Daily Gut: Dave Matthews
by Greg GutfeldYou may remember when, a few years back, the tour bus belonging to rabid environmentalist/human kazoo Dave Mathews dumped up to 100 gallons of human waste through the grates of a Chicago bridge, drenching folks on a boat below, as well as polluting the river. Well, the chirping goggle-eyed warbler is at it again – this time spewing a load of crap on America, in an interview with CNN.
When the network asked whether the singer agreed with Jimmy Carter, who said America is rife with racism, Matthews said, quote, “Of course it is! I found there’s a fairly blatant racism in America that’s already there, and I don’t think I noticed it when I lived here as a kid. …There’s a good population of people in this country that are terrified of the president only because he’s black, even if they don’t say it. And I think a lot of them, behind closed doors, do say it.”
Okay – let me get this straight. The entertainer sees “blatant” racism everywhere – yet describes it as unsaid – and behind closed doors!
Which means, it’s not blatant at all! It’s invisible, like oxygen – yet Matthews can see it!
Amazing.
Look, it’s got to be awesome to possess an ability to detect bigotry in people who show no signs of it. Matthews should hire himself out to local fairs, next to the chap who can guess your weight.
However, I may be giving Dave too much credit. He just doesn’t seem like a guy who thoughtfully came to this conclusion, all by himself. I mean, his tiresome screed sounds exactly like the same baloney you hear from other entertainers who pretend they’re keeping it real, when in fact their heads never rest on anything less than a Ritz Carlton pillow. It’s the guilt they feel about their own cushy existence that drives them to sidle up to the oppressed, even if there is no oppressor.
It’s enough to make me boycott Dave Mathews’ music. Which I admit is pointless, since I never listened his crap to begin with.
And if you disagree with me, then you’re probably a racist.
Tonight: the lovely Sandra Smith, the delightful Jim Norton, Kevin Godlington, and Ace Frehley!

His music stinks, and so do his political "insights."
Why would any one listen to this jack-off? He's a media generated creation and nothing more.
This asshat cancelled his last two shows in Salt Lake City. Not just postponed–CANCELLED.
We don't really want to see him anyway. His songs sound like ads for the American Lung Association.
Who's Dave Matthews?
Dave's right. We also disliked Clinton, Hillbilly and Algore because they're black.
Dave's right. We also disliked Clinton, Hillbilly and Algore because they're black.
By the way, I hate black caviar; red is the best.
There isn't much that can be said when Matthews has kind of said it all.
When a liberal is making an ass of himself just keep out of the way and let him rave on.
Greg:
Remember that Dave Matthews was doing his fans on that boat a favor. His band's feces and urine is a sweet smelling combination of diversity, love, sustainability, and gonorrhea. We should all be so lucky!
Dave Matthews is a child molester. Sure, he doesn't talk about it in public, but at home I know what he does. He can't prove I'm wrong.
as a Chicagoan (well, close to, anyway) we remember the famous Matthews 'poop' incident…
And after it happened their first instinct, like all lefties, was to lie. When the lie didn't stick- scores of people saw it happen- they then threw the poor driver under the bus (forgive the pun). It was HIS fault, you see. Of course, he has to push a button up front while a lever in the rear of the bus by the potty needs to be pulled simultaneously.
Even Rosemary Woods couldn't perform that acrobatic of a trick by herself much less the maligned bus driver.
Eventually they fessed up. Sort of. And did what all liberals do- throw money at it.
Yours. You paid to see this modestly talented PC nitwit…
Funny that Greg feels he has to be a music critic. I wonder what he listens too. Also funny he has to mention to waste dump incident. You think he told the whoever did it to do it. You think that's something he's in charge of when he's on tour. Just stick to your bad politicl commentaries Greg.
So what do you listen to?
The stores have GOT to be running out of tinfoil by now. I mean, the Left needs to pile a LOT of that shiny, crinkly stuff on top of their noggins in order for them to receive the Beta Gamma rays that allow them to 'hear' something that's never said, 'see' something that's invisible – and, oh yeah, read people's minds while they're at it.
No more tinfoil? Damn. And here I was going to be barbecuing this weekend. Guess I'll have to console myself with my guns and religion.
So what kind of music do you listen to?
Dave Matthews is a douchenozzle and his music sucks ass.
Dave Matthews is a musician, supposedly, in search of relevance. He has a bad habit of jumping on the Band Wagon after someone has set it on fire. Obviously he isn't on the in crowds twitter list. If he had been he would have known that the racist argument is so old hat, now it has returned to the Big Bad Corperations again, an old liberal standby. The Administrations first target is Humana but it will not be the last. If Dave had been in the know he would have said Humana is racist.
Your one man boycott will do no good. Don't forget that this is the band John Edwards promised to his mistress that will play atop the NY building where John will propose to her one his poor wife kicks the bucket. Sounds like the band is still in high demand, and playing to high class citizenry everywhere.
John Edwards is by far my favorite Dem, he just doesn't get enough airtime with this scandal. Not fair.
Well played! +1 rep for you my friend.
Now that's funny, I don't care who you are. (sorry Larry for stealing from you)
Cancelled? Salt Lake City oughta grateful on various levels.
Cancelled? Salt Lake City oughta be grateful on various levels.
So…He didn't notice the racism when he was a kid…But he notices now the racism behind closed door. The only possible explanation is he's become an evesdropper and peeping tom.
Yup, no need to boycott that which I've never listened to in the first place. As usual, Mr. Gutfeld, inspired un-chirpiness!
If you were not so busy inhaling your own smugness you might have caught Greg's list of top 100 songs. And it is called satire and it is often used to point out the hypocrisy of people.
No he cant stop you from telling the truth, although if he wasn't so busy producing audible abortions he may try to sue you.
In the words of Nibbler from Futurama: "The Dave Matthews does not rock."
Well nobody hear likes his politics and just co-incidentally, they don't like his music either. I suppose you all think Sean Penn can't act either.
Why is it that only famous or semi famous people think that famous or semi famous people are smart?
Yeah, Dave Matthews does suck…music and all. All right?
Geez, lookit Joey here all hot and bothered and so ready and willing to come to Dave's defense. He's like some big scorned boyfriend. Relax! Heel, boy. I think Dave can fight his own battles.

Well I'm not a big fan of Dave Matthews either but I would say he's a pretty talented musician. So's his whole band from what I've seen as far as rock music goes.
Well, here we are with Dave Matthews. He is one of the douchebags that ruined the acoustic guitar and popular music. He is the perfect example of why record companies are losing millions. And he is preachy. And he can't sing. What the hell is wrong with modern culture? There are tens of thousands of plumbers, teachers, doctors, construction workers and other modest, unassuming working people in this country that could out-play and out-sing this douche. But you nor I will never know of them. Why? Because they are not propogandists for the left.
Sean Penn and Dave Mathews are cut from the same "no talent hacks" cloth.
must have missed that. I'll try and find it.
I would agree that his political insight stinks but he is an incredibly talented musician.
He's like all of the other musicians or actors that think their trendy political/social views trump the very system that they've used to make their fortunes.
Look, I've learned over the years to separate an artist from their politics. Otherwise it would be impossible to enjoy almost anything in the arts. Still, Dave Matthews music has never appealed to me in the slightest, and I like lots of modern pop and rock music.

I don't know if it matters to you or not but I agree. I've also learned over the years not to put down other people's taste in music.
Between his thumb and index finger(in the photo) he is showing you how much significance his opinion regarding anything has, and how much talent and brains exist in his entire 5' 1" frame.Or is that the length of his…………..never mind.
Yummy Kevin Godlington! My husband hates when I get my revenge for the news anchorettes who sit on the end.
Dave Matthews?–my kids listened to him in jr. high, uh, ten years ago. They've moved on.
It sounds like some of the waste dumped from his tour bus evidently found it's way into his head.
Phenomenal musicians being weighted down by one of the worst insufferably nasal voices/warbles this side of Geddy Lee's early years. Though Dave's 'nads might drop in his 50s like Geddy's did, I highly doubt I'll be diggin' DMB the way I do Rush these days. Politics won't have anything to do with it, either.
Musicians, actors, and athletes should not be allowed to talk. The First Amendment should be amended to reflect this new rule. If Dave wants to sing his left wing propaganda, we can't stop that. But no one would be able to understand his marble-mouthed warbling anyway.
i remember, everytime i see, or hear him, i say there's the guy who crapped over the chicago river. you would think a enviro-nitwit would'nt want to put raw sewage in to a river. but hey, when nobody is looking what the heck.
You ought to try living here in the People's Republic of Charlottesville. You'd see first hand the atmosphere that nurtured his nimrod behavior.
Thanks for the shoutout to construction workers.
To quote a certain SHY and MODEST apologist in chief:
"a typical white persons" liberal outrage formula, made up of "false choices" and "petty bickering":
statement A -extreme, unfounded, unproven OPINION
+ statement B- contradicts statement A while convicting conservatives
= typical stupid, inane "celebrity insightful" brilliance at it's best (which really makes people with more than two brain cells wonder- how can that fatso walking heart-attack Moore claim capitalism = greed WITHOUT it being his OWN BIO?)
Yeah, that's about how small your you-know-what is, Dave.
I couldn't care less if someone doesn't like the music I enjoy; lots of people would think the people I like are awful. So what? Why should anyone take it personally if I think Dave Matthews's music stinks?
Aside from Dave Matthews, perhaps, and he can suck it.
You guys sure spend a lot of time on someone you hate so much.
I'm of the mindset Sean Penn used to be able to act. Well, one time really well in Dead Man Walking, a movie I still enjoy, and pretty entertainingly in the underrated State of Grace. Otherwise, either plays himself as drugged-out or extra-preachy, sometimes more convincingly than others (Falcon and the Snowman, Fast Times, At Close Range and Carlito's Way). Also thought his comic chops were decent in We're No Angels.
, even if they don’t say it.
Ah. The last resort of the brigand and coward.
Why give a fig for what DM (Democratic Mouthpiece) says about anything?
.
It's just one of those cases where a man's music has never resonated for me, and his cretinous politics make me glad about it. That's all.
Was he acting in I Am Sam? It's kind of hard to tell.
The racism claims are intended for the ears of the people that don't pay attention to the news or current events- Jay Leno's Jaywalker types. The ones that jumped on the Obamatrain during the election because it was the thing to do. Those that pick up on the racism mantra and start repeating it, like Dave Matthews, are showcasing their shallowness to the world.
Touche!
So you don't like him because he says that racism exists, or do you just not like his reasoning? Racism obviously exists in this country, so you're not actually arguing that, are you?
You never go full retard.
see our above post…
He DID tell someone to do it- it's a TWO man job…
they were 'partying hardy' as they say in the trade. They needed, uh, more room in the potty. The dump was intentional, landing on the Wendella wasn't…
All thanks to them (and you, if that's what you are).
Since CNN's ratinga are in the toilet do you think they will move toward a more conservative point of view? That would make financial sense – it's what's done in a a capitalist society — if some one finds a formula that works others imitate. Except our leftist media! Murdoch is one lucky capitalist – found something that works and everyone else is afraid to imitate him!
That is not what he said. He said he could hear "unspoken racism" behind closed doors. If he hears unspoken racism, HE is the racist. Just like carter and dowd. They are racists, therfore everyone must be. Right?
I understand and agree music like most arts is a finicky and personal thing.
It just looked like with many of the comments in here that it had become a shot gun blast on his musical ability over his illogical political talk.
I'm in the odd position of being a huge DMB fan and appalled by his comment. I've gone to 5 shows so far this year and will finish the season in Tulsa – hella-disappointing, but not exactly a shocker, and I like the music too much for it to be inexcusable. But Dave, grow up bud.
Dave Matthews: Edgy as a bowling ball, And just as sharp.

You mean like you and Bush? And Palin? And Cheney?
Love the music,, can't stand the politics. Sorta the Eddie Vedder thing. These guys need a clue!!!!! Greg, you definitely have a clue!
Gee, sounds like I'm getting under someone's skin. Of course that's not my intent.
Well they're all people who have control, or run for office in the hopes of having control, over you. Dave Matthews is just a singer with an opinion.
So that everyone knows that they are….fools
As a South African I'm sure Mr. Matthews understands apartheid very well, his father worked for IBM-about those funny little tattoos the Germans were tagging cattle, err ah sorry , people in Central/Eastern Europe , huh…I guess Dave Matthews thinks this country is just one big plantation. This guy is looking in the mirror…..
John Edwards promised his mistress that when his wife died he would marry her and Dave Matthews would sing at their wedding — how romantic!!!!!

am i a muscist because i don't like this one hit wonder?
Let's see – 10% unemployment, faltering foreign and domestic policy, but people are angry because he is black. No, its because he's failing.
I gave him a wide berth after his "Hike up your skirt, little boy, and show the world to me" lyrics creeped me the hell out.
What is the deal with that picture? Did he get arrested for the illegal dumping? It looks like a mug shot.
A MLK kind of man would wring some sensible words out of that scrawny neck. I do wonder how much socialized utopia of writing credits goes on in the DMB world. Spreading the wealth equally, Dave?
Hey – Self loathing South African, get the hell out of our country and back to your crime-ridden cesspool…
Dave Matthews can see oxygen because he's stoned off his a$$ all the time…
His rolling carbon emissions violation dumped toxic human waste on people in Chicago? No $h!t, REALLY?!
Too funny! Such a shame serendipity didn't make it Obama that he dumped on!
How's that for racist?! Ta-da!!!!!
Look at all that invisible racism in me…see it? I don't even mention race and I'm just bigoted all over!!!! Yaayyy!!!!
Figures…Dave Matthews grows up in South Africa and has the balls to talk about American racism…puh-lease!!!
"huh…I guess Dave Matthews thinks this country is just one big plantation"
What are you even talking about? What is the point you're trying to make?
What are you talking about? Do you believe there isn't racism in America? Or just that Dave Matthews shouldn't talk about it because you don't like him?
Just to clarify for BBK*, I actually have no problem with Dave Mathews music…I have most of his albums. I think Dave Mathews shouldn't talk out his a$$ and call people racists who aren't.
* I got an email alert say BBK responded to my comment yet I don't see BBK's comment here.
What a nitwit. I have absolutely no respect for idiots like him.
There really are people who should just shut up and sing….personally I have to agree with Greg; Matthews has never been anything special lyric or music wise. Just another so called "Musical Artist" taking up space and oxygen.(IMO)
*Applauds.*
I could never stand The Dave Matthews Band. Bad '90s fratboy rock crap. Dumping their waste into the river in Chicago is bad enough but a co-worker once told me about another douche-y incident involving the band several years ago. Before they hit the big time, they steadily toured colleges and universities all over the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. (They were based out of Richmond, VA.) They were unsigned when they allowed an indie record store in the Boston area to sell tapes of their live performances. Then when they were picked up by a big record label, the big record label sicced its lawyers on the indie record store. The band twiddled their thumbs and did nothing while the store was driven out of business.
Just another reason to hate Dave Matthews.
In a court of law, I'd say to Mr. Matthews "Objection your honor. Counsel is attempting to read the minds of the accused" What arrogance. Pres cater, Clinton and Bill Cosby too. But then again, I could be a racist, so this argument is null and void.
Come now, you give him to much credit when you compare him to the humble bowling ball. The bowling ball can have a alot of impact ands generate alot of force. Especialy if thrown during a drunken rage.
Dave on the other hand couldnt muster any meaningful force and he has all the impact a poem by a three year old dedicated to his favorite crayon. He is more of a snow flake among millions of other snow flakes. Soft and not very memorable.
I love RUSH as well. Came to like them rather late in the game as I thought they were a tad pretentious, but the more I listened to them, the more I fall in love with them.
DMB, on the other hand flat out bores me to death. My little sister likes him, me not at all, and that has nothing to do with his political insights or lack there of. Greg is right!
RUSH ROCKS!!!!!!!!
You win the rhetorical question of the day award!!
I agree with you Kensington, I find his music boring, politics confirm my dislike, as well.
Dave has spoke his opinion and now we're exercising our freedom of speech to give our opinion of his. Oh I forgot only famous "cool" people can say what they think if we comment on it were being mean and threatening their freedom of speech, leared that from the Dixie Chicks
your assignment review liberal behavior for the last 8 years
What were arguing is his position that racism goes on behind closed doors. What proof does he have? I can say that behind closed doors Hollywood is a bunch of liberals that hate America, well are you denying that Hollywood isn't liberal?
Nope not a chance. Main example Hollywood keeps churning out anti-American/war films, everyone has lost money but that hasn't stopped them because it's not about the money to them they have to let us know how wrong we are.
My guess is Dave's gunning for the currently open spot of pompous liberal windbag with a musical background that Henry Rollins vacated on the Independent Film Channel.
Look, is it so hard to swallow your pride and admit that frm. President Carter is right on this one issue? That doesn't necessarily mean I support him. He's done some incredibly stupid things and hired some of the most incompetent people I have ever seen. I don't even agree with him that a good man like Rep. Wilson is a racist. I do, however, agree that there is a racial undercurrent motivated by the unconscious fears of certain people who oppose President Obama. If they knew the truth about what it is they oppose about Obama's healthcare plan, would they be using such racially-tinged terms like "Marxist", "Communist", "radical" or "socialist"? If even Bill Cosby can agree with frm. President Carter on this issue, you really have to asks yourselves whether you have fully found the whole truth to all of this.
I'd reply, except that this post is so poorly written that I can't even decipher whatever point it is you're trying to make.
Average Schmoe back at it. Your pointed barbs are enough to keep me up at night. You're so prophetic.
Dave Matthews sounds like Oliver Stone on glue and his thoughts sound as incoherent. And he's short and funny looking. And his dog thinks he smells funny. The human kazoo is a great way to describe his voice.
