Daily Gut: Aversive Racism
by Greg GutfeldSo after witnessing the waves of antipathy across the country toward President Obama’s policies, New York Times writer Charles Blow introduces his readers to the term, “aversive racism.” It’s a sinister kind of prejudice, Charles explains, that reveals itself in disagreements based on factors “other than race.”
A simpler definition of aversive racism?
If you say it’s not about race, then it’s really about race.
See: if you’re against socialized medicine, it’s really because our President, who’s for it, is black. If you’re against the redistribution of wealth because it goes against your own beliefs in free markets and individual achievement – it’s because Obama is black. If you’ve done a lot of research on global warming, and decided it’s hypothetical hooey – that belief is now racist, since Obama buys into climate change hysteria.
Isn’t it awesome how everything you believe in, is now just proof you’re a bigot!
That’s why aversive racism might be the greatest invention ever for the left, because it exempts them defending their own screwy beliefs. If you disagree with any worn out or destructive “progressive” idea – then you must be a hood-wearing hater. It’s the low-down trick to end all low-down tricks, and it gives the left what it so desperately needs: immunity for their reviled beliefs.
As a rightie, I don’t see color – a black liberal and a white liberal are all just liberals. But it’s different on the left. Progressives hate conservatives, but they hate black conservatives more. They hate right wingers, but they hate Hispanic right wingers more. They hate Republicans, but they hate female Republicans more. This intolerance it directed purely at people different from themselves, reflecting the reverse of aversive racism: real racism.
And if you disagree with me, then you’re most definitely a racist.
Tonight we’ve got S.E. Cupp, John Devore, Trace Gallagher and a special guest (hint: it’s another Breitbart blockbuster…he really is a human firework).

Greg, you're even better than guacamole!
It's really quite simple. They want to TAKE money from people they don't like (those who earn lots of it through their hard work, education, creativity, and willingness to take risks) and GIVE that money to people they do like – basically, anyone who will vote for them.
I have a feeling these next couple of years is our last chance to save the United States from becoming a socialist cesspool. Yes, there are some encouraging signs, but it very much remains to be seen whether it translates into votes for our candidates. The tens of thousands of tea party protesters (as I know from speaking with some of them) may very well decide to stay away from the voting booths in 2010 and 2012, on the grounds, "The republicans are just as bad, and I'm tired of voting for the lesser of two evils, so I registered my protest against Washington by staying home on election day!" This is a real threat. We are a long way from success.
Is it about racism? Why, because Jimmy Carter said so? I don't buy it. In the immortal words of Congressman Joe Wilson; Mr. Obama: "YOU LIE!"
This has nothing to do with Obama being black. it has everything to do with calling a Spade a spade; talking straight and telling the truth. Never, will I ever again feel the need for some slick talking politician in a shiny suit to look me in the eye and say: "I did not have sex with that woman…………."
Further, I'm not interested in spending the next eight years parsing words to determine what exactly "is", is……
Geez Greg, that New York Times writer really blows! That is the silliest term I've ever heard of and the worst case of spin in a long time.
Welcome to Red Eye. It's kind of like Face The Nation, if by "nation" you mean "parole board".
The perfect non-argument argument. Impossible to defend, and impossible to counter no matter how massively stupid the argument is. The left will not give up on the racial accusations since they know they have cover from the Big Media. This continual dishonest attacks using racial politics will one day back fire but that day does not seem to be today. One day everyone will come to realize how the race issue has been used on the left not to uplift a people from historical wrongs done to them but only to placate them for selfish reasons.
A very good Gregism, my Gregism friends. If butter were the truth, then Greg's words would be buttermilk.
Seriously, I am very angry about the direction this country has turned….. from taxes, to foreign policy, to socialism. Never once have I considered race in my decisions. Indeed, progressives are the true racists.
"Code word" is code for slandering those who disagree with you with absolutley zero evidence to back you up.
It hadn't been "about race." But the supporters of Obama's initiatives are contriving to make it "about race." As the definitions of "racism" are extended to include what was formerly considered benign behavior not intended to disrespect or harm anyone, the word is losing its semantic cachet, and evoking a "so what" response from growing numbere of people. By invoking race so frequently and egregiously, its status as a taboo is evanescing.
Being black no longer grants a license to engage in misconduct. If the criminal or corrupt actors are "black or brown," it is immaterial as that does not confer a shield for misconduct. For a long time, negative responses were held in abeyance because of the race of the perpetrators. No longer. Even if all of the members of a criminal or corrupt group are minorities, they nevertheless should and hopefully will be held to pay for their activities.
Deference to black posturing has been the vogue for several decades now with some insightful people playing the game for all it was worth. What Jesse Jackson did was demand money or its equivalent for himself and his cronies. He indicated that the basis for these grants of largesse were not in return for any positive activity on his part, but as a "ransom" to avoid disruption of the businesses from which money was obtained under threat of duress, Politically motivated grants from the government to support creation of institutional bases for his organizations to support his activities, also became commonplace and provided Jackson with the potential to secure more money, and also to maintain his organization from grants, and from "donations" exacted.. Jackson and his family have enriched themselves financially and secured prominence and fame as a result of Rev. Jacksons recognition of the dynamics which enabled his activities, which some would view as tantamount to extortion, to occur.
The current day community organiztions are extensions in the principle of Jackson's activities, which use taxpayers money and funds obtained under duress from businesses to advance political and personal goals of "leaders." Possibly push has come to shove and recompense of racial and ethnic political blocs for curtailing the potential for destructive behavior will cease.
Since "race" has been used as a tool and a cover for malodrous activities, and for exacting money from the general public and the body politic, it probably is about time that it is recognized that such activities are about "race," and that those who are criminal or corrupt will be opposed and consigned to the fate they merit without "race" being a shield.
Could someone replay the "I Have a Dream" speech for them please.
Excellent opinion!
Isn’t it awesome how everything you believe in, is now just proof you’re a bigot!
But, they really do believe that.. We are bigots by mere fact of our existence in a culture that is not theirs. Everything we believe, everything we have experienced that shapes our world view, is totally based in a "faulty" culture. They really do believe we are bigots, and I' m beginning to understand that, more scary than an epithet to be hurled, it is becoming a reason to take away our liberties.
Integrity: Government has none
See: Plyler vs. Doe (egregious abuse of the 14th)
Someone get Jim-MEH Carter a sweater the cold is affecting his thinking ability.
Hear , hear !
I'm not a racist. My brother's the big NASCAR fan
Is it not amazing that cnservative southern right wingers now hold that speech in higher regard than Yankee liberal left wingers.
Excellent post, Greg. May I take this opportunity to suggest an all-star panel to discuss your comments? I'd go with Lauren Savant, S.E. Cupp, Courtney Friel, Anna Gilligan (and possibly her lesbian sister) and Hannah Giles? They have the best opinions in the business.
Oh, could you try to get Carrie Prejean as well? And lose Bill for the night (although Pinch can stay).
SE Cupp She's so intelligent that her high beams are always on bright……..
Bill WShultz in Chinatown he is considered a puzzlebox
With this dreck coming from the NYSlimes and the LASlimes you’d think Conservatives/Republicans would have been throwing oreo cookies at Steele, Rice and Thomas while hurling racial epithets. Now that I remember it that’s exactly what the racist degenerates on the left did. Tabloids are more reputable than these leftwing rags.
it has everything to do with calling a Spade a spade;
RACIST
As Evan Sayet has pointed out, the mere fact that we believe that there is such a thing as objective truth, a truth that is immutable and exactly the same for every sentient being, makes us de facto bigots by the standards of postmodernism.
Paradoxically, unless you have accepted the relativity of truth and the malleability of personal morals, no leftist will permit you to use the words "right" or "wrong".
I still fail to understand how anyone could equate opposition to President Obama's plans as racist. I see the problem as those who are charging racism NOT understanding that to many of us he is not a black man. Since he is half black (from Africa) and half white ( from America) we can choose how we view him racially. I do not have a "Black" President, I have a "White" President! And since I am a predominately "White" hispanic, born in Puerto Rico, my opposition to his socialistic agenda is based only on the merits of his agenda! Had he been a conservative republican I would have voted for him and would support most of his conservative agenda.
in other news, "batboy" has been appointed the new green jobs czar, along with bigfoot in yoshi sargent's old job.
This post is totally racist. There are far more white pixels on my screen right now than black pixels. PROOOOOF!!!
Also, it's 30 degrees outside right now. Global Warming is REAL!!!! PROOOOOF!!!
It's Bush's fault, and you're worse than Hitler.
Now I'll get back to my 90 PROOOOOOF…..
Every time somebody from the left accuses us of racism it seems to decrease the approval ratings of universal health care. Keeping this in mind, I say let them keep spewing all their racist nonsense. They're only making it harder on themselves to get it passed.
"I still fail to understand how anyone could equate opposition to President Obama's plans as racist."
Sorry, but failing to understand how anyone could equate opposition to Obama's plans as racist…is also racist.
All my life, I thought I was living a color-blind, non-racist life. Little did I know that my preference for the Angels over Obama's White Sox meant I was really a racist. Thanks for clearing that up Greg!
I guess that applies to me, too. I'll be at the game Oct 1.
I coined the phrase "rogue fart" over the weekend.
Let's see which catches on first and is more useful.
Yeah, I'd probably retire that saying until the next administration.
Hmmmm…aren't the "White Sox" racist?
Realizing how difficult it is to find real racism, the left has been scrambling to promote concepts such as "institutional racism" and "privilege" (for the latter, see http://www.amptoons.com/blog/files/mcintosh.html and http://blog.shrub.com/archives/tekanji/2006-03-08... ) which, according to the quote that starts the Peggy McIntosh essay on privilege ("I was taught to see racism only in individual acts of meanness, not in invisible systems conferring dominance on my group") allows them to claim that racism is "invisible" and "systematic" and thus even if you don't think you are racist, don't commit acts of racism, and don't see any racism around you that it still exists and you should feel guilty for benefitting from it .
If you haven't read any of the essays or web pages about "privilege", please do, because that's apparently the cutting edge of left-wing academia that they are currently filling young heads full of mush with in colleges and I've seen the McIntosh pop up on Facebook. As someone who has lived in another country where my own race was barely represented, I personally find these "Do you know what it feels like to….?" lists of "privileges" hilariously simplistic and naive. It also seems to me that plenty of the assumptions behind those questions are assumptions that only a well-off academic who has no clue about succeeding in the real world would make.
Excellent post, Greg. May I take this opportunity to suggest an all-star panel to discuss your comments? I'd go with Lauren Sivan, S.E. Cupp, Courtney Friel, Anna Gilligan (and possibly her lesbian sister) and Hannah Giles? They have the best opinions in the business.
Oh, could you try to get Carrie Prejean as well? And lose Bill for the night (although Pinch can stay). I'd suggest an in-depth discussion of summer camps and what is the proper attire.

Well said….circles within circles….leading back to raciest. Agree with me- You raciest you.
Or maybe not. Maybe we can raise the incidence of strokes on the left!
As a matter of fact, the National Enquirer IS more reputable than the Slimes. Remember Reilly Hunter?
I don't disagree with you, does that make me a racist anyway?
You betcha!
Mr. Blow, you fit right in at the Paper of Fiction, I mean record.
see also: "When did you stop beating your wife?"
(They are all flowerpots.)
Is not a spade a shovel?
But in the Race Studies class I was forced to take in college, it was conclusively proven that only Whites can be racist.
It was also pretty much implied that as a White you we AUTOMATICALLY a racist anyway.
Good God, I'm so utterly sick of being called a racist just because I disagree with these a**holes.
It just reaffirms what we've always known. The definition of "bigot" is anyone who's winning an argument with a liberal.
If I agree then am I a racist or not a racist or half a racist.
This race based score card gets more confusing every day
Something about circles I think…..problem is people never knew what they were agreeing to when they elected the O and Joe. So now……..they don't know
The "Stimulus," Cap and Trade, and Universal Health Care, they are all about redistribution of wealth; socialism. However, since we aren't allowed to call them that, the NY Times has given us a new phrase: Aversive Socialism.
Individualist —-see I agree with Joe, so if you agree with me, you agree you are, by Carter's definition a sorry racist.
err ah, maybe that is sorry excuse for a racist, or ah just sorry, I don't know- what was the question?
LOL! Yep, and they should remind them MLK Jr was a Republican.
