Daily Gut: Frommer = Tool
by Greg GutfeldSo the king of the travel guide racket, Arthur Frommer, has come out against Arizona. Yes, he claims he’ll no longer visit the state because it permit “thugs” to openly carry guns. He revealed this on his blog, after witnessing a protester carrying a rifle outside a building where the President was speaking.
Frommer says he’ll consider whether “tourists should safeguard themselves” by avoiding the crime-ridden hellhole that is the Grand Canyon. After I read about this, I decided to do a search to see if Frommer ever made similar pronouncements about other cities or states. I wondered if he had ever told people to avoid Washington DC, where, according to a US Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2004 report – that place topped the entire country in crime.
Zilch. Nor could I find any such commentary, regarding Detroit, Memphis or Miami – the only large cities in the US with more than 950 violent crimes per 100,000 people, according to FBI’s 2008 crime report. And what of President Obama’s very own Chicago, a city experiencing a dramatic uptick in shootings, muggings and other violent gang activity? Did Frommer warn travelers away from that bullet-ridden borough?
Nope. Fact is, Frommer went after Arizona, because it’s an easy target. It’s just a buncha white rednecks with guns, even if one of the white rednecks is uh, black. And it fed Frommer’s ego: voicing an opinion in sync with the liberal, like-minded media provides him, for a brief moment, an elevated sense of self.
But I sympathize. All he does all day is make travel guides.
Maybe he should get out more.
Tonight, we’ve got Jim Nortion, Faith Salie and Tucker Carlson, and Mad Men’s Rich Sommer!

Well, in that case, I'm coming out against Arthur Frommer and his stupid guides. I will no longer read travel books written by thuggish socialists who have no respect for our constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Never really liked the Frommer books anyway. Nowadays you can find all that info on the internet for free.
So. You're getting a ragegasm from something Frommer didn't even mention (the whole "white" thing)?
Man. Someone's feeling sensitive. Perhaps a run on the beach with some capri pants will have you feeling more Greg-like.
Nothing new here. He's always been an overrated hack! I'm ready for more garden spots to be highlighted – Camden NJ, Chester PA, Newark… to name just a few. I want to know what to do, where to go, and how much body armour I need to carry along.
Frommer stated: "Open carry laws have to take second place to public order and to life," he said.
Perhaps Mr Frommer is unaware that, due to escalating gang crime in AZ largely due to illegal immigration, carrying a gun might be just the solution to bring about "public order and …life".
I notice that Wiley, the parent company of Frommer's publication, is seeking to distance themselves from his statements.
What a poltroon.
Pol*troon" (?), n. [F. poltron, from It. poltrone an idle fellow, sluggard, coward, poltro idle, lazy, also, bed, fr. OHG. polstar, bolstar, cushion, G. polster, akin to E. bolster. See Bolster.] An arrant coward; a dastard; a craven; a mean-spirited wretch. Shak.
There's probably not much of a kickback from places in Arizona, so it's easier to concentrate on Washington, DC, Detroit and other dirty pol places.
Welcome to Red Eye, It's like 'No Bias, No Bull', if my Bull you mean pants.
Jim Norton: if hilarity were an endzone, large men would enter him…and then do a dance.

i bet all the conservative folks in arizona thought to themselves: that's all it takes to keep the wackos out?!
What I hear from Frommer: Oh no! A man who looks a bit like Carlton from the Fresh Prince and is competely non-threatening has a gun! TIME TO OVER REACT!
Seriously, if Frommer wants to avoid Airzona thats fine. I doubt they will miss the hack.
Never heard of this man. I am sure Az is all broken up about him not coming LOL
Just checked Frommer's blog on his site, he ain't doin so well with this in the comments section.
Wow, if this guy gets all upset over guns, I know the perfect place for him to go: Antarctica.
As someone who lives in Arizona, I promise you that when the temperature drops to below freezing in the next couple of months all over the country while it stays a pleasant 75 degrees with cloudless skies in Phoenix, we will have plenty of tourists. Nice try, Frommer.
You have to wonder what it is about a liberal agenda and liberal demagogue that has all the amateur left-wing scribes rushing to blog. First it was Roger Ebert – a man who only survived cancer because of our health care system – condemning the health care system, supporting socialized medicine, and endorsing Obama (in addition to Ebert's other idiotic political ramblings). Now Frommer?
Jay Nordlinger wrote an excellent piece waaaay back when Obama was elected – remember that far? – about how "they just can't help it". How they need to find any forum possible to jump on the bandwagon, to say "I'm a good, dues-paid progressive too!" It's just pathetic.
Florida must be out for Frommerers. You are not only aloud to tote around your gun, but if someone comes up and threatens you, you can chase them down and put them out of our misery. I love Florida.
Texas is obviously out. Kennesaw, GA – OUT.
The whole continent of Africa. Gonzo.
I think the only place he can go and feel good is an Islamic state. Hmmm. Ma'assalama dude.
Frommer didn't have to mention it, he pretty well implied it. I thought you liberals liked sensitive people. But again you demonstrate that you don't walk the talk.
Reminds me of Pablo Francisco's joke about the East Coast. "When the temperature gets above 75, people in Boston start passing out. What the hell? –Meanwhile in Houston: 'Let's go jogging!'"
I just have to make sure I'll never buy any of his guides again…
With snooty white liberals, it's always implied.
I think the real joke is that Frommer believes people really listen to him. As an aside, when the temps dip below 75 in Phoenix, those of us that live here reach for our winter coats, so Francisco was probably on to something.
http://opencarry.org/ Click on Maps, and click on individual states.
Huh, PA is doing pretty well, generally its Philadelphia holding us back. Again.

I can understand why some communities would require license for concealed carry. I can even understand, but do not endorse, why some communities have a ban on anyone carrying firearms. The problem with a ban on open carry is that it is unconstitutional. The standard practice not too long ago was for everyone to be packing. It was the only way anyone could insure thier own personal safety. Would Mr. Frommer feel more secure if everyone had a concealed weapon like most of the residents in the poorer communities in Washington D.C. The residents of these communities are so frightened that a large percentage violate local ordinances in order to have some peace of mind.
Frommer, like many leftists, probably sees no contradiction in his actions, i.e. declaring Arizona a dangerous place because law-abiding citizens are allowed to openly carry firearms while not warning people about street crime in places like DC.
For leftists, street crime is an act of resistance, rebellion, and a means of "spreading that wealth around", to paraphrase our Dear Leader. Mugging and robbery are portrayed as merely a form of direct action in which "criminals" act out against the real villains: straight white males, Republicans, business owners, Judeo-Christians, and the middle class.
cont'd…
Many leftists excuse street crime on the grounds that the perpetrators are victims of an evil system; some leftists actually embrace street crime as "social banditry", to quote the British Marxist Hobsbawm. This latter view sees street crime as an early step in building "revolutionary consciousness", and was expressed in the Black Panther Party's program, among other places.
"Law-abiding citizen" is a code word among many leftists for straight white male, Republican, middle class, etc. As stated above, leftists view these people as the real villain, and fear an armed law-abiding citizenry because it cannot be controlled, hoped, or changed without the possibility of resistance.
Can we add to the "Don't buy their travel guides" list any of them that say any European country is so much better than the US due to their superior state-run anything?
Frommer would probably pee his pants if he realized we just passed a law in Arizona that will now allow you to take your gun into places that serve alcohol……lol
I love AZ
addendum:
HI is also a licensed open carry state.
Ouch!! That really takes a bite out of Frommer's travel plans.
Ironic, since Independence Hall and Franklin are so much a part of Philly's history.
No no, theres a problem with that. Hostile Penguins brandishing sharp beaks, Frommer would want to avoid them as much as possible as they are really cute but prone to gang related violence. Than theres those right-wing nascar viewin confederate flag lovin Polars bears.
No, no no no. Not good for someone like Frommer. He would be better suited to the moon where nothing slightly threatening could harm him. Or more importantly nothing could disagree with him.
Well I imagine a couple of secret service snipers probably had that guy in their crosshairs the whole time he was there. To bad he didn't make any sudden moves.
Frommer's first book was Europe on $5 a day. Even in 1957, this was amazingly cheap and, well, rather bohemian. By the time I traveled with a Frommer book (in gun-free Europe) in the early 80s, I was put off by Frommer's comments about where to get good drugs. Still, I got some good deals and cheap, but clean digs.
But both Frommer's Europe and my thoughts about traveling there ended a long time ago. I'll stay in the USA from now on.
I'm not sure he'd feel all that comfortable in an Islamic state, either. I'm thinking more like Key West.
He would be shitless there. In every way.

Just read up Frommer's stupid blog about boycotting AZ, those hoplophobic Frommer lemmings are too funny but pathetically uninformed.
I am a long time resident of the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Mr. Frommer has done a great service to his readers through his perceptive and thorough understanding of Arizona culture.
Why, just this morning after I donned my ten gallon Stetson, twin six guns, and chaps (sans pants, in deference to Mr. Gutfeld) in preparation for my work in the cow patty mines, I was forced to shoot my neighbor several times because he looked at me funny.
Travelers to our great state to enjoy one of our hundreds of premier golf courses should be aware that rounds often end in an O.K. Corral style shoot out, or at least a Starsky and Hutch style shooting chase in the golf carts to the parking lot.
And although several celebrities and critics have praised Pizzeria Bianco in downtown Phoenix as one of the best pizza makers in the nation, they’ve failed to mention that reservations are not taken. Instead, seating is determined on a shoot first, ask questions later basis.
I hope that Mr. Frommer will include this information in his next guide.
DITO
Black conservatives need guns…cuz man they are outnumbered.
Several years ago I was planning a visit to the DC area and was looking through several travel books. Frommer's made a snide remark to the effect that no one used the "Reagan" part of Reagan National Airport except hard core Republicans. I put the book down and have never considered a Frommer book since.

HA HA! Try naming a libertarian Latino…we're even more outnumbered.
I caught Frommer's remarks on National Propaganda Radio and it is true that race wasn't mentioned. Only the horror of people actually exercising the rights given them by the forefathers (and foremothers) who carried rifles before them.

The difference between us and them is we actually have jobs, and money, we boycott and the boardroom …stings.
I can't believe MN was green on that map, as liberal as this god forsaken state is (we elected Franken…not really). Even the Republicans here are liberals, except for Michelle Bachman.
OMG – Have used Frommer for many years —— buh bye, Frommer.
(life can be sad)
Perfect Patti!
Not many people know this, but Taliesin West features several exemplars from Frank Lloyd Wright's hobby of machine-gun sculpture.
No such luck WriterX with the tourist!
Thanks for the laugh.
My grandparents live in Sun City, and instead of playing bocce ball they pile into their large cars to drive around and shoot out lights. I've been told that whoever shoots out the least gets shot themselves. One less for Obamacare.
I knew that, we’ve all seen the Broadview/Brinks Security commercials, all criminals are white men.
As someone who's visited the Grand Canyon multiple times…
He call's it a crime ridden hell hole?
F**k him
You hit the nail on the head there. It used to be that people carried guns to ensure their own safety. But Liberals, as we have seen, desire to rely on the government rather than on themselves for their needs. This means they want police to have guns and not private citizens. And unfortunately, the police force is not big enough (nor can it feasibly be big enough) to protect everyone all the time.
Right you are yossarian22, a loving, feeling, compassionate liberal.
There’s been a rash of scalping as well, be damn careful in Arizona.
Where I live twenty minutes north of Atlanta violent crime is virtually nonexistent. The one thing that we have in common, we are all armed.
I'm very broken up about this. I'd write more, but I'm awfully busy trying to dodge all the gunfire out here in the Wild West. I don't know how I've managed to survive in Arizona all these years.
And I know an even better place : Hell. Better yet, dump Frumper and go with a much better guide – Sterns' "Roadfood' books, the guide to the best restaurants within 5 miles of of the interstate. TASTY!
You can't forget to mention those hell raisers that blow into the state every winter from Canada. Dam Canadians get liquored up and start shooting up the place. All we hear night after night during the winter is RV's tearing up and down the streets, every so often you hear some old man or woman scream " HEY EH?" to some poor sap just before they pop a cap into them. So all night it's "Hey Eh?", bang bang….."Hey Eh?", bang bang.
Mr. Frommer be afraid…yes…be very afraid.
Excellent. Poltroon is one of those words that has fallen into disuse, but shouldn't have: It's fun to say and it applies to so many, many leftards.
Well, add that to the list of reasons I wish Texas had open carry: We'd be an elite Frommer-Free State.
I have read the Antartic Treaty and am not sure if duels are allowed there. Evidently you must go there for peaceful means and cannot set up your own military. There is no law agaisnt murder so you are OK to kill someone while there so long as you are peaceful about it.
Problem is you'd have to fight the duel with spear guns. I don't think a hand gun works in -80 degrees Celsius but I could be wrong. So if you meet Frommer in Antarctica you can challenge him to a duel I hink. It's has to be spontaneous thouh becasue if you went there planning to duel him then you'd committed a crime in America but once in Antratica there literally are no rules on the subject.
What were we talking about again?
I don't blame these Marxist swines for being uncomfortable around armed Americans. I would be uncomfortable too If I Were Them and for good reason.
I live in AZ, it's a right to carry state. You don't have to have a permit to carry openly, so far anyway. I understand the point the guy was making but I don't agree with HOW he was making it. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I mean why bring undue attention onto yourself. Low key is the way to go in ALL situations. IMO anyway.
Oh and trust me AZ is not hurting because of frommers actions. Nobody pays any attention to that has been.
'Open Carry' is permitted in AK, AZ, NM, SD, WY ID, MT, KY, VT, WVA. and VA.
Licensed Open Carry is permitted in UT, ND, MN, IA, IN, TN, GA, MD, NJ, CT, MA, and RI.
TX, OK, AR, FL, SC, IL, NY, and DC fully prohibit Open Carry.
Looks like Mr Frommer is severely restricting his travel to avoid all these states, if he intends to report firsthand on goings-on.
However, given he is a liberal, and therefore devoid of ethics or standards, he will, as do all liberals, practice his hypocrisy.
I'll top that.
I will continue to not know or care who Arthur Frommer is.
I guess you're right. That was a black redneck (but not on MSNBC) with the AR-15 and a revolver. So stay out of Arizona in fear of black rednecks.
Re: Frommer = Tool
Spellcheck!
I'm sure you meant to say Fool.
Yep, all that info is on the net for free. Save a few trees.
Well I'm guessing I'm more liberal than either of you but I'm not all that compassionate.
Frommer, yet another whining, bed wetting libtard.
If incisive commentary was an ice cream cone, I'd lick him until he dribbled in my hand.
No Libs in Arizona?? I'm THERE baby!
THANK YOU Mr. Frommer- clearin' one state at a time!
I know that when the gay community said to boycott Utah, some conservatives were thinking it might not be such a bad idea. Less liberals to worry about messing up the politics. Salt Lake is already a joke one penny away from the usual scum of big cities.
Interesting enough, this "robbn' in da hood" are for the most part not white rich or middle class people who happen to be intelligent enough not to live or even visit the more violent sections. Its the "minorities" who are killing, robbing, and shooting each other. Heck of a way to get revenge on da man.
Will AZ citizens please stop voting in the Ultra-Liberal Governors please?
Phoenix AZ is violent, but it has nothing to do with the gun laws. It has to do with drugs and illegal aliens. Oh, did I just sound racist to a liberal? Do I care? No.
Yep, here in KY you can carry a pistol on your hip legally and in fact swords are allowed as long as they are visable. But of course we have tons of murders and gang violence here, oh wait no we don't, my bad, thought the KY looked liked NY.
Duh.
"Compassionate liberal" is an oxymoron. Liberalism is a philosophy of hate.
Frommer has no clue how many folks he sees in the supermarket are carrying. Way more than he thinks.
That he freaks out because is SEES a firearm is telling.
Spoken like a true fascis—-I mean liberal……
Very Interesting ………. Arthur Frommer has come out against Arizona b/c people are excersising their Constitutional Rights! And yet it's OK for Militants armed with Belly Clubs to scare voters at the polls?
Simple solution ……… Let's work together to create another King of the Travel Guide and let this one hit the unemployment office!
Try Lonely Planet Travel Guides
Hmm… As an Arizonan, I don't particularly like the "redneck" comment (though Gutfeld does that sort of thing sarcastically). I've got to say, if Frommer wants to make a big deal out of this, let him. People open carry here a lot. It's not really a big deal. There's even a state law that requires businesses and other places that don't allow guns in their establishment provide places to check people's guns. Last time I check, though, we didn't have a crime problem on the level of say Washington D.C., Chicago, or LA. It's actually pretty safe, even here in Phoenix.
The only thing that peeves me is that the state tourism people are running around like chickens, trying to get Frommer to retract his boycott. Frommer isn't going to make a darn difference in tourism in this state! We have the Grand motherf***in' Canyon! People will come just to look at it! Some how, I don't think Frommer is going to dissuade then from coming to our wonderful state.
We have them, but thankfully they are few and far between. Even the Democrats in the state government run on what would be considered a "conservative" platform (except for the *bleep*in' education spending).
"Conservative" is arguable, but I would say that at least they are "centrist" Democrats — a dying breed in this country.
Unfortunately, several of our Republicans are centrists too, cf. John McCain.
True… Well, at least it's better than California!
No, they knew he was no threat. They were looking for the Oswald/Sirhan/Hinckley types. You know, with illegally concealed weapons.
Frommer certainly is within his rights to be a moronic bigot. Just as I am in my rights to never buy his products again. Frommer's guides have been supplanted for a long time by others, so passing his by won't be a sacrifice.
What is it with travel writers being so lefty?
Here is one of the problems with so-called "liberals". They associate an action with a purpose that is more than likely the antithesis of real intention. In this case, they assume a person carrying a gun is looking for violence, when in fact, the person is carrying the gun to prevent violence. Awhile back, some thug attempted to mug my wife's aunt and uncle. Uncle Jack pulled his gun out and the potential mugger ran away. Peaceful resolution, I'd say. No one was harmed.
That confusion between action and intent is where so much confusion from the left comes from. Carry a gun, you want to kill, actually want to preserve life. Oppose big government, you want to destroy any government and unpatriotic, when actually, I'm patriotic because I favor LIMITED government.
Aww, also feeling sensitive.
It's hard out there for the white man.
Perhaps you should spend some time focusing on your chi. Drink some calming tea. Reset your chakras. That sort of thing.
You must have me confused with some other liberals.
I think deliberately carrying a weapon around a President – even if legal – is certainly unnecessarily provocative. That being said Frommer sounds a typical leftist. I stopped paying attention to him 30 years ago. There are far better books on travel these days and as someone said, always the Internet.
Which is fine if that's what Greg's complaint is. Except Greg's gotta throw race into it, because he's just so damn senstive.
Well worded.
