Daily Gut: The Willingness to Engage

So the U.S. and Iran just had what’s been called “significant” talks concerning Tehran’s nuclear plans. The goal for us, was two fold: to get Iran to “shift course,” and to prove President Bush was an idiot for not negotiating with a gentleman who denies the Holocaust and wants to wipe Israel off the map.
So how tough have we been so far?
Well, while administration officials said that gaining access to Iran’s uranium enrichment facility is super important, we sure as heck won’t walk away from the table if they refuse (which they haven’t). And let’s not go too fast on those sanctions either.
That’s just rude.
So essentially, we’ve not only met with Iran without preconditions, but also, without any measurable objectives. Meaning, we’re okay leaving the table with less than what we arrived with. Well, if you wanted to show a sharp break from the days of old, giving in is a sure bet.
Could you imagine using this logic in a playground? Imagine surrendering the reigns of leadership of a grade school, just so you can chat with the most weaponized, belligerent bully. “Look, we don’t like you threatening to kill the Jewish kids, or your continued work on your massive numchuk factory – but we’re pleased you’re here to listen. More punch? It’s the kind you like! Sharkleberry fin!”
The good news is – these talks only lasted one day. If they’d gone on any longer, we probably would have returned the Louisiana Purchase.
(Iran had it originally, right?)
Lastly, the state department warns against making a snap judgment – for we should “evaluate the willingness of Iran to engage on these issues.”
Which leads me to my final thought: how come no one ever questions our willingness to engage?

I can't imagine what harm could possibly come from two of the most notoriously deceptive leaders in modern history sitting down to negotiate something as delicate and intrinsic as possessing nuclear weapons. One leader lies to his people to build his own nation up, and apologizes to no one. The other leader lies to his people to tear his own nation down, and apologizes to everyone. Yeah nothing could go wrong here!
This will not end well.
Israel better start fueling their jets. This could go bad quickly and either way it will not end well. If Israel bombs them, the media will have a field day, and "our" president will be out in front of the pack saying they acted stupidly.
All that needs to be said.
The US is not going to do anything but watch Iran do what they want to do. Obama already said in a speech that he will not stand in the way of any country using nuclear power for peaceful purposes. Iran will just say they are not making a weapon and no you cannot come here and conduct any kind of inspection. Iraq did the same thing until we finally entered their country. No they didn't have the goods we may have thought but they sure as hell acted like they did. I am sorry folks but the only way we are going to know for sure what they are making is to see for ourselves, all the rest is posturing and delays. They learned this works from their neighbor.

Meanwhile 61% of the American public thinks we should use military force to ensure that Iran doesn't get the bomb.

Yep……………After we apologize for misunderstanding them, and hurting their feelings, we'll be helping them to enrich uranium themselves, or simply sell them a bomb of their own.
Strictly for deterrence purposes, mind you.

I think you're right Pete; that was the argument I was making to someone I work with about why we were going into Iraq. We were attacked on 9-11 and if we did nothing but sit on our hands, Islamo-Facists would view this as a sign of weakness, which they DO NOT respect. The only thing the DO respect is FORCE. Our actions in both Iraq and Afganistan may have bought us some time for now, but now I'm getting a little weary. As for Israel, I'd quote No_Big_Gov from above, " Israel better start fueling their jets." I would assume that they, the Israelis already have contengency plans, as their survival depends on it.
I am so (pardon the language) pissed off about this. Am I overreacting? At what point is the insanity of this prez impeachable? Would that accomplish anything? Will we ever have leaders that serve our interests again? What are we going to be paying in money, tears, respect, and blood, for years and years to recover, if that's even possible, from the gigantic mistakes being made? Or are they mistakes, are they something much worse? I swear some days I'm no longer sure if I'm reading the news or having Twilight Zone flashbacks. Dear Lord please help us all and please bless this country.

I'm sorry Greg but AchinMyDerrier is not the President of Iran. The man elected President was Mousavi. This toad is a puppet for evil murdering psychos. We in the Conservative Press need to start refering to Mousavi as the President of Iran, our Congressman need to ask him every chance they get when he is over here when they can meet with Mousavi since he is the President. When kennedy took this approach in his inaugeral address (most people only remeber the Ask not part) he opened the door for the Russians to challenge him. To his great luck our benefit he grew a pair before it was too late. In fact every president since then has managed to keep soviet / russian /european and asian out of the western hemisphere but in 9 short months You have russian navy paling around in Venezuela and China getting ready to 'responsibly' start drilling for oil in our back yard. GOOD JOB Mr. Obama, keep appeasing your way into the hearts of the world.
When you tell someone what you are going to do and them give them ample time to make adjustments and hide things, you will always only find the things they wanted you to find. Not to say that there were never any WMD in Iraq, he had months and years to move them, Syria, most likely. Thes people are not stupid and alot smarter than the libs. As much as we in the west want to believe that everyone can be negotiated with in a reasoned and civilized manner, reality is that most of the rest will take advantage of you at their first opportunity and giving them an opening is all they need.

So what really is the reason for these one on one talks ? So that Odumbo can make sure once again that this country looks as weak and stupid as him. There is no reason for these talks at all. Iran will never give anything up and cares less about what we think. We were all warned before the election that odumbo would sit down one on one. This is the frightening anti- Reagan moment – the community organizer has not a clue. Look at the track record so far.

You don't play nice with a dangerous man such as Ahmadinejad yet that is exactly what the US is doing. For all the so-called "tough talk" that Obama has been doing regarding Iran recently, the US is still trying to play nice with him so he likes us.
Why is Obama over the seas trying to get the Olympics in Chicago, the town with all the dead kids in it. I don't want the Olympics in Chicago! It reminds me of when people criticized McCain for leaving the campaign trail to work on the bailout and it being called a gimmick. But I don't care about the Olympics right now. I care about the economy and the war.

I'm now convinced Obama is more delusional than Ahmadinejad. The Iranian Madman does not attempt to hide his objectives as Hitler did re "the final solution", he openly calls for the nuclear annihilation of Israel and the extermination of His people. Obama on the other-hand pretends that Ahmadinejad and the mullahs do not have genocidal and nuclear aspirations; he pretends they can be reasoned with when over the last 30 years they've shown absolutely no signs of cooperation. The west is repeatedly getting spit in the face by these islamic tyrants and crawling home with their collective tails between their legs and pretending something was accomplished.
Obama is an absolute danger to the security of this nation and for that matter the rest of the world which recognizes there are terrorist states and dangerous nations that must be dealt with harshly, but obama's narcissism keeps him from accepting this basic truth.
This fraud, that was put in the White House through criminal tactics by ACORN and propaganda from the liberal media not seen since Hitler's propaganda ministers were in full swing, must be removed.

The world must ask itself if it’s tolerable for the leading sponsor of terrorism over the last 30 years to have a nuclear bomb. Any sane and intellectually honest person would say No. Therefore the only option is a military strike considering the mullahs have no intention of abandoning their nuclear program.
Iran’s airwaves should be taken over and the Voice of America should prepare their citizens for the coming strike. Let them know we’ve come to bring force to their cries for freedom and justice; let them know the leadership will be decapitated; its forces will be decimated. You must fill the vacuum and take control from the extremists.
Then let all freedom loving nations unite to destroy this Islamic menace once and for all. The greatest irony is that the leader thus far in the West has proven to be Sarkozy of France.

Okay, this is one of the sidebars to this discussion that I've never understood. They're Iran. They export oil. To us. They're supposedly building nuclear facilities for domestic energy purposes. Why don't we let them keep their oil (thus removing a revenue stream to terrorism) and instead build nuclear plants here? Why is Obama standing in the way of our country using nuclear power for peaceful purposes?

When france is the most hardcore hawk in the bunch, we are in for a sh*t load of trouble. I sat there watching our president become the neville chamberlain of our time. I said this aloud. "What a fool". He is, and we are, for not pushing harder for a competent individual to lead our country. We have allowed the ignorance and stupidity in our culture to reach such a massive crescendo, that purely half of all citizens voted this boob into office, on the pretext of unspecified hope and undeclared change. We have allowed emotion and political correctness and hallmark movie moments, to become our guide-instead of knowledge and intellect. We are about to get what we deserve. Maybe when the nuclear winter clears, we can begin to rebuild civilization with the few people intelligent enough to survive the coming holocaust.
