
In all fairness, I don´t think Chicago lost because of Obama. I think it wasn´t our turn. And I don´t hold it against him that he tried to do something for his hometown.
No, it´s the typical way he did it – no hard groundwork, just raise expectations, fly in to hold a vain speech that´s all about him (her), followed by anticlimax and disillusion. At least it was not about nukes or the economy… this time.
It's up for sale for $5 million – only $5 MILLION. The slae of the Boston Globe went for over ten times that amount.
If Chicago had gotten it, all the Illinois tax-payers would have gotten it, too – up the A$$!
Aaaah, Jim Norton and S.E. Cupp. I love those two on yer show!
Kinda funny- they were talking about all of the crime, gang stuff, murders etc.. about Rio but no mention about chicago's.
Dont forget, Bush is also responsible for every tsunami in Asia, and every hurricane in the western hemisphere that has taken place in the entire 20th century and that will ever take place in the entire 21st century to come.
Ok , so to further our interests the president should be "Feared and hated" around the world? Also, "Screw the olympics" . And you really want to draw a parallel between Bush's failures in Iraq and Obama's not getting the olympics? All I can say is I that I really hope more republicans will express these views often and loudly.
"…NO ONE DIED. Unlike, say during the Iraq war, where, whenever there was a roadside bombing, the progressives did their own special victory dance…"
Amen. That is exactly right. And the context matters. If it were not the culmination of 9 months of high-handed, arrogant incompetence from the Obama administration, nobody would say a thing.
Having said that, I´m trying not to gloat. After all, why Chicago? We had the games in 1984 and 1996, and winter olympics in 1980 and 2002. It´s only fair that other countries get the chance to host the games. As a large and rapidly developing country, Brazil strikes me as an obvious choice. Good for them. Now the Obama administration should turn their attention, you know, Afghanistan, Iranian nukes and economic growth.
I agree, Hollywood has an ego big enough to think they could influence world opinion, but that's just "artists" blowing smoke out their you know where.
The reason the world hates America is because we succeed, where they have failed. For thousands of years, they've tried over and over to create a more perfect society, and every single time, they end up in ashes.
America has built the highest standard of living in the world. For better or for worse, America is the world. We invented the car, the plane, the computer, and real miracles in science, technology and health care. We are the envy of the world. And envy breeds hate.
Further more, the vast majority of people around the world living in relative freedom, owe that freedom to America. In America we send our sons and daughters, our parents, our brothers and sisters, our neighbors, and ourselves, to other nations, not to conquer and rule them, but to provide and protect thier freedom. More envy.
But I think the real kicker is, the best and the brightest of their nations long ago – and still today – recognize America is the land of opportunity, and so they did everything they could to get over here. They've left behind people who are satisfied with the status quo, happy with cradle to grave mediocrity.
Those are the ones that hate America, and it has nothing to do with the occupant of the White House.
Blame the Hollywood for making movies that make America's image so bad, they distribute it around the world and the muslim extremist felt that they are the good guy.
Remember class…this is just Round 1…next year Obama gets to lend his…well whatever it is he lends…to the US bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022….and if you think the IOC is corrupt, wait until you meet Sepp Blatter, Jack Warner, and the rest of those fun-loving guys at FIFA!
Same old, same old. When are you people going to stop blaming Bush for everything that goes wrong in this country? Who knew the man had that much power?
As a resident of Illinois (the central part that doesn't really exist) I was never so happy when the IOC gave the Olympics to Rio. Obama, Daley, Durbin, Burris, and the rest of them came off looking like the boobs that they really are.
What is wrong with everyone? Are we so much of a self-centered nation that we assume everything revolves around us? What arrogance the President shows to assume that by simply flying over to Europe with his wife and Oprah to personally make a pitch for Chicago that the Olympic committee's plans would instantly change to our benefit. Brazil won simply because, THEY WERE DUE! The continent of South America had never hosted a summer Olympic games and so, it was South America's / Brazil's time to be placed on the world's stage. Japan has hosted multiple Olympics, England, France, Canada, the US, Russia, and so forth.
Those countries that like the U.S. still do and those that don't, still don't. The degree of like and dislike goes up and down, and perhaps it is down lately, but that didn't affect the decision. Brazil was the heavy favorite since the beginning of the selection process, and sure enough, they won.
